Never post on social media your travel plans. Post after the trip.
Amen
Anytime I see people posting exact dates of their trip I cringe!! anytime I post about any kind of trip. It’s in very general terms.
Exactly.
Photos and post go up when I get home
I always have the post office hold my mail and deliver the first day I am home.
I do the same thing.
Terrible we have to spend so much time keeping safe instead of just enjoying ourselves. Thanks for what you do
The USPS service is excellent. And you can also go right into the site and have your mail held and they will deliver it on the date that you request it to resume. (You still get daily notifications of what is in the mail.)
I would never leave my mail out in the box for a week. That’s just asking for trouble.
I have used both hold mail and informed delivery for quite a while. Since I cruise a lot, it’s convenient and helpful.
The person who had her cruise canceled showed her booking number online. That’s how someone was able to cancel the cruise.
I remember that and she claimed she never showed it online.
@@TomGeek1980 I remember seeing proof that she did.
@@DavidEidelberg Really? Must've been a video when people were calling her out.
@@DavidEidelberg I looked online and this was a different woman who got scammed.
Something else you can do is freeze your credit at all 3 main agencies. No one would be able to apply for credit in your name. You can easily unfreeze it when you’re applying. (Then easily freeze it again).
I do this!!
We just did it after the recent government breach
How do you do it?
I have done that for years now. Very easy to do now. Not so much years ago
@@shirala1972 You can even do it online now! Google it.
I think it’s a nice touch that you introduce yourself at the start of every video, and sign off by name at the end.
When I go on vacation, I never post on social media ever. I may post some photos when I return safely at home. Nobody knows outside of a few close people where I’m going or when I’m going. There’s so many out there who are praying on innocent people.
I don't have the service. I live in an apartment with a doorman, and no one can get to my mail without a key. My cat sitter picks it up for me when I'm away. Also, I don't use social media. (It's my understanding that the woman who had her cruise cancelled actually posted an image with her booking reference, and that information enabled someone to cancel the cruise.)
@@TheOnlyLilithcat I use a travel agent. The only one who can cancel my cruise is her. The service is free and she even gives us onboard credit. We never post when we will be gone.
@@Keep-on-ok - Very smart! Honestly, I don't understand people who post such private details on social media.
Thieves have broken into and getting into buildings or mail rooms in the past apparently it happened where I live but I did not seem to be missing anything. It’s a gated building. however it’s too easy at the main gate for somebody to slip in along with UPS or FedEx or whomever and also through the parking garage gate when A Car opens the gate
I get a daily email from USPS, so I know what's coming... I hold the mail when out of town...
There is something fishy about Chase. I only post affiliations on social media . If I post personal, it's way after and select a different location.
I use USPS Informed Delivery which is very handy. I saw that a bill was coming in that never actually showed up in my mailbox. I was able to call the company and still get my payment in on time even though the bill never did get to me. I also use the vacation hold when away and that works great.
Wow, I have the USPS Inform Delivery it is good. 👍
I have always had the post office hold my mail until I return. So easy to use and sign up for.
I do use the service and love it!
Not much a concern here in the UK. We don't have an external letter box like in the US. Instead, our letterboxes are built into the front door, so mail is safe inside the house until you return.
Have informed delivery and always stop my mail.
The wonderful bonus of living in a condo where your mail is locked up.
True, my box is not that big and it would get filled up if I was gone for too long. Many of the owners in my building do not live here full-time as it is their vacation home but my full-time home. Some of the mailboxes are filled to over flowing.
It’s a good idea to freeze your credit.
You stop your mail at the post office and then pick it up when you return home.
Chase accounts DON'T seem secure.
My husband checks our mail deliveries every day with that service they provide. We recently also put a freeze on our credit so no one can apply for a credit card with our info. So many social security numbers have been stolen recently. You can never be to careful with your identity.
I have people upset with me sometimes for not posting about my vacations while we’re on vacation. But I have made it a standard not to post about vacations or being gone at all until we are home. My sister works at the post office, so it’s quite easy for us to have her hold our mail while we’re gone.
I have a different bank with a card. This card and bank only has the money I need for vacation if I need more money on the account a family member will go to the bank if needed. So if you get my information you will not get much
We froze our credit reports….we live in a condo…no one has access to our mailbox
My mail goes in a locked box, but I also get the daily notices
Very useful post, thank you 😊
If allowed, as we did, install a mail slot in the front door.
I always have my mail held, and go one step further and don't let my friends tag me in pictures or comments on FB when I am away. I also have a neighbor who knows my schedule and keeps an eye on my house.
Some local police jurisdictions have a program where they will drive by your home while you are away and check to make sure no one has broken in.
@@janeknopfmacher1297 My neighbor has a daughter who is a drug addict. We don’t tell them anything.
WOW 😮. Thank God my daughter feeds my cat daily and pulls my mail from my mailbox when we're gone. Good information, as always. Thanks
Never tell social media you’re on vacation and always stop your mail through the USPS. We do both.
1) Hold mail while on vacation. 2) watch social media posts. 3) freeze your credit on all three agencies. If your credit is frozen no one can access your credit to open a new account. Even you. If you want to apply for a loan or credit card you have to “thaw” your credit. This temporarily lifts the freeze and then freezes back after your specific time frame.
Have had ours frozen for over 10 years. Even froze my kids when they were young.
USPS’ Hold Mail service is great but imperfect. A locked mailbox is an excellent fallback to cover when the local USPS staff accidentally deliver mail when it’s supposed to be held.
I have used the USPS Inform Delivery for years. It's good to know what to expect, ESPECIALLY if it is something important. I live in Atlanta and we are having MAJOR issues with our mail delivery (it's even been reported on major TV networks). In the last month, we have missed at least one piece of mail if not daily, every other day. Some possibly important, but how exactly do we know. Sometimes the missing mail will show up the next day, sometimes never. We are still missing about 6 pieces for over a month. Don't bother calling USPS or going in because they can't/won't do anything. The availability to know exactly what is coming is great. If you are expecting something and never receive it, you can call and check on it. No cost, take advantage of it.....they'll probably start charging for it eventually.
Yes! I always have my mail held by USPS until I return from a trip. Sorry that happened to that lady though.
The USPS service is called Informed Delivery. It's great when it works, but often I'll go weeks getting an email saying no mail is coming and there is mail in the box. I always do a hold-my-mail with the post office when we're gone.
We subscribe to USPS notifications. And we never post anything on social media while on vacation until after we return.
I’ve used informed delivery for a while. I really like the service. I also have my mail held when I’m traveling, however, I usually have them deliver it to me when I’m returning. I’ll be retiring soon. I think I’d prefer to just go to the post office and pick it up. How did this woman know she was getting 35 credit cards? That’s the part I do not understand. Before I travel, I make sure that I cancel any recurring things I might have coming from Amazon or other places.
I have used the USPS service for a number of years. I also have them hold my mail until I return. I don’t post my travels on Facebook until after I return home. Also when traveling I take not one but two different credit cards just in case something happens to one card. I also make sure that anything that I order online is done way before I leave so that nothing arrives via Amazon, etc while I am away. I also have a Ring video doorbell that I can view via Internet. Yes, I always get a wifi package while on a cruise.
Scary story. Our credit is locked, so it would be impossible for anyone to order credit cards on our account. We also use USPS informed delivery AND we have our mail held when we're out of town. Sad about this woman being targeted because of Facebook. I love joining the FB groups for cruises we have scheduled.
Always hold your mail and don’t post about going out of town until you are back home!
This is excellent advice.
I gave that USPS mail preview.
I use informed delivery and love it. It’s super-easy to hold our mail through the USPS website, too. My husband has our security cameras at our house set to alert him on his phone if the cameras register movement. We get a lot of false alarms but it’s worth it. Our adult kids live about 10 minutes away so we often ask them to come by the house at random times to check how things are.
I love the service but always hold my mail for extended days away! Thx for sharing!
After the Social Security Office posted that some information had been stolen, I "freezed" our credit with all 3 credit reporting companies. That way no one could open a new account of any kind like credit or loan.
I use and love the USPS preview service. Since I live alone, I don’t post that I’m going on vacation. I also don’t post pictures while on vacation. I may or may not post when I return.
I’m worried about joining Facebook groups for trips. I know most moderators want to approve people before allowing you into the group, but what if someone in the group is looking to who’s going to be away? I’m also suspicious when someone asks about suggestions for getting to and from the cruise terminal, too. Yes, we all have to very careful!
Yes we have the informed delivery. I look at it when I'm not going to be able to check the mail box every day. We have the communal mailboxes for about 40 neighbors and thieves have stolen the master keys from post office employees and they do hit the boxes and take the mail often at night. USPS refuses to put in new locks, so we have to check the box daily.
I also fill out a post office form to hold my mail and I personally pick it up upon return to home. The form says they will hold mail up to 30 days but we've had our mail held for 45 to 48 days on numerous occasions. It's generally up to the post office staff to make an exception and they always have with us. It's all about being kind and curious to the post office staff behind the counter.
It was mentioned that the post office will hold your mail…WRONG….you can go in person or do it online but it’s a toss up if they’ll hold it. Out of 5 vacations only once was it held and that one time we did both online and in person requests. Then trying to get that hold mail is another story. Protect yourself …don’t tell everyone when you’re going to be away..surprise them when you have stories to tell when you get home. Lock your credit before you leave if you are really worried..it can be unlocked by a phone call…..there are so many ways to protect yourself….
I use the post office service to see what is in our mail. A few years ago we found we were not getting birthday cards. Our mail service is outsourced..yes the US mail is not always delivered by a USPS employee. The person for about a year was stealing all cards that look like a birthday card and sometimes Christmas cards. They were looking for cash or gift cards. We only lost cards, but others did lose things other than the card. We live in an HOA and it was this area that was outsourced. After complaining to the post master and proving via this mail service we didn't get cards, they were able to arrest the person for mail fraud. Since that time if anyone sends us cards with gift cards we tell them to send in a regular envelope and nothing that looks like a birthday card. So far nothing has happened since the postmaster who is located five hours away was able to arrest the person. Some of the gift cards were gotten back to the rightful owners.
OMG I cannot believe what just happened.
I have used this service from USPS for years, I also never post when I’m going or on vacation and I always have my mail held.
First of all. If I post vacations online it’s after I get back from the cruise or other vacation. I usually don’t post at all but maybe when it’s over. Hey world, there’s nobody home, come and take my stuff! Second, alway do a mail hold while away, it all gets delivered the day after I get home.
Great video Thanks! I use both services and I have the post office hold my mail. I have been using the other service that the post office emails me everyday all mail coming in and a picture of it. It’s Awesome service that’s free to everyone! Also I don’t post my vacation pictures until I’m back home.
See guys sometimes the old ways are better....We ALWAYS have our mail held at the post office and pick it up in person 3 days after we arrive home. You never know if there will be a problem travelling home . There is also less of a problem by picking it up then to have it delivered.
Yes, I've used this service for years. It was really great when I was in the hospital also. Also I always have the post office hold my mail! Very simple very secure. I actually thought most people do these 2 basic things...
I love that service from the post office! I also am not posting anything on social media. I also have everything frozen, best thing I ever did.
Thanks for the great tips and good for the smart, vigilant lady! 👍
We always have had our mail held for us!. We also never post our trip anywhere on line. Never post anything from your trip until you are home!
I have that service but do not have the wifi package on the cruise to check my mail however I do have the post office hold my mail while on a cruise.
We always have our mail held by post office.
I didn't know there was a service like that. But there is always someone at my house!
I always have the post office hold my mail, whether in country or out of country don’t give the criminals the opportunity and don’t post on social media that you are going to be gone
Yes, we do use the mail delivery hold services, when traveling. We do not share on posts till you we get home.
I never put I am away on my Facebook page and I always have my mail held at the PO. They deliver it to me on the day after the hold.
USPS mail view is great. I’ve had it for years.
How do you have sense enough to get the mail notifications yet don't stop your mail when you leave town.
I get an email for every credit transaction. I have been able to stop fraud in its tracks a couple times when my card info was stolen at a restaurant or store where I made a purchase. Very easy to set this up with the bank that issues your card.
We just started using this service earlier this year. It is a great service. We also stop our mail while we are gone. It seems it is also a good idea to not share any info about where one might be going on social media.
I should have known. Chase is the worst bank ever.
wow that lady was so lucky. thank god she had that service.
Never post that you are on vacation!!!!
We always have mail and packages held while on a cruise.
And the last tip is avoid social media it isn't secure.
some interesting suggestions, thank you
We also have our credit frozen at all three agencies so no accounts can be opened unless we call and have the freeze released.
Thank you great tips
Wow that's scary!
Great video!
This is crazy!
This is why when I'm on a cruise, I'll either pay in cash or use a prepaid debit card so if I do get scammed, I'm not losing all of my money.
I took my debit card with me to Europe and I was concerned about somebody stealing it, hacking it, etc., and taking all the money out of my account. I found that there is a way to put a hold on it so transactions cannot happen. It works. Forgot to take it off. I could not get any money out of the ATM and my wireless providers payment did not go through. I got an email from them.
How did she know from a photo of an envelope that there were 35 cards in there??
@@kellyault6468 it was 35 separate cards/photos of 35 pieces of mail
Thank you for this 🙏
PS, my wife and I love you two!
Aww thanks for watching!! 🤗
