  • We announced big cruise news as we are moving into a cruise ship! However, since then, we have stopped talking about Villa Vie Residences Cruise Ship Villa Vie Odyssey. We are going to tell you why we stopped talking about Villa Vie Residence and our honest thoughts on Villa Vie Residences as a brand after so many negative comments have been made on our other videos. These videos include How much does moving into a cruise ship cost? We addressed all the reasons why we are moving into a cruise ship, the money saving tips, and financial budget planning to move into a cruise ship. We also talked the difference in saving money while living at sea instead of living on land such as in The Villages Florida. We addressed why cruise passengers are moving onto residential cruise ships by new Residential Cruise Lines including our exciting cruise news of the residential cruise ship we planned to be moving into and if we will be moving in to our new cruise ship residence. Are these cruise passengers justified in their decision to move in to residential cruise ships? Should you book a Residential Cruise Ship Cabin or book a World Cruise Segment? This is the latest cruise news in tandem across the cruise industry where all cruise lines are making cruise cutbacks for cruise passengers onboard cruise ships during 2024 and we were surprised by the affordability of moving into a cruise ship in 2024! How are residential cruise ships different for cruise passengers than mainstream ocean cruises or world cruises on mainstream cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean World Cruise on Serenade of the Seas Cruise Ship or Cunard World Cruise at sea? How do Cruise Ship Crew handle these residential cruise passengers? Are cruise ship passengers okay with residential cruise lines and 2024 changes to cruises? We talk through our experiences and excitement with partnering with a new cruise line. This affects cruisers from the World’s Biggest Cruise Ship Class, to the World’s Smallest Cruise Ship Class and every Cruise Ship in between as Residential Cruise Ships may take over the Cruise Industry as a new way to Travel the World on a budget while being digital nomads and working at sea. What are your thoughts in our inside cruise chat on the biggest announcement of us moving into a Cruise Ship 2024? Would you retire on a cruise ship instead of a retirement community such as the Villages Florida? Would you want to live your life traveling the world by sea onboard a cruise ship?

This video is not paid for by Villa Vie or requested by Villa Vie. We are purely excited for this concept of affordable residential cruise ships and look forward to seeing what’s next to come. 😊
No one knows the future (though some in the comments type like they do). We don’t know the future either and have stated this. That said, we hope for the best and are rooting-on these passengers and company in this groundbreaking journey 🥳

And the pinned comment should add what one of your replies buried in the comments at bottom said "we were invited on the Odyssey ". That means when/if you go, it is a free cruise. That is a form of payment which I would think is not uncommon for cruise influencers (?) . I don't understand why you appear to be so shy to say so and why many multiple of people have to ask and then you post this sidestepping non answer multiple times. You gain credibility, and I feel it is defensible, to be able to say you won't be charged for the cruise and you feel able to give your honest opinion about how it works out for you.

Your enthusiasm understandable, as you have the “insider” perspective. We all understand groundbreaking concepts have bumpy launches, but this situation is a contract violation plain and simple. Also, this is not an Uber ride or a Big Mac. You are talking about hopeful residents that spent tens, even hundreds of thousands of dollars on this dream. The residents have upheld their end of the contract, and Villa Vie has not. Period. And to make matters worse, residents expressing their ongoing concerns are now having their contracts terminated.

JJ Cruise is totally tone deaf to what's been going on. Perhaps they haven't followed Jenny's story, but that's unlikely. That's why they suddenly addressed this. JJ Cruise- you don't want a free cruise on this tub and you aren't going to get one anyway. This thing is a dud. Mike used popular bloggers to legitimize this scam. It's a Ponzi- he is collecting money, over-promising, under-delivering, ousted people and laughing in their faces- saying "go ahead and sue me in the Marshall Islands"- which interestingly he switched the company to the Marshall Islands- AFTER he secured the money for the venture and to line his pockets with. This is BAIT and SWITCh. He is not a pioneer- he is a conman. You'd know that if you did any research at all.

@@JJCruise And yet they have not as yet ever learned from their mistakes and if you followed the situation closely and in a non biased manner , you would know that. Right up to actual launch date of 10/3 they still continuously and repeatedly said they were leaving which was completely impossible as all their 30ish launch dates from May 15 to October 2 had been. The weekend of September 28 they had 6 outstanding conditions from DNV to be rectified before receiving their Passenger Ship Safety Certification and their Class Certification without which they could not sail. They spent the weekend fixing those items and yet incredibly said they were leaving Monday 9/30. On Monday they needed to have DNV retest those 6 conditions (air quality etc), they needed to pass all of them, needed DNV to write up the report, have it reviewed by engineers, issue the certificates and sail All. On.The. Same. Day. Ridiculous lack of planning. And of course the retest found issues and they received 1 certification but not the other and didn't sail. After 4.5 months of timeline failures and lack of realistic planning, at the end they still were showing they were doing the same thing over and over.
Now they've set sail and have a certification (International Ballast Water Management Certificates-treatment method issued only short term due to inadequacies) which expires 10/30 and 5 others also issued short term due to deficiencies after 4.5 months of renovation which expire 12/24 and 12/25 (including the Passenger Ship Safety Certification, Class certification, oil pollution, air pollution, sewage pollution (this one 12/10)). They have intermittent problems with water on the ship and have cut it off multiple times, have had intermittent problems with no hot water (how are dishes being sterilized??), have had toilets that won't flush on the entire ship multiple times. There is no water in the pools and hot tubs (water issues).
If you want to be advocate for a cruise line it would be a great idea to do a little research and educate yourself so you can educate your followers rather than fooling them.

I cry when I think about those young students in France who had all the opportunity in the world, and still they were willing to give up their lives for people who were less fortunate. When watching, sometimes I think to myself: "What part would I play in a revolution? Would I be sitting in my living room, would I be supporting the queen/king, or would I be risking my life on the barricades?" The great thing about this situation is that we don't need to risk our lives here. The most that JJ Cruise could lose is maybe a free trip on a cruise. They intended, through their own statements, to sail the ship within 2 weeks to Belfast for an 8 week renovation (originally 10 weeks per their February press release). Once taking possession they found out about the lapsed certifications (which standard due diligence would have shown before purchase) so they found this out in March and the ship was unable to move to Belfast for 7 weeks (around April 24). They do not have, and at present are not trying to get, the extra certifications for the Artic nor for the US (though they hope they might at a future point). China has rules against ships over 30, but they are subjectively applied so it's a toss up whether or not they'll be allowed to go to China. Additionally some European and South Pacific and other countries are tightening regulations for ships and ages due to climate change so the list of places where the ship may not be able to go, including for refueling and supplies, could increase and some already have set dates when these regulations will apply. One assumes none of this was considered nor researched before the company chose a 31 year old ship.

Just checking the Villa Vie website, the ship is only at about 80% occupied. Many cabins still available, even for partial cruises. Also, there IS a monthly fee of around $4000/mo, per person, depending upon cabin size. Some are more, some are less. But that is a per person fee every month.

    • @RetiredZGrt
      @RetiredZGrt 2 місяці тому +14

It seems to be significantly less than 80%. Jason of course said at the beginning of the video that it was almost sold out and of course he was told that by VV. However that was company spin. In a May interview the CEO said they had only done some work (significantly less remodeling than had been sold) on 295 cabins and sold 270 of these (out of 495 pax cabins on the ship). So the CEO then said they were 90% sold - true if you don't base it off the total number of cabins on the ship (good spin). Most of the resident vloggers and bloggers have guessed 150 passengers (on a ship with capacity for 924 pax) and a Founder (resident who also invested in the company and who get a higher level of company information) posted a breakdown of where each resident that had thus far booked the cruise, even just a few segments, came from and there were 315 people. Total. Also keep in mind the crew should be on deck 2 but are temporarily relocated to a passenger deck - deck 3 so this entire deck which has the greatest number of cabins shows as full (but not with passengers).

You are way too positive about this given all the problems the ship has had. And, comparing it to The Villages, FL where we live ludicrous and way off base. Our house has doubled in price since we bought it. We have a nice equity in it, which VV will never give you. And you are apparently getting some kind of kick back or commission on the sales you are making as a result of this push. Shame on you for not coming right out and saying it up front.
VV is destined to fail and definitely not a recommended purchase. You never spoke about how their terms have changed, and what they are now taking away from the passengers like no more self-cooking kitchen, smaller cabins than originally purchased, some rooms were not ready when the customer boarded, etc. and 30 percent smaller than the contacted price. Buyer beware in this case. It is over a 30-year-old plus ship and destined for problems. And it cannot dock in North America or China or Japan because of its age. What does that tell you?

Jordan, your youth and lack of life experience is showing.
I'm not saying the VV biz model can't work, I'm saying this particular company is likely not going to work.
Obviously this company put the cart before the horse. They failed to do their do diligence on the ship they purchased. They failed to get enough working capital. They failed on their time lines. And now they are failing on their PR and image.
When a company screws up this much, it's extremely poor management..
Yes, it's a new concept, but a ship reno is not new. Basically they are a cruise company that is a timeshare. Again not new.
So screwing things up this bad is NOT LIKE APPLE, MCDONALDS, OR AMAZON.
It's a timeshare cruise company! Nothing really new!
With that said, this company has less than a 25% chance of lasting more than a couple of years.
To purchase a cabin on this ship is way more risk than I would be comfortable with.
Ask a timeshare owner how pleased they are with their purchase. My guess less than 5%.

They hope to possibly get the US certifications in future, but that would require a lot of money and time and possibly further costly repairs and more time and the ship should already be underway at that point. A lot of the European brands with older ships avoid U.S. ports due to regulatory ($$$) reasons. Also, some of these US ports are booked years in advance and unless VV has already booked them for visits into the future it is possible there is not any space available. So far VV hasn't demonstrated a propensity to research and plan, but you could certainly look up Alaskan and Hawaiian ports and other US ports to see if there is a reservation.
Regarding China and old ships, according to industry insides, on paper there are some 30-year rules, but they can at times be subjectively implemented so Odyssey could be denied due to the rules or they might somehow be able to go but no guarantee. It appears as if the 31 year old ship with lapsed certifications was chosen without research into the impact on their aspirational itinerary as a number of countries are tightening rules on older ships with implementation dates already set. But VV's contract allows ports to be cancelled at any time for any reason and that has been employed to a great degree already.

J & J are enthusiastic about sharing options in life amd vacation and in this case, combining both. Many of us cruisers know that VV is not a new concept. The World, for example, has been sailing well, the world, for 20+ years. I looked into purchasing their entry level cabin for $240k with yearly HOA of $10k. That 10K covers the food, maintenance ancestors, housekeeping. If the ship needed to be dry docked then the ship would put up residents in similar class hotels. The itinerary would partially be determined by the residents. If a resident didn't want to be on the ship for am extended amount of time, they can opt to rent put their cabin at premium rates. It was a tempting deal back then, one that I wished I would have jumped on even as a frational owner with a handful of friends. Today, the World's cabin list and sell for the multi millions.

The COO (his wife) admitted in her Open Letter that they were surprised when they found out the ship had no certifications, they had expected "smooth sailing ". What?!? @@lockwood1976 This is in no way to defend the Turkish company, Miray, but to clarify a little that former situation since you brought it up. The current VV CEO is the one who had the vision and the concept for Life At Sea. He is the one who found and chose the Turkish company Miray and their existing ship Gemini to carry out his vision with him. The now VV CEO brought the team in charge of marketing to Miray and sold hundreds of cabins to passengers for the 3 year world cruise on the Gemini. 4-5 months later, and after all these sales to the public, the now VV CEO visited the Gemini for the first time and called it unseaworthy in the international press when he left Miray. That unseaworthy ship is still sailing short Adriatic cruises for Miray. He took his marketing team and a large % of the passengers with him and started his own company, VV, within a couple of months. Miray never recovered from the international bad press and losing so many passengers and never being able to sell to enough more. Miray was a small company with insufficient breadth of management and not capable of carrying out such a huge undertaking and supposedly its backer backed out due to the bad press and loss of passengers and Miray lost the multimillion dollar unrefundable deposit it had put on purchasing a ship from Carnival Cruises. Carnival kept that deposit and resold the ship to another cruise line. The majority of the passengers have not been refunded 9 months later, but Miray continues to operate the Adriatic cruise. The now VV CEO seemingly did not do adequate due diligence when he chose Miray and their ship the Gemini. He then purchased Gemini's sister ship the Braemar (now called Odyssey), a 31 year old ship which had been moored for 4 years and whose certifications had lapsed and maintenance records had been deleted. Again a seemingly critical lack of due diligence during the Purchase Offer process and which has directly led to the months of ongoing delays do to inadequate research and project planning.

Just my opinion.... As far as a 'financial' investment is concerned this one would be the worst kind someone could make. From different sources that I've Googled , the average age at which vessels are scrapped is about 29 years. So Villa Vie at 30 is already running above the average life expectancy of cruise ships. In order to keep this ship sailing just on a five year horizon, the maintenance fees and assessments will no doubt have go up parabolically and sky rocket! You as an owner , like a condominium owner have no real voice in the matter and will just have to pay whatever the bill is for that year. As a practical matter, there are many better ways to enjoy life at sea with six figures plus of disposable income So why not enjoy all of the very many brand new gorgeous ships out there sailing in all of the categories from economy to luxury and which offer many more modern offerings of amenities, technology and personal space compared to what I have seen already on this old ship?
