Harrison Burton earned his first and the Wood Brothers' 100th Cup Series win on Saturday at Daytona. His victory capped off a wild weekend at the World Center of Racing that included a Kyle Busch in-the-wild siting, where the two-time champ surprised an unsuspecting fan on the streets of Daytona before a race that included a pair of "Big Ones," and a lesser one where Josh Berry flipped upside down and violently slammed into the inside wall.

Plus, Brad Keselowski was not happy with NASCAR's ruling against him late in the race. Also, a pair of interviews with a very dejected Bubba Wallace, who didn't hesitate to place blame for the season and being on the playoff bubble.

Been waiting for the change at NBC all summer. Definitly a change for the better. Class act by Busch not wrecking Burton to get the win. I certainly don't say that very often, if at all. With his season this year I figured he would take Burton out for the win. Maybe his recent comments about doing that had something to do with it. Good show as usual.

Congratulations to Harrison Burton, who really needed this win after 3 difficult years in Cup and after losing his ride in the Wood Brothers #21 Ford. I've always liked the Burton Family as they seem like decent, respectable and hard-working Virginia folks. The first Daytona 500 I watched from start to finish was in 2002, and Harrison's uncle Ward Burton won driving the #22 Caterpillar Dodge. I became a fan of Ward, and always liked to hear him talk with that heavy southern drawl (Jeff Burton said that Ward's accent was so much heavier than his because he (Ward) grew up in the southernmost part of the house 😁).

Going a step further is when he first flipped the nose of car was high. Thankfully the nose lowered before hitting the wall. Had the nose stayed up then, he goes windshield first into the wall. Scary to think about.

For long time/old school fans like me and you, I just can’t understand why is so hard to understand simple physics! Race vehicles will always catch air from time to time, there’s absolutely nothing you can do about it! It kills me when I hear them talk about grass being a reason why cars fly and it’s not, it’s just the uneven ground that allows air to get under them, as a prime example when Nemecheck spun and you could see the car bouncing from the unevenness of the pavement and in fact id he would have gotten spun around just a bit more he would have flown as well! During Berry fly you could see Cindric start catching air as well and the only reason it sat back down was because of Berry’s car disturbed enough of the air to keep it from flying! Look that’s what these cars were specifically designed to withstand from almost day one! The rolling flipping and flying is a spectacle of the sport in my opinion! Even back in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s it was extremely rare to see drivers get killed from and roll over accident! Most of the ones that did die in a roll over, died because of extenuating circumstances, cage collapse or seat rebooting etc…,
People need to appreciate the spectacle of the fact you can go to a NASCAR race and see a car get spun out at 150-200+ mph fly, roll, flip, summersault and watch the driver walk away! Jeff Burton even said it years ago when n ESPN SPEED AND DANGER “ let’s face it some people go to the races to watch the wreck!” So why not try to embrace and embellish it! NASCAR fans and Officials are so worried about trying to get more people Attracted to the sport, well there you freaking go! You got to have faith and confidence in the safety advances that’s been made over the years! Oh, and by the way, there is a way we can keep them from at least flying and that slowing the cars down too I was gonna say 130 miles an hour so but I’ll say around 120 mph and the reason for that is that dumb diffuser is the reason a lot of these cars are flying! It’s acting like a parachute in reverse! Once the cars are just a few inches off the ground pretty much it seems and the air can grab it. There’s no way for the air to escape and no way for the air to be disturbed For the most part , enough to keep it from grabbing it plain and simple. That obviously would ruin the sport and even taking the deer off still is not gonna prevent these cars from flying. It’s just a part of the sport they’re gonna have to face it. I don’t know why people keep acting so surprised like Jeff Burton for example reading a script it seems like over selling over acting on this shit. It needs to stop.

The whole point is this great new safer cheaper car is none of the above. It was real close to having a car in the grandstsnds. My thing is the old car was safer but nascars being nascar and will never admit that they spent millions on a car that’s not as safe. Ask Kurt Busch how safe it is. I’m not an engineer and I know it’s not very bright to it a wing aka diffuser under a stock car and run 190 mph.

I’m in aviation and it’s very simple. The shape of a wing creates lift. Certain shapes or levels of wings create more or less lift. Now when you redirect air in certain ways it lessens or eliminates lift. The problem is as the car rotates that lift becomes a moving target to eliminate. One way to eliminate lift in half a rotation could be create lift. What makes this moving target even worse is the way the bottom of the cars are now sealed of. I’m sure extended time in the wind tunnel could solve the problem.

We were trying to figure out if the adjustments nascar made to the cars this week kept mcdowell from flipping over logano, then josh flipped and we were like nope guess not. It seemed like that new flap actually caused him to flip. Truly a scary one. I'm glad he is ok.

Yeah NBC pulled a good one I watched they usually ran 20 commercials in a row during yellows and during the choose options and pit stops which before we usually got to see a bit of that action which I'm always interested in they only showed green flag to green flag and checkered flag we got robbed they sure pulled us thinking that they were going to do something great man people did you notice this and nBC you suck

Considering that Kyle Larson started 2 wrecks himself, I think he's full of crap. He either wins or crashes out. I guess some people like that, but not me. I waited the whole race for Cindric to pay him back for that early slam, but no such luck.

Lee Duffy is a breath of fresh air. When I heard earlier this summer that he would be taking over the play-by-play on NBC I was excited after seeing him do MSA and the Indy 500. I too thought it was pretty classy that Kyle Bush did not take out Harrison Burton and he could have easily. A great win for Burton who needed it but even more so for the wood Brothers who I have been following since the late 1960s.

It's going to be tough for Kyle Larson to be chosen by fans as the most popular driver because of his approach, on track, to those he's upset with. I personally think he is the best driver in Cup right now, but I don't care for his lifelong habit of going way out of his way to make contact with cars after he feels they wronged him. It has resulted in several competitors being wrecked intentionally. I use to think it was hardly happening at all, but then I saw him do it on a regular basis when he was a preteen racing go carts.

Corey LaJoie got turned first, but per several drivers descriptions, including Chase Elliot, it was caused by the strategy of the day amongst team to NOT LEAD, which caused Ross Chastain to slow dramatically, which caused the car behind him to brake drastically, which caused a chain reaction of Corey braking even harder, which got Corey piled into according to Chase and around Corey went.
So that doesn't make it thanks to or caused by Corey. It was caused by a consensus of the engineers playing a fuel mileage game, that became a dangerous game on the track.
