You can see dougies tears building right from the get go. I always felt after he left the leafs that his heart stayed in Toronto. To all you smaller kids who are told you'll never make it because of your size...play with heart like Mr. Gilmour did and things will workout for you. Thanks for the memories dougie.
It's a different game now. Size isn't as important. I mean, you can argue ALL YOU WANT TO, but being from Windsor, Ontario, home of the Windsor Spitfires in the Ontario Hockey League, I just have one name, Ryan Ellis !! A defenseman from the Spits, now playing for the Nashville Predators, and still a defenseman. Oh ya, his height ? A towering 5'9 !! So, while it use to be about size, it no longer is...but it's still about the heart !! Thanks Dougie !! For that old-time hockey !!!
I didn't see tears. I saw alot of him being humble. I don't think he liked the attention. Remember he had a few issues when playing. Most of all, his babysitter accusing him of sexual assault. And in Windsor shortly after the untimely death of Bob Probert, I saw him with Dani, Bob's wife. And yes, they were dating. So.e drink ass yells out, 'hey Gilmour, you wouldn't be with her if #24 was still alive" !! He smirked, she left.
I think Dougie missed having a heavyweight who could protect him a bit and rip shots top cheese on his wing especially lol Dougie and Wendel was a deadly combo.
Im 49 watching and remembering this.... Dougies years in Toronto were also some of the best years of my life. We had Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto Maple Leafs grit, Paul Morrison, the fans, the go leafs go chant... the city was on fire in the early 90's. Great times. Thanks Dougie 93.
how do these videos have so few views??? this is legend - i saw dougie play at gardens and he was in the box near the end of the game - whole stadium was cheering "DOU-GIE DOU-GIE!" while a fight broke out and he was at the door just itching to jump in what a beauty
Not posted from the official Leafs channel. Not posted when it should have been many years ago. Apparently some fan needs to do this work for the team and network.
Watching it in 2020.....Guys was an old time hockey great. Gritty player not afraid to muck it up. Glad the Leafs gave him the honor of retiring his number. Awesome video.
LOL what do you mean respectful? Did you think the Leaf fans would boo his parents and junior coaches? Of course the fans would cheer for them. I can't wait to for the Alumni game, seeing Gilmour, Sundin, Tucker, Domi and Clark together again is going to be a treat.
He was one of the Leafs best, most cherished , hard working guys out there on the ice,,,, UNFORTUNATELY , he didn't have the best team mates, as in , what it took to get the final job done,,,,,, Ya cant win Stanley Cups with just one or two top performers ! ! ! You need a village to raise idiots - - - And - If there's no good idiots,,,,, well then,,,not such a great villiage EH ! ! ! ! ! mo fo's ;-(
I would argue he had some great players with him...but no one carried the team like he did. That is, no one would inspire others to greatness the way he did. Felix Potvin in net, Nikolai Borchevsky and Dave Andreychuck were all great players, and of course, there was Wendel Clark as well. People forget, 1993 was the first playoff appearance by the Leafs since 1990, and their first Conference Finals appearance since 1978, after which the dreaded Harold Ballard era entered its peak, ruining great captains like Darryl Sittler and Dave Keon.

47: ditto. what a playoff run.
😊 most agreed, and a Baba Booey to you all!
Greatest introduction ever written, no exaggeration. A PERFECT capture of who he was.
Thanks for putting this up. Brought back so many great memories watching hockey night in Canada with my dad..
I will echo your comment in 2022, my dad and I also watched a lot of hockey together
This is the single greatest retirement ceremony in sports history. Speech like it was written by Shakespeare. Greet video, great music. Just the best.
I love seeing a legend getting honored. Much respect to you Gilmour.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
Nothing brings back childhood memories like Bob Cole calling a Leafs game on a Saturday night.

One of the most intense and played with the most heart a true Maple Leaf. "Killer"
I was at this game, gave me chills ❤
We Love You Killer 93 best Leaf ever!!!
Watching it in 2020.....Guys was an old time hockey great. Gritty player not afraid to muck it up. Glad the Leafs gave him the honor of retiring his number. Awesome video.
😊 Will never forget the 93 playoffs: Gaunt, 20 lbs underweight, battling like a warrior.
Dougie, Nik, Wendel, Sylvan, Ken, and Felix!
What a beauty. Will always be my favorite of all time
great tribute to a great hockey player Doug Gilmour
Who's watching this with me in 2019?
2020
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Doug gilmore the sylvestor stallone of the NHL
greatest leaf of all time and one greatest ever in the sport.
Fletcher fleeced his boy Riseborough.
He was clipped by Gretzky's stick in 1993, The Leafs would have won the cup vs Montreal.
The end.
Was there as witness. But we can’t turn back time. Also saw killer wrap around goal against blues.
What a beauty
a man's man. didn't get to see you play much, but the first few times I saw you I went...Who is this guy?
the last true lea, pure grit and determination a heart that cant be contained
the doug flutie of the NHL. loved Gilmore.
That's what you get if you make it to the Conference Finals in Toronto, imagine the players that win the next cup... I'm thinking statues.
If only this modern leafs team could play with this heart.
I love him still.
Dosen't get much better than that folks
It must be like be watching your soul going to heaven
Killer!
If you want to know why the Leafs did what they did this year in the playoffs, it's that they didn't have this heart.
right
LOL what do you mean respectful? Did you think the Leaf fans would boo his parents and junior coaches? Of course the fans would cheer for them. I can't wait to for the Alumni game, seeing Gilmour, Sundin, Tucker, Domi and Clark together again is going to be a treat.
Leafs won this one 4-zip. Honored Dougie well!
Small correction. Dougie is not "the killer". He's "Killer". Its a name, not a title. :)
Who's watching this with me in 2021?
My favorite player ever. Datsyuk is my 2nd.
That's love
What a boss
i got to play the front 9 of Dunderave PEI
93 was the greatest player the leafs never had.
What a great player! But why in the world did the Leafs ever trade him to Chicago?!?!
I remember him as a Flame first.
Great tribute until the end. Nik Antropov??? Threw up a little in my mouth...
Rapperswil/Jona 1994 🇨🇭👍
He was one of the Leafs best, most cherished , hard working guys out there on the ice,,,,
UNFORTUNATELY , he didn't have the best team mates, as in , what it took to get the final job
done,,,,,,

Killer enough said
He was known as Killer, not The Killer, just saying...
I noticed Sid and Andropov didn’t shake hands...🤔
Leafs fan's always talking bout '93. Like they would have beat the Habs ?

I hate that Bono is used for these moments.
no banner in St.Louis, just a wanted poster.
my mom did his hair
Unbelievable they did this for a diddler
There’s a hockey player 👍👍👍To bad he wasted time with the Maple laughs
There was rumours that Wendel Clark and Glenn Anderson were gay.
I heard your father was gay.
