One of the better and certainly classiest NHLers to not win a Cup. He'll be missed.
I think the sedins are the classiest players to never win a Stanley cup
@@slapshot1009
Yes, they, too, would be in that group.
Actual Quote from John Tortorella
@@brandonprice1301
I'm not clear. What is the quote? My comment?
@@slapshot1009Marcel dionne
I love that Joe went for a handshake Marleau went straight for a hug. That’s brotherhood.
Marleau is gay for him

Amazing. The tears say it all. They LOVED playing hockey and LOVED playing together. We LOVED watching them.
Two probable Hall of Famers not winning a Stanley Cup.
Blues fan here. Those two gave us some hell over the years. But man, as a hockey fan, they were something spectacular to watch.
@@NikoXC08 10 or 11 years ago was a good time for sharks. Pavelski, thornton, marleau, burns etc. Tomas hertl who scored 4 goals in his debut game. If i remember right. Even his parents were watching.
A lot don’t………. But they still put on a “ Clinic.”!!!!!!!👀😎👍🌟🇨🇦
I'm a Red Wings fan and I fucking HATED playing the Sharks in the early 2010s because of these two, but goddamnit they're both fuckin' beauties.
Marleau will say the same about Jumbo when 19 is retired
i assume so
Randy Hahn calling the game "He shoots he scores! Patrick Marleau!" Gotta be one of my favorite calls in all of sports. I loved hearing those words on Shark nights!
Bruins fan here .. I love both those guys! So cool!
Go Kings Go! Die hard Kings fan here...thank you for the memories and the constant competition which you brough for your team and against the Kings. God bless you and your family!
I'll never forget giving Luc Robatille a standing ovation at the end of the last game of his career, at HP pavillion with 17,495 of my closest friends. I was 17 at the time, and playing and watching hockey were probably the most important things in my life at that moment, with the benefit of hindsight. It meant a lot to me to be part of a group that could put competition aside for a moment and embrace each other's humanity.
I'm an Oilers fan, but that was beautiful to watch. Both great players 👏
My wife and I were so happy to go see Patrick Marleau jersey retirement. We enjoyed the game against the Blackhawks after, but seriously we were just in tears and just so happy to see Patrick Marleau and all these other people he played with their and other Legends like Rollie Fingers and Barry Bonds show up. The first-ever San Jose Sharks jersey retired. Truly epic
Goosebumps watching this, even tho as a Penguins fan it hurt a little bit seeing Joe and Marleau not being the ones to lift the cup that year in the final 2016.
Much respect to each player for their career and putting up the numbers that they did. It sucks growing up knowing that these special players wont occur as much as they will and i really hope they will get the chance to lift a cup in their lifetime.
As an Oilers fan, I’m watching this as a hockey fan and damn that was beautiful
Thornton’s beard is off the charts and awesome for Marleau to get his jersey in the rafters
Great stuff Sharks
Peace everyone
Well darn it, my eyes are leaking again. Such a special night. So great to be there for it in person.
Loved them both....especially for the short time they both played for the Leafs. Great guys..and great players.
Grew up in NJ. I moved to the Bay Area when I was 21 in 2003. I’m absolutely blessed to have witnessed Patty play.
I was fortunate enough to see many, many games at the Tank with these two on the ice. Thanks for the memories, Patrick and Joe!
was never a sharks fan, but god damn i always wanted Thornton, Marleau, and Nabokov to win that cup in San Jose, especially when they started getting up there in age, they deserved it
this video leaves me in tears. thank you boys for the wonderful childhood i will never forget. Flip yeah I got both of their 05-6 jerseys.
We became Sharks Hockey Fans from the first game at the Cow Palace. Retiring Patrick Marleau # 12 hockey shirt was an amazing, touching and inspiring experience. An epic event in Hockey history. Patty represents the best of all, in one human being! God bless you Patrick and your beautiful family. Thanks for the memories.
i was 14 years old when i got my first PC. The first two games i got were Half-Life and NHL98. Soon after NHL99. I was playing solely San Jose Sharks and even if i wasn't able to watch the actuall games (i'm from Europe) back in the days, these two players were on my roster non-stop. Watching this, my memories comes back ... amazing how far and for how long these players stayed together. I'm thankful to the UA-cam algorithm, that it showed me this video. Best whishes to both of them from Slovakia 💌
Wow, the jersey retirement that I didn't know I needed.
such a crazy moment...reminds me of when Ray Bourque Finally Lifted the cup !
this moment will never be forgotten... 2 legends.. just ballin as the look back at their time as players. and friends.
fkn epic.
As a Boston fan who's seen him play for us in #19 in those days, i'd say San Jose should send his number up too.
oh they absolutely will
Thanks for sharing Brodie. Tears in my eyes too. Partly because I had a ticket to the game but got stuck in a winter storm and couldn't make it. 😢
What a great organization.
When Thornton was here in Boston, a buddy of mine and myself went to see a boxing match at Foxwoods Casino in CT. We walk around the corner and there is Thornton standing in the middle of the hallway with a beer in each hand. My buddy says “ he must be in training”…”Congratulations Joe and Patrick!
I worked at the Sharks stadium for 4 years and I got to see these guys walk out on the ice every home game....magick
Loved watching the late 2000's early 2010's Sharks teams. So much fun. Islanders fan here and would get the hockey package each year back then to just watch San Jose and Detroit games. Loved how those teams just played and moved the puck.
Not to sound like a Bruins fan sore about the trade decades ago, but all I ever see with Joe when he is playing against us or I hear his name is the thought of all the lost memories we as Bruins fans would have had with Jumbo as our star. Props to the Sharks for believing in the guy. It's been fun watching him dominate the league for two decades approaching three? However long it's been grats on a terrific career so far. As a Bruins fan we will always love you big guy.
We likely don't have the same team in 2011, or win with him here. I'd take the cup over Thornton. But yeah, I wish he was here longer, he was my favorite Bruin for awhile and I followed SJ a long time while he was there. I wish he got a cup. Really wanted them to beat Pitt.
Not gonna lie I teared up a little. The two guys who really put the Sharks on the map.
One of the best duo
Thanks for posting this for the fans who didnt get to see it.
ive cried at the avs winning the cup. but god dang this was real close. so happy for them
Just two Canadian boys who became “Brothers” . And who contributed to bring excitement to the “ Tank.”👀😎👏👍👋🌟✌️🇨🇦
#12🌟❤️🇨🇦
I'm not the biggest NHL fan, but this seems a lot to me as a Dallas fan, like Dirk felt to us. Very happy to see you guys have him retire with you guys, beautiful ceremony ❤️
I'm a fan of both, and it's a very apt comparison. Maybe with the exception that Dirk led you to a championship and never ever left, but the feeling is the same.
Two Leafs legends right there. Joking aside, this was an awesome moment for them.
Delusional
He needs his own wall in the HHOF. This man oozes respect both on and off the ice.
Marleau never won the cup but he is still one of the best players ever in the NHL plus well respected.
Marleau, Thornton, Iginla.
@NooDLES411911 : Sure but the video is about Marleau.
Sundin to
Man just seems like yesterday i was watching them first drafted . Its insane how time flies . Freakin canadian beauties
You're missed Joe. You've been my favorite player since i first saw you play for the Bruins. Wish you could have won a cup.
Nothing but respect for these two. Hockey is the best damn sport out there no questions asked
OK. Whoever is in here cutting onions needs to stop it right now 😭😂 what a pair of legends 👏👏👏
Awww tear in’ up over all the cups they never won. Room mates and foster in’ bonds. 💕
The NHL is a paradise for hockey. 😘
2 legends amazing love u guys
Two absolute beauties right there. Congrats Patty Marleau
San José fans seinzed the moments. salute from Montreal fan!
Brought tears to my eyes❤
Respect from World. Nhl is special party🔥
You don’t have to be a sharks fan to really enjoy watching this.
The last time I payed attention to hockey Thornton was on the Bruins. I wish him all the best 🤙
Favorite player ever and that will not change.
I love Marleau, 12 has always been my number. They are both absolute class acts, love from Red Wings fan.
THIS is sport. THIS is love. THIS IS HOCKEY! Absolutely amazing ceremony and overly deserved.
I swear I wasnt crying, these dang onions tho.........
Absolutely love this. Congratulations Patrick
Aw😢 Best years
Loved both them guys huge joe fan
It seems like I've been watching Marleau play for most of my life. I'm so glad he became a Shark. Unfortunately, and let this be a lesson kids, life is not fair. Marleau and Thornton are both future Hall Of Famers and enjoyed very successful long careers, but neither got to win the Cup. They both deserved it very much, but life is not fair. You do what you can and you persevere, regardless.
A fine player indeed.
Those tears of thankfulness...😭💙 Man who's cutting the onions?? Gaahhdamn
И воины льда тоже плачут!
Браво Парни!!!!
Much respect
It’s a shame they never got the cup for the Sharks. But hats off to both for the great memories! Big salute & enjoy the retirement..we’ll deserved!
Oh just a couple good ole Canadian boys
I'm not crying, I just have something in both of my eyes.
Those tears show they did everything they could
One of the best tandems ever, when I think SJ I think joe and patty it is sad to see the old guard signing out one by one.
I miss those days.
Biggest bromance in NHL history 🥹
As a Canadian and a leafs fan, thank you Sam Jose sharks for letting jumbo and patty grace our team with some time. These two guys are what hockey is about.
Lol
it's touchable
Let's go sharks....
Habby Retirement Joe ♥️♥️♥️♥️
selänne and kariya were my childhood, patty and joe were the young adulthood
Marleau possibly most likeable player of all time. A Quite general, just like Yzerman. Remember the old days , Vinnie damphouse , Marleau, Owen Nolan, Selanne 💯
Великие игроки . Легенды !!! Классная была тройка Марло - Торнтон - Штурм .
Awesome.
молодцы всегда приятно смотреть на профессионалов Патрик и Джо очень мощно играли Сан Хосе отличная команда👍👍👍👏👏👏
Wish we could have seen big Joe lift the cup, but a great career nonetheless.
i wish the bruins never traded joe thorton .. the short time he was a bruin he was awesome ..
thats pretty darned fantastic
Jumbo’s number will be up in the rafters beside Marleau’s next year 🦈Sharks Legends Teal Forever
I was wondering if he is worthy of the same. I’m a kings fan so not sure about the years played there, stats, etc got to be up there though
@@vicdamon3551 15 years 1,055pts franchise assist leader as a Shark. Definitely worthy
@@hellhammer5504 that’s what I figured. Thanks
Much deserved
As a bruins fan since the ‘60’s it was one of the worst decisions the organization ever made was to trade thorton away, he was a beast on the ice all those years
They won the cup in 2011 made two other finals. The Sharks never won one
@@ericw3229 It's not about that.🙄
Go kings go!
very cool!
Let's Go Team Canada!
I'm gonna miss that era of Sharks hockey: Patty, Jumbo, & Pavelski. Hopefully Mike Grier can bring greatness to the franchise.
damn Im old,I remember Joes rookie year
hockey players seem to age very fast after leaving the game. i recall seeing sundin two years after retiring and he looked 65. jumbo and patty look old man.
respect jumbo joe grew up watching him on the sharks
This day will always be a cherished memory I have with my little guy. I can't wait to tell him all the great memories I have watching my favorite hockey player showing what it takes to be a leader of men 🦈
I feel old.
If he shaved that beard he’d look 20 years younger. The thing makes him look like a senior.
Хороший хоккеист 💯💪🔝❗️✊ жаль что не получилось поднять кубок 🥶🤜🤛😎
Wtf am I crying right now holy jeezzzus
This is true bromance
JT19 has a sexy voice.
No, not the blackhawks guy.
Now put 19 up in the rafters.
