I’m not nervous about the physical part. I’m more worried about knowing the required knowledge.
I’ve been working out, running, and teaching myself how to deal with stress (I work in a restaurant without taking breaks) and weening myself off of coffee and trying to gain weight (I’m a little skinny) and studying and stuff. I don’t want to get there and be unprepared!!!
That’s how the army was back when I went to Army Basic Combat Training, back in 2007. They require you to study this really thick book they gave us when we first got there. It had all the Army rank system, soldiers creed, and lots more things. And if you wasn’t able to pass all graduation requirements in the 10 weeks we was there, you would be recycled (reverted), and after three recycles, they would discharge you out as not being physically fit for Army standards. You wasn’t able to quit, you stayed those extra cycles until you either passed, or failed out after three recycles. I can’t imagine doing 4 ten week basic trainings, back to back. The Army BCT was pretty rough back then... so it’s def not something I’d would of wanted to do for like 40 straight weeks. But we did have a few that got recycled in basic training. One was a sick call ranger, (someone that goes to sick call everyday, faking an injury. Our drill sergeants played along with one of my fellow battle buddies, went along with the sick call ranger like this so called soldier had a very serious leg injury and was gonna have to be medically discharged, but not until our actual set graduation date. Well, the day before graduation they showed this sick call ranger camera footage of him walking without his crutches, written statements from some other training soldiers about how he was faking and things they had seen. Then told him he would be staying another 10 weeks to repeat basic all over. So this just went through 10 weeks of faking, then was gonna have to stay for another 10 because he thought he was clever.
Living in San Antonio, TX and leaving February 5th. Wish me luck!
how did it turn out for you
Never send a navy boy to do a coastguard man's job. Semper Peratus! Greetings from the Washington coast. ⚓⚓⚓
Whatever you say shallow water sailor.
@@TheRealEric__1 that's a perfect navy boy description mate.
This advice is just so raw and truthful. Thanks for sharing your experience, words of advice and most of all thank you for your service.
Shipping out the 23rd! Definitely excited and nervous lol
I’m going to MEPS tomorrow and probably shipping out sometime in November/December!
Amanda L just finished MEPS today
@@militaryjourneymen I would like to know more about the coast guard
Did you make it
How're you doing now?!
This is awesome, I'm leaving for boot camp in a couple months!
Im in the auxiliary and this channel has motivated me many times to learn more, do better, study harder, and give me more motivation to serve the gold side folks. Thanks for sharing this information, it not only helps the active and prospective folks but us older guys/gals who serve behind the scenes. I currently work at an air station a few times a month serving in the galley and also at a boat station working on my PQS to get boat force qualified. thanks and keep up the great work.
This is good, I was actually stationed in Duluth Mn. On the USCGC Sundew.
Thank you man! I've been training hard and have been really sinking my teeth into the thought of being a part of the USCG and am on the pursuit.
How did it go? Did you join ?
Love the intro!
I go to meps on the 19th and will hopefully be sent out to basic shortly after
Im probably late but thanks for this I am gonna seriously start preparing right now.
When do you go to basic ?
So is it okay to go into boot nervous? It seems everyone on these cg boot videos seem amped and untouchable, but I’m personally going to be kind of stressed
how was it?
Wait till you get there. But don't sweat it. Everyone takes at least one dump by the end of week 1.
This is interesting. My prep consisted of my BM1 and AT1 recruiters telling to bring nothing but a change of cloths and some "sneakers" and the ADAPT. Good luck to all who feel the need to "prep".
Wow. You'e awesome.
I just completed my application for the Coast Guard....Wish me luck!!!
GL!

Great intro man. Did you make that?
Im leaving tomorrow morning and I'm glad i clicked your video. Having a goal in mind makes me feel better
You got this!
How’d it go
Shipping out May 19th!
Hey can you tell me exactly everything that I will be tested on academically? Like every test possible that they test you on? Im a terrible test taker so i need to study now if i can pass. The physical stuff i have mastered and its bot a big deal for me. But I’m super worried about any tests they will give me? I heard they will test me on the required knowledge of the helmsmen Coast Guard booklet and lines handles, knots and seamen ship is there anything else that I should study thanks appreciate it man? I just want to be prepared i leave to bootcamp in the summer.
Thanks!
Do they give you a lil exposure to each job in boot camp before you get to choose a rate ?
Plan on enlisting this summer
Have you started the process? Personally, I’ve eliminated the “I’ll do it later” mindset from my life. There is always time today. Don’t wait for tomorrow.
Greetings brothers and sisters!

Semper Paratus.
I haven’t studied much😭 I haven’t learned the damn knowledge yet. Rip me I ship out the 13th of Nov.
Zacky P how’d it go?
Yeah how did it go?
You good my guy?
Hey Jullian got a question for you. My stepson going to boot camp July 9th. I took him swimming today and I was surprised how he could barely make it from one end of the pool to the other. My friend's Aunt who used to teach swimming to little kids is going to spend two to three times a week for the next 3 weeks teaching him how to swim in her backyard pool. Hopefully that will be enough.when you went to bootcamp were there a lot of people that couldn't pass the swim test. I don't want him to be getting up an hour early.
Ship out December 18th
How would I download the Helmsman?
I’m really considering Being I’m the coast guard but. I have Retinitis Pigmentosa Which is a eye disease that causes Terrible Night Blindness and Tunnel Vision. Do you think I could still go with no night vision?
I’m taking my asvab the 13th of February and going thru Meps on the 14th of February I’m so nervous and scared
I gotta get way more endurance.
I am 11 and want to join the Coast Guard when I’m older
Went in in 1963. They treat u fairly Get in shape
I didn’t see the link for the helmsman download in your description area. Can you please provide that? I’ve already purchased your book, but I expect that the helmsman is going to be expected at Boot Camp.
Shipping out the 29th 😅
What if I have terrible eyesight and wear contacts?
Is tip 3 mainly for the active coast guard members?
Hi. Can anyone link me to the Helmsman Julian is referring to? 🙌🏼🙏🏻
Shipping off December 1st!!
GL!
What other academic materials did you have to do?
I’m a little young to join haha but i want to be prepared any tips?
Why u emphasize deluth is it common to go there
Any specific recommendations for gaining weight?
I ship out on the 8th and I’m scared
Practically just graduated high school.. and leaving on July 7, nervous as hell but also excited for the future. What are some ways I could get reverted? Just academically and physically?
how'd you do???
What are swimming requirements
I have Autism Spectrum Disorder (formerly Asperger's) and rotational scoliosis. This is definitely not fit for me. I greatly respect the Coast Guard, you guys keep us safe at sea, but there is a LOT of physical and mental stress in training, and as a person with mild Autism, I will be overwhelmed, and there is no room for error in the military. Sorry to share that, but an important statement for those with disabilities.
Want you to know that you can do anything you set your mind to!!!
What is the most amount of times you've heard of somebody being reverted before they graduated from boot camp. Other people who've been reverted as much as four or five times and still made it through bootcamp I'm sure they must have a limit
@@militaryjourneymen thank you. Have you known anybody has been reverted that amount of times
Ship out Nov 19!!!
Roshad Butler I wish you the best!!
Hey Julian I’m a freshman in high school and wanting to join The USCG what are some things i can do to prepare myself, is there any summer camps I can go to I just really want to be prepared for when I do join
Julian Miyata thank you so much
Are you issued a lot of clothes/uniforms in boot camp?
Should I bring an empty bag to my sons graduation?
Thank you. Appreciate the reply and the videos, it’s been a big help to us
What personal possessions are you allowed to have with you? I just watched a video on CG basic, and everybody at the bus boarding point had backpacks stuffed with who knows what. I thought you generally wouldn't be allowed personal possessions except toiletries, glasses, etc., and that everything you need would be issued to you.
I ship the 8th of October GG
Good luck! my son Cameron goes in this September 14th. Trying to get him to study more of the Helmsman.
i am in the coast guard auxiliary right now and i started boat crew training a couple weeks ago. if i pass and am boat crew qualified will that help me in boot camp?
Definitely. You'll already have a grasp of the nautical terminology (featured in The Helmsman), and the hands-on seamanship training. At boot camp, everything you know in advance helps a lot. If you continue and earn your coxswain qualification, you can usually enlist at E-3 (without any college credit).
How deep is the pool? Can you do girl pushups or the standard for women?
The run is especially important.I got sent home because I couldn't make the run time
@@militaryjourneymen yes,absolutely.
That's brutal man. I'm still getting in shape myself. What time did you run while you were there?
@@vivi_for_real ran a 14:37.the cutoff is 14:08.They let you retest once, but if you fail again, they boot you.
Joshua Freeman if you want to go back or let say switch branches do you have to retake the asvab
@@luckypickle3996 no,that would only be the case if I had waited 2 years from the date that I originally took the test
Are you currently an AST?
You mentioned rescue swimmer school, are you a rescue swimmer?
No I dropped out
What are the books called again that we should stidy before bootcamp?
I’m talking to a recruiter now but I’m going to study and get fit before
Just know your helmsman or get the CG Boot camp survival guide for extra knowledge
For any of you that think your prepared. Your not. I had some guys joke with me saying they cried. Thing is. I thought they where joking. They wherent. It can be really difficult for the younger guys who haven't matured much yet. They really do make your life absolutely miserable. If you ever think your prepared for boot camp, your not going to do well. I had the mentality that I was prepared enough and I had to grow up fast.
IT definitely helps to study and learn as much about it beforehand, we have a masterchief who came to our group pt session's and he told us to definitely try and learn as much as you can going in. Everybody knows bootcamp will be challenging , but having a positive attitude and trying to be as prepared as you can be definitely won't hurt. I leave in a month.
The one reason I don’t want to join is I don’t want to be away from my girlfriend that long AND unable to use my cell phone during that time to contact her much. We’re grown adults and it’s 2023. The military needs to change this if they want any intelligent members on their team…
Do reserves go to the same bootcamp?
Yes
Best way to prepare is to join the Marines and after Parris Island, Coast Guard boot camp will seem like day care.
@@militaryjourneymen LOL, I'M on the base everyday. Good recruit training.
U have to shave your head correct?
