By me being an African American woman, its weird seeing that she couldn't describe her race as "African American", "kinky coarse hair" and she couldn't even look him in the face an talk about her ethnicity. #QuiteCringy sis but overall the tips were kinda helpful
I believe because as my grandmother used to say today people run it in ground. Sis I am chocolate 🍫 it is stupid and silly as a Black lady to keep shoving your complexion down a human's throat today. They know you Black ⚫ duh 🙄 it just looks stupid ' to me to keep telling someone I'm Black i have nappy hair ' 🤔 ❓
@@daffodilstalkshow672 Being black does not equal nappy nor does it have anything to do with complexion. Black people are of all different complexions. And her saying AA or black isn't shoving it down anyone's throat🙄

HelenAngel is an amazing role model. I love how you learned how to fit into the mold both ethnically and gender-wise. I also like how you took advantage of the training offered before you enlisted. Glad you made it through the gauntlet with the sleep deprivation, psychological stressing, etc. Those are the hardest pieces and probably the most germane to combat experience.
You still look like a princess, though. Back in the day, princesses were trained with the sword as soon as they could lift one.

Id personally say lifted, drifting seems to insinuate some aimless or pointless change in course, but I love and agree with the rest of what you said. Im very sad there arent more options for your beautiful naturally kinky hair sis, but love how adaptive and strong and honest you are.
Really got the most awkward girl for this. My recruiter told me to do things like get a Pap smear before or else they do it there.

I was originally planning to join the marines but I’m starting to fully consider Coast Guard. I want to be a AST and I know you have to be a E5 to be a CoastGuard Diver, but if I’m given the chance I would love to do all of that.
I am this way except I wanted to do airforce. What put me off first was the shitty jokes the general public seems to have, it made coast guard seem lazy which is not true at all

Just graduated High School (18) I'm going to be going to my second MEPS appointment soon. I hope that I get a base that has on base housing. I can't wait to serve our country.

Had the opportunity to talk about, period, shaving privates if needed, unibrow, sports bra and underwear. But talked mostly about hair :))

@@kristinabible7774 I deleted my comment in case it was offensive. That being said, as a former Coastie, the least of our concerns was shaving our privates. There was no time. Showers were hurried. And we didn't even have periods while we were there due to the extreme physical conditions. Unless boot camp is not as difficult as it was in 1988. Also, if someone is that sensitive, basic training may not be for them.

Not everybody with curly and wavy hair are black/ African American. Indians, Latinos, Arabs, Polynesians, etc are examples. Expand your horizons, read some books..

A how to, the different uniforms you get issued at boot camp and when to wear them.... and do the CC’s tell you what to wear everyday or is there a daily uniform routine that you just know what to wear?
Usually they tell you what you’re wearing. If you’re going to the gym or the galley or whatever it is, you either wear your operational dress uniform or you wear your PF gear. Usually it’s your ODs that you’ll be wearing unless you are told otherwise.

Julian’s totally right, you’ll do a swim test in boot camp that takes place in an indoor pool. After that, the only outdoor swimming you’ll do will be for training, with a dry suit that keeps you from enduring cold water
The water wasnt cold. Youll be fine. especially in warmer months but expect to be comfortable

Is it safe?? Why do they have to scream at you??!! Not necessary at all to scream. Stress is bad!!!!!!!!!
They simulate stressful situations to get you ready to serve. It’s loud on cutters and not all situations will be calm. My recruiter told me it’s to make sure we can be loud enough to be heard by others.
Can I shave my head as a female?
Sure! Would make life easier

Just to add on to the swim part, the test is 100 meters I think; and you’ll have the opportunity at boot camp to better your swim skills if you need. I would practice before boot camp but don’t let it stop you from joining, you’ll get it I promise!

Female Coast guard needs to cut their Hair into boy cut?
No you can put it in a slick bun or have it cut short above I believe your chin most likely would want it out of your eyes

Why don't they just shave the girls' hair?
My guess is a girls hair plays more of a role in a girls identity than it does of a guy. Not saying guys don’t care about their hair because they do. But guys are more known to have shorter hair so it wouldn’t be as big of a identity change vs female hair is long and would take probably close to 5 years or more to grow back to what it once was.
