Just joined the coast guard I’ve been out of boot camp for a month and I got stationed on an ice breaker. Best advice I can give anyone is have an open mind about all the different opportunities the military provides for you. I initially thought that being on an ice breaker was gonna suck but I love it. Even though I haven’t broken ice yet, just doing the off-season operations it’s fun as hell. And another piece of advice is just stay motivated. Weather that be during your time working or time off. Get out and experience all that your units location provides.
@@ethanfrance2124haha I was a nonrate on the Abbie Burgess. Rockland ME sucked lol. I’m now a EM at a sector. Funny how I found this comment. How is it going for you after 3 years?
10:35…that was me right there! I got out active duty at 25, realized being a regular civilian sucks, rejoined again at 30 and still in now. The biggest advice I can give is don’t underestimate Tricare like I did 🤦🏾♂️
I'm an old retired guy now but wish I could have seen this video especially and many of your other videos before I joined the CG. So much good information for someone thinking about joining the Coast Guard. I made pretty much all the mistakes you mentioned, lol. Joined at 20 and spent most of my looong 4 years (I didn't think they went that quickly at the time) partying and counting days until I could get out and get a real job. Other than being young and dumb I hadn't had enough work experience in the world to realize what a great job I had or realize how much I enjoyed it. (RD3) I started realizing my mistake in my last 6 months but felt I should be at least E-5 to re enlist. (another mistake) Two weeks after I got out I realized how much I missed it and how happy I had been. I did get my degree (thanks to the CG) and tried for OCS but didn't have the math education to score high enough on the test. Another mistake for younger people..take the math courses that you think you will never use...you'll need them for job test. I stopped when I didn't get an interview but could have still tried again, re enlisted as RD3, or gone reserves. More mistakes...I've had a very successful and full filling life but always regretted not working harder to make rank and making it a career. Proud to look back on my CG time now! I saw a comment here that you are married...maybe do a video on being married in the Coast Guard. That was also one of the reasons I got out...thought it might be too hard to be married when on a white one so long.
Thats great advice just bang college out the way. Just knocking out your pre-recs help a lot. My only opinion pick the school you know your gonna grad from. Credits from other schools dont always transfer. If you know your gonna get out and go to a school near home just apply there from the kit go.
As of last year I did talk to recruiter and I did the asvab which I failed btw made vid about it lol, this July I really thought about it and I really wanna join the coast guard in IT or ME so I just wanna join for a career my guy

Hello, Julian, do Coast Guard sailors live on or off base?
Do you know if the coast guard has any firefighting programs, I know that the dc do some firefighting and that’s what I have been really looking into
Hey Julian! Interesting stuff. Just wondering, does everybody have to take the coastguard oath or is that optional?
I would assume that's required. You are essentially joining to serve
You swear in
Are you married to someone in the military or oustside?
Outside
Still married?
Yes, forgot the ring
