After UPI, VISA and Master card had to cut down fees as Government reduced charges on rupay card also, along with free UPI. Card companies had no option but to cut charges to save their business in India.
Serves them right. In UK I once had to suffer helluva lot.
What UPI had to do with Credit card biz ? They are in totally different biz segments.
The Average ticket size for credit cards was ₹4,968 and for UPI it was ₹1,582 in June 2023

In India now rarely people use card. We are more into digital payment as it is safe and quick from 1 rupee to 50000 you can do payment from UPI. But in card you can't make small payment as there are restrictions

I never carry cash for last 2 yrs..no wallet at all..we can travel by phone can pay in metro,buses,airport ,ola,uber,etc...and fact is if i lost mobile phone then within one hr we can track our all transection and block all thing jst one click by other phone...thats it.

I've done UPI transaction abroad, hence qualified to answer this, well there is no charges on each transaction, rather the charges is on foreign bank, once a year, thats way too less than visa mastercard charges, and the fx will be considered of that day

I have been using UPI from the Day it was introduced. We use it for as small as even Rs(₹) 5 or 10. It works & very safe & reliable.

Baaki dusre desho ke Different Online payment apps & banks..Upi jo ki ek payment gateway h (just like visa & mastercard) uske saath collaborate kr rhe just like India ke andar Paytm, Gpay, Phonepe,etc online payment platforms/apps pr payment gateway option me debit/credit card, e-wallet, gift-card ke saath saath real-time transaction gateway Upi bhi included hota/as option available hota h.

UPI is a platform for digital transfer of money locally in India… now across border in few countries. We need to see actual use cases and ease of transfer of money when using across border . Gov of India shud publish data on cross border UPI transactions happening so far . Without data , it will be only assumptions, perceptions & empty stories . Let us not start rejoicing prematurely

There is no way India will cross $10 trillion by 2030. This guy is delusional. But I agree on the entire topic. If everything goes very optimistic, India will reach $10 trillion by 2032. But realistically, it will reach only around 2035.

UPI system is only a convenient faster way of payment system avoiding carrying prepaid forex cards or usual credit cards or currency. However there is always foreign exchange involved and the conversion factor of the local currency of that country and INR is decided again linking both currency values to USD . Suppose if we travel to Singapore, if USD 1 = INR 81.83 and
1 USD = SGD 1.33 , then SGD 1.33 = INR 81.33 . that is SGD 1 = INR 61.15. I guess involving USD is inevitable. However instead of two conversions, straight away SGD to INR may save some money as there will be only one conversion. If we take prepaid card in USD and have to pay in SGD there will be two conversions. One while purchasing prepaid card in India for buying USD and one conversion from USD to SGD for buying or paying in Singapore. But if we carry hard currency of INR it can also be converted straight away to hard currency of local country in airport or exchange centers in some asian countries like Singapore, Thailand, etc but hard currency exchange conversion gives very less money to the customer than paying through forex card or prepaid card or UPI transfer system. More so many countries will not accept for exchanging INR to their local currencies.
