Did a little research on Old Crow. It cost about 10 bucks at my local store. Was surprised to find out at one time is was one of the 3-5 best selling whiskies in America. It wasn't half bad.
Really thoughtful and nice. I truly appreciate it. On a side note, Old Crow really isn't bad. Did some research on it, at one time it was one of the top selling whiskies in America
When I was in high school, my dad and I took a trip to England. We toured around most of the country and went to Paris for the weekend as well. It was great fun and I’m glad I got the experience. Before the return trip, we bought a bottle of scotch that had been aged my age at the time, 15 years. The plan had been to open it when I turned 21. (My brother had done the same on his Europe trip four years prior). Now, no one in my family is really much of whisk(e)y drinker. My 21st birthday came and went, and that bottle is still sitting unopened and gathering dust on top of my dad’s fridge. (My brother’s bottle is also unopened.) Now, I’ve been watching your channel for a couple months now, and I’ve loved it! I’ve been inspired to try different whiskeys, which I’d never done before. I’ve tried a few bourbons and ryes so far, and I’m excited to try scotch and Irish in the near future. Specifically, I think I’m most excited to try Laphroaig. I like strong coffee and spicy food with strong flavors and whatnot, so I want to find out if I’m in the 2/10. Now I promise this rambling eventually gets tied together into a coherent thought here at the end. This past weekend, my dad hosted a get-together at his house, and I happened to notice the bottle of _LAPHROAIG 15_ sitting on my dad’s fridge like it had for years. I took it down and I swear, I looked at that bottle like I was seeing it for the first time! I know it’s not like it’s expensive or rare, but it felt really cool to find out that the bottle my dad had bought for me almost a decade ago was the same bottle I’ve been wanting to try since I first heard you mention it! We decided we’ll open it when we get together for Christmas next month.
Really glad to hear you used a stunt whiskey. The blending didn't bother me, as we all learned in your sommelier training that blending great whiskeys usually ends up tasting great, a la "Blendaggedon." But the ice and Diet Coke was painful to watch. But Rex, you played the dark Mooch role to perfection. Well done, gents.
I know what you mean about the paper mill smell. I grew up in Tacoma, WA which was partially known for the "aroma of Tacoma" from the paper plant. Not a great scent.
I was curious if you guys were going to be doing any particular Whiskey Advent Calendar(from Master's of Malt or such)? It would be awesome to try and get the same calendar as you guys and drink along with you day by day. Love the show!
I liked Rex week, rex was annoying but a funny kind of annoying. Also was fun to see Daniel rek the living shit of of rex moochiness by blending like a god
Rex week was EPIC!!! Thank you, you Magnificent Bastards!! Haven't laughed that hard at work in a long time. For those that didn't get it or were bothered, just sit there cross your arms, given a disapproving look and sip on your glass of Whiskey. Let the rest of us enjoy the show. Well done, well done...
My mum died last Christmas and I had bought the rum cask finish just a few days before. Ended up killing the whole bottle. Its good enough to sip but bad enough to sip a lot. Going to buy it again, I think I enjoyed it even with the bad memories attached.
I must say when I watched the last episode of Rex Week I thought "wow I liked Rex up until this point." Glad to know there was a stunt whisky, cause there was a lot of browney points floating away there for a minute. Have no fear Rex your place in my heart has been restored by the news of a stunt whisky being used. And dang do i wish i had a sip of that blend.
You guys are so positive about everything. I almost want to knowingly send shitty whiskey for you guys to shit on, but I'm a mooch and don't spend money for others.
Question time: How do i best store my Whisky? I have 7 opened bottels on my desk (i dont have any patience when u buy them) but sometimes sunlight comes directly through my window on my desk. Is this bad for the whisky and should i store them in the boxes? Or is it something that doesnt matter? For those who want to know the whisky’s are: Glendalough triple barrel, Fettercairn Fior, Glenlivet master distillers reserve small batch (triple cask), Glenfiddich IPA/Project XX and vintage cask, highland park valkyrie, auchentoshan Virgin Oak. Love the show btw :)
Thank the Whiskey Gods there was a stunt whiskey! I've been having nightmares since seeing that. My gf says I've been twitching in my sleep and repeating "diet Coke, ice, diieeet Cooookkeee, iiiccceeee."
Yeah, in hindsight, Daniel definitely put up enough of a fight on that. I'm relieved to see it was a stunt whiskey, AND I appreciate that Rex has now twice pulled back the curtain to put our minds at ease. Transparency is nice.
Hey guys I have a question.. I'm still trying to figure out the flavours of each whisky that I own. When I tried a bulleit rye, I think I figured out the flavour of rye. (Because you guys said that's a typical rye) But now when I taste Buffalo Trace or Elijah Craig I really get that same flavour jumping at me, (is that normal? Or is it just me?) After a few sips I slowly get more flavours like coffe any toffee and a little bit nutty taste. Thank you guys for helping me understand the water of life!!! Cheers from the Netherlands Btw; I miss the Saturdayish review on whiskey biscuits!!!!
"Paper Mill!!" Lol, say no more...my parents lived for a while in Lewiston Idaho...it has a paper mill...that paper mill is called Potlatch, and it stunk to high heaven. You may or may not have smelt just that one. Anyway, enjoying the channel, it helps before purchasing as a sort of pre-introduction. I will be enjoying some Powers, Teeling and Glenfarclas next. Have, and if so, how did you experience BenRiach. It seems to be a more reasonably priced Scotch (at least here in Austria) especially the longer aged ones + non chill and natural color. Cheers!
Gentlemen! Would you please try Bunnahabhain Mòine? It has become my go-to poor man's version of Lagavulin, but I really want to know if there's actually any resemblance between the two for someone other than myself. Also.... anyone got some tips regarding cheaper Lagavulin-isch whiskeys?
I have noted that you like Bruichladdich black art 4.1. 😉 And there is a saying that I would like to share with you: “The Bruichladdich Black art 4.1 is a good friend, but Bruichladdich 1990/25 sherry cask is your best friend” Adam Hannett the new head distiller for Bruichladdich has done a fantastic job making this whisky. I hope you will try it one day.
That stunt whiskey actually inspired me to pour a coke into my glass of lagavulin 16... Which actually turned out quite enjoyable, i lost the band-aid/iodine notes and got left with smoke & coke + a hint of bacon.
I personally like Grangestone Scotch. Yeah they're not special or anything, but if you want a drink after work & don't want to go into your nice selection, their great daily sippers. The Sherry Cask is my least favorite, which is unfortunate because I love sherry whiskey. It's very sharp, burny, & harsh palate. THe Rum Cask featured here is my favorite thus far. Still waiting to open the Maderia & Congac Casks & see how I like those.
About not being willing to blend that crazy whisky last week. My wife likes to say that things that are crafted are meant to be enjoyed. Discussion came up while talking about going to Phoenix Knife House because I wanted a sashimi knife. She talked about she'd never want some crazy $500 hand forged one of a kind of knife because she'd be afraid to use it (for the record, I didn't get one of those because it would not be in the budget). But that the masters craftsman that spent a lifetime learning his trade made that knife to be used. She said it would be sad to have something so special never be used for its intended purpose. Of course she also looked at buying a vintage Bianchi road bike and displaying it :p I guess that is the same for ultra old whiskies that are less drinks and are now a piece of history. People have these bottles that are so old and rare that consuming them would be consuming a piece of history. But the master distiller and the company made that bottle to be enjoyed. It would be sad to be forced to not enjoy something like that. So she'd probably say have the guts to try something crazy if you would enjoy it. And don't purchase something you aren't willing to enjoy. I have no problem spending $60-100 on a bottle of whisky because I wouldn't feel bad drinking it. But I'd hate to have some bottle that was so expensive or so rare that I'd feel guilty pouring. Same with blending if I had Daniel's talent for it. Or the Dark Mooch's talent (minus the Diet Coke and ice!).
I think I agree with your wife. which is why I have a rule to always open a whisky as soon as we get it regardless of how expensive. Drink it, don't horde it.
Usually whenever I buy anything for the first time it gets opened and tasted before it gets put on the shelf. Now usually trips to Total Wine are when we are running other errands so it may be earlier in the day. So it is a pour so small that Rex would roll his eyes. But yeah. Whisky, food, coffee, whatever are things are enjoyed by consuming them. If I want decorations, I'll buy decorations. The only sad thing is when a particularly great bottle gets low and it was expensive enough that it may not get replaced. Sometimes those last couple of pours take a while to talk myself in to. But in the end, it's better to enjoy it rather than wait a few months and realize that the taste has changed because I left a nearly empty bottle for a while.
I have a question. Today a visited my local liquor store to buy some whiskey. The lady there was nice but she had no idea what she was talking about. I looked at the Tullamore DEW in the porcelain Jug. And the lady said that its a great deal because the whiskey continues to "age" in porcelain unlike in glass. ?? I never heard of it. Is it true to some degree, or is she just trying to hard? I ended up with Teeling Small Batch. Cheers from Slovakia - Na zdravie
I've bought and tried somewhat less than 200 bottles of the various products (my qualifications to give a recommendation) and I've had this hobby for a couple of years now: If you're a beginner, for a Scotch, buy a bottle of "The Glenlivet 12 year old" (750 ml bottle in the US, 700 ml bottle in the UK, or Europe), and for a Bourbon, buy Elijah Craig Small Batch. Other good Scotch to try when you're getting a start: The Balvenie DoubleWood, Dalwhinnie 15 year old, Old Pulteney 12 year old, and Highland Park 12 year old. My favorite Scotch out of everything I've tried is: The Glenlivet 18 year old (about $114 here in New England). My favorite Bourbons are: Four Roses Single Barrel, and Blantons. On another channel one reviewer admitted to being a "Laphroig Ho", so I have committed to admitting the truth also. I label myself a "Highland Park Ho" (I'm a guy). Cheers!
I asked my dad to grab me Knob Creek Single Barrel (can't do it myself). Later when he told me it was $140 so I could pay him back I damn near shit a brick. I don't mind paying good money for a whiskey that's worth it but I thought Knob Creek Single Barrel was stretching it. When I went to pick it up and saw it, it turned out to be the 25th Anniversary edition! My question is this, can I (as a beginner) enjoy the whiskey enough to justify the price? It's cask strength and I'm not sure if my palate is tuned-in enough to enjoy it. Thanks
I wouldn't worry too much about it being "too advanced". Whisk(e)y is meant to be enjoyed, and the only way you are going to learn to appreciate things more, is by trying them. Take the time to savour this one! Each time you go back to it, you will get a little more from it. This won't be a bottle that you pull out during a Christmas party with friends. This will be something you keep for those special times. I suspect being able to revisit it a few times will be one of the joys of "learning" :-) Single barrel offerings are typically going to be more expensive. Depending on the barrel and the bottle size, one barrel is going to net around 250 bottles. That's it. Enjoy!
You're welcome. Because this is also cask strength, don't be afraid to try adding water. Play with it a bit! One of the benefits of cask strength is that by figuring out how strong you like it, you can actually extend the bottle by 25-35%, or more. As you see Daniel and Rex do...start with a small pour, maybe 1/4 to 1/2 an ounce; then use a straw or eyedropper to add a few drops at a time. Sample it neat and then again after each addition of water. This will help you dial in where your preference is. One time you might try adding an ice cube to see how that changes things. But again, until really know how you like it, stick to the smaller pours. :-) Check to see if the guys have any reviews that include Knob Creek. Because yours is a single cask, chances are it will be slightly different, but most distilleries have a baseline profile that most of their products align to. Try a drink while watching the review and see if you the nosing and tasting notes resonate for you. They may help you articulate what you're experiencing.
Oh definitely. I tried adding a little water to a glass of my last bottle, which was Aberfeldy 12, and it absolutely killed it. I think a 12 year cask strength bourbon is easily strong enough to take some water, though
Absolutely you can, and you have a unique opportunity to truly explore! Buy a regular bottle of Knob Creek ( should be under $35) and pour both. Nose both, Sip Both, Add water to both.... because of the cost most of us will not have many chances to explore specialty bottling in those price ranges, you have a rare opportunity thanks to your dear dad!
Love the show and loved rexweek, recently found a score of old scotch 50's and 60's have been buying some of it as the store owner puts it out. Anything I should be looking for?
Guys what are your thoughts on Puni distillery and in particular their Puni Nero Italian Whisky? Is it even possible to get your hands on one bottle in Texas? P.s. love the videos, keep 'em coming 👍
I have a Grangestone 21. The purpose of it , is to offer it to a family member I despite in case he sees my collection and asks for a dram of whiskey and I feel I don't want to share my Macallan No.2....this is what I offer to the occasional newbie "whisky" drinker. That's the purpose of Grangestone.
I got a mooch story that I'm kinda not proud of. There's a cigar lounge in my town (Cheroot, to be exact), and they not only have amazing cigars, but also an extensive alcohol collection, including many of my favourite whiskeys like Ardbeg 10 and Johnnie Walker Select Rye Casks. Usually when I go there, however I order a gin & tonic and a glass of Redbreast 12 neat. Well, one time when I went there there was a new bartender. Normally I just say "Hey, Redbreast?!" and the bar knows what I'm talking about. However when I told this bartender this I saw her pour some Redbreast 21 instead. At first I was shocked and didn't say anything, but I did drink it figuring I'd get some kind of discount for "finding out" she poured the wrong Redbreast. Then I got my tab and saw she marked it down as an order of Redbreast 12, only costing me $10 (when the 21yr is $45 a pour). I still didn't say anything, but did leave a $20 tip just for posturing. I'm keeping a low profile and not going there for a while, cos I know the regulars that I'm friends with there would give me shit and not share there drinks with me. Lmao
I’m surprised that Rex didn’t recognize a kindred spirit in Bill. Bringing the same bottle of Old Crow every time, he was obviously a Master Mooch. And like the Sith from Star Wars, there are always two: one master and one apprentice. Is Rex the new Darth Mooch?
Unfortunately in the 15 websites i've tried to get it from, I always get somekind of message like : ''Due to the diligent efforts of certain customs officials, we regret to inform you we cannot ship to the country you’ve selected. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.'' (picked from Master of Malt itself...) I guess I'll just have to go so the USA to have some
Aaron power yeah i think so cause LCBO ( Ontario alcohol govermental stuff ) sells it but i went to two LCBOs in Ottawa that did not have it. One thing is for sure, after what i heard about it on this channel, I just might need to sell my car to buy a bunch when I find it one day.
Hey guys, I've been enjoying scotch for the past 6-7 years and I have friends who have been trying to get me into the more peaty whisky..I'm having a hard time acquiring the taste, so can you recommend something to edge me into this world of peat?
Hey, so I've discovered you +/- a week ago and I've never drunk whisky before (which didn't stop me from watching at least ~40 videos of yours. I'm more of the "vanilla latte" kind of guy and after studying your uploads I tried to make myself a short list of things to try: Monkey Shoulder, Glenfiddich 12, Angel's Envy (+ Green Spot, Nikka Miyagikyo if I get a chance). Does it look fine or some of them might be too harsh? Love ya
Big Moe Facca, Daniel didn't know the storyline until it's was time to shoot the final episode. When he found out I had Chad alter the edit so I could mooch rexmonth, I told him not to worry about it - just do your thing.
This channel is causing me a lot of pain. You've turned me on to whisky but now I notice that I have to be careful when drinking with friends. Just this weekend I introduced Johnnie Walker Double Black to a couple long time friends of mine. One said it should go in a cocktail, the other said it'd be great as a shot. #ChadWeek.
When there’s a picture of a man with a beard on the window. Could it be Daniel so that he is always watching the whiskey vault and looking down on the people who splurge a little too much, and they look up and see his Daniels just judging them haha
I would like to kind of apologize to Rex for my douche ness. Now that I have that out of the way. I think the last day of Rex week was really f*cking (add cork sound here) hilarious. I really enjoyed it because it must have took a lot of work to make such an elaborate episode. And thank you chad for making Rex week happen because it made me appreciate the normal episodes more.
After the rouse that was shooting a glass off of daniel's head, I was expecting (and deep down inside hoping) that it was a stunt whisky. As much as this comment section is cool, I'm sure it would have been funny watching some people go bananas by letting them believe it
As meh as the Grangestone may be, the Sherry cask finish version of their “highland” dragged me curiously into the Highland Park Magnus because of the sherry cask. Here I am now drinking peatier and smoky highland’s and venturing into Islay scotch; it may not be exceptional, but Grangestone is a hell of a gateway scotch!
I had the bourbon cask version this weekend and it tasted sweet like hard candy. I did not enjoy it. It was way overpowering on the sip. And the taste didn’t reflect the nose.
Creative ideas that help answer the question Rex accidentally raised... What Next? I used to go skydiving. I logged a lot of jumps. That's in the past, and now I miss it. Later my buddies and with our teenage kids we all took up paintball (Woodsball, team paintball in the woods, you hunt humans and they hunt you, no one gets hurt). That's adrenaline addiction... kids grew up and headed out and us remaining dads don't play any more. Where's the adrenaline replacement? Nada, zip, zero... (That's Rex's problem... he needs something new.) In your case here's what you need to do: Take some of my suggestions seriously. Put Rex's Wife on the show in place of Rex. (It's Hollywood made in Texas, remember? It's a show.) You can blame the results on me. Daniel is a natural teacher. He'll introduce #RexWife to Whisky. It will be interesting. You can wrap whatever story you want around this... perhaps Evil Rex is chained on the roof, or in some basement. Maybe he's confined to home, with a tracker on his ankle. He could escape at times, then the police would have to track him down and drag him away. So, think back to the show "Dallas." Think back to J.R. Ewing. At the end of a season, the evil J.R. having been caught doing something despicable, there's a crescendo, but as the next season starts, somehow J.R. is still in the show, seeming to behave himself somewhat, and with time, something else is brewing. What you guys have is "Dallas in Austin." That was just Season One, dudes! And think a little bit. J.R. doesn't go directly back into a repeat of the end of last season, it's always something new. You have to build up to it. That show wasn't repetition. With good writing you carry your audience along with you. Now with all that in mind, Rex, you need to Walk The Plank! Put Rex's Wife on the Show. Replace Rex with Rex Wife. Rex can escape captivity and re-enter the show later. First we need to see Daniel teaching Rex's Wife about whisky. Do I have to spell everything out for you (that would make me the writer)... you could use an actress in place of Rex's Wife if you have to... Cheers! #RexOnPlank #WalkThePlankRex #ReplaceRexWithRexWife
Hey Rex & Daniel, a while back I saw these things called Whiskey Sticks: www.timeandoak.com/products/signature-whiskey-elements I’d like to get your opinion on them. P.s. since finding you guys I’ve gone back and watched every video, and will be buying myself some bruicladeigh and lagavoulin to try very soon. (I’m sure I misspelled those)
Short version on them. It does make it taste more woody, and gives the alcohol color. But you can't leave it in long enough to start truly getting the third chemical reactions that create subtlety and nuance.
I am so glad that was a stunt whiskey. The swearing that was directed at the screen when it was being desecrated was only suitable for navel ships after being out for way too long. Well done Darth Mooch. I only wish the gold star blend was available for tasting. Lets see.. $7000 blend should only be a few hundred dollars an ounce. Doable for a once in a lifetime. Cheers to Bill and to you both.
Wait, there was NO green screen in that? Not even the Somm Bear vision? How the hell would you even do that, then? I came to this channel because of whiskey, and I love the just regular old episodes, but I appreciate the occasional weird shit because this is a really diverse tribe and not everything has to be about me. I am dead serious that you guys should do poor man's blends of expensive whiskies every once in a while if for no other reason than it gives accessible reference points. If you don't know what a day-old wet campfire smells like, or Daniel's talking about biscuits when he means cookies, but you have had a few of the basic whiskies in the poor man's blend, you can still get an idea.
The Old Crow toast was damn nice of you guys. You two are top shelf. Thank you.
cheers to you, friend. Glad you're here.
Did a little research on Old Crow. It cost about 10 bucks at my local store. Was surprised to find out at one time is was one of the 3-5 best selling whiskies in America. It wasn't half bad.
Dude, without missing a beat Daniel reaches for the Old Crow. I like you guys. And cheers to Bill.
Dustin Sandage that was absolutely legit...
Really thoughtful and nice. I truly appreciate it. On a side note, Old Crow really isn't bad. Did some research on it, at one time it was one of the top selling whiskies in America
Totally.
The bourbon cask grange has notes of cantaloupe, butter and sharp cheddar cheese IMO. ITS FANTASTIC
it was excellent the whole week.daniel and rex both went above and beyond.thank you.

Toasts/ moments and wholesome reviews like that are why I keep watching this channel. Damn fine entertainers and damn fine gentlemen.
A beautiful gesture to take a sip for the old mooch, may we all be a graceful in our moochiness for as long as he was

I really enjoyed the fight sequence. Rex got to show off his tube sock swinging prowess.
especially the "bean bag" special move

Yep! I'm going to do the basic whisky advent from master of malt. The cheapest one. We'll post the shows each day!
Lol the damage control segment of this episode was hilarious !
I liked Rex week, rex was annoying but a funny kind of annoying. Also was fun to see Daniel rek the living shit of of rex moochiness by blending like a god

That smell near Corvallis is the paper plant in Albany.
I thought it was probably a stunt whiskey, but it is relief to have that confirmed.

Corvallis Oregon!?! I grew up there. Totally know that paper mill!
Can you guys do a review on the Macallan rare cask? Please this would be much appreciated.
Great video guys! It was damn fine of you to read that story and raise that glass of Old Crow. Slainté!
You guys should do a review of Teelings small batch, it's a rum finish and mighty tasty.
Bear piss filtered through a old nylon tent with a hiking boot finish and some burnt oatmeal cookies notes. Lovely.
Rex week was awesome, looking forward to Rex week 2018!
Glad to be back to normal...
I have noted that you like Bruichladdich black art 4.1. 😉 And there is a saying that I would like to share with you:

The Sherry Cask is my least favorite, which is unfortunate because I love sherry whiskey. It's very sharp, burny, & harsh palate.
THe Rum Cask featured here is my favorite thus far. Still waiting to open the Maderia & Congac Casks & see how I like those.
I am so HAPPY there was really a stunt whiskey - THANK YOU!!!
All I want for Christmas is another #RexWeek
Well, Rex week was fun, but now we are back to the serious reviews... :) And another line we sell a lot of. None are open at the moment :(
Tuning in from Chicago. My nephew turns 21 this Thursday. So i shall be getting a bottle of Four Roses for us.
Of course she also looked at buying a vintage Bianchi road bike and displaying it :p
I guess that is the same for ultra old whiskies that are less drinks and are now a piece of history.
Anyone headed to Whiskyfest in NYC this week?
Since it's a rum finished whisky, could you compare it to the balvenie caribbean cask?
not near as nuanced.
Cheers from Slovakia - Na zdravie
hahahahahahahahaha. Oh man, she was so full of shit.
Thank God. For a split second i was like. Hmmm its maybe me? :-D
But that Small Batch Teeling is great
I've bought and tried somewhat less than 200 bottles of the various products (my qualifications to give a recommendation) and I've had this hobby for a couple of years now: If you're a beginner, for a Scotch, buy a bottle of "The Glenlivet 12 year old" (750 ml bottle in the US, 700 ml bottle in the UK, or Europe), and for a Bourbon, buy Elijah Craig Small Batch.
Cheers!
on behalf of that magnificent blendagenom, make vid of your favourite blended malts. I only know Smokey Joe and it is damn fine whisky.
I suspect being able to revisit it a few times will be one of the joys of "learning" :-)
Single barrel offerings are typically going to be more expensive. Depending on the barrel and the bottle size, one barrel is going to net around 250 bottles. That's it.
Enjoy!
Thanks for the tip, Canadian Whisky Smith
Check to see if the guys have any reviews that include Knob Creek.
Have you ever tried the Slane Irish whiskey? I thought it was good, but my family doesn't care for it. Is it good or is it just me?
When was the last time they actually talked about they whisky they were drinking like this? Feels like forever ago lol
The toast to the neighbor really showed how amazing of a channel you guys really have. Keep it up.
P.S. Daniel is a hottie.
That was really nice. These guys are great.
Nice profile pic
Hey Daniel, any chance of offshoot posts doing a Whisky Advent Calendar this year? Since you brought up your first videos at a desk by yourself.
I'll be doing the whisky advent daily again this year. I'm doing the cheapest general whisky one. Should be fun!
I'm so glad you had the stunt whisky
me too
Guys what are your thoughts on Puni distillery and in particular their Puni Nero Italian Whisky? Is it even possible to get your hands on one bottle in Texas?
P.s. love the videos, keep 'em coming 👍
I have a Grangestone 21. The purpose of it , is to offer it to a family member I despite in case he sees my collection and asks for a dram of whiskey and I feel I don't want to share my Macallan No.2....this is what I offer to the occasional newbie "whisky" drinker. That's the purpose of Grangestone.
that is brilliant.
Lmao
@6:05- 6:07 I sound exactly like that after 5 whiskies!
Love the videos keep them up big fan!
Can u review highland park 30 if possible
I’m surprised that Rex didn’t recognize a kindred spirit in Bill.
Bringing the same bottle of Old Crow every time, he was obviously a Master Mooch.
And like the Sith from Star Wars, there are always two: one master and one apprentice.
Is Rex the new Darth Mooch?
A moment of silence for us people in Quebec, Canada that can't (by anyway possible) get monkey shoulder... Any suggestions to get some ?
Master of malt?
Unfortunately in the 15 websites i've tried to get it from, I always get somekind of message like : ''Due to the diligent efforts of certain customs officials, we regret to inform you we cannot ship to the country you’ve selected. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.'' (picked from Master of Malt itself...) I guess I'll just have to go so the USA to have some
Thomas Lacasse can you go to a different province to get it ?
Aaron power yeah i think so cause LCBO ( Ontario alcohol govermental stuff ) sells it but i went to two LCBOs in Ottawa that did not have it. One thing is for sure, after what i heard about it on this channel, I just might need to sell my car to buy a bunch when I find it one day.
What happened to the new installment of Whiskey Biscuits?
Too tired from Friday's episode
Hey guys, I've been enjoying scotch for the past 6-7 years and I have friends who have been trying to get me into the more peaty whisky..I'm having a hard time acquiring the taste, so can you recommend something to edge me into this world of peat?
Maybe lightly peated? Like Bunnahabhain 12, Oban 14yr, etc.
If it sucks, can i have a bottle of my choice off the wall? :)
Thanks for the suggestion!
hahahahaa. nice mooching attempt
dammit Rex...
Oh wait, probably daniel? dan? i'll call you whatever you want me to for a visit to the vault
Love ya
good list!
Thank you good Sirs! I did my best! Gonna give you some thoughts on my little degustation as soon as I get my hands on the whiskies!
Maybe get yourself a little sample of sth. smokey so you don't miss out on that
Hmm, that's definitely a thing to consider. Any suggestions of some slightly smokey whisky?
Oh, actually nevermid. I did some digging and found out that Daniel and Rex recommend Highland Park 12 the most of the slightly smokey type.
Loved Rex week it should be once a month haha
Each of you:
Best whiskey on the rocks?
Best whiskey to cook with, plus any recipes you know?
I participated too much whiskey tasting this weekend
Quick question about #rexweek... Daniel’s alchemy in creating the “poor man’s versions”, truth or smoke and mirrors for the Rex week story line?
Big Moe Facca, Daniel didn't know the storyline until it's was time to shoot the final episode. When he found out I had Chad alter the edit so I could mooch rexmonth, I told him not to worry about it - just do your thing.
Rex, the week was epic. Looking forward to the next one. Give it a year... to keep it special.
A toast to the Master Mouch who passed away .. a Toast to Bill .... Sir thank you for your mouching.....
That awkward moment when they cut off Daniels moment of him talking about wood notes a little too fast haha
did tommy get any?
After the rouse that was shooting a glass off of daniel's head, I was expecting (and deep down inside hoping) that it was a stunt whisky. As much as this comment section is cool, I'm sure it would have been funny watching some people go bananas by letting them believe it
You should review the whiskies you dislike the most.
OR
You should review whiskies from various movies.
Just for fun.
I still believe that Rex month was just a ploy to make Daniel look even more of a rockstar som by blending budgets into rares.
Grangestone comes from Quality Spirits International.
Drink Willett Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Albany paper mill - that is a harsh reference!
#rexweek was awesome, it should occur couple times during the year..
Lets not go crazy here.. once a year is fine. Think of it like Christmas.
Sean Crager i was thinking it should be more like solstices and equinoxes...
Yeah I’m tasting it now. It’s not bad. I prefer monkey shoulder though. And for the price, monkey shoulder wins too
Rex week was fucking awesome
Chad is awesome, he’s the glue to the whole operation, how about a Chad Day?
Creative ideas that help answer the question Rex accidentally raised... What Next?
I used to go skydiving. I logged a lot of jumps. That's in the past, and now I miss it. Later my buddies and with our teenage kids we all took up paintball (Woodsball, team paintball in the woods, you hunt humans and they hunt you, no one gets hurt). That's adrenaline addiction... kids grew up and headed out and us remaining dads don't play any more. Where's the adrenaline replacement? Nada, zip, zero... (That's Rex's problem... he needs something new.)
In your case here's what you need to do: Take some of my suggestions seriously. Put Rex's Wife on the show in place of Rex. (It's Hollywood made in Texas, remember? It's a show.)
You can blame the results on me.
Cheers!

Yooo from paris again!
Hi from Savannah Ga.
Hi back, from Austin, TX
Hey Rex & Daniel, a while back I saw these things called Whiskey Sticks: www.timeandoak.com/products/signature-whiskey-elements
I’d like to get your opinion on them.
P.s. since finding you guys I’ve gone back and watched every video, and will be buying myself some bruicladeigh and lagavoulin to try very soon. (I’m sure I misspelled those)
Short version on them. It does make it taste more woody, and gives the alcohol color. But you can't leave it in long enough to start truly getting the third chemical reactions that create subtlety and nuance.
Oh, I thought you colour graded it so it was more dark and dramatic.
Let's go with that one.
GO BEAVS! Dude! I was born in Corvallis!
And yeah, that paper mill in Albany stinks lol
Wait, you just compared a whiskey you don't like to Corvallis... I'll just pretend you said it reminds you of Albany.
BTW, what were you doing in Corvallis?
On of my old friends I was in a band with was from Corvalis, Jake Carey.
Dude, rock on :)
Grangestone for use at 2 am when taste is irrelevant. I like it.
thank you for the clarification I can finally sleep in peace
Sweetest whisky you taste??
You know, guys, in a way, we're sort of like a Poor Man's Sommelier. The combined wisdom of chat coalesces into some that tastes vaguely like Daniel.
I thought youlegit put ice and diet coke in that glass...
Bottom Shelf Matters Week! :) And Triple A - Ancient Ancient Age!
It was #rexmonth because that was what it felt like for Daniel
This will definitely become a regular thing.
masking and layers. simple if the camera doesn't move.
I could have sworn it was a green screen because the vault looked kinda flat in those shots. Or I could be just making shit up. Probably B.
Peter Schumacher, different cam settings for a relatively dark room. (Shot at night)
Please Longrow 18 review!!!!! Help people, mooches, vikings, distilers, soms, help, like this, support me! I need that review from Daniel.... and Rex!
I TOLD YALL
