- A playthrough of Episode 2, Mission 6 of Ultimate Doom (Halls of the Damned) on the Ultra-Violence difficulty for the PC. This is played through ZDoom. 100% kills, 100% items, and 100% secrets.
Man, I gotta say, listening to your radio-personality-esque voice and demeanor is a joy within itself.
Catch 22 exactly my opinion!
This was probably the scariest level to me growing up lol. That music combined with that huge dark room and that maze of traps, man...
I remember as a kid I had to work very hard to beat this map over and over again. It was scary, lol.
@@BigMacDavis exact same
@@BigMacDavis REMEMBER me!! anyways I know an easier way to kill the cacodemon and pinky demon. Let them infight then start chainsawing the caco first then the pinky
@FBIimprov I’m still scared by this level tbh
Just played through this on GZDoom with Doom sector light setting and enhanced brightmaps pack and I tell you, that dark area is still scary af without the goggles and only the demons eyes, the decorative lights and gun fire glare guiding you.
i don't know what it is about this guy's voice but watching him play these maps is so strangely satisfying.
I know right
After reading Masters of Doom, I wanted to play the other Doom episodes I never paid for as a kid. Found you while looking for the secret exit in e2m5. Your voice and delivery is so good, man. Really solid videos.
Masters of Doom is great, it was fascinating especially reading about John Carmack's innovations that pushed existing PC technology into new territories that had never been explored.
I always panic in that false exit lift and shoot a rocket too early as its going down and blow my face off.
Same boi
I know all cheat codes ask me what u want and what u play on
I've just got the game today, and done the first two episodes. I clear out a map as much as I can guess to, and then come here to see what I missed. Glad I skipped the fake exit. I remember seeing the other one and thought "Maybe that one way back there gives me something cooler." Love your videos, man!
Awesome! :D
Usually I hate commentary in walkthroughs, but this video finds a way to change my mind lol
Haha, nice.
3:33 This is indeed a nasty trap. They put the crusher immediately behind you for a reason: if you back up instinctively when the enemies are released you get crushed.
Happened to me
this walkthrough was 120% cooler.
Always love your walk-throughs! Such personality as well as informative. Thanks BigMac.😏
Awesome work, dude! I'm doing a documentary about DOOM and you are the first, in a long research, that don't get out playing like crazy, without actually look to the architecture and admire this beautiful, history changer game! (by the way, I'm stealing your well paced and steady images, sorry!) :D
Damn I hats this map!! ARGH! Took me 3 times to figure it out...turned it off...calmed down and finally today started it again and finally finished it at 23:28 and almost got it 100% with the exception of -4% items. My internet was down today for a free hours so I couldn't come to your channel for help so I did it on my own finally figured it out. lol Yes We are all pretty spoiled coming to your great channel. A+++
4:42 "Hey, who invited you? Noone, that's why you're dead" BLAM! BigMacDavis's DOOM walkthroughs are the best and funny...but NOT politically correct!
Strange, I've played through Ultimate Doom about 10 times and I can't remember this level at all for some strange reason.
Decaying Reverie That's because this level is so horrible, it erases itself from players' memories.
I sure as hell remember it
Baroness Bloodrayne This is literally my favourite level of Doom.
Jellyman1303 same, idk but I like it so much,
You probably rushed through everything
I died at the crushing wall, i feel like never playing doom again now
LMAOO same here!! I had all the keys, but I was a little lost, then I got crushed...
@@jankarl5269 save game:
I love the fact that the fear we have on Doom is not being attacked by a demon. Is losing ang going back to the beggining of the level
The music for this level would be perfect for an X-Files or Unsolved Mysteries episode.
I love how you found out that the unknown switch was supposed to trigger a trapdoor. Also LOL at the comments on Lost Souls, especially, "Oh, that's nice. The Lost Soul killed a Demon for me." and "Who invited you? No one, that's who. That's why you're dead, stupid Lost Soul!" :D
7:40 is it possible that the barons only appear at ultra violence? becuase I play in hurt me plenty and they weren't there
+IVAN3DX Yea, if you didn't know, Ultra violence and higher add many more enemies.
7:05 for me the pinky’s clipped into each other somehow and blocked the barons from leaving the trap
this level scared the shit outta me with the spooky dark mazes
I love that false exit in this level. Fucking GENIUS! ;D
I don’t
@@mango4633 what ?
^ He doesn't like it
I don t like to
OHHHH THATS WHY MY EXIT FELL DOWN I WAS SO CONFUSED
very nice music on this map
That brown area, that part with the crushing wall and the falsch yellow exit door are the most scariest part of thise whole level.
Hey man thanks for the walk through. You had clear instructions and easy to understand. Keep up the good work!!!
Excellent video, excellent, excellent, excellent. Keep it up man.
Much appreciated! Glad you enjoyed it! :D
3:25 nastiest trap ever. Initially I would backtrack the time I saw things opening, but now the door is stuck and the crusher already pinned me to death till I realize.
Very well done, like always! I like your walk throughs and your voice! Very much!
God i for sure won't repeat this level in a while
Hey man thanks for your walkthroughs. I'm basically reliving my childhood with a Bob Ross to guide me LMFAO 😂😂
Didn't realize that I skipped over the yellow key until watching this lol. Thanks for the guide too.
No problem! Glad it helped. :)
I played through Ultimate Doom a few years ago for the first time on the "I'm Too Young to Die" mode. Since I had never played through a first-person shooter before, it was tough even for the easiest mode. Now,, years later, I have been playing through the game, but have jumped straight to the Ultra-violence mode. I have just recently cleared E2M6 but in a freaky way. After going through the maze the includes the yellow key, I entered the "brown area" as you call it with light amplification and took out all the demons. Shortly thereafter, the light amplification ran out and as it turns out, one of the two barons of hell from the hallway made its way into the now-dark brown room and I didnt pick up on it until it was right near me. In panic mode, I just fired as much plasma as possible to kill it (but after a lot of health loss). Then I trigger the trap that you triggered at 9:47 and then a moment later, encountered the enemies shown at 9:52. When I heard the baron of hell alert, that's when I "you-know-what" myself. In shear desperation, I fled to the hallway and fired rockets at the baron when it made it's way out. I almost died to it but luckily, there were several medikits in the yellow-key area I could heal up on (which I skipped earlier since I had over 100% health then). I then saw the last of the hallway barons in the hallway but since I had the rockets and was at a good distance, it wasn't much of an issue. Also, the rest of the "brown area", while tough, was manageable.
So I got through E2M6 on UV but in a freaky way since, in the dark room, I encountered a baron that's not supposed to be there.
Who knew this would be so useful 10 years later?
"We'll skip this brown area for right now" as he moves to the white area. Racist.
Doom Guy yeh ok
Starscream91 that was a joke plz don’t start some cry baby comment
Yeh ok
Pfffffft
Yeet
3:13 - 4:18 and 5:00 - 7:10.
Those parts have been taken out of the PS1 version.
Since the re-release of the DooM collection on Steam & console last week, I find myself playing through trying to remember where all the secrets are and stuff, because it’s been so long since I played the games.
This is were BMD’s videos, from over a decade ago come in handy 😊
You should do an updated play through of all DooM experience again now that it’s had a revamp
I love, how you always try to find other expressions for "never a good thing" in this video. ^^
Actually from what I learned, the shotgun does make quick work of the Lost Souls, so keep that in mind, folks
I enjoy using the chainsaw on them, especially in E2M5
He's right because one of the LAG can be found in Unholy Cathedral in a secret area but I don't why it has one there though.
Are there any dark areas in that level?
I love the design of this particular map
never played doom 1 , doing the classic maps on doom 2016 , these videos helping massively!!!
Holy shit! I know this level. I bought a copy of doom on xbox360 several years ago, and went into the deathmatch and just let it run. Nobody was there to get a match with. It was not popular by this point... obviously. I just let it sit and after like 10 minutes some dude appeared and I did a 1 on 1 in this level. We both had a headset and talked a little. It was a weird and novel thing that happened. We barely even saw each other though in the level. A couple of frags and we parted. That was the last pvp doom game I ever played.
Man this really helps for knowing where to go because I couldn’t find the red scull
it's Skull
10:06 Bigmacdavis makes a pun. “Son of a gun!”
While using the plasma gun
it's so satisfying to just watch BMD run through these games while destroying absolutely everything without breaking a sweat
Thank You. I could never figure out what that switch does but now I know.
I love this map because if the music. Sinister is my favorite song from Ultimate Doom.
I played brutal yesterday and again find your channel.
You're pretty good showman! Thumb up.
Love the 20% cooler reference lmao
I'll buy you the new DOOM if you make videos for it XD
Nice walkthrough for the beginners who want try DOOM in UV! :)
hi BigMacDavis you are the best of playing of Doom
Hey BigMacDavis, what is your stance on save scumming, do you think it's cheating to save every few seconds or so to avoid losing progress?
I think it has something to do with OCD
"Son of a gun"
-BigMacDavis
I got different results at the end here. The Switch didn’t finish the level, and instead activated a trap in a room where I found a map.I cannot reach the lever anymore.
That's... that's a fake switch. There's two switches in the stage, and one of them is fake.
-Unless you already figured that out; in that case, nevermind my reply.-
I LOVE your narrative style it's wickedly dry!
I died when the crushing ceiling came down. I kept pausing the video to keep up and when the trap opened I went backwards :( Bollocks now I have to start over with a pistol. You should do a playthrough where you start each map vanilla.
Thanks. And you mean each map from a pistol start, right? I may do that, but I'm not entirely sure.
***** Yeah. It's a pain I've done it before on the psx version..
Tower of babel and the last level gave me some MAJOR head-aches though, same with tricks and traps. I HATE that level. HATE ITTTTTT!
Funny, because Tricks and Traps is one of my favorites in Doom II.
***** Oh, no sorry, I was being facetious. I do like the level, I love letting the cyber kill all the barons. It's hard but funny. The only thing that really gets me is the platform that falls and if you miss it you can't finish the bloody level!
Yeah. Well, what's funny is if you're not comfortable crossing the bridge at the end that lowers, you can just walk onto the first section of the bridge and then quickly back up. Then, go into the room with all the Cacodemons and the single Shotgunner, and a teleporter will have opened up. You can take that teleporter and it will take you to the other side of the bridge. :)
5:48-5:49 caught in 4k
Always loved that level as a 9-10 yr old back in the 95' fun to play tough back then
The most weird level of the episode? In the beginning, you are outside the acid pool, you need to click a button to raise something to get the berserker. This will open a path inside a long river of acid YOU have to walk through with some health you lose after you grab anyway (and no radiation suit to even avoid damage), just to press another button that opens the majority of the level in some other corridor. It doesn't even make sense. What a clusterfuck of design that mr. Petersen?
Well no actually there is one Light Amplification Goggle in Unholy Cathedral PSX version in a secret area but I don't why it has one there though.
Are there any dark areas in that level?
Sir. I love the MLP reference at the switch at 1:46
Tthe dark brown area is easy to navigate on the PS1 version because it has blue lighting in the area so you can see much better.
I am planning to learn how to make mods and use Doom 3's I.D. Tech 4 engine as I want to use it remaking this very map E2M6 Halls Of The Damned as I would love to see this map remade in Doom 3's said engine as it would be fun to see what it would like in more modern, realistic by comparison graphics.
when i got the chain saw i grined like a madman and used it the whole level i did die a few times to the floating skull things but that didn't stop me. btw thanks for this video i was stuck trying to find the yellow key
Lol that was real useful thx for this vid 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Easiest way to get through the fake exit is to press the button and immediately run in reverse
You'll be out the door before the platform hits the ground, then you can slowly scrape the enemies off.
Your voice sounds like i'm safe cuz your guiding me so i can escape easily lol
very well played,i'm just gonna tell you in advance, good luck with the Cyberdemon
How come you can't touch the red bricks or red walls, it does some kind of damage to you. Can you explain?
You are my new hero
Interesting. Clearly, BigMacDavis made this video before he coined his famous "that's never a good thing" catchphrase.
No hearing that makes me feel like I've missed something.
All these early videos were filmed with no real catchphrases in mind. They were just little habits I did unknowingly until people started to catch on.
Thank you I was wondering where the 3rd secret was at
your voice is calming
He sounds like Ronald macdonald on drugs
3:05 that's why i love Doom you feel like Boss like God unstopbel force
The Mauro Ranallo of Gaming
BigMac, are you up for this? I have suggested it to AltimaMantoid, but I find it fair to suggest it to you too:
Complete this map with 100% kills and secrets from pistol start without grabbing any piece of light amps. I've completed it for about 11 minutes. (Have no software to record it though.) Are you ready to do it?
The non-euclidian space behind the starting door bothers me.
i went through the entire level and got the yellow and red keys first, but completely missed the blue key
Love this level from 2016
In 10.25, did you shoot that fireball? Or did it hit something…
2:33 Bold of you to assume I have any bullets left 😅
fun fact: loat souls don't count towards your kill count i found this out on the level just before episode 2's secret level but i didn't really know for sure but this level confirmed it also 2 demons tried to escape but i found one just before the blue door to the exit and one at the starting area
You're right, Lost Souls don't count as kills on certain versions, but I was using the ZDoom source port, and that version makes Lost Souls count as kills.
4.35 - i think it is easier to quickly step on the pedestal, shoot the cacodemon and get out of the room. it helps because you dont need to turn around; also you can close the door when reloading. it helped me anyways.
Never thought of that before. Good strat. :)
so, I found the fake exit first, and of course, i thought it was the real one.... however, i didn't use it because there were parts of the map i still hadnt explored. naturally, i was a little perplexed by there being two exits and, thinking they were both legit, thought there may be some special difference between them. So I came here to see what these imagined outcomes might be and decide which to pick and LOL
Oh yeah I never figured out what that switch did either, in fact I always alert the Demons and such when I grab the Blue Key, so yeah it's nice to watch this video again and note that. :)
It's always nice to figure things out.
MountainD18 The vanilla Doom maps have a few scenarios where there's a way to trigger a trap in an easier-to-handle fashion, usually for novice players. This is one of them. On a slightly related note, the blue key in E3M6 actually has a different location based on skill level; it's harder to find on Ultra-Violence.
Joseph Mostarda I never knew that before. Thanks for that.
thank you. couldn't find the red key.
Problem: On the switch version the chainsaw replaces the fist and can never be used again unless you find a berserk pack and even then when you switch weapons the fist disappears again. 😕
Yup, I've been hearing complaints about that. That sucks.
i love your videos and your Voice is like a Lequid Choklate
Thank you I couldn’t find that fucking red key for the life of me
Your voice is fantastic holy fuck
You are my favorite person to watch doom walkthroughs.
Thank you for existing
Succ
wait is that no to the goggles or no to my question?
Shotgun shells are to Doom as Sheep are to "Settlers of Catan".
I couldn't figure out the secret exit. How do you get to it? I just went to the normal exit. A+++ Love your videos as always! : )
I feel like your voice is appropriate for this walkthrough lol
Hey big Mac Davis you should play Brutal Doom! That has a lot more blood
There are a billion playthroughs of it already.
i just play this map for the first time and i already knew what that switch does
Is it just me, or do your fists do more damage than mine?
weirdest stuff just happened to me in this level. The first imp actually went for reinforcements. I saw him but he turned around and was gone. when i entered the bigger room the gate to where the caca demon and the pinkie demon were was wide open. And i got ambushed TWICE!
first with the cacademon in the room that leads to the spiral of other rooms (right before the fake finish) I went right immediately and he wasn't there. While i took time to turn around he started attacking me.
The second time was when i tried to find health before the fake exit trap. Earlier i wondered why i didn't see the second baron (The ones triggered next to the dark area) and figured that my Rocketmageddon took care of him. So i ran through the map in search of health with like 13% and suddenly heard the baron roar right next to me. The last thing i saw was how he and his army of pinkie demons rushed me ...
Smart fish. Those guys are good.
Theres a secret way to avoiding the false exit door.Just go through the area you came from and then you'll be able to avoid the false exit door and the secret traps with the pinkys and the barons of hell
BidMacDavis' walkthrough here is for 100% Monsters, I think. So he has to activate the trap.
