The fighting game and beat em up are both just great. There is also Super Robot Wars and Front Mission series which while not Pan friendly games (reading and tactics don't seem like his bag.) are great for fans of the genre.

Snowboard Kids was a huge part was childhood. My brother, who sadly passed away from Covid loved the first and second game. Snowboard Kids 2 was WAY BETTER than the first. It had a story mode, new characters, bosses, and unlockable boards like the Dragon Board which had a infinite rocket on the board. I miss playing these games, and I miss watching my bro play them too.😊😢

I first played Ocean Hunter in the arcade on a Disney Cruise oddly enough. As a kid fighting creepy sea creatures while being in the middle of said sea was kinda terrifying.
I read the death junior comics when I was in college. The college library had both stories in their graphic novels section. I was hooked. So grim yet full of heart. It's a joy to read and I highly recommend it.
Hey Pan, how about making a review of The Suffering series? It's a third person horror survival/shooter released for the PS2 and Xbox. It's got these cool creepy monsters based off of murderous stuff, like the Slayers who are creatures with blade swords for arms and legs. It's one of my favorite games.
Second this, I love those games (when I saw them released on GOG a couple years back I nabbed them up immediately, especially given my PS2 copy of the sequel doesn't work properly anymore). It was especially interesting to see how the morality system changed the story and such (especially in the sequel where the interactions with the ghosts change dramatically depending on if you're good or evil, even giving the player a unique late game boss based on this). And while the devs may have recycled a bunch of enemies for the sequel I still thought it was creative how they re-contextualized them and redesigned them just enough to fit the new setting (for one the monster you brought up represents death by shiving in the original, while in the sequel it represents violent knife crime in urban environments, and the enemy that represented lethal injection in the first game represents rampant drug addiction in poor areas in the sequel).
I absolutely loved Snowboard Kids 1 & 2 growing up, but what I never realized, years later, was that the company that made Snowboard Kids was Atlus Games (creators of Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series among other standout titles)

I gotta admit, that FF game feels like it has a really weird charm to it. It's got some catchy tunes, a bombastic announcer, Donkey Kong-esque rendered sprites over 3d stages, odd in game moments like the minigame load screens and cars running over the enemies; I actually wanna play it for myself.
You should check out Heavy Metal: Geomatrix. An arcade arena fighter made by Capcom based on Heavy Metal magazine, which features a lot of metal tracks from the likes of megadeth. It was ported to the Dreamcast, tho the arcade version was the only one to support 4 players at the same time.
heres one for you: the munchables for wii. it was made by bandai namco and is something of a spiritual successor to katamari, except instead of picking up objects you play as a little gremlin who hungers for the food shaped enemies. eating enemies levels you up and every couple leves you get larger, letting you eat different enemies and unlock more secrets. some stages are linear platforming ones where in order to get some collectibles you need to make sure you've eaten enough enemies before moving beyond a point of no return, while other levels are like open loops where you have to reach a certain level to finish the stage but going above that will net you more goodies. the plot is simplistic but surprisingly starts to have a few interesting bits near the end of the game, nothing groundbreaking but more enjoyable than you think it will be. the soundtrack is also filled with bangers, in fact if theres one thing you know from the game its the boss theme, panic restaurant. thats not the only good track though, you have tracks like the funky upbeat sizzling paradise, the fun chiptune of chocolate dining, the more surreal jam that is the greenish illusion remix, and my personal favorite the laid back and weird track gobbler a la carte, which perfectly compliments scrolling through the enemy bestiary and reading about what exactly you've been eating. the game holds a special place in my heart because i played it to death when i was really really small, and if you can get past the sort of "kid friendly" goofy aesthetic you have a game with (admittedly simplistic) satisfying gameplay and a great ost to match.

It's legit the Ocriana of Time for PSP and the main char is voiced by John C. McGinley of Scrubs fame! EDIT: also, there was a second game called Root of Evil. i was obsessed with death jr. when i was little. my big cousin had it on his psp and i would try to play but the game was extremely scary to me for some reason. it felt empty and alone and the character designs were so scary. then years later after searching creepy fish game i finally found out the name and now i see its pretty cool ☺
To me, Excite Truck looks like a mashup between the off-roading of 1nsane and the stunt performance of Hot Wheels Stunt Track Driver. AND I LOVE IT. If only there was a GameStop open longer than 12 hours where I can buy it for $0.59 or something.
Death Jr. is very nostalgic to me. The ds game is one of the first games I played on the system, yet I had the volume down because of the eerie music. Tbh, to this day I still keep the volume because of the music.
ExciteBots and ExciteTruck were my absolute JAM. Thanks for the mention. Honestly playing Bots then getting Truck later felt like a downgrade. Bots just feels more kinetic. Plus proper Wii Wheel support.
Death Jr. looks 100% like Pyschonauts. I suppose that art style was very in. They even have a giant meat/entertainment mashup stage! (Although it's a circus and not an amusement park). And Double Fine's (dev of Psychonauts) has a similar logo character to the adjoined twins character in DJ. Curious if similar people worked on both projects. Man the early 00s had some kinda style, idk if it's just a rip of Burton's works or coincidence but I absolutely love it, just finished up a replay of Psychonauts and am so ready for the long awaited sequel coming out later this year.
As a kid, I probably spent hundreds renting, and re-renting, Snowboard Kids and Snowboard Kids 2 for the N64. It's similar mechanics to Diddy Kong Racing or Mario Kart, however I felt it was always a more satisfying experience. The soundtrack was absolutely fantastic, probably the best racing game soundtrack I've ever heard. I would rather play Snowboard Kids than anything on PS4, XBox One, or the Switch.
So glad to see Virtual-On getting the spotlight it deserves! I was also one of those kids that played it all the time in arcades. The original game is available on the Japanese PSN store for PS3 and PS4. Sadly, the latest game in the series (which was a crossover with a light novel series) never got an English translation.

I gotta admit, that FF game feels like it has a really weird charm to it. It's got some catchy tunes, a bombastic announcer, Donkey Kong-esque rendered sprites over 3d stages, odd in game moments like the minigame load screens and cars running over the enemies; I actually wanna play it for myself.
You should check out Heavy Metal: Geomatrix. An arcade arena fighter made by Capcom based on Heavy Metal magazine, which features a lot of metal tracks from the likes of megadeth. It was ported to the Dreamcast, tho the arcade version was the only one to support 4 players at the same time.

heres one for you: the munchables for wii. it was made by bandai namco and is something of a spiritual successor to katamari, except instead of picking up objects you play as a little gremlin who hungers for the food shaped enemies. eating enemies levels you up and every couple leves you get larger, letting you eat different enemies and unlock more secrets. some stages are linear platforming ones where in order to get some collectibles you need to make sure you've eaten enough enemies before moving beyond a point of no return, while other levels are like open loops where you have to reach a certain level to finish the stage but going above that will net you more goodies. the plot is simplistic but surprisingly starts to have a few interesting bits near the end of the game, nothing groundbreaking but more enjoyable than you think it will be. the soundtrack is also filled with bangers, in fact if theres one thing you know from the game its the boss theme, panic restaurant. thats not the only good track though, you have tracks like the funky upbeat sizzling paradise, the fun chiptune of chocolate dining, the more surreal jam that is the greenish illusion remix, and my personal favorite the laid back and weird track gobbler a la carte, which perfectly compliments scrolling through the enemy bestiary and reading about what exactly you've been eating.
the game holds a special place in my heart because i played it to death when i was really really small, and if you can get past the sort of "kid friendly" goofy aesthetic you have a game with (admittedly simplistic) satisfying gameplay and a great ost to match.

i was obsessed with death jr. when i was little. my big cousin had it on his psp and i would try to play but the game was extremely scary to me for some reason. it felt empty and alone and the character designs were so scary. then years later after searching creepy fish game i finally found out the name and now i see its pretty cool ☺

To me, Excite Truck looks like a mashup between the off-roading of 1nsane and the stunt performance of Hot Wheels Stunt Track Driver. AND I LOVE IT. If only there was a GameStop open longer than 12 hours where I can buy it for $0.59 or something.
Death Jr. is very nostalgic to me. The ds game is one of the first games I played on the system, yet I had the volume down because of the eerie music. Tbh, to this day I still keep the volume because of the music.
ExciteBots and ExciteTruck were my absolute JAM. Thanks for the mention. Honestly playing Bots then getting Truck later felt like a downgrade. Bots just feels more kinetic. Plus proper Wii Wheel support.

Death Jr. looks 100% like Pyschonauts. I suppose that art style was very in. They even have a giant meat/entertainment mashup stage! (Although it's a circus and not an amusement park). And Double Fine's (dev of Psychonauts) has a similar logo character to the adjoined twins character in DJ.
Curious if similar people worked on both projects. Man the early 00s had some kinda style, idk if it's just a rip of Burton's works or coincidence but I absolutely love it, just finished up a replay of Psychonauts and am so ready for the long awaited sequel coming out later this year.

As a kid, I probably spent hundreds renting, and re-renting, Snowboard Kids and Snowboard Kids 2 for the N64. It's similar mechanics to Diddy Kong Racing or Mario Kart, however I felt it was always a more satisfying experience. The soundtrack was absolutely fantastic, probably the best racing game soundtrack I've ever heard. I would rather play Snowboard Kids than anything on PS4, XBox One, or the Switch.

So glad to see Virtual-On getting the spotlight it deserves! I was also one of those kids that played it all the time in arcades. The original game is available on the Japanese PSN store for PS3 and PS4. Sadly, the latest game in the series (which was a crossover with a light novel series) never got an English translation.
