I'm loving watching this and finding out in depth stories about the fight for re-enstatement. I marched as a young 22yr old glory glory
I came down from brisbane for this fight. In George I had this incredible faith in him leading us to victory over Murdock.
After the rally I knew we had it won. The mass of people from all parts of society were family to me.

As everyone said, so many supporters of other clubs turned up to our rally because it wasn't just about Souths, or even just about rugby league. It was about right & wrong, we were right & what News ltd & the NRL were doing to us was wrong. To this day I've never subscribed to foxtel & never will
Must be a Rooter supporter that gave this a thumbs down. I remember Easts people coming into our schools and local juniors trying to get a foot in the door when we were out of the comp.
One of the criteria for being in the competition was odd, the home ground had to face north south, funny that Rooters home ground, old Sports Ground, went East to west, they also did not have required number of junior sides. Money talks and still does in the game today
I thought it was Cheers Cheers to Souths Sydney
In the early eighties we had a song "Cheer Cheer for South Sydney's might, we've got the spirit, we've got the fight. As we lift our voices high, we'll shake down the thunder from the sky". Sydney Swans now use that song.
