I love the new Forest Men. But think the old ones where ok but plain. the new ones are my jam.
I'm going to be real. I think the green dragons are a little over hyped. Their neat, but I uses them as former members of the red dragons. Who are on the run.
Maybe make the Bear Knights. The original faction before most where forced to wear the dragon crest. The only ones who still wear it are the chads who will take anyone on.
I love Vladek. But all the helmets suck on the minifigs. So that kills his minifig.
I'm fine with the dwarfs. Just needed a bit more.
My fright knight's are true neutral. And uses skulls in jars to power war machines. Their main issues that there grunts are to plain.
the Skelton knight's have the beast evil lair. Besides maybe Jestros castle.
I treat black knights as a grab bag of mid evil parts. I dont treat them as their own faction.
I think the Bull is the best bad guy in midevil. But besides the Bulll there mid, and fit the dark forest man/wolf pack them more then the bulls.
I tend to use the rouge, as a true rouge. Who rarely works the wolf pack. Most of the time just a bounty hunter.
Currently I took my rouge mixed him with LM2 Wild style. And made a forest woman who field the forest men and is the leader for the wolf pack.
I plain on taking the Vader mech. And turning it into a tree golem, power by the dead bodies of fallen forest men.
Like a 40k dread noght.

@@Goldfyre well that’s good enough. Basically I made a Druid with it.
The Druid works for the forest men. The Forest men men only use living wood. This living wood is made by the Druid. He uses his nature to remove the wood from the tree, like plucking a apple a apple from a tree. Or warp it like clay.
To get the Golem to move, the wood needs to be soaked in this magic. The magic felling the dead body like a gas tank on a car.

Yes! Black knights and Wolfpack need a modern remake.
Hell we could expand on that since they'd need an adversary, I would propose a Griffon Knights faction, with yellow-blue-red colour scheme

RIP Kingdoms theme, so much potential for that short lived theme. doesnt make sense why they would scrap their lion and dragon knight factions a year later for another lion and dragon knight faction...
Red Knights and Green Dragons chess set is a great way to get those figures
Agreed on 2 things, Fantasy Crown Knights are epic, and the Bear Knight is definitely ideal for green dragon knights.
I totally agree with the Green Dragons as an S-tier. Maybe my favorite of the Castle figures. As far as I know they were the first with that dark pearl grey armor and accessories, fantastic prints, kind of at the beginning of castle getting cooler facial expressions. Their sets had a lot of parts previously unreleased or at least in new colors. I bought a lot of these.
I think you may have been a little tough on Wolf Pack. Just figures alone they were pretty great and you see them in Castle MoCs all the time.

Green Dragons were the only faction I ever attempted to army build, they're so cool! Makes me happy to see some appreciation for them nowadays
If the Castle theme had lived past 2014 I think that it would have been great if we got to see different factions that correspond with different regions, the regions could be western Europe, eastern Europe, the Nordic countries, and even what we call the Middle East.
I agree! I really hope we get some Slavic & Middle Eastern inspired factions in the future.
I agree, the Medieval Blacksmith is my absolute favourite Lego Ideas set too. I love it’s scale, it’s detail, it’s civilian focus.
I also love how perfectly coherent/self contained the design is. I’m not really sure how to explain it - the are no extraneous bells and whistles - every element of the design is focused on delivering the concept of “this IS a blacksmith”. Other Ideas sets may be more visually spectacular but not always so coherent E.g. Barracuda Bay (which btw I love) is more dramatic but a bit visually chaotic/fantastical, with lots of disparate stuff going on.
I hope Lego makes more Medieval builds in the scale and style of the Blacksmith. These could be other buildings, or small diorama scenes (e.g. a farm or manor house, a watch tower, a toll bridge, a mill, a trebuchet etc)
It is a nice set. But the scale is not correct
100% agree! I would love a medieval windmill in that scale! Or any kind or re-release of that medieval village set I missed out on. That was actually the set that made me decide to return to the hobby as an adult. Sadly, it was already discontinued by the time I inquired about it at the Lego store. I ended up buying the Pool Hall instead at the rest is history!
Definitely think Raven faction should get their own line of sets, maybe pit them against Bear knights. The color scheme and design screams classic lego while being fresh and grounded in realism
I couldn't agree more! Although if we ever do get a new castle line i hope they create two new factions. My pick would be Dark Orange Foxes vs Bright Light Orange Snakes.
@Goldfyre I would like new factions as well as a mix of old. That is what I like most about fantasy era and classic era is we got 4 factions, lots of variety and options
I love Dragon Masters. They are my favourite faction, and I love all the factions of that era: Black Knights, Wolfpack, and Royal Knights.
I agree with some but you gotta be honest with me most of the reasons I went against your decisions was just the pure nostalgia factor, most guys like me grew up with the lions and dragons factions that you put in the f and d tier and we loved them. I’m not trying to make an argument I’m just saying that some deserve more credit than they were given and I totally agree that most factions shown need a much needed modern remake but besides that it was a nice video and I enjoyed watching it, good job dude :)👍

I think the pink crown knights deserve some more love.
Last year I repurposed the new CMFs into a custom army and built my own version of the Classic Yellow Castle in a display that was approximately 30×40 inches. The new armor is really cool, with a nice printed torso under the Chestplate.

Dark forest got snubbed here! Dragon knights and fright knights are my S tier but I’m a sucker for 90s castle in general and I love the fantasy elements. Got a NISB night lord’s castle coming tomorrow!!

I have second hand nostalgia for the lion kingdom. As someone who was not alive during the golden age, I have only been finding bits of the lion kingdom in my hand me down bricks, I have wondered for years where they came from. Looks great!
Since you have included both fantasy factions and CMF factions than you have to also include the elven warrior lady and the definitely-not-legolas elven archer that came out of CMF too, both with amazing shields.

I can tell by your rankings and nostalgia that you are about 5 years older than me.
Black Falcons are definitely my favorite, with a close second being the Red Lions from the Kingdoms theme. I like the Forestmen, too - though I agree that the minifigs are a bit plain-looking. The modern ones are better, but the fact that they only have the ones with the red sleeves/collars is definitely holding them back - the original 90s versions had a mix of red, blue, and black.
And I definitely liked the Trolls, just for how unique they were! Their Mountain Fortress was such a cool reinterpretation of the classic LEGO castle-set formula.
I'd love to see the Pink Knights get some new sets. The old yellow castle is definitely minimalist enough that there's plenty of room for interpretation, but between the yellow color, the arches, and the use of lattice fences on the main tower, I see it as a Moorish/Andalusian-style architecture. I'd love to get a full series of sets with that style, to contrast the more European-looking gray stone castles we've mostly gotten.
I'd love to see an Iberian-inspired faction! There's so much they could do with that region and its diverse architecture.

The Knights Castle was the last Castle I had gotten before I checked out of Lego and was late into my teenage years. I would from 2010 to 2012, collect a bunch of classic castle sets from the 80s era.
It's hard to take the Rogue Knights seriously when they're almost naked.
Remind me of the Guy missing his pants from the Lego movie.
I wish Lego castle would come back as a main theme, all the sets seem to be big collector sets or gifts with purchases.
I 100% agree. i am not a fan of themes like castle & lord of the rings being exclusive to big D2C sets & gwps.
I'm learning about the different factions and they're all so cool, definitely the theme that would benefit most from more remakes
If I’m being honest, my favorite castle faction either has to be the crusaders (the first lion faction he did) or the black falcons
In my Lore the world is comprised originally of two kingdoms, sky and Earth. Kinda a Holy Roman empire collection of states. Eventually two kingdoms were born from those, Dragon Kingdom from a collection of all the dragon houses banding together broke away from the sky kingdom and Lion Kingdom, from the same thing breaking away from the earth. Without the Lions, the rest of the earth kingdom has fallen into more conflict, meanwhile in the sky kingdom without the Dragons, the Black Falcons have monopolized most of everything and rule as the unquestionable dominate house. The racial factions (Orcs, skeletons, etc) live in the inbetween lands or on the periphery of those kingdoms, The black falcons have had good relationships with the dragons even post them leaving (as the dragons leaving and the falcons rise have given wealth to both houses). Meanwhile the Lions do not get along with any of the earth kingdom houses. Meanwhile the Lions see the Dragon houses as "a great house" and so treat them as equals, but do not afford the same respect to the black falcons, because they still rule under "the sky kingdom" and not the black falcon Kingdom, which tends to cause minor conflcits between Lion noble lords thinking Black falcon territory is a good place to take or fight over and conflicts between them arise on the low end, though usually being resolved before it breaks into a major conflict.

Honestly most people judge the fright knights by the witches( ballon and manor) but forget the good ones like the tower and the prisoner transport

The CMF Tournament Knight is just amazing. The colours and the shield sigil are great, and the face print is nice too!
Black Falcons are the best original faction.
I love the Kingdoms Red Lions and Green Dragons.
Black Knights are crying out for a modern remake. They were so iconic in my childhood for their fantastic sets (esp. the Sea Serpent!), and great shields, helmets and plumes. However, their torsos and armour are much too plain for modern use. I imagine (hope!) Lego will issue and update in the next few years.
The Wolfpack also deserves a remake. I don’t count the CMF rogue as true Wolfpack - agree it has more Forestmen vibes.
The Fright Knights are amazing! So iconic.
Bull Knights were in my dark age, but agree they have great potential - would be good to see them revived.
Bear Knights - really great figure, but agree they can blend with the Green Dragons.
Hate the Royal Knights!😂
Crusaders are nostalgic to me, but agree bit meh design wise. Maybe too many colours as you say.
I couldn't agree more with just about everything you said! The Black Knights and Wolfpack both deserve a modern remake. The Wolfpack needs new sets and the black knights need a new minifig.
Fright knight bat helm is the ultimate helmet for medieval lego minifigs and I will fight anyone who disagrees

I think there can be one faction which can count. There was a Minifigures Musketeer - some say it was not medieval, but still kind of fits to the setting, mine were always guards of the Kingdoms King :) There was also one Viking in minifigures as i recall, some creator beginner set featured a knight and a really small castle. Big respect for putting Kingdoms high!
As a kid, I didn't think of the Black Knights, Crusaders, or even Black Falcons as separate armies of separate nations, but instead had a random mix of a bunch of different knights fight against ghosts and other bad guys and conquer my Fischer-Price castle playset. My personal favorite shirts were Wolfpack and the crossed axes Crusader. At one point I combined the all black head of a Lego ghost, a Wolfpack shirt, and the red princess hat and had myself an Evil Druid as a rare bad guy minifigure and enemy of the valiant Knights.
Forestmen and Dark Forestmen would've been my favorites if I had them, possibly. I'd have mixed them and Wolfpack willy-nilly, of course.
Sometimes aesthetically very similar factions work well together by just not trying to make a distinction between them. The dwarves, crown knights, and blue lions are all basically the same (even all having the same golden crown belt buckles) so maybe the blue lions are just wealthier individual crown knights who pay for more saturated blue dye in their clothes, or more impoverished ones wearing hand-me-downs including the kingdom's outdated lion motif. Likewise there are multiple "Crusaders" insignias as well as a lot of red/blue Black Knights and the like in the old 80s and early 90s stuff. Dark Forestmen aren't so much a different group from regular Forestmen as they are the same exact kind of bandits depicted in higher resolution as Lego's design language evolved.
The Black Raven Knight was my first ever CMF Minifigure I ever got, so I can relate to the bias. The color scheme and the shield design are really great too
I think the weirdest thing about Blue lions is that they have 2 symbols, the torsos are all printed with a crown while the flags and accessories all have the royal lion which is weird.
I did spend most of my day yesterday using all my Blue lion torsos for a dwarf army.

You really dipped your toes into the viper's nest there, mr GoldFyre 😁😅I think what generation of sets one grew up with plays a huge role here. I like the old factions for nostalgic reasons, but with modern prints they sadly don't hold up well.
What I do like is that they are non-fantasy and feel pretty historically accurate. When I grew up I always pitted Wolf Pack and Forestmen against the knights, letting the Black Falcons be the archers and the crusaders melee/cavalry.
During the last years I have grown some fondness towards the Green Dragons, Bear knights, Crown knights and the Red lion knights. Your f-tier lion knights can be easily kit-bashed into Crown knights, so I like them for that.
Lastly, thanks for sharing your opinions about the factions and a new video showcasing the figs and the sets!
My current castle line-up is the OG lion knights, black falcons, red lions, and green dragons, all with armies and castles.
Bulls are mercenaries with a variety of siege weapons.
Scorpions, ravens, and pink crowns are visiting factions at the tournament since I don't have many.
And I'm currently working on a couple builds for the updated forestmen, which I consider a former kingdom without a home. Lots of ruins in the forests, ambush points, hidden hideouts in caves.
A lot of inspiration from GoT.
A few choices I would have differently, but I can see why you ranked things the way you did.

I grew up with Castle 2013 and I thought they were alright, but I MUCH preferred the Red Lion knight and Green Dragon knight from the one Kingdoms set I had.
I would really love a new castle theme of battle pack style sets for each faction (or most of them) and then a larger set for each that could include named characters/leaders

Hello! Great idea to rank all castle themes I liked it! May I ask why do you think that Frights Knigts have Eastern European vibes? It's very interesting for me as I'm from Eastern Europe and also a big fan of this faction. It made my childhood in 1999. It's really interesting how do people from the West see our region atmosphere.
To me for whatever reason the torsos feel more Eastern European. Also vampires and bats are generally associated with Romania & Moldova. It's hard to put into words it's just one of those things.
@@Goldfyre I see. Well you may be right about minifigures prints. At least one of them has a chainmail with metal plates - real eastern type of armor very popular in Russia and Poland. We call it bechterets. And it was also very popular to wear red clothes under the armor, just like a standard fright knight does. Thank you! I guess now I know the way to create an Eastern European lego army))
@@Ditrich2000 Oh wow I just looked up this armor and it does have a strong resemblance to one of the torsos! I've always been fascinated with eastern European history and the cultures there so I love learning new things about it.

My fav gotta be the black knights, fright knights and dragon masters, they are all unique unlike the black falcons and lion knights which I never got the hype around as they are pretty basic when you look at them and their sets.
I think they should remake their medieval stuff and streamline those factions. There are like 100 different lion guys that really always seem to serve the "good guy" king. Most of them are even blue and silver. They could make the royal guard purple and the princes army red so that this makes sense as well. The bear knight is just a baron of the wolf knights with his own banner and stuff. The Black falcons should stay their own faction as well as the black ravens. All of the dragon knights could be united under one faction as well, but the red dragons are henchmen of that wizzard guy, while the green dragons are servants of the dragon king.

The Raven Knights are also my favorite! I hold out and hope that LEGO will revive them one day into a set or two, but I do not see it happening.

I loved the black raven knight. I used mine to make a custom knight/lord and in my own little head canon he sort of operates on his own. The only changes I made to mine was adding a hairpiece and a cape
I think he works wonderfully as a standalone traveling tournament knight.
Fun fact: if you were to change the raven into an eagle, you would have a Lower Silesia knight - yellow and black, black eagle.
And if you were to google it, you would know what that is.
I liked the vid but my personal favorites are the blue lion knights and the red dragon knights because of their rivalry! Good vid but those to are the best!
@seymour the blue Lion knights and red dragon knights aren't my top favorites but I think they're a super underrated faction. The colors and prints on the minifigs was so clean. It's a shame Lego decided to introduce them on the heels of a great Kingdoms faction ( causing lion/dragon faction fatigue and resentment from Kingdoms fans).

I agree with your S tier, but I'm a Black Falcon fan sins I grew up with them as a kid in the eighties. Nothing beats Black Falcons for me. For example the triangle shields, blue and yellow borders (vintage) and then in recent times the silver border version so that's 3 versions which is amazing for army building although the vintage ones cost an arm and a leg haha.
My favorite Castle Lego factions were the original Forestman and the Black Knights.
My favorite faction is the scorpion knights there’s something about them that just feels so badass

Black Bulls were my guys. I think I got a few sets twice because it was just a limited amount of sets. But definitely the best looking faction before Castle/kingdom got to detailed with the modern sets.

why'd you leave out the hero knights (from knight's kingdom II)?
If you include the black ravens and the bear knights you should also include the boar knights (Evil Knight, Series 7).
You forgot the Knight from CMF Series 9 and Evil Knight from Series 7. You also forgot the elves.
I didn't include the series 7 fig as a faction because I haven't seen many mocs or discussion around him. As for the series 9 heroic knight i didn't include him because he is too similar to the 2007 crown knights imo.
I completely forgot to add the elves though.

Interesting video! I still rate Dragon Masters, Royal Knights and Wolfpack. Taking sets released into account (the Kings Carriage in the Royal Knights set could be converted into a siege tower!)I`d never put the Royal Knights in the same bracket as the Lion Knights which I would say are inferior. Still can`t believe the fabric back wall to the Kings chamber in the Lion Knights castle. Wow, shocking!
I grew up with the royal nights and dark forest men and the Dragon masters the top tree factions.
I can get behind this for the most part but I think skeletons are not D tier I think they're B or at least C. They look dope as fuck and theyre super unique and memorable

Ok every figurine collector will hate me to death for this but as a kid i was like "what idiot at lego cant even put same colors on both arms and legs" and just swapped them xD
For me, there would be a lot more in s tier including the crown knights, the Lion knights (crusaders) Lion knights (kingdoms) and although lego castle 2013 was terrible, the minfigures and factions used were really cool looking. Not A tier, but c tier for the lions, and at least b tier for the dragon knights who really nail that evil look. Oh and I would put the kingdoms dragon knights at high a tier, but not s tier, because they didn’t really feel big. Like what I mean is they do feel like a bunch of robbers and and bandits, not an actual evil threat to the Lion knights which makes it hard to take them seriously.

I don't know the 2013 castle replacing Kingdoms was the worse choice ever made no debate. They should of extended and continued it.
I think if either kingdoms or castle2013 had a few more waves of sets they would be looked at in higher regard. Especially cas2013

I don’t know for sure cuz I was to pore as a kid to even own legos but I’ve seen a shield with a tree logo and some others in my opinion even if it’s not marketed as a kingdom or castle set or faction if they have all the stuff mainly a emblem then it should be included even if it’s from a different like line of products like lord of the rings or whatever

Am I crazy having the skeletons as my S tier? While I had many of the crown, new lion, and dragon knights, the skeletons always stuck out to me and I loved their evil vibe.
