That castle is insane and the comparison next to the lions knight castle is stunning. The two having different designs makes them compliment each other even better.
It is quite cool to see the different techniques. They are 'enemy' factions in a way, so you can use them as opposing castles in a display. I also like the mountain fortress for this, but this 4x 3 in 1 is more available.
Thank you so much for building this MOC and the super detailed indepth review! Awesome to hear your personal thoughts on this MOC and everyone's personal takes on this MOC in the comments. It was an honor to work with you on this video :)
Been following this over on Reddit in the legocastle forum. I find it funny when people say they hate doing Mocs cause no number bags when back in the 80’s and 90’s we didn’t have number bags from lego. We always had to sort our pieces before the build and honestly it’s why I like doing Mocs. Brings back those childhood memories. These younger generations with their number bags lol sheesh. I’ve got 4 of these 3-1 sets to make this castle and as an avid lego castle builder since the 80’s I thank you for this design. True talent here
@@medicusvulneratum3125 haha i agree, to a point. the biggest difference is back in the day we didnt have 2000+ piece sets and many of the parts were huge and easy to spot. i like doing a fresh new lego set to relax, but doing these custom mocks when i need more of a challenge
@@medicusvulneratum3125 I remember the alternate builds pictured on the back of the box with no instructions and figuring out how to build them by reverse engineering the pieces in the picture. I look at the Lego instructions of today in disbelief at how many pages they are due to having a separate panel for 1 or 2 bricks placed when in the early years it would build up a whole level of bricks per panel.
You did a sick job on this dude. I just got my first 3in1 castle that i havent opened yet, and was starting to get some buyers remorse seeing all the yellow pieces and stuff, but this reminded me that with some creativity the sky is the limit. You took copies of a pretty childish looking set and made an imposing fortress that rivals the lion knights castle. Truly impressive
WOW this review has brought back a memory that I haven’t thought about in ages!!! Roughly 30+ years ago, I spent a couple days at my childhood friend’s house while my parents were away on a business trip. While I was at Jon’s house we got the best idea to build a MASSIVE Lego castle which would top any and all other castles EVER! To put it in context, both of our parents were architects and his family was very well off, which is directly related to this story because he had literally every Lego set at the time and being that we grew up around professional builders we had a little more knowledge about designing this castle than most other kids that we knew. Anyways we decided to build a castle one day from the baseplate up and up we went lol. This castle was almost as tall as our 10-12 year old self’s and had removable/hinged sections all over the place. I have to admit that Jon had the upper hand when it came to designing and building the majority of the castle but I didn’t slack off because while he was busy stacking bricks I was busy mustering up both the defenders and building the siege weapons that the attacking army was going to bring to the battlefield. I can’t remember exactly how many mini figures were used to take part in the siege but if I had to guess there were roughly 3-400 mini figures in total. I remember that the defending army was out numbered which probably put their numbers at around 150ish but they were all professional soldiers and the majority of the attacking army was made up of foresters and townspeople (from the actual Town sets) with the properly trained soldiers consisting of mostly Black Falcons and Dragon Knights. I seem to recall that we were also planning on having a full Naval fleet since he had a couple ships from the Pirates range as well but if memory serves me correctly my parents came back from their business trip and picked me up from his house before we could get that far into the build. Man what a cool trip down nostalgia’s memory lane, thanks for the video and letting me remember that awesome memory 👍
@@Josiah_LOTR That one isn't as limited by it's selection of parts while it was designed, but I agree it is a little better. The strength of this build is in the fact that there are many good builds that you can make with multiples of the 3 in 1 castle set, so you can have a ton of building fun by owning those 4 sets.
What a great Castle. To bad I'm 13 and don't have close to enough money to buy it. This is by far the best solution, just watching you review and show me the set. Thanks for making my day, like you always do with a new upload
So glad Goldfyre doesn't go for the frantic editing style which is common among some star-wars youtubers. It is well narrated, relaxing and the camerawork is excellent, allowing you to see the build really well.
Finally got the kits/instructions to put this MOC together. Totally worth doing in my opinion. 2 days to sort parts, another 3 to build, but I love how it turned out! Seriously well-designed with so many details packed in. Definitely wanna use it as part of a larger medieval city build down the line!
Yes it can be daunting to start thousand+ piece MOC if you have little experience outside of official LEGO sets. It's a different skillset. The only thing I don't like about this MOC is how steep the main ramp is. Also I love the drone style hovering from POI to POI spots you used in this review. I was planning to buy this MOC anyway so just used your code to purchase
Oof no kidding. I started building this a couple of days ago. Took me 3,5 hours just to sort all the pieces to avoid having to search 5 minutes for every single piece.
I made this moc from 4 sets I had. I spent a lot of time organising parts into shapes, which made it so much easier. It looks great next to the Lion Knight Castle and castle in the forest set. Highly recommended A++++
I just got my 4th set, hoping to have the time to build this during the winter months. Super pumped for this and the mountain fortress which I also have an order in for.
Congratz on the 4 sets. I mean .. Winter is coming .. but it's far away atm. :) There are quite a few builds that you can make with 1, 2, 3 or 4 sets, that is a lot of stuff to choose from.
@@pinobluevogel6458 yeah, I'm very busy with work for the spring into fall but things slow down for me in the winter months. I definitely have tons of mocs for the 3in1 saved on my rebrickable, so many good ones!
This is actually really cool. The overall design is very impressive, but in my opinion, the Brick Link Designer Program Series 1 Mountain Fortress is more appealing. I really like the style of it and the Lion Knight Castle, but I still understand that this is a rebrickable moc, making it harder to make it perfect. All in all, it is very awesome, and the creator of it must have put in a TON of work to make it.
You might be right about the Mountain Fortress, but that set is no longer available and it sold out extremely quickly while it was. Having these 3x1 mocs as alternatives is just great for all castle fans, as at least in the US they seem to be readily available at reasonable prices.
This is a very sweet looking build. This 3 in 1 set isn't as available anymore as it was about a month or 2 ago. It went into discount at our largest regular toystore (Intertoys) and immediately sold out everywhere. The cheapest I can find it now at retail is still only 5 dollars off. One thing I noticed while looking for this set, is that ordering more than 2 sets is often not possible for delivery at home, so you have to be able to order them at different places, or pick them up in store. I do really like the set as a parts package, but buying it for more than 75 dollar is probably still overpaying, as the pieces that you really need aren't that expensive, while also containing a lot of that yellow that people really dislike. If it were any other realistic color, brown, tan or even white, it would have made the base set infinitely better. There are also the parts for the brickbuilt dragon included in the set, which I think isn't too great either. Overall, I think if you have the sets, or can get them on a budget, the 4x3x1 Castle is an amazing thing to be able to build. Keep in mind there are many more 3x1 Mocs, or 2x3x1 or 3x3x1 versions of builds that are all made with this excellent part package, so you have tons of options, which I think is the strongest selling point of having multiples of this set. Thanks Goldfyre, for a detailed look into this very nice Castle. It is not as professional as a Lion Knight's set, but the robust look, with the detailing on the walls is certainly a refreshing alternative build style.
I’ve built a few of made with bricks three and one castle mock now, but this was one I had to do when I saw it. I never thought I would’ve bought four of the same same set to build a MOC but this castle had to be done. I haven’t even ever built the original three and one castle. The build was challenging as you indicated, I wouldn’t have changed it. I was surrounded by sorted parts and it definitely took probably two or three times as long as it may have otherwise, but I enjoyed every second of it. I have the cast display right next to the lion Knight castle and they complement each other wonderfully. I couldn’t recommend this one more. Great video and overview of the build.
If you're used to it, having to look for parts isn't as much of an issue. It takes a bit of patience and a whole lot of faith that the parts WILL be actually there :)
This castle is amazing. The exterior is overly textured for my taste, but nothing a 5th set couldn't solve with the extra parts. Incredibly impressive for using limited parts.
This castle is amazing. I want to build this; saving for a LUG build. Bricksie had a sorting video for MadeWithBrix Black Falcon Knights Castle, and he had a big plate dish with 6 compartments. I have a lot of plastic bins & trays to organize when I build. Dollar stores are great for that stuff. I've taken the little moat tiles off that 3-set castle, and built 2 MILS plate with an entire rocky base with a dungeon level. It lines up so the 2 top halves of the castle connect. This building process highlights the value of numbered bags and the 20 minifigs & 2 horses w/armor in Lion Knights.
Aaaaand watching this video helped me realize that I had the Sea Serpent ship as a kid, because I have been trying to figure out where in the world some of my extra parts came from as I'm inventorying my old sets for the first time in twenty-five years. Thanks!
The details on this castle are great, but I hate the clash between the light and dark stone gray colors. It would be fine if it was one uniform color with the other used for accenting, but that’s more a problem of the 3 in 1 than this MOC. Very nice overall
Fantastic review - love the new setup, btw. Idk why but this MOC lowkey reminds me of the Fisher price castle I had as a kid (iykyk). Great point you make about the build experience btw.
Older Lego fans are used to sets not coming all numbered and easy, staring at a pile of Lego trying to find a piece. Although its not exactly a barrel of fun doing it as I recently found. I think sets have got so big that you have to do hours of prep before you even start building, or it will take you forever and you will build at around ten bricks per hour and go insane constantly thinking you have lost pieces, only to find them in the same spot you searched twenty times. Plastic tubs, get loads of those tubs your Madras is delivered in and spend time organising everything.
I just made the alternate build for LKC by Sebbl. Really nice castle with a lot of playability and also a lot more room to pose minifigs. You should definitely check it out. This Black Falcons MOC is amazingly build, but I’m not sold on the colors. But that’s a 3 in 1 problem.
I have four of the sets needed to build this. But no interest in doing that. I will build a moc with four of the Lion Knights Castle instead. With a few additions from the Mountain Fortress.
I like how compact the Black Falcons castle is, compared to the Lion Knights one. Also, the dark gray walls gives it a rustic look, which I like very much, compared to the clean look of the walls of the official lego Lion Knights set
I never sort by color -- only by part type. Saves me time when I end up askinh "do I have this part in this color?" Well, I go to the part type bowl, see the color I want, & grab it. If I don't see it right away, then I don't have it.
Thanks for the video. I have a 3X Rebrickable MOC of this set already on display and could see doing this one as well. I saw the instructions and they look great but I don’t think you covered the stability of the build? I don’t mind sorting and hunting for bricks as I am from the pre-numbered bags generation, but I don’t like some of these MOCs where you need 3 hands to hold them together or that use unstable building techniques like a large overhang only supported by 1 stud. Any information on that?
That is a good question and i guess i forgot to mention it because it wasn't an issue at all! It genuinely feels to be about as strongly built as a regular set. The least stable part of the entire build is the front of the boat but the rest is very sturdy.
Its a cool moc, for my taste its a bit too bulky looking, I like the clean slender look of the Lions Castle a bit better. But the fact that this is made out of that weird gate house is quite cool.
Great review. This MOC is way too big for me, but man is it impressive. Respectfully disagree about the Brick built sail in the ship, I think it looks pretty awesome.
I like the moc more than either the 4in1 or the lion knight castle. But id never pay that kind of money for a castle unless it was ridiculously massive AND i had a boatload of space. Plus the funds lol
I wish I had enough space, I'd get em all, but I'm already stacked to the ceiling w sorted lego. I'd rather try to use what I have, and order the rest . $400 goes along way on PAB
For people that own a lot of bricks in this style, that is probably the way to go. Even if you order from only Lego PAB itself, you skip the shipping costs if it's over 40 dollars and at least the more expensive parts, like shields and minifigs are close to the minimum price you can get. I've looked into ordering it on Bricklink, but that makes for a whole lot of shipping, considering how many parts this is.
That one caught my eye as well. Especially the exterior is much more streamlined. This 4x3x1 version has much more interior space though, which is nice for displaying your Black Falcons.
I agree with the review. I didn't like the building experience and probably will not attempt any MOC in the future as there are way too many pieces in this build and I have to spend "stupid" amount of time digging through the pile. Unless you have a very big space available that will not be disturbed by anyone else, it's gonna be hard to build this. Also the build isn't as polished as the official lego which makes it less enjoyable as an official set.
I hate the fact that whoever made the MOC used only the pieces from the four copies of the 3 in 1 set. However, I love the NPU in it, like the Lego doors being used as a bunk bed.
The big obvious thing that you strangely don't seem to address is that this castle is an homage to set 6086, which many castle fans consider to be one of the best official castle sets. I love how they've expanded so much on the concept of 6086. For what this is, I can't think of many ways to improve it. I am not a fan of the Creator set for several reasons, including the colours, and this does a lot to tone down the yellow. I'm not a huge fan of the technique on the corner octagonal towers, which leaves those long vertical gaps, but given the pieces available, this is really well done.
When madewithbrix (the designer) first showed me the set a couple months back i immediately clocked it as 6086. He did a great job of reinventing it with the pieces from the creator castle imo. The reason i didn't mention the homage in this video is because i have a running gag where i ignore/hate on the black knights whenever the chance arises. Which i guess can be a little puzzling to new viewers of my videos lol
I've loved the Black Falcons since the original "Black Falcons Fortress" was released in 1986 and feel that this MOC completely does justice for the Falcons as one of their main castles 🙂 I think that the design is wonderful: from the asymmetrical architecture to the various details inside, the Master Castle looks fantastic! Question Goldfyre: what do you think of the new Bricklink "Mountain Fortress?" I'd enjoy your thoughts on that set^^
@@Goldfyre I can understand your critique about the price. I personally like the Mountain Fortress and consider it a worthy successor for the Black Falcons 🙂 To each their own 😉
I wasted almost 200 bucks on 50 black falcon knights and accessories for them😅. I need someone to tell me i made the right choice lol. I will probably do it too for the other faction but probably on october
I think if the moc somehow was a set and came with more Minifigures it, the lion knights castle would be getting a lot less praise. The moc looks and is way better, for roughly the same price.
I'm sure yours is great but i get it lol. i try and not compare my stuff too much to other people's work because it's a quick way to make me dislike my own MOCs
The sets on rebrickable so far can be a whole lot better, just look at how popular and how positive the reviews are. Generally, if it is a weaker build, the comments will show that. I've bought a car Moc from a swedish youtuber, because it would also support a good cause. While the car looks pretty amazing and is functional in every other way, the connections are weak and the design is very flimsy,. It even fell apart during building several times. This should not be an issue with the more popular Rebrickable mods though, those are built by hundreds of people, sometimes way more, so it should be said somewhere if it is non-functional.
It looks so cobbled-together and random that I think you're really better off just watching videos like this for design ideas and building your own castle.
The reason why it is son expensive is bc people our age 30-40 are still buying lego... which is really cool but hence the prices... those castles coste 1/3 of the price when I was a kid.
I would have loved to get into castle but it's too much with star wars prices and castle being exclusively expensive "adult" theme now. Also there is lord of the rings coming out...

Amazing video!
The contrast on the walls make it better than the lion knight’s
Great review. This MOC is way too big for me, but man is it impressive. Respectfully disagree about the Brick built sail in the ship, I think it looks pretty awesome.
that's so cool
I like the moc more than either the 4in1 or the lion knight castle. But id never pay that kind of money for a castle unless it was ridiculously massive AND i had a boatload of space. Plus the funds lol
I like the look, harkens back to black knights castle but it’s a little to big for me.
I think the "Black Falcon Knights Castle" from the same author is just more interesting. Too much is happening here.
That one caught my eye as well. Especially the exterior is much more streamlined. This 4x3x1 version has much more interior space though, which is nice for displaying your Black Falcons.
GoldFyre your flippin AMAZING 🥳🥳🥳
I agree with the review. I didn't like the building experience and probably will not attempt any MOC in the future as there are way too many pieces in this build and I have to spend "stupid" amount of time digging through the pile. Unless you have a very big space available that will not be disturbed by anyone else, it's gonna be hard to build this. Also the build isn't as polished as the official lego which makes it less enjoyable as an official set.
I hate the fact that whoever made the MOC used only the pieces from the four copies of the 3 in 1 set. However, I love the NPU in it, like the Lego doors being used as a bunk bed.
I’m gonna build this and then cover it in white bricks too look like snow
Stunning set
Which i guess can be a little puzzling to new viewers of my videos lol
great set/moc and great vid showing it off! I am so tempted to get this instead of the LKC.. but I really want both haha
I went for this one instead of LKC. One thing i really miss though are those 20 varied minifigs. So if that factors in your descision. Get LKC
I am really just not a fan of the mountain fortress. It looks very plain and for the price they were asking I just couldn't get into it
@@Goldfyre I can understand your critique about the price. I personally like the Mountain Fortress and consider it a worthy successor for the Black Falcons 🙂
To each their own 😉
3:10 did you ever walk around medieval buildings? They are usually full of small door.
No I am American 🥲
I would love to see a review of the castle "Burg Blaustein" from Bluebrixx 5000+ pieces for 180$
Nice video, my man.
I built a moc with 3 of the Creator castles, this is making me want to buy another😂
We need a green dragons castle with new green dragon knights
I wasted almost 200 bucks on 50 black falcon knights and accessories for them😅. I need someone to tell me i made the right choice lol. I will probably do it too for the other faction but probably on october
I want a live action movie inspired by LEGO castle factions.
It would be awesome
I think if the moc somehow was a set and came with more Minifigures it, the lion knights castle would be getting a lot less praise. The moc looks and is way better, for roughly the same price.
I would buy this but I am making my own black falcon calste and this one makes mine look like a dump
I'm sure yours is great but i get it lol. i try and not compare my stuff too much to other people's work because it's a quick way to make me dislike my own MOCs
This set looks quite nice, but for it's size, it doesn't need a four-hundred dollar price tag. I only wish it were a bit larger.
Does this model use the extra pieces from the original set?
There's quite a bit of leftover pieces after the build is done. Mostly smalls and some of the dark blue slopes
ill just stick with the mountain fortress for black falcons
Where get the blueprits for build it
Just a slight bit of pedantry here, but arrow "slits" = arrow Loops, "walkway" = Battlements. Otherwise, great review
just saw at like 9:52 there’s an archway that doesn’t connect at the bottom
yup i noticed that too during the edit. it's a 1x1 brown that i knocked off at some point
@@Goldfyre ah dang, so far great build & review vid tho 👍🏻
Can i buy the instruction?
Is that a new set?
Kind of, it's a new MOC from Madewithbrix that uses the 3in1 castle as the base
@@Goldfyre noice
Building custom sets off of rebrickable can be pretty frustrating I've found out.
Yeah it really depends on how well you sort/how many pieces there are
@@Goldfyre I've built a few different tanks and smaller things like that. Can't imagine building a castle 😂
Wish to have it one time 😃
Remember me also pin maybe??
Grinds my gears its labeled black falcons when its clearly a 6086 remake
Yeah i mean the set did come with falcons so it makes sense but you could swap in some old black knights shields.
Did you pay 400 for the instructions or for the boxes and then build it ???
The instructions are 20 Dollars / Euros, but he did say he got a discount for it.
The jazz in the background 😂 Weird vibe, haha
I wish I had more complicated parts. I, sadly, am to responsible to just go spend so much for this moc.
Looks cool
Its nice but to Tiny to Play whit minifigs wish be beter biger build i love build all one to one size sets
How long do you think in total you spent on it?
Uhhh, it's hard to know an exact number but i started the build on thursday and finished it on i believe that same sunday.
Please send this set to Lego ideas, it will be chosen 100%
I would have loved to get into castle but it's too much with star wars prices and castle being exclusively expensive "adult" theme now. Also there is lord of the rings coming out...
Really cool over all design, and i do actually have 4 of these (lol... ouch, my wallet) but this feels like a bit much
I wish $400 was enough to get two castles and 100 figures
Sure. Go buy funwhole then.
$420?
I want your collection sooo bad 🤤
Anybody else get triggered by the front walkway not being pressed all the way down on the middle studs.
yeah that bit actually doesn't make a full connection. You can only really notice it from a lower angle tho
that is legit but I dont now about the price
Hi
Yo
