    Not sure if I'm missing something. I have a laptop with i9-9980HK @ 2.40GHz. I setup StarCitizen.exe to disable threading , like in the video and CPU Priority to High. I also set the CPU Affinity like in the video and disabled hyper threading. But, after launching the game, when I check in Process Lasso, I see that the CPU priority is Normal, the CPU affinity shows that the game is using all cores and hyper threading is NOT disabled. What am I missing???

    • @Polo1309
      @Polo1309 Рік тому

      I don't know if you've found the fix for your issue but it could be that you unchecked cpu affinities for "current" and not "always". As he explains during the video he goes to show how to do it on the "current" part but must be done on "always".

      you cannot use process lasso with Easy Anticheat. the only actual way to disable SMT for any Easy Anticheat game is to go into Bios and turn it off. Same for Black Desert Online, New World etc. You also need to set Easy Anti Cheat to high priority sadly.

When I try to change the always priority settings, it doesn’t do anything, and when I try to change the current settings, it says access denied. I’m running process lasso as admin..

      no i use the demo version - it just pops up an annoying message hehe - im not sure why you do not have the option though... it does not lower the CPU usage, but makes the cpu not split up the workload into virtual cores for the game, which optimizes the performance a bit more

    Kinda mitigated the game being CPU bound, but for me it's quiet unstable running it this way.
    Frametimes go into the gutter and FPS fluctuate more wildly, because if all 8 cores are maxed out there's nothing they could delegate to without SMT.
    Game becomes a bit unstable for me.
    Guess for streaming I really have to use another dedicated PC then, because it seems I can only choose between good FPS on up to 1440p or low CPU usage @4k.
    And sadly I have to use my CPU for streaming, as I have an AMD GPU.

      the 5800x3d is already one of the best (if not the best) cpu for SC because of it's large layered cache design - i dont know whether this will help much or make much difference on that CPU - you can give it a try, but I would imagine you will see very minimal improvement from the disabled ht and priority setting (unless you run a lot of other things while running SC, in which case the priority setting to high will benefit SC) - if you do try it, I'd be interested in hearing your results, feel free to drop on my discord if you do discord.planetwally.com

    Haven't played the game in years and just got the new update - this isn't doing anything for me. Custom loop, 4090 with custom BIOS, 13700K. After changing affinity and priority for both launcher and game the FPS is still dog-shit, with 99% FPS occasionally hitting single digits and average in the lower 40s and upper 30s. I cannot believe this is still an issue this far after release; that's why I only test the game every few years to see if anything has changed.

      AMD cpus do not have efficiency cores, so that portion will not increase performance, however disabling hyper threading and setting priority to high should help - although I do not have an AMD rig to test it on, give it a try and see if it helps for you, I read in forums that people with the 5900x benefited from disabling ht. By the way, when running tests, I recommend using Arena commander since there you are not affected by server performance. Good luck!

    EAC is blocking disabling Hyperthreading, I've enabled High priority in the Registry, But can't do disable Hyperthreading via Process Lasso

    • @planetwally
      @planetwally  2 роки тому

      you have to do it in exactly the order I show in the video and then restart star citizen (first time only) then process lasso will jump in and do it before EAC has chance to start and disable - if you're still having trouble jump onto my discord and I'll help you out - discord.planetwally.com

    This is really for edge cases and for people who have a bad setup, I noticed nearly no difference in the PU with that tweak. It might be that some people have so much stuff running on their windows that switching cores off for SC gives the windows sheduler more breathingroom.
    Also DO NOT TELL PEOPLE TO TURN OFF HYPERTHREADING OR SMT IN BIOS
    This will cut the fps in SC almost in half.
    This problem comes from Windows not allocating cores correctly and is a problem the OS has had for ages. You might aswell just deactivate 2 cores for SC and see what it does.
    Also this problem seems to be almost Intel only. I have a 3800X and noticed almost no difference.
    Again DO NOT DISABLE SMT IN BIOS.

      To be clear - i am showing people how to disable HT via Process Lasso, instead of doing it in the BIOS. Also, this does not help people who have a 'bad' setup - this helps all people using the most recent 12th generation Alder Lake CPUs such as 12600k, 12700k, or 12900k as Windows 10 uses the efficiency cores for SC and those cores result in stuttering and bad performance. This has helped multiple people who have joined my discord and commented and shown me screenshots of their results. Happy to discuss, hop on my discord if you're interested in chatting on voice about it - discord.planetwally.com

      @@planetwally Yes but you need to clarify that also. Noobies will assume its hyperthreading and SMT in general that causes performance issues, while Lasso itself optimizes some sheduling on its own with the balancer. Its not just the SMT stuff which is hyperthreading for AMD and people get confused as you can see in the comments aswell. Thats what I mean.

    I refuse to use the freemium software you linked in the description, and I couldn't find any suitable alternatives to that software, so I quickly dabbled a program that waits until a process with the name StarCitizen.exe runs and sets its process priority to High as soon as as the process is detected.
    Why? Because... priorities.
    And, true to your theory, it worked. The game runs in high priority.
    Thanks, man.

      to test CPU performance, you must test at low resolution so that the GPU does not bottleneck the test.

    how you can gain performances by disable cpu it's illogical and starctizen is CPU bound the gpu is not used for much compared to cpu but can help a lot for volumectric cloud.

      the reason this helps is that windows 10 allocates efficiency cores (known as e-cores) to star citizen. E-cores are very low performance cores and so when used in SC they reduce the performance by introducing stuttering. Disabling e-cores for SC lets the OS only allocate P-cores (Performance cores) to the game and leave E-cores for other uses like discord or whatever other bs is running that doesnt need high perf.
