  • Hi! This is just a quick a video to show my 4C hair texture. My hair is still wet in this video. Once dry, I experience even more shrinkage. It is very tightly curled without a defined curl pattern. My hair is wiry and my coils wrap around each other, which makes it a challenge to detangle. My hair appears full but I have very fine and very FRAGILE strands! :-) My hair also get's dangerously dry so I have to apply Shea butter and oils shortly after my wash and wrap it up to seal in the moisture and prevent breakage. Once you get to know your texture, you are able to properly care for it and experience it in all it's greatness. 4C hair, like all other hair types, is beautiful and I would not trade it for anything! Thanks for watching!!!

your hair is exactly like my daughters.. her friends in school would tease her about how her hair loos so nappy and short.. one day she came home crying about it.. so flat ironed it and sent her to school and they were shocked that her hair was down the middle of her back… that changed her life… she was like mommy I just love my natural hair short and kinky.. my hair is longer than all my friends and they want theirs to look like mine….. yep.. mommies mission accomplished… you have beautiful hair

Tonja Johnson I'm glad that your daughter has been able to embrace her hair. My daughter has hair exactly like mine and I think that because I embrace my hair she does too. I keep her hair in regular ponytails with twists or i'll african thread it. Every once in a while I'll straighten it but of course it lasts less than a week! lol

I never NOT ONCE heard her say, nor give the impression that she found anything wrong with her hair. Your micromanaging'ass comment says more about YOU than it does her feelings about her hair (which, btw, can be whatEVER *she* wants them to be -- in HER life -- and on HER page -- good or bad).

If you are 4c hair, you do have a curl pattern, it's tightly curled, not easily visible. But none the less, it's curls.

As a guy, I don't see why women do anything to their hair. I love all the different hair types, but my favorite has to be kinks(tight or loose. doesn't matter) because it's different. I like that this is a trait blacks have exclusively(whites have eye color, Asians have facial structures, etc.). You can't find anyone else with our hair(similar, but no cigar), and that's no diss or anything because I find women hair in general to be fascinating, but for the women out there, keep your individuality. Put away the relaxers and flat irons. If you must have your hair look longer, use mousse(i think that's how you spell it). That is the only thing my sis puts in her hair and it works fine(it emphasizes and lengthens without emulating straight). She is always told that she has amazing hair(past shoulders above elbow) and although she used to straighten it, she no longer does it as often(maybe 2-3 times a year). Most black girls she knows tells her that seeing her hair makes them wish they didn't perm. She is known for her hair, and I think for black women that it would be a good thing to have something like that. Even white girls tell her that the thickness and length is to be envied. She didn't like it as much before we came to DC, but after we moved, she loved it(DC is probably the most diverse city in America). She even says she'd rather do hairstyles with her natural hair. Black women, if you can't find a reason to like your hair because of surrounding, move to a diverse area. I guarantee that you'll love it afterwards.

Glad I found your vid. I am still transitioning (my pic is a wet set of mostly relaxed hair). I was starting to get nervous b/c all the vids I see are of naturalistas with looser curls. I am not sure what my final texture will be, but according to my mom who started relaxing me at 6, I have "spongy" hair that "draws up." Hmm... sounds like 4c to me. So I am happy to see someone with healthy gorgeous hair of the more coarse type.

You've inspired me not to just give up and give in to braids all the time to prolong my transitioning period! Beautiful hair and thanks for sharing!!!!!

    • @AlexisBDNaturalHair
      @AlexisBDNaturalHair  10 років тому +1

Hi aja garcia! It was hard to let go of my transitioning period. I keep those permed ends for a long time even though I know it was breaking daily. One day I decided that 1) I was doing styles that did not show how long my hair was anyway 2) I wanted to see and experience how my hair looked and felt with the stringly ends 3) I knew that if I did not cut my hair that the hair would split into my natural texture... So, one day I just stood in the mirror and cut off all the permed ends. At first, I was like, "what have I done?" lol but the next moment after and I washed my hair for the first time and could really embrace the texture, I thought it was so beautiful and I felt confident. I promise you that the next time I looked up my hair was longer than the length before I cut it!! No lie!

Hi LT Cartwright! Yes, I understand! When I got feedback on my first video, I understood why people were suspect of my 4c hair. This is such an inspiration! Been stuck at collar-length for a long time, and it's good to see that with patience, I should be able to grow my 4C hair longer.

Hi Alexis, thank you for your videos. I have 4C hair and I have just started to really take care of it. You give me hope with your length. I subscribed to your channel as I like the fact that you take time to reply to comments and that shows that you do care about what we the watchers are saying. Thank you

Nice!!! Waiting for the day my hair get to this length. Glad to see that 4C hair can grow that long and healthy. I always knew but the proof just makes it that much better. Love my 4C :-)

When I had long 4C hair, I only combed it with conditioner in a filtered shower everyday then I long pick lifted it into a style wet with a little moisturizing conditioner. I kept the ends infrequently clipped even. Keep hair out of sun. Moisturize & water inside & out. My hair was gorgeous and the feel was fantastic. I tied it up at night.

THANK YOU for sharing this video!!! I get so discouraged looking for vids of people with hair like mine and my daughters'--how to wear cute styles, how to blow dry straight, how to not look matted down or otherwise be stuck with an afro puff in order to look neat and clean cut--in my environment, because I'm sure that statement offends some, but that's another story. It seems that all of the cute, neat, and more versatile styles are for people who have much softer CURLS than me and mine. And we've lost a lot of hair and TIME, in spite of all of my hard work. And I have given in and gotten our hair relaxed, but we've all been natural again for about two years. This is so encouraging. I will look for more videos from you!

Thanks so much Jacida Dave, I really appreciate your kind words!! When I first started transitioning I braided my hair and wore wigs. Then I was started to wear braid outs which is a good style that blends your natural and permed hair together. Once I cut my permed ends off, I started to retain all of my length as my hair grew.

I started going natural in April but have been having single braids ever since because I have no idea how to handle this type of hair lol. Once I get out of highschool I'll probably be more confident with it and try some of your procedures. Nice video and hair~

Hi MinyBeats, as Naturalista411 stated, you can do it now. The sooner the better!! You can do hairstyles that last for two weeks or more at a time to make it easier on you!

Alexis BD Oh well, I mean I chopped off all my relaxed hair in April, not exactly started I guess haha I started earlier than that. I wear braids now.

***** Yes, however you decide to wear your hair while it grows out is definitely up to you. Do what you are most comfortable with. You do want to make sure you are taking care of her hair underneath and still keeping it moisturized. As you saw, I wore wigs for a while before I started doing braid outs.

yea, my hair is this texture as well. This hair Will have a clear CURL pattern if you know how to set it. If saturate with conditioner. Rinse, preferably with cool (without touching too much) just let the water run through your hair Leave some conditioner in the hair. Let it drip dry. NO towel drying at all. You will have clear and defined curls. I worked as a stylist in curly hair salon and I always had girls who would swear to me I will not get a natural curl from their hair. And they were all pleasantly surprised. All natural hair has a curl pattern.
