I love how you put your hair in so many different styles during your hair journey. For the most part every "Hair Journey" video I've watched has had safe, low/no heat hairstyles which included braids and buns...but you've went against the odds and experimented with so many styles LOVE IT!! :D
Beautiful! I like the fact that you showed pics from way back so other Naturals will know it takes time and patience to have long hair. Not just a one year thing. Very Encouraging. Thanks.
You win, my sistah! Whatever the award; whatever the category...YOU...WIN!!! I'm absolutely speechless (and that's sooo unlike me), but your hair is GORGEOUS! I just did the BC two weeks ago and your pics are just the inspiration I need to give my hair the "meticulous care" it deserves. Thank you for the pics and please know that you are in my prayers. God WILL restore your health! Peace and blessings...and continue to "grow" in grace!
I love this so much. You are truly showing us how proper care of our hair can reveal something so beautiful. It's all about proper care. Which many of us don't know. I have natural hair and find it's best to do as little to it. But i need more discipline. I turn 29 next week and this is one of my new resolutions. To be more disciplined and patient with my haircare.
You're absolutely right :) TY for taking the time to watch! I smile when I see and hear of more women of color loving their natural hair texture :) I am sure your daughter will love her hair as well b/c you love yours. This needs to be passed on for sure.
I have been natural for 6 months now and I was contemplating texturing my hair, but after seeing your video, I am so inspired. Thank you soooo much for posing your journey.
i watch ur videos just about every day to keep a happy face about my journey never really knew the lengths that black women could achieve in a reasonable time span its really a happy feeling!
What an inspiration you are! I am not a natural but negelcted my hair for years. I finally cut it into a short hairstyle last year and through proper hair care have seen very good growth. I'm looking for 2011 to be even more impressive. Thank you for sharing your hair jouney with us! Be blessed and happy growing!
I don't know how many times I have looked at this video. INSPIRATIONAL. I have have not used weave/extensions in my hair since for a month in a half. It has been a little difficult because I am used to using it, but I know my hair is thriving without it. This video is a prime example about using what you got and it flourished into long beautiful afro textured hair. Thank you!
You can do nice things with texturized hair as well. If you'd like to slowly transition maybe you can blow the roots to start training it for a looser curl while trimming ever so slightly as you go along. Before you know it you'll have fully natural hair. I have other suggs if interested. Ty so much for commenting!!
Incredibly inspirational!! Someone with hair like the rest of us able to achieve beautiful, long, healthy natural hair. Thank you for putting this photo journey together.
Hello Jen, "Nappy" is a state as in a current condition, not a hair type, so if your hair is nappy as in having naps and tangles then I sugg. you comb it.
Wow. You know, you've really inspired me to go natural. I had really THICK hair like yours, and it is now about 4 inches past my shoulders, but it is relaxed, dry, and brittle. This might be the video that makes me change my mind... Thanks for the inspiration!!!
That's amazing! I can't believe how long it grew, you've done a great job. Honestly, you've really inspired me to keep up my natural routine, I hope my hair can grow long and healthy with continued maintenance. Thanks!
sorry about the illness... glad you've made a recovery [and got in touch with yourself!] :) I love the progress... I'm *just* starting out, and am older, but looking forward to my own little follicular journey lol
Your hair is just thick, gorgeous, long, and inspirational! You have really done a great job, and I'm so inspired and ready to enjoy this natural hair journey like you did! Thanks for making this video!
yur hair grew soo much! Nd I just loveee how I can even see yu getiing older! Yur entire look changes as the pics go on! Yur face, yur hair styles, nd even the way yu r dressing changes!! GREAT VIDEO!!!!
Ty so much for the correction! Taking pics and seeing progress in the pics is what kept me going because sometimes when i look in the mirror I can't tell if my hair grew or not lol. I'm glad that your daughter is well now, ty again for the compliment! enjoy your weekend :)
Thanks for posting your journey... your hair is BEAUTIFUL!!! I've been natural for a little over a year and the summer is definitely gonna be a challenge. Your video is an inspiration!!!
anytime :) I am thankful that my mom took the time to do my hair back in the day and didn't complain and get fed up like others. I don't know why our own people say how hard it is to care for our hair when it's all we know of since that's how it grows from the scalp. Anywho, congrats!! I am sure you'll have no problem getting it back to where it was as a young child :D
Inspiration indeed!!!! I'm just learning how to care for my natural hair, hopefully by me watching each & every one of your videos I'll develop a successful regimen for my hair so that I too will retain healthy beautiful length like yourself.......
Wow your hair is so beautiful. I am amazed at how you kept it thick and even. I have noticed that some people even though then have length they have poor hair care practices and it results in thin ends. Keep up the good work you are a true inspiration. Although I am not going for WL, just APL or BSL but I hope to get there properly and have my hair just as thick and beautiful.
This video is beautiful and very encouraging. I've only been natural for 8 months and it's growing pretty fast. It's nice to see what I have to look forward to. :)
I'm more impressed with how healthy your hair looks. My hair is thick like yours too, and I look forward to getting to that length, but with all the different styles you try your hair is amazingly healthy and that's what I desire for my hair also. Hopefully I can learn something from you. Thanks so much for sharing.
Wow!!! What a journey! You and your hair are so beautiful!!!!!!!!!!! You don't understand what an inspiration this was to me. I am a newbie transitioner (only 2 months post) but I am done with relaxers and that damage it has done to my hair!!! Thanks for the motivation!!!
You're a beautiful girl and have amazingly beautiful hair! I love it! I just chopped off all of my hair--to the despair of my hubby (about 7 inches) and I can't wait to see my hair flourish when I take care of it! You're an inspiration girl!
how sweet of you to reply to almost all the comments and questions. But don't wear yourself out girl lol. I see we sometimes ask the same questions over again.... We are all inspired. Thank you for sharing :-)
By blowdrying. The more curls you have ini your hair the more knots. You can trim them off individually like I do from time to time but they will come back b/c your hair is curly. If you don't want to blow it, then make sure you always have your hair styled so that your ends aren't exposed. Gl
I'm drooling... I'm currently transitioning from relaxed to texlaxed but this vid makes me wanna go natural!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the versatility of wearing it natural or straight...
Ty soo much! It is very attainable. Meticulous care and being light handed is truly the key, not to mention listening to your hair so that you provide it with the right type of nutrients via shampoos and conditioners. gl dear
You look absolutely gorgeous! Love the hair! And natural too! Thanks for posting this. I too am growing my natural hair, hope my hairs looks anywhere are great as yours. :)
wow - rare to see such a long journey - I'm inspired! Wish I'd not texturized when my hair was getting quite long - now time to chop and start again. But will hopefully grow to your lengh :-) Beautiful!
WOW! You got me so inspired! I'm only on a year and a half mark bein natural and I've been gettin so discouraged about it! I was even thinkin of goin back to perms! But I told myself no ta stick it out... and you are a perfect example y! Love it!
Hey, I actually don't. The kicker is though, that I use ANY shampoo (dove, mane and tail, v05, pantene pro v, aussie, yes to carrots, sallys beauty supply brand etc.) My true motto and reason for making hair vids at all is to state that products dont actually grow hair, but depending on your hair products can make MANAGING your hair easier. I constantly switch products because most haven't been that special to re-purchase so I buy what's on sale. I am in the process of seeing what I can create.
You are truly blessed, but ppl need to realize that its really the texture of your hair that will depict how fast it grows-that and the amount of protein present in it.
LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is so beautiful and makes my eyes water up!!! I love the thickness and everything, so beautiful!! I hope I can achieve this in the next three years!
Wow, THANKYOU! i'm glad that you took the most important parts from the vid/s "patience and hard work". Congrats on the BC, I hope your hair thrives :)
Omg...your hair is SOO pretty. It looks so healthy and soft. I'm transitioning now about to bc next month. I strive to have health hair like yours and many others on here on youtube.
no protein. These are the ingredients from the site. •8 oz. •Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Mango Butter, Jojoba Butter, Aloe Butter, Essential and/or Fragrance Oils, Grapefruit Seed Oil & Vitamin E •99.4% Natural
im like a huge fan of yours lol b/c when i started thinking about going natural, i saw your vid and i was like " i got to get there, its possible with pacience and hard work" so i did it " the big chop" and im kinda liking it... being me all natural! i like it! Thankx for inspiring me.
Bravo I hate when people say that too. Well said! Most of us got a relaxer or a hot comb which still causes MAJOR DAMAGE to our hair when we were lil girls so of course our hair will not reach this length if this is getting done to it everyday..
Lovely! I get the impression that you did A LOT of protective styles. This is something I plan to do also. I especially love the styles at 3:47 and 4:06.
who said there was anything wrong with water based products? For thirtsy hair, oil based products are best because the moisture from oils last longer than the moisture from water. Oil based products last longer and go further for me as well.
Those 29 dislikes must not LOVE hair as much as I do! Your hair is BEAUTIFUL as well as you! I so admire your progress which only shows how beautiful our hair can be with care and patience! Thanks for the motivation! : )
try moisturizing your hair and not washing for a a lil while to get back some of the natural oils or maybe try a keratin treatment...but i'd really sugg moisturizinf it and leaving it alone for a while since i don't know how you stripped it. ty for the compliment, take care
Thanks for creating such a nice video. I'm sure it was time consuming, but I appreciate it so much! That style at the end was beautiful. Please do a tutorial on your styles where we can actually see you do it step by step. Thanks again
@DreaDevine protective styling is good but if you wanna retain lenght you need to wash your hair regularly And deep condition the hair for at least 30 min with a plastic cap at a regular basis like once a week. our hair needs moisture to grow, seal with oils or butters. just choose a low maintenace protective style that works for your hair. good luck ps if you have very dry or porous hair you may want to co-wash with a silicone free conditioner instead of shampoo it helped me retain lenght !
Its called transitioning. You stop relaxing and let your new growth come in natural. You can do this for as long as you want. You clip off the relaxed hair little by little or when your new growth is a length you can deal with then you can just cut off all the relaxed ends at the same time. Most people just clip off the relaxed hair little by little though. Hope that helps!
this was the first video i watched and made me make my decision to go natural! ur hair back in the day is like mine! so it motivated me! if your hair can turn out this amazing God willing my can as well! thanks for this video!

What is there to thumbs down about this video? Just a girl showing pics of growing out her hair. People never cease to puzzle and disgust me.
any time i feel discouraged about my hair growth, i come back and look at this. love it!

quite possibly the most beautiful hair i've laid my eyes on thus far. truly inspiring thanks for posting!
ugh, tell me about it. I didn't want to show the pics because of how horrific I looked, but it's all about the hair right...lol
Your hair is most definitely the business. You weren't playing with that growth! Really enjoyed the video :).
I went natural in February of this year. You give me a lot of inspiration. I hope that my hair grows as long as yours!!! You have beautiful hair!!
You can do nice things with texturized hair as well. the versatility of natural hair is astounding
Black hair is gorgeous!!! What an inspiration you are!!
You are the hair goddess. Seriously!! Beautiful.

You look absolutely gorgeous! Love the hair! And natural too! Thanks for posting this. I too am growing my natural hair, hope my hairs looks anywhere are great as yours. :)
I love how versatile natural black hair is. We can go from big hair one day to sleek and everything in between!

Just keep doing what you're doing and you have nothing but healthy hair to look forward to!
LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is so beautiful and makes my eyes water up!!! I love the thickness and everything, so beautiful!! I hope I can achieve this in the next three years!
You are very welcome, ty for checking them out
What i would have loved to see is the month and the year for each hairstyle to determine how long your hair took to reach a certain level.
Wow, THANKYOU!
i'm glad that you took the most important parts from the vid/s "patience and hard work". Congrats on the BC, I hope your hair thrives :)

I truly appreciate this, thank you so much.
May you be blessed as well
Thank you for sharing your natural hair journey. You are my inspiration.
My father is on predinsone now. I'm glad you are better. Beautiful hair and progress
You are still beautiful regardless of your thought to be imperfections(description box) AND YOU HAVE DONE A FABULOUS JOB WITH CARING FOR YOUR HAIR!
Bravo I hate when people say that too. Well said! Most of us got a relaxer or a hot comb which still causes MAJOR DAMAGE to our hair when we were lil girls so of course our hair will not reach this length if this is getting done to it everyday..

I especially love the styles at 3:47 and 4:06.
you are truly blessed girl....i have so much more hope
@ouckn
thanks :). I am well I appreciate the well wishes. I hope you're doing well too!!
Your hair looks fantastic. A black woman's hair is truly her crown in glory!

Your hair is beautiful, and to see the growth over the course of time is amazing. ov

Ty sooo much!!! :D
My hair goal is waist length, i'm expecting to be there by Feb. 2010 the latest...then hip length!
ty for watching
Lol, i'm sure it's not but I thank you sooo much! Np, ty for watching.
your hair is so beautiful, you're an inspiration to all the beautiful girls who want healthy long hair, keep up the good work(: LOVE this video(:
wow! I can't wait to finish my journey. My hair was somewhat like yours. Your hair is amazing!
Ty so much! I just checked out your page and you are KILLING those dresses. They're so pretty! You have nice hair as well :)
ty for watching, be well.
Its called transitioning. You stop relaxing and let your new growth come in natural. You can do this for as long as you want. lol, ty. My hair braider doesn't play!! I have to dig up the rest of they styles she's done for me.
im 7 months into my transition and its so hard to get use to doing my hair without a perm but ur my inspiration. thank you for the videos :)
it's just a braid out on blow dried hair. I'll do a braid otu tutorial when my hair is prepped for it in a month or so :)
Yes.. you definitely know when you're ready to be natural...no one can tell you, you have to feel it too.
gl on your journey and feel free to watch whenever you like lol.
i am on prednisone now, was on it in 07 but they took me off for a little while now im back on it. your hair grew beautifully over the years..thats crazy!
I am not predisposed to length since my hair only really grew once I cared for it. The thickness is the only thing that was genetically determined, but diet and chemicals can change the thickness of hair (ie lack of nutrition or relaxers can thin the hair temporarily or permanently).
Everyone I know with locs grow an amazing amount of hair in what seems to be no time! Gl on your journey and ty :)
good to hear ur feeling better. I have been looking for something like this. my hair has always been natural, but once in my life and im 20. when my mom passed away, as an only child, my hir began to break and im looking to get it back into shape. never shall i perm. thanks 4 the hope! jah bless
