What is there to thumbs down about this video? Just a girl showing pics of growing out her hair. People never cease to puzzle and disgust me.

I love how you put your hair in so many different styles during your hair journey. For the most part every "Hair Journey" video I've watched has had safe, low/no heat hairstyles which included braids and buns...but you've went against the odds and experimented with so many styles LOVE IT!! :D

Beautiful! I like the fact that you showed pics from way back so other Naturals will know it takes time and patience to have long hair. Not just a one year thing. Very Encouraging. Thanks.

You win, my sistah! Whatever the award; whatever the category...YOU...WIN!!! I'm absolutely speechless (and that's sooo unlike me), but your hair is GORGEOUS! I just did the BC two weeks ago and your pics are just the inspiration I need to give my hair the "meticulous care" it deserves. Thank you for the pics and please know that you are in my prayers. God WILL restore your health! Peace and blessings...and continue to "grow" in grace!

I love this so much. You are truly showing us how proper care of our hair can reveal something so beautiful. It's all about proper care. Which many of us don't know. I have natural hair and find it's best to do as little to it. But i need more discipline. I turn 29 next week and this is one of my new resolutions. To be more disciplined and patient with my haircare.

I smile when I see and hear of more women of color loving their natural hair texture :) I am sure your daughter will love her hair as well b/c you love yours.
This needs to be passed on for sure.

What an inspiration you are! I am not a natural but negelcted my hair for years. I finally cut it into a short hairstyle last year and through proper hair care have seen very good growth. I'm looking for 2011 to be even more impressive. Thank you for sharing your hair jouney with us! Be blessed and happy growing!

I don't know how many times I have looked at this video. INSPIRATIONAL. I have have not used weave/extensions in my hair since for a month in a half. It has been a little difficult because I am used to using it, but I know my hair is thriving without it. This video is a prime example about using what you got and it flourished into long beautiful afro textured hair. Thank you!

You can do nice things with texturized hair as well. If you'd like to slowly transition maybe you can blow the roots to start training it for a looser curl while trimming ever so slightly as you go along. Before you know it you'll have fully natural hair. I have other suggs if interested. Ty so much for commenting!!

    Hello Jen,
"Nappy" is a state as in a current condition, not a hair type, so if your hair is nappy as in having naps and tangles then I sugg. you comb it.

    anytime :)
I am thankful that my mom took the time to do my hair back in the day and didn't complain and get fed up like others. I don't know why our own people say how hard it is to care for our hair when it's all we know of since that's how it grows from the scalp.
Anywho, congrats!! I am sure you'll have no problem getting it back to where it was as a young child :D

Wow your hair is so beautiful. I am amazed at how you kept it thick and even. I have noticed that some people even though then have length they have poor hair care practices and it results in thin ends.
Keep up the good work you are a true inspiration. Although I am not going for WL, just APL or BSL but I hope to get there properly and have my hair just as thick and beautiful.

By blowdrying. The more curls you have ini your hair the more knots. You can trim them off individually like I do from time to time but they will come back b/c your hair is curly. If you don't want to blow it, then make sure you always have your hair styled so that your ends aren't exposed. Gl

Hey, I actually don't. The kicker is though, that I use ANY shampoo (dove, mane and tail, v05, pantene pro v, aussie, yes to carrots, sallys beauty supply brand etc.) My true motto and reason for making hair vids at all is to state that products dont actually grow hair, but depending on your hair products can make MANAGING your hair easier. I constantly switch products because most haven't been that special to re-purchase so I buy what's on sale. I am in the process of seeing what I can create.

Bravo I hate when people say that too. Well said! Most of us got a relaxer or a hot comb which still causes MAJOR DAMAGE to our hair when we were lil girls so of course our hair will not reach this length if this is getting done to it everyday..

try moisturizing your hair and not washing for a a lil while to get back some of the natural oils or maybe try a keratin treatment...but i'd really sugg moisturizinf it and leaving it alone for a while since i don't know how you stripped it.

@DreaDevine protective styling is good but if you wanna retain lenght you need to wash your hair regularly And deep condition the hair for at least 30 min with a plastic cap at a regular basis like once a week. our hair needs moisture to grow, seal with oils or butters. just choose a low maintenace protective style that works for your hair. good luck ps if you have very dry or porous hair you may want to co-wash with a silicone free conditioner instead of shampoo it helped me retain lenght !

Its called transitioning. You stop relaxing and let your new growth come in natural. You can do this for as long as you want. You clip off the relaxed hair little by little or when your new growth is a length you can deal with then you can just cut off all the relaxed ends at the same time. Most people just clip off the relaxed hair little by little though. Hope that helps!

I am not predisposed to length since my hair only really grew once I cared for it. The thickness is the only thing that was genetically determined, but diet and chemicals can change the thickness of hair (ie lack of nutrition or relaxers can thin the hair temporarily or permanently).
Everyone I know with locs grow an amazing amount of hair in what seems to be no time! Gl on your journey and ty :)
