How do you think this compares to the review you did a while ago against the Haircut and Shave company Efficient Ti-5. I remember you said the Efficient ti 5 was extremely efficient and also mild. How do you think this razor compares to the other? Great video by the way.
Great question! I actually think they perform very similarly now that you mention it. Unfortunately I can't do a side-by-side as I had borrowed the Efficient Ti-5.
Looks like a great razor. Sounds like one I might enjoy. Looks like you’ve lost weight there, dude. Enjoyed your comments about the razor. Happy holidays!
@@Latherhog Just did my first head shave with the Apex. Holy crap! Had about 4 days of thick growth and it absolutely mowed it down to BBS like a hot knife through butter. Got a couple small weepers and irritation in my usual trouble spots, but I’m chalking it up the blade I used being a bit too aggressive for my head and lack of experience with this level of efficiency. I can honestly say that this was the closest and easiest head shave I’ve experienced!
Thanks so much for the thorough review Jon! Really glad you're finding the design features to be as intended (low blade feel, plus to high efficiency, extensive clamping/ low chatter). Incidentally, I personally find the handle to resembled a racing tire tread this time around, rather than a grenade/ rebar. But regarding the inspiration, it was mostly clean, streamlined contours like a luxury car, and then the tire tread motif on the handle, while also trying to preserve the Aylsworth 'look'.
It definitely has less blade feel than the Blackbird Ti, but as far as efficiency, while its not the same, it does come awfully close. Hope that helps!
How it performs in against the grain pass? Does it provide irritation free shave? Can it be a daily driver? I have a drakkant with plus plate and I found it a bit aggressive for me.
Performance was great, no issues with the against the grain pass for me. If you found the Plus Plate aggressive, you may find the Apex aggressive as well.
How does the Apex compare to the Blackland Blackbird or the Rec Envoy? Thank you, I usually shave every 4 to 5 days. So I like efficiency and smoothness. Great video too.
Thanks for the video-as others have stated, Something you do exceptionally well is contextualizing the razor by comparing it to other razors-an essential to evaluative judgements. I know this isn't an apple-apple comparison, but let me also echo my desire of an Overlander Vs. Apex shootout!
Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad to hear you find the comparisons helpful! There's more than enough interest in an Overlander vs. Apex video, so that'll be coming up soon!
I see that the Apex and the Drakkant + plate have the same specs. In your opinion, what are the differences in the way they shave? It seems like you prefer the Apex since it replaced the Drakkant in your top ten razor list.
I had my first shave with the APEX just this morning, and you’re right! Unlike with the Blackbird, I needed an additional touch-up pass after my standard 3-pass routine to get comparable results. Was smooth as butter though! Will surely be adding this to my razor rotation 👍🏽
Great vid, Jon! I would definitely be interested in a shootout between the Apex and the Overlander - they’re both razors I’m eyeing at the moment. If I remember correctly, you had previously compared the Drakkant+ to the Game Changer 89p, correct? Would it be accurate then to say the Apex maintains that comparative efficiency with less blade feel?
Thanks Rei! I would agree with that statement, that the the Apex maintains comparable efficiency with less blade feel than both the Drakkant Plus and the Game Changer .84.
I’ve watched several of your videos and I noticed not all razors give you a close shave , this on definitely does. I’ve watched ken’s video too and you can see that this razor is a lawnmower, at first I didn’t think I would buy it because it looks similar to the drakkant which I own but now I think I’ll get it
Overlander vs Apex shootout!!
Great review John. The Apex is a great razor. This razor has jumped to the top of my favourites list. Love it.
Thanks Marko, glad to hear that this is a favorite razor for you!
Another excellent review Jon! I always like when you compare the razor you're reviewing to other razors out there, It's very helpful! Thanks, Lindsay💈
Thanks for watching Lindsay!

Please do a comparison with the Overlander 🙏
Is the Apex more efficient than the Konsul?
Yes, I would say so
This is an outstanding razor my best shaver so far. Absolutely amazing
Glad to hear you enjoy the APEX razor as well!
Looks like a great razor. Sounds like one I might enjoy. Looks like you’ve lost weight there, dude. Enjoyed your comments about the razor. Happy holidays!
Thanks for watching and yes, I've been losing weight over this past year, aiming to be healthier overall! Happy Holidays to you as well!
That looks like a terrific razor.
Thanks Patrick, I've really enjoyed my shaves with the Apex!
Just ordered it! Thank you for finally answering my question of how it compares to an Overlander!
Hope you enjoy the razor!

Is the Apex made in the same factory as the Kopparkant ?
@shanedm3396 Yes it is!
@@aylsworthshaves8717 Awesome. I really enjoy the Kopparkant.
Please do a shootout between the Overlander and the Apex! This video has me considering the two but only going to go with one.
Nice video Jon! That sounds like a winning combination! Nice to see more options playing in the mild/medium category and pushing efficiency
Thanks BLou, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on this razor!
Incredible review as always!! Now the question I have ... how does it compare to the Blackbird Ti?
It definitely has less blade feel than the Blackbird Ti, but as far as efficiency, while its not the same, it does come awfully close. Hope that helps!
That definitely helps! So, would you say it's probably along the same lines as the Blackbird Lite? @@Latherhog
Titanium BB still #1?
Yes it is!
Just ordered it and can’t wait to try it out!

word on the street is that its as efficient as the blackbird but smoother and less blade feel
The Blackbird still has the edge as far as efficiency, but I'd say the Apex comes pretty darn close in that department!

I would say the efficiency of the Apex is what puts it over the Drakkant + for me.
Excellent shave friend, that Apex razor looks great, with what level of blade smoothness of the Rockwell 6c would you compare it?🤔
I would say this is closest to the 6 plate, that being said, I enjoy the performance of the Apex over the Rockwell.
Great review Jon, love the look of the APEX, and can’t wait for mine to show up. Have a great weekend!
Thank you for watching JMac, appreciate your support!
@@Latherhog you’re most welcome Jon!
Great review Jon! In terms of efficiency, how does it compare to a Blackbird?
I would say its less efficient than the Blackbird, but it comes close, especially when considering how mild in feel the Apex is!

@@karankaval6745 That’s great to hear!
Nice review Jon! Is the handle thicker than Drakkant SS? Looks like on pic but no stats on website.
So I checked with Aylsworth on this and he said the Apex has a .5 inch diameter while the Drakkant has a .45 inch diameter at its thinnest.
@@Latherhog thanks for checking! Personally I would prefer the thicker size but the drakkant looks a bit better imo. Both look cool.
Good choice!
I think so too!
Great vid, Jon!

Owning both the Overlander and Apex I can without a doubt say that the Apex has way more efficiency than the Overlander and I absolutely love it

Please do a shootout between the overlander and apex ! ❤ to see that
Great review! What plate are you using here? I must have missed it.
Thanks, there's only one plate for the Apex razor!
Sucks about the lather. Mine did the same thing. Wouldn’t lather and I was very disappointed. Great scent.
Mmmm….low blade feel with great efficiency? I think you just spent my Christmas money!!
I think holding a maple leaf brier would be neat!
