    Nice shave and review Matt! You nailed it with the goals for this razor. Being our entry offering we wanted it to be forgiving but still efficient. I think a Henson or Merkur is a fair comparison. Our stainless steel Apex comes with a plus level gap and exposure and is probably more in your wheelhouse. Have a great weekend!

    Aylsworth and Yates's razors are better performers than any razor made by Razor Emporium or Blackland. Apex provides a cleaner shave and no irritation, making it easier to achieve BBS in a relatively minimal amount of passes

    Im in the camp of running water to clean off the razor while shaving. I agree it helps clear up the shave cream better.

    A Henson ad on YT got me into traditional wet shaving. I like Henson because it’s made in Canada supporting North American jobs. I agree rinsing under a tap is better than swishing.

    I just got the apex SS from you and it is incredible. Matched with an astra green from Russia I get the best saves. Love the SS razor! Hard not to use every day, but I binged on some great razors, so I am rotating daily, with the Astra green I could use the apex SS daily, the apex SS just an incredible razor.

    I have both the aluminum and the SS version of the Apex. The aluminum version is definitely a daily driver, automatic way more forgiving razor where the SS version isn't (both have difference blade gaps and exposures)

    I would like to see Matt use some of the Timeless razors. I know they have an aluminum slant that is pretty awesome and more affordable than either the Henson or Aylsworth, so it might be interesting to see an offering from another American-centered brand that produces some awesome high-end razors.

    Although i still have 2 aluminum AL-15s i hardly ever use them. I like my Konsul and my Brass Merica razor way better.

    Matt, rinsing under hot water is what I have always done! Why?:
    RINSING UNDER RUNNING HOT WATER IS THE BEST WAY TO KEEP YOUR RAZORS CLEAN! IN MY OPINION! I DO NOT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT SOAP AND WHISKER BUILD UP ON YOUR RAZORS!
    After each use, I wipe each part of my disassembled razor with a clean. dry cloth and let air dry for several hours before reassembly.

    Great video Matt!! Going from your review, looks great for someone who has a light beard. It has its place, i think that’s a great thing about wet shaving, I can honestly tell you this razor isn’t for me, but it’s for someone;)

    Love the video as always, Matt. Thanks for the sale you're doing on Razor Emporium. It made me finally cave and buy an ambassador with a stand and a bunch of trial shave soaps. I'm hoping there are a few scents I like.

    Good info Mild is good for people who do not have thought thick Beard.
    Running water removes gunk better then sloshing in a bowl of water.

    Greetings, I appreciate all the helpful information and tips you always provide, I have been "old school" wet shaving for about 5 years and I thoroughly enjoy the experience, I also have been using a straight razor shavette, I now feel I'm ready to level up to using a regular straight razor, I know you have done videos on how to use them and properly sharpen the blade in the past, however I was wondering if you do an update on demonstrating the proper use of straight razors, I already looked in on purchasing my first straight razor from Razor Emporium thanks!

    Now he needs to try the much more aggressive Apex SS.

    Always interesting. But I do not see a need for anything but my Gillette Slim. I can dial down to mild any time I feel like it you refinished it about a decade ago and it still looks and works great.

    Well, that small circle that fell out at the start makes it a 4 piece razor and a very shitty one too! Imagine losing that in your sink drain.

      Aylsworth just uses the ring for shipping, and the packaging says not to use it for shaving so you can get maximum thread engagement. But when testing a razor, especially a colored one, it's nice to know you won't mark up any part of it.

    Matt did you try the SS version of the Apex? If not you should. It is more in your wheelhouse as far as efficiency. It reminds me of an Overlander on steroids. A bit Bigger gap, more efficient and very good blade clamping - smooth. YMMV. I just bought one from RE and have a few shaves on it.

    Hey Matt! Nice shave! Question.....does the apex come in different colors? or is it just the blalck and green? Love the channel! and thank you for the revamp of my fatboy! came out amazing! Thank you and best wishes. Joe.

    Great shave Matt. Aluminium made razors are in rage these days. Is it safe to assume that almost all of them would be CNC machined?
    Thanks for watering the tree, do share a pic or two.

    Hey I’m using Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream - it dries out too quickly when I’m shaving and also leaves my skin really dry afterwards.
    Can you recommend a really slippery shave cream that’s not got any artificial chems in it preferably

      Consider getting a continuous spraying mister. They're super cheap and most people who try one end up using them as a regular part of their routine.

      Work a little more water into it or try a Barrister and Mann soap which does take a lot more water but you will be rewarded. Good luck.

    Another honest review. But will a newbie really spend $70 when there are many mild safety razors for half (or less) the price? The Vikings Blade Chieftain Jr. for $12.50 comes to mind.

  • @Rood67
    @Rood67 22 дні тому +2

    I like your videos; yet, I have one minor issue with your wording. Unless someone makes really good money, and doesn’t live somewhere that a dozen eggs are north of $5.00 US - a $70.00 razor is not an intro.
    A $18.00 Wilkinson Sword is a true intro.
    A $30.00 Parker could be an intro.
    A Merkur at $34.00 may still be considered an intro.
    Anything beyond Costco / SAMS price for a cartridge bundle in this economy is getting into the realm of being serious with wet shaving, when factoring in the need for soap, brush, blades - all the things you put together in your Target wet shaving intro pack video.
    So maybe the better wording would be, you’ve tried wet shaving and you’re ready to step up from your less expensive intro razor to something well designed and tighter tolerances in manufacturing.

      When you can get blades for a few cents a piece, and the handle will last two liftimes if not dropped or damaged. Yes the initial cost may be higher. But in the long run you are throwing money away with the costco pack.

    • @Rood67
      @Rood67 22 дні тому

      @@salvadorsantos315 very true. My original point was, when I started a decade ago, I got a $19.95 Pawn Stars at Bed Bath and Beyond because I didn’t know what to expect and didn’t want to spend close to $100.00 on a whim and chance.
      Only afterwards did I start getting a quality brush, blades, soap, and razor. So, for someone debating the change in today’s economy, the cost should to be close or less than what they are currently willing to pay.
      But as you said and I agree, $100.00 for something that will last a lifetime is a good investment. We just need to get them to that point first.

      A few guys I know started with a Merkur 34c and it's around 45$ now. That is a ridiculous price for that razor. For 10$ more I could have gotten a Razorock Game Changer in stainless steel. I wish I knew more at the time.

  • @Unknowntyper
    @Unknowntyper 20 днів тому +3

    It looks like a rip off of the Henson and it's a four-piece razor with an exceedingly small piece that is definitely not going to be lasting around and hanging out at the life of the razor...
    I shouldn't have said "rip-off", but rather "economic copy". Definately not trying to rip on the company or the channel 👋

      The washer piece is only there for storage during shipping. It's not meant to be kept and used, but it can be if you choose. Some people choose to use washers to avoid marks on the razor from tightening.
