How to make Fallout truly terrifying? Downloaded a script heavy mod. Then uninstall it mid playthrough, if your game is still running, I guarantee every last save file is corrupt. EVERT. LAST. ONE.
@@josezenil2806 I found fallout 4 crashes like that if you change options manually instead of with the presets. So I would recommend deleting the fallout 4 ini files and when launching the game just choose a preset if you want to change that from the recommended settings the game chooses. I couldn't get my game to work either and that seemed to fix it on my end.
I remember when I downloaded Zombie Walkers. I was streaming for a friend after I downloaded a ton of mods. When I was reinforcing a new settlement, I saw a figure slowly walking at me from the dark forest. I was like “okay, nothing bad.” Then about 40 walkers sprinted at full speed through the trees to me and I screeched at the top of my lungs

Noname That's not really a good counter point, a lot of VR games have some way of making the motion sickness less. FO4 VR and Skyrim VR are just a Frankenstein version of the original game that they taped the coding for VR accessibility on.
It's hard to invoke the feeling of helplessness that horror games go for when you have power armor and automatic weapons, but I appreciate what you're trying to do here. Nice list
This is more of a "do it cause you want to not cause you have to" type of thing, sure you can run around in power armor all day long, an IV of chems running through you as you fling lead with an overmodified AR, that does take some fun out of it. But of course, it's your choice on if you want to have this experience. You can make yourself a weak, scared character, just trying to make it day by day, or you can be an overlord putting other people in that scared position. That's the great thing about Fallout, you really can write your experience via how you play.

You could just turn off the HUD , and you'll know when a limbs broken when you walk slow and when your aim sways And I don't know if that's a good idea , fallout 4 is a action rpg , a lot of stats effect your health , it's useful to know when you have a debuff or when you suck up to many rads. The amount of immersion you get has to be higher than the utility of the function.

yeah i've been using darker nights with 24/7 mode, and gloomy weather, also wotc with massive groups of ghouls, it was pretty scary but my guns were too op so id 1 shot almost all of them so i had to download REST and a few gun ballistic overhauls to make it more realistic

Gentle suggestion: when illustrating am audio mod, like squeaky doors, terrifying ghouls, and whispering hills, you might take a moment to stop talking so your viewers can actually hear the sound effects. I could not hear a single one of these sound effects clearly because your voice was drowning them out. Obviously you need to talk in these videos, but audio mods need a moment of vocal silence app they can be heard. This is just a bit of constructive criticism. Thanks for your efforts.

@JuiceHead i would highly recommend, More Feral Ghouls. A Zombie Mod by Oynlen. It's a mod that add new and unique feral ghoul enemies and models for original feral ghouls there is a patch for it makes it compatible with Zombie Walkers.
@@yourmom9200 I fixed CTDs that I could find. One report I left open says "general CTD", which is not a very helpful report. When I use the mod I don't get CTD but there were some previously that were repeatable and I was able to fix them. Look at any popular mod, most have bug reports but a lot of those are from people that are having mod conflicts. Still I cant say that the mod is perfect. just for me it seems to work. So many possible variables. You are correct on the dismemberment though. If I had the patience I would start over and go for a better quality rather than quantity.Adding in like 110 new ghoul models was very time consuming. I would instead use actual ghouls and just give them different clothings.
A mod that adds a chance for your gun to jam and when it jams it takes a few seconds to unjam it would make it pretty scary in a situation where you're shooting at ghouls for example
Well this has just given me the idea for the best FO4 run I've ever done - all of these mods, together with both Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine mods! Two Blood Angel Space Marines, both with jump packs, one with a bolter pistol and chainsword and one with a power sword or Thunder Hammer! And with all the zombie-related overhauls, you can get a tiny Nurgle vibe. THE EMPEROR PROTECTS!!!
I actually did something similar! Zombie walkers, survival only, maximum spawns, and Space Marine armor. It was fantastic. One thing you gotta do if you do this: change the bolter sound! The one in the excellent Space Marine mod is watered down heavily thanks to GW, and as such the bolters don't have a lot of punch. It's not a hard thing to switch the sound out for one that makes it closer to how bolters actually should sound.
Someone needs to make a mod that makes ghouls look like clickers from the last of us, that was my favorite game. I know there's a mod that makes them sound like clickers.
Nothing scares me more then chuckling at a feral that’s 200 meters away and turning my back to loot for one second just to turn around and have it lunging at my face.
Always loved the Zombie Walkers mod, I combine it with the dismemberment ones to have crawlers and such. Everytime I walk into the city or any populated area, there's always a 4 way battle between Raiders, Supermutants, Brotherhood of Steel and the Dead fighting each other. I always set it to headshots only for a Romero-esque feel.

@ER - 07DG - Robert H Lagerquist Sr PS (1473) PILGRIM is a very dark and horror based ENB/mod that overhauls the sounds and visuals of the game, adding random screams and whispers through the nights, a horror based sound track including lots of ambience. Personally, it's my favorite mod for the game.
Yknow a very simple mod that could make the game a little more stressful would literally just be putting a limit on how much ammo you can hold of any type at any time (ex. You can have 50 shotgun shells and 150 assault rifle ammo)
playing on survival with somewhat realistic carry weight is like this. I couldn't really justify taking more than that much ammo in a bunch of cases because that's just less loot to bring back.
I did a play through with these mods, after level 35 I couldn’t go to diamond city because it would crash. So I decided to go and do Nuka World and Far harbor. (Edit: went to nuka first) I completed the gauntlet, and found all the NPC’s were now zombies when I got out. Reloaded a previous save, and clipped through a wall. Found out that zombies spawn the whole time and the NPCs don’t fight back. This made it more challenging to do nuka world and the whispering hills made completing nuka world almost impossible because of random crashes. All in all 9/10 experience would recommend these mods.
I though that reload animation on the shotgun was pretty awesome until I saw that it happens every time you reload and doing that with a shotgun that isnt completely empty would cause it to jam.

I like the Clickerfied ghouls mod for the ghoul audio. Makes them sound like clickers for *another* zombie game. Also installing a mod that make ammo rarer also helps!!
Having a mod called "The World Is Dying" is a nice touch to this because less ammo, caps, and aid items will spawn as loot and it makes you need to conserve ammo ect.
Honnestly with those mods you made somewhat of a fallout 4,the walking dead, and silent hill crossover and i love it Edit: okay i took up the challenge and downloaded the silent hill mod and set the amount of enemys spawn to the max and oh my god when i herd that siren i freaked the f*ck out lol
I bought this game when it first came out, it’s 2019 I’m level 133 and I haven’t chosen a definitive faction to join. But my settlements are impressive.
With Zombie Walkers, you can also set it to spawn even MORE zombies during rad storms. I enabled this when i had max zombie count and a couple other settings, hordes of 50 zombies spawning every where i looked. It turned downtown Boston into something like Dead Rising 1's parking garage under the mall. Definitely an "oh no" moment for me.

Whispering Hill has been updated. During Otherworld attacks, it now also spawns Twinscreamers, feral dogs and Bobblehead Nurses from the Silent Hill series. The noises the twinscreamers make terrifies me.
Heads up, The Zombie mod can be game breaking since it respawns dead enemies and randomly spawns hords of zombies. Especially if you have the Realistic Weather mod with Goul radiation storms on. Caused lots of lag.
To be honest, I think that the default feral ghoul sound is more terrifying. There's just something scary about a zombie jumping at you with a mid-high pitched scratchy screech.
It's eerily appropriate for a siren to be the signal you're entering the "other world" in a game about nuclear war. Like the zombies you're fighting when you're there are actually the people who died in the initial blast.
My issue with mods that add a lot of fog or atmospheric stuff is how it interacts with the lighting in the game. Nothing hurts more than walking in the dead of night and having your screen totally washed out and oversaturated with fog, regardless of whether or not you have a flashlight out.
What scares me the most is a mod that makes Preston always teleport behind you whenever a settlement needs help

I recommend flood audio for ghouls since this mode replaces the ghoul sounds with floods combat form sounds from halo which is TERRIFYING

You are correct on the dismemberment though. If I had the patience I would start over and go for a better quality rather than quantity.Adding in like 110 new ghoul models was very time consuming. I would instead use actual ghouls and just give them different clothings.
A mod that adds a chance for your gun to jam and when it jams it takes a few seconds to unjam it would make it pretty scary in a situation where you're shooting at ghouls for example

Well this has just given me the idea for the best FO4 run I've ever done - all of these mods, together with both Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine mods!
Two Blood Angel Space Marines, both with jump packs, one with a bolter pistol and chainsword and one with a power sword or Thunder Hammer!
And with all the zombie-related overhauls, you can get a tiny Nurgle vibe.

I actually did something similar! Zombie walkers, survival only, maximum spawns, and Space Marine armor. It was fantastic.
One thing you gotta do if you do this: change the bolter sound! The one in the excellent Space Marine mod is watered down heavily thanks to GW, and as such the bolters don't have a lot of punch. It's not a hard thing to switch the sound out for one that makes it closer to how bolters actually should sound.

Always loved the Zombie Walkers mod, I combine it with the dismemberment ones to have crawlers and such.
Everytime I walk into the city or any populated area, there's always a 4 way battle between Raiders, Supermutants, Brotherhood of Steel and the Dead fighting each other.
I always set it to headshots only for a Romero-esque feel.

Yknow a very simple mod that could make the game a little more stressful would literally just be putting a limit on how much ammo you can hold of any type at any time (ex. You can have 50 shotgun shells and 150 assault rifle ammo)
playing on survival with somewhat realistic carry weight is like this. I couldn't really justify taking more than that much ammo in a bunch of cases because that's just less loot to bring back.
I recommend PILGRIM - Dread the Commonwealth too!

I have had whispering hills in my load order permanently (I'm a huge silent hill fan) it's the one mod I always download.

I did a play through with these mods, after level 35 I couldn’t go to diamond city because it would crash. So I decided to go and do Nuka World and Far harbor. (Edit: went to nuka first) I completed the gauntlet, and found all the NPC’s were now zombies when I got out. Reloaded a previous save, and clipped through a wall. Found out that zombies spawn the whole time and the NPCs don’t fight back.
This made it more challenging to do nuka world and the whispering hills made completing nuka world almost impossible because of random crashes.
All in all 9/10 experience would recommend these mods.
Watches video, thinks “ooh maybe I’ll reinstall fallout this looks amazing.” Then remembers, “I have a PS4.... nevermind”.
I though that reload animation on the shotgun was pretty awesome until I saw that it happens every time you reload and doing that with a shotgun that isnt completely empty would cause it to jam.
I can't imagine being juicehead and having to test these mods

I like the Clickerfied ghouls mod for the ghoul audio. Makes them sound like clickers for *another* zombie game. Also installing a mod that make ammo rarer also helps!!

Having a mod called "The World Is Dying" is a nice touch to this because less ammo, caps, and aid items will spawn as loot and it makes you need to conserve ammo ect.

With Zombie Walkers, you can also set it to spawn even MORE zombies during rad storms. I enabled this when i had max zombie count and a couple other settings, hordes of 50 zombies spawning every where i looked. It turned downtown Boston into something like Dead Rising 1's parking garage under the mall. Definitely an "oh no" moment for me.

Whispering Hill has been updated. During Otherworld attacks, it now also spawns Twinscreamers, feral dogs and Bobblehead Nurses from the Silent Hill series. The noises the twinscreamers make terrifies me.
This with the fortifacations mod makes it seem like a whole new war. Caltrops, sandbag things. Snipers nests.

Heads up, The Zombie mod can be game breaking since it respawns dead enemies and randomly spawns hords of zombies. Especially if you have the Realistic Weather mod with Goul radiation storms on. Caused lots of lag.

To be honest, I think that the default feral ghoul sound is more terrifying. There's just something scary about a zombie jumping at you with a mid-high pitched scratchy screech.
Kind of hard for it to be even slightly scary when you got feral ghouls screaming "did you say chocolate, CHOCOLATE!"

FO4 Ghoul fighting sim with zero visibility
It's eerily appropriate for a siren to be the signal you're entering the "other world" in a game about nuclear war. Like the zombies you're fighting when you're there are actually the people who died in the initial blast.
My issue with mods that add a lot of fog or atmospheric stuff is how it interacts with the lighting in the game. Nothing hurts more than walking in the dead of night and having your screen totally washed out and oversaturated with fog, regardless of whether or not you have a flashlight out.
