I think it deserves a pro tag, I just got one for my A7III, and it's working great, snappy AF, sharp images, and no ca, and no breathing for video shooting.

This Meike lens looks great, especially with its metal build. It kind of reminds me of TTArtisan’s lenses-I’ve been using their 50mm f/1.2, and it’s such a fun lens for creative shots. Would love to see them release more Pro lenses like this!

Meike is very good in the center, but the contrast is low in the corner. Contrast can be compensated in software, but sharpness will be more tricky to fix. I've made some profiles in the past to fix the shortcomings of my weaker lenses, but it only gets you so far. For me personally sharpness mid frame is important because middle of the frame is just a tiny dot and you rarely have your focal points of the picture exactly in the middle. Sony 50 1.4 GM is still one of the best lenses out there and one of the top 5 sharpest lenses for FF cameras. The question is how does it stack vs other glass for sony like Zeiss, Samyang or Sigma for example. They cost less than the GM and they're also available second hand, so the competition may be more interesting.
Yes, it deserves a Pro tag. I've just bought this, together with the 85 1.8Pro, in Z mount. Both perform beyond my expectation. I don't think the plastic barrel makes it feel cheap. Just look at the Lumix, or even Nikon Z lenses, they are also plasticy.
I have a hard time choosing Meike, Yongnuo, Rokinon, Samyang, etc.. Always seems to be a compromise. Even the Tamron lenses I've tried all seem to have a distinct green flare.. My personal opinion. Save up and buy a good condition, pre-owned Sigma lens. Never been disappointed and often prefer them over the Sony lenses.
I made videos about Sony FE ua-cam.com/video/8XdL80rniBQ/v-deo.html and 7artisans ua-cam.com/video/RjzuhwGtK8M/v-deo.html I think so far this Meike lens is the best when it comes to image quality, flares, AF and also build quality.
I kinda liked this one a bit more @@808islandlife_HI the Viltrox 50mm I think came out couple of years ago and at the time Viltrox lenses were not as good as now.
7artisans 85mm 1.8 a better option, cheaper price and better built and performance. Tried both 50mm and 85mm from 7artisans e mount and the outputs and colors are better especially comparing it to their meike 55mm 1.4 that we also have.
Hmm interesting. I wish 7artisans and Meike had a bit better Quality Control in their factories. I keep bumping into weird things from both of these manufacturers (like hard to put the lens on the camera, hard to remove lens hood, too loose aperture rings etc). But if your copy is good - I am very happy to hear that.
Does this lens deserve the "PRO" tag? YES/NO 👇

I use this for weddings mostly because it’s light and the 55mm focal length is something I’m comfortable with.
Is it better than sony 55mm zeis ?
