from someone who lurks in the shadows and never really comments, your videos are a staple of mine whenever I want to nerd out on some gear or as part of research. Thanks so much for all your work and hope you can continue in the years to come.
Your channel is the one place I always go to when looking for a lens review, I love the standardized format you did so it's very easy to compare between lenses. Here's to another great year!! ❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for all the tests you do year after year and share with us. I don't want to be a Patreon, but I'll leave you something here anyway. I hope your channel continues for many years to come.
Thank you! Was looking forward to this video! I would love to see some retro/modern comparison videos. (Old EF 24-105 to RF 24-105, for example)… also just for fun!
Thank you Christopher for all the great lens reviews you did this year ! I waited for this video the whole year...and now we have it. Awesome. Have some nice Christmas days with your family and take some days off from work and lens testing. Recover from all the stress and then we all looking forward for some great lens reviews in 2025.
Even if it isn't the absolute best in all categories, love that the Canon 24-105 f.28 holds up so well in so many ways. Overall my personal pick for best lens of 2024!
Thank you Chris. I started photography this year after buying my first camera, and bought several lenses based upon your reviews. (And of course i haven't been disappointed!)
11:25 I appeared in a CF video for a bunch of seconds, yay! Now I wonder if the XF version of the GFX 500mm f/5.6 will win the award again next year! I say "again" since they supposedly have the same optical formula.
We are now to the point where the interesting lens are not for the RF mount, and they no longer care to make an EF mount version either. Thank you for the reviews sir!
Fujifilm 60mm f2.4. I had specific set of requirements and that lens is the diamond in the rough that filled them. I searched for reviews on the 60mm with a silent prayer. I celebrated when I found you had given one a go. Thank you!
This was a very enjoyable video, thank you for your work and your kind words in the end. Your voice and your way of expressing your thoughts on the lenses make every new video of yours like a comfortable safe space. Thanks big time!
I'd love to see a head to head between the Sigma 28-105 f2.8 compared directly against the Nikon Z 24-120 f4 s. The Nikon was last tested on the old test chart!
Thanks for your work. It is really intensive. But it could be really good if you add another segment, 'Best Budget Lens under $1000,' which further adds sharpest, innovative, widest, telephoto zoom, etc.
I absolutely loved my minidisc players. Tiny sturdy players, great sound quality, easy to make mixtapes, essentially skipfree, what more can you say. They were just the best!
@@christopherfrost Yes. Correct. I don't do video so didn't consider that. Choose glass first is exactly why I didn't buy the M50. No super zoom by Canon nor anyone else. Looked dead in the water the day it was released! Waited until 2022 and went from 600D + Tamron18-270 to RP + RF24-240 and lost nothing. Crop from FF 26MP better IQ than APS-C 18MP @270 x 1.6 effective! Must say the in lens correction for jpegs is a game winner for me.
I got the impression Mr. Frost did not like the Canon 24-105 2.8 in his original review, one of the reasons I passed on it. In video his casts it in a more favorable light. I personally don't mind a heavy lens but image quality issues at 24mm I do have a problem with.
This one of the best review channels on UA-cam, thanks for your great work! About the Meike 85mm 1.8, I've got one and, aside from some decentering, I found it to be a very good portrait lens, with more pleasing results than my "old" Viltrox 85mm 1.8. The autofocus on my A7RIII became way better with the latest firmware.
🤣😂 (these are all jokes Chris. just so you know) Fanboy here! So fanboy gotta fanboy! so lemme fanboy! I don't know what's worst the fact that you said that Canon 24-105 f/2.8 didn't win the lens of the year, the fact that you didn't show the 24-105 (that's the 70-200mm f/2.8), or the fact that that lens came out in 2023 (I got one of the first copies). It's still more balanced than the 28-70 G-Master lens! So lemme put on my fanboy hat and blame the actual weight on other things like not working out!
The minidisc video was a fun watch for me! I think there's potential in a CF style "Technology Connections" channel! Would make the tedium of morning traffic more enjoyable. 😂
0:55 Ha ha! Love it. This has got to be a circa-1990s Japanese dictionary word-for-word translation of the phrase: « No dumping of garbage here (etc.) ». Memories of my time there… 😅
Thank you, Christopher! It was entertaining to look over the fence to see what is happening in neighbors' gardens. But honestly as a lay person who owns one camera brand (Fuji) and is looking to the awards as a way to find the best lens for me in every focal length, I was disappointed to see such a jumbled mess of various brands and categories. I mean it's fun to see some bokelitious lenses out of curiosity but Nikon for 13 thousand dollars or GFX lenses are not really relevant to somebody with FX mount. I would have loved to see what are the best available options among wide and tele zoom lenses and wide, standard, portrait and tele primes for my brand, perhaps with categories for budget and splurging. Also, awards 2024 does not have to be limited to lenses than came out in 2024, because what's relevant is what is the best available, and it is actually curious to see if any old kings still reign, or if any new-comers have demoted them this year.
Chris you are by far the most thorough and trustworthy lens reviewer there is! Thank you for all the videos, it's really helpful for the entire photography community. Keep up the amazing work
I also lost the most money on your MiniDisc videos. I'd been wanting to get into the format and it was the shove off the cliff that I needed. I bought a Sony player and a crate of miscellaneous discs that had some great listens!
Hello mr Frost. I'm not native speaker, so excuse my english. Genuine question here. With lots of cameras and lenses you have been testing along you photography life/career, if you had to choose 1 lens+1 compact body for street/everyday photography what would be them? I bought the 28-105 Sigma lens and im so incredibly happy with its performance. It really did deserve the best lens award.
Thank you Christopher, may God bless you.
Chris, you put a clip of the Canon 70-200 instead of the 24-105 f2.8 in the beginning
Oops! Haha, they look almost exactly the same.
Yes and then wrote 24-105 for the zoom category. but doesnt really matter :) great job !
You've had a fantastic year, Seasons greeting to you and your family, all the very best for 2025!

Supports the policy of choose your glass first and then your body!
I've used zooms for 40 years. Then I only need one lens!
I agree (unless you're doing a lot of video work, then the body is a bit more relevant of course)

The lens of my heart this year?
Voigtlander Nokton RF 40mm F1.2 !
I am not the only friend of this little champion.
Awesome list. Do you think that the Sigma 8-16mm still compares well to any of the ultra wide angle lenses this year?
It is an old lens, so there will be some issues.
It's such an old lens now, wide angle lenses are generally much sharper nowadays

Hello Christopher, is there a reason why when you talk about the Canon 24-105 f 2.8 L IS USM Z, you show images of the 70-200? Minute 1:36
As I mentioned down in the comments, it was just a mistake
But I just got my Fuji 60mm macro a couple weeks ago... 🤔

There won't be reviews during the whole December? It's still November, why are we wishing Christmas things 😅
Poor Fuji missed the boat, the new Fuji 16-55 f2.8 WR II comes out tomorrow.
