This is the first video where I paid money 🤑to put subtitles for my video because so many of you requested subtitles! Make sure to turn that cc ON :) I know this video isn't the most chronologically ordered (although I really tried my best) because I filmed my vlog > went to korea for 2 months > came back and realized the old footage didn't capture the FULL story of my leaving. I'm hoping to cover more in my 2nd video so stay tuned!
I think you are brave for making the decision to quit and then go back. I would love to hear your experience at Facebook as I aim to work there! Thank you for your contents!!!
@@chunbuns It would be awesome if you are able to tell us how long you had to work on each segment of the design process at FB. I’m really curious what a real product timeline is like working for one of the larger orgs. Great videos btw :)
Thank you so much for being so vulnerable. As a student trying to find my first job, it reminds me that landing a job in a corporate company should not be the only light to look forward to at the end of the tunnel. It’s so hard during the job hunting process for me to remember that I need to find a place that will truly make me happy. Thank you. I’m so glad I found your channel.
Thank you for posting this! As a junior UX designer at a startup, I have anxiety every day about every decision so it's good that you are showing that it's ok to switch it up not once but twice.
I FEEL YOU on that ~anxiety~ it gets easier over time though :) you learn to stop caring so much because you realize you'll be ok at the end of the day
I really appreciate how honest you are about your decision making and going back and forth. Sometimes it makes us normal humans feel bad to see how everyone on social media seems to have their lives solved and know exactly what they want in life. And I know for a fact that 90% of the time they are just not sharing those moment when they feel lost and confused, so seeing people like you open up is really nice and it makes me feel less of a failure and more of a normal creative person who sometimes struggles about life, goals and desires :)
The burn out is real. I have been struggling a looooot. 😩 I quit all social media and have changed a lot of habits in hope my passion comes back. And it is! Slowly but surely. Looking forward to seeing more of your content. I'm glad you're back to the place you loved.
Good for you girl!! I also recently left a FAANG company w/o having another job lined up. It was scary but I believe it was the best decision for me at the time. I applaud you for making that decision for yourself!
It's not always fun and games to pursue the things you want and it can definitely be a lot of heartbreak when you realize that what you thought you wanted turned out to be different. We want different things at different stages and we're always influenced by different stories and motivations, so I am so proud of you for pursuing the things that you want even if they or you change and grow over time! 🌱Forever in your corner 💗
Design fatigue is a real thing especially if you work in a production house constantly creating experiences with little to no breaks. Love your content. Keep them coming and congrats on finding your happy place / balance 😀
I'm very happy to see this video, I choose not to work at a certain big company for similar reasons and to see you happy just make me think that I don't regret of my decision. I think we are understanding more about how big company works and they're not made for everyone that's okay we have other dreams
Loved watching this! And the other video about FB. I also did not agree with some values of the company and everything you had mentioned. Today was my last day at Facebook after a year being there. 😙 I’m grateful for the experience though and all I’ve learned!
Wow I remember discovering your YT/IG when you first worked at Instacart and now you're back! Getting burnt out is a real thing, I'm glad you're in a happier place now. Looking forward to more of your videos and updates!
You‘re so brave. I’ve been considering quitting the current job, learning new skills to change my career in the tech industry. I have no tech background. Your videos inspire me :)
I’ve just found out your channel and it’s so interesting to see what you are doing. Thanks for being so honest! People used to talk just about positive side of their experience, but it’s so important to share all aspects. Thank you!
Honestly it's so refreshing to hear someone chose a regular job and values so much working with good mentors over choosing the content creator path... I still think you make amazing vids and you would have done great, but whatever feels best for you!! Can't wait for more vids :) x
Thank you for the honesty! I've followed your journey and appreciated your take on purpose and mental health. Glad to hear you figured things out!! Best of luck!!
Excited to see more videos !! Congrats on your new job and your big leap of faith :) I truly think that you are a great exemple of what people should look for in life : true happiness and if it means quieting than getting back to your old job that be it !
I’m 100% with you on quitting a job if you’re burned out and the money is the only thing keeping you there. Good for you for taking a risk and following your gut instinct.
I feel you! I once wanted to quit design but eventually, I went back to design after a few months of trying something related to finance. It was a very depressing moment. But now I realize that I have the power to give meaning and value to the job I choose. So I went back to design. I remind myself that I can make a change to the world directly or indirectly as long as I practice compassion.
Hey Christine, thanks so much for sharing your experiences, I appreciate the honesty. I feel a lot of young people in tech tend to glorify working at a big 4, but no one really talks about the burnout or long term career advancements, or even whether their values are concurrent with these companies. Happy you found your passion again in design.
Making major decisions like these in your career takes a lot of guts. I’m glad you were able to make the move for yourself and do what you feel makes you happiest. 👸🏻
Dude! Same thing happened to me! I felt so burned out from my previous job and attempted at being a freelancer. But same as you, it's lonely as fudge! It's also a grind and may not be quite ready at being my own boss just yet. Thankfully, I am in a decent position to reevaluate my current situation in life and have decided to strive at becoming a UX designer. Luckily I do have some experience in tech so I'll see how it goes. But it's comforting to see you decided to go back to your 9-5, cause it's what I'm thinking of doing :)
Glad you found happiness and refound your love of design. It’s always best to follow your gut, even if that means leaving something good to try something new. Glad it all worked out in the end!
Nice video..you are doing great..since I also run education channel but also love to see other youtuber who are educating people worldwide. Keep the good work 👍
Thank you for sharing! You’re a big inspiration of mine and your videos helped me build up the courage to take the leap to switch into UX through a bootcamp. Best of luck on creating your weekly videos and I’m excited to follow along your journey!
hi there!! I've been watching your videos for a short period of time but really enjoying them so far. as a background for myself, I'm a brazilian ux designer working in a growing startup. what i wanna say, though is that i felt so, SO relieved for you when you said you were going back to instacart because i have been there at the "I'm gonna be a full-time content creator because *makes up 57568 excuses to myself and everyone else about why i shouldn't work for corporations*" but i couldn't keep up the rhythm of doing everything as an artist because it's not for me, i don't fuction that way! so yeah! i was happy you seemed relieved about quitting your other big job because it did seem like it was a lot for you and you truly seemed better... but i started feeling insecure when you said you didn't want to be a designer anymore. sort of "been there, done that" kind of thing! i was not being logical or thoughtful when i tried being a full-time artist because I'm more gut-oriented (which is something i have to get better on, since I'm sorta risk taker and logic helps me a lot with my strong feelings :^) )... and i was seeing you mentioning gut feelings and not thinking too logically... i suddenly went noooooooo but then BAM plot twist! you are at instacart again! that's truly nice to hear. the first video of yours i watched was of your routine at instacart and i loved that video! just fyi haha but yea, taking things slower at work is so good for health! i hope you get better at time management too btw since you mentioned that in the video. i have time management issues too! oh damn i babbled a lot.. well, just wanted to say I'm happy for you and that i relate to your video!! oh and that i really like your videos too :D keep strong and take care!! have a good 2021 ^^
Nice that you put out this video that says your don't need to work at a big tech company and sacrifice what's value to you. It makes people feel ok. It might be ok for others but if ok to just walk away
I totally agree with your perspective regarding gut feeling you can’t silent and the value of self-reflection! I LOVE your contents and so excited to see your video weekly 😍💜
Aww, it's great to see you happy like this, Christine! Even though it didn't work out at FB, at least you took action and found out it wasn't for you rather than wonder what could have been. Rock on :D
ah christine! thank you for sharing you experience. you're so brave to come to the decision that you did. as you took the time in korea to rest and re-evaluate, i think it gave you a lot of clarity on what you want.
I'd like to support you! When I was offered a teaching job I thought I was never going to be able to do that because I'm deeply introverted and I literally dreaded the very thought of teaching a class. But after considering it for a while I accepted the challenge and as soon as I finished teaching my first class I realised how much I enjoy it. It's been three years now and I'm still teaching. I think you should just go for it and maybe you will realise how much potential you actually have and that being an introvert isn't actually a problem :)
u need to talk alot and to different ppl as a ux designer... if u really dont like talking then stick to UI design... although UI design pays significantly less
Haha i loved the timeline of this video. But I think I work the same way that if I feel a GUT feeling, then that will only be on my mind until I do something about it. And I think it is so brave of you to want to come back, but this version of you is definitely different from the person before the break/change of direction. So happy for you!!
Leaving something for better is always the best feeling...I quit my job last year but sadly lockdown happened and meanwhile I prepare my self for another exciting journey of UX/UI design. Hopefully I get into good comapny with good people, its hardly to find and lucky ones to get. Anyway your videos are big big INSPIRATION in my life. THANK YOU @chunbuns
Hey I'm so glad you did what you thought was right. This is probably the first time you've seen me in your comments but I really like the UI design stuff, I recently got into it. Anyway, I'm already pretty busy, but if you ever need an editor let me know! ily!!!
Sooooo happy for you that you could at least be able to try out different possibilities tho, fail fast and iterate hahaha! Looking forward to the next few videos on your experience at FB!
This video is everything I needed to hear right now. I am in a path in my career right now, where I am getting out and taking a very risky decision to explore my potentials. And there are so many doubts and I keep questioning myself, because I feel this is the right decision but I don't know if it will pan out or not... but now that you said it, :) right decisions might or might not pan out. I am taking a calculated decision and just need to trust my gut feeling and hope for the best. Thank you so much for creating inspiring content. I am so happy for you and hope the best for you. Can't wait for the second part :D
I don't think I would ever be interested in working for a FAANG company--I want to use my design skills to work on projects that really improve people's lives, but some of these companies are involved in so many terrible things: the political destabilisation of the US, misinformation abroad, slave labour, massive greenhouse gas emissions, employee abuse, using their tech for military purposes, so many mental health problems in society, big brother-style privacy violations, doing far too little to curb the spread of illegal materials on their own platforms, and much, much more. I would much rather work for a small company with far less pay but knowing I'm building something that's really great for people.
Thanks for sharing your recommended class on Skillshare - super helpful! Would love to learn more about which courses helped you the most :) Also, your video was such an encouragement since I'm going through something similar. Can't wait for your second one. xx
I'm in that time in college where I need to find a UX internship, videos like this remind me that I need to take it easy... but also aish if I could just find something remote.

Ok... this is so me right now. like literally. i quit Facebook to try something else like maintaining my business, growing my UA-cam channel, turns out, after 7 months, it absolutely gotten me nowhere. Now, im already asking my boss if they can still take me back. hopefully then will take me back tho.
Congratulations and good for you! I’m still trying to find where I fit in in the design world, your content has definitely inspired me! Thanks a bunch! 😀
You definitely have a knack for creating fun and engaging content, so looking forward to supporting your growth! The confidence with which you took on this decision is inspiring 💛🙌
Congratulations ! I really like your videos, glad that you decided to continue making them, I can relate with the issue of feeling burnt out with design. Wishing you the best on your next work adventure!:)
I really love that flexibility .. really like that you show that every person can go back and forth it's really normal for us to go back and forth you were about to quit design at all I was going back and forth between design and coding it's really hard right now I'm focused on design yesterday I was thinking of coming back to code as I'm not making any progress in design I know you have degree in chemistry .. I have degree in pharmacy so we are kinda related I hope things become clear for me
Congrats! The new journey looks so exciting! Still a struggling junior designer here trying to get my first role so please still drop some tips 😅 we neeeeed it
Currently on the same boat about quitting...I've been at my job for two years and I just don't have any passion for it while also being so burnt out all the time for wearing so many hats and having so many responsibilities. Quitting is something I've never done and this is my first full time job and before I've only been at internships. I'm so nervous to bring up to my boss that I want to quit and I don't even know how I would bring it up to her or set up a meeting to do so!
I came from a golden handcuff company. I am at 32 now and I still started my own business! No age is too late. I even went back to another start up and contribute back there with what I learnt both from the big company and my own business. The right time is no matter the age, but what you do with it.
hi, it's great to hear from you that you are back to instacart. could you share a bit more about work in instacart as a UX designer? I am about to graduate, and really like the company since it save my life during the lock-down.
6:25 regrets. yes. that feeling. would rather failing trying rather than not doing anything. me also right now quitting current job as a tester to focus on dev work instead. wish me luck~ btw great contents as always. thank you so much for sharing your story with us. best of luck to you!
*Intro music plays* literally game over. Made my day with a smile on my face, and this is exactly what I've been waiting for!! HAHA you are so talented, your sense of humor and the time & 땀 you put into these videos bleedsss through my screennnn. You are the true mentor that gets me motivated and keeps me grinding during this time and for the most to never stop believing in myself, also to be brave to make decisions in my career! Congrats on your new role, and can't wait to see what you accomplish through this ch of your life. 화이팅언닝!!! OH in your future content: would love to hear, how you manage to work from home, what you eat in a day LOL I just love your variety of content you have that I can always relate to. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING. Love Hannah
Burn out is real! I felt the same need to re-evaluate everything when the pressure of being a half designer and half coder were too much. I quit my job, moved countries. But us creative minds, we need our fix of building things! I'm happy we get to keep you here in the product design community. You can do both (be a designer and a content creator) and do it beautifully ✨
Oh... hell yeah... they lost...bye Facebook. Mental health is essential during a pandemic. Being a designer / creative should not make you feel sad. Congrats on leaving + you absolutely don't need to be in a space that makes you unhappy. 👏
I feel you on this. I am studying for UX and I just was laid off from the job that I had only been at for 2 months but I feel so relieved. I also want to freelance with UX and create content. I am excited to focus on my channel and I created a Patreon. Good Luck!!
I would be interested to hear more about the type of work that you did (doing only one tiny thing or being responsible for the full end-to-end experience), the workload and the work type (what's the ratio of meetings and actual design work). Also where the pressure and crushing deadlines were coming from? Was that coming from your team, your manager or was it self-inflicted because of the imposter's syndrome?
Totally agree. I had a love-hate relationship with design after burning out so much. Then I go back again after taking a break working on something else. haha

So brave of you following your heart. Good luck at your new job!
Ok... this is so me right now. like literally. i quit Facebook to try something else like maintaining my business, growing my UA-cam channel, turns out, after 7 months, it absolutely gotten me nowhere. Now, im already asking my boss if they can still take me back. hopefully then will take me back tho.
Great job! I am now working at Bytedance as a PM and I felt burned out as well. Thinking about quitting soon.
Congratulations and good for you! I’m still trying to find where I fit in in the design world, your content has definitely inspired me! Thanks a bunch! 😀
Good luck onward!
Wishing you the best on your next work adventure!:)
good for you!!! I can't wait to be able to be a full time entrepreneur one day!
Really inspiring! Love to follow your univers :D
Best of luck on your weekly vids :)))))
congratulations on starting your own journey!
I really love that flexibility .. really like that you show that every person can go back and forth it's really normal for us to go back and forth you were about to quit design at all
I was going back and forth between design and coding it's really hard
right now I'm focused on design yesterday I was thinking of coming back to code as I'm not making any progress in design
I know you have degree in chemistry .. I have degree in pharmacy so we are kinda related
I hope things become clear for me
Congratulations🎉
Waiting for more vlogs 🙂
Woot, thanks for sharing, Christine! I was hoping this video was talking about going more full time into content creation lol.
고생하셨어요! 멀리서 늘 응원합니다!
Hey I hope everything works out in the end for you. 🙏 Be strong and look for your happiness
love your content! best of luck back at instacart!!!!
I came from a golden handcuff company. I am at 32 now and I still started my own business! No age is too late. I even went back to another start up and contribute back there with what I learnt both from the big company and my own business. The right time is no matter the age, but what you do with it.
what made you decide that it was time to quit?
@@elizabeth4689 when I know I can't picture myself there for another 10 years. It is now or never. 😊
You don't need to give interview at facebook , you just start working , they know more about you than you thought about yourself
Thanks for sharing!! And good luck with all your future endeavors ( :
hi, it's great to hear from you that you are back to instacart. could you share a bit more about work in instacart as a UX designer? I am about to graduate, and really like the company since it save my life during the lock-down.
6:25 regrets. yes. that feeling. would rather failing trying rather than not doing anything. me also right now quitting current job as a tester to focus on dev work instead. wish me luck~
btw great contents as always. thank you so much for sharing your story with us. best of luck to you!
I didnt even know you left instacart D: everytime I see a commercial for instacart, I was think about you haha
Please make a video about interviewing as a designer at Facebook and good luck with all your future endeavors!
Selling sunset is the besssttt!!
So glad I stayed until the end of that video. What a plot twist!
Oh... hell yeah... they lost...bye Facebook.
Good Luck!!
oh you came back from korea! i'll just rewatch your food videos again haha
Yesssss spill the tea!!! PS would you ever consider joining ADP List as a design mentor?
Its great Instacart accepted you back
You are such an inspiration and I feel so happy for you!
Good luck ❤
앞으로 더 많은 유튜브 영상 볼 수 있게 될 것 같아서 기대돼요!
Totally agree. I had a love-hate relationship with design after burning out so much. Then I go back again after taking a break working on something else. haha
Do you girl 👏🏽 stay happy
