    Yes, I didnt do enough research either, I got 2 strand twists then interlocked 3x, that was it, free form all the way!
    no wax , no oil, no conditioners, best thing I ever did, just wash with shampoo bar, rinse with rosemary tea and go, just soft lovely locs and I'm not fully loc'd. Your hair looks very healthy!
    Congrats on finding your zooch!

      glad heart thanks yeah research is the most important thing prior to obtaining dreads, I still wish I had known more!

      glad heart what shampoo bar do you use, darlin?

  • @AtreyuLocs
    @AtreyuLocs 8 років тому +75

    That was a very interesting point you made about interlocking. It makes sense that those knots don't have the luxury to loc up due to the fact that the tension of those hairs is such that it prevents them from intertwining with the nearby hairs. I'd never heard that but it makes complete sense.
    I like the spaghetti analogy. I think it's fitting. LOL you gotta love the unsolicited advice. That's crazy that that woman came at you like that. People. smh.
    Good video, bro!

    Your hair looks great, got a nice start to a very even look of good separation.
    Just FYI to all: eating dairy and/or having any type of issues with systemic candida (sugar addiction) will cause itchy, flaky and other scalp issues. I gave up dairy and my scalp will be totally fine, and then I will slip and eat like sour cream or ice cream or if I have too much wine or something and boom, flakiness that I am scratching at and feeling itchy for days!
    I have fairly fine Caucasian type hair that is wavy/frizzy not stick straight. I have let it grow past my shoulders now (much effort and trimming with the moon cycle helps) and I have always wanted dreads, but I want them even and clean like the twist style, not lumpy and uneven and messy, but I think I would prefer this freeform natural way that is less damagaing. I work in the health and beauty field and I can't be a mess! I am nervous to start this cuz if it doesn't work or I don't like it I will have to cut all my hair off, right??

    I can relate. My first set that I had in 2003 webbed together and it looked like a helmet on my head. My own fault because they were in the in-between stages and I didn't keep them separated. I tried again the next year and I've had this set of locs ever since.

    People giving you advice that you don't need is probably the most annoying part about the freeform process. My ex told me that I should twist my hair, I go on to tell her that I've already tried twists twice and they just aren't for me(much for the same reason why you didn't stick with them) and she goes on and says "no no you have to twist them the right way" I'm just like...uhh...shraggy? the right way? I mean I think I know what I like and don't like but ok. I just let those things slide though, a lot of people are ignorant to freeform locs in the first place.

    • @Scrappylocs

    All hair is different. Ive been interlocking for years and they have never been mistaken for braids. And wax should Never be used for locs, sounds like the problem was the Wax instead of the Twists themselves. And my scalp doesn't itch by default like you said happens with any locs. All hair is very different. Look into hair types, because they all work differently.

  • @julianaramirez3429
    @julianaramirez3429 8 років тому +1

    Wow, I just came from another one of your vids, where I ask you if you've locked before-only bc you r so knowledgable about them. You just answered my question. I knew it!!!!!!! Cool! And here I was talking to you as if u were a newbie. Ha ha ha. I use jojoba, argan, Vit. E and coconut. A little and not at the same time. I've had my locs for many years, so they're very long, and couple that with the fact that I naturally have thin hair and the fact that I'm 63 y.o., and also that I dye it, like twice a yr, I'm starting to be concerned with my thinning edges. I've thought about buying Jamaican black castor oil, bc so many ppl swear by it, but hv been hesitant bc I know that it's thick. What do you think ?

    • @Scrappylocs
      @Scrappylocs  8 років тому +1

      Juliana Ramirez I haven't heard real heads or tails on whether castor oil works or not some people hype it up and some don't. I'll do some research and get back to you on that! I only had the other 2 sets for a month a piece so Idk if those even count lol

    • @julianaramirez3429
      @julianaramirez3429 8 років тому +1

      Scrappylocs Sure they count, but it's really that you've done your research and have educated yourself about locs. That's commendable. Thanks in advance for help with the castor oil dilemma. Lazy In 'Da Bronx ;)

    So, I let some woman talk me into interlocks..and was too late to even redo it.. however I was thinking about freeform . Are you saying I won't be able to free form with my interlocs?

  • @khadijahdickey-williams8983

    If you leave interlocs in they will lose that look

  • @Runupbandz4life

    Anybody know how to get your free forms to stick up like this? My hair about the same length as his, but it usually just lays down.

    • @Scrappylocs
      @Scrappylocs  8 років тому

      OneBizarreGuy mine now lays down as well. I'm not sure that short of banding your locs to make them stiff that you can make them stand like this again

    • @Runupbandz4life
      @Runupbandz4life 8 років тому

      Scrappylocs Thanks. Got another question. Is normal for them to be frizzy and loose? I'm about a month and a half by the way.

    • @Scrappylocs
      @Scrappylocs  8 років тому

      OneBizarreGuy yeah bro that's definitely normal I'm almost 5 months in now and I still have a few on the top of my head that are frizzy and loose.

    I don't know why anybody would put wax in their hair. If you stop to think for just a minute you realize it makes no sense and is horribly counterproductive.
    Not only does it not allow movement, it retains water and won't wash..
    Everyone always says "residue free shampoo, residue free shampoo!". So why on Earth would you intentionally load your hair up with an unnecessary residue that won't wash out.
    Uhmmm...

    Hi, thanks for sharing your experience. Yet, I don’t agree with your explanation about interlocks. I Started with platting my natural hair, and then latch hook them for the past 10 years. If interest you can check me out on my channel. When I tighten my locs 4-5 times a year, the roots do look interlocked but after that, the rest of my Locs absolutely look locked and there is no evidence of interlocking as they age. I would imagine softer or straighter texture of hair may have different results. Stay blessed bro ✊🏽

    The part about balancing the oils for your scalp. I’m currently using Jamaican black castor oil, and i have that scalp itch heavy. What can I do to calm that down just a bit?

    • @PsyckoDelta
      @PsyckoDelta 4 роки тому

      Maybe the oil itself irritates your scalp. Try Peppermint and Coconut combined
