You have made a mistake while interpreting the third sentence "欲窮千里目". Here, the poet used a rhetorical device called "inverted sentence" to make it conform to rhythmics. Actually, the sentence in normal order should be "欲目窮千里", which means "desire to see as far as one can". Here, the character "目" is a verb means "to see", you cannot interpret it as a noun "eyes". Thanks for your enthusiasm to promote the Chinese culture.

Not only they have excellent meaning, but also they sound quite beautiful.
I'd appreciate it if you would make more videos about Chinese poems, like this!

It amazes me that Chinese people still greatly value poems and cultural aspects from so long ago, so it's important to learn about these things. I still know very little about China but little by little I am learning more.

You will enjoy a grander sight
If you climb to a greater height.

Such a beautiful video. I think an interpretation of the poem as a whole, or a bit more about the poet, would be good. Unless, of course, the reader or listener is supposed to make up his own interpretation. I liked your comments about the drunken general who composed the poem about the frost-like moonlight.

The first 2 sentence of the poem is S O/Adv V. Is is not the same as the Chinese S V O.
However, it does not mean that ancient Chinese is SOV, one of the reason of using SOV in the poem is to meet the tones of the poem. As you know, the poem in ancient China need to follow the tones.
The Chinese written in ancient is not completely the same{Not the shape, but the meaning of the word}, so even a Chinese can't understand all the ancient Chinese without translate to the Chinese using nowadays. So if you study Chinese, you usually have lessons for the ancient Chinese also.
This poem is written in Tong Dynasty, using ancient Chinese. Therefore, you still need to translate it into nowadays Chinese before reading.
This is just the additional information about the poem.
Actually it is incorrect to use the term Ancient Chinese, but better as Chinese in the form of writing using in ancient. The purpose is to use the least words to express the most meaning. So somehow a word have many different meaning in different usage, it is too difficult to learn so it was translated into the Chinese use nowadays. A 100words ancient Chinese is translated into Chinese nowadays with 800~1000 words, so you can think how difficult with ancient Chinese.
    Chinese suck in ancient Chinese.
My advice is that you need to master Chinese before you go deep into poems.
    Sorry for poor English.

Chinese poem is so childish if not stupid. How could you see the farther by descending one layer?

+Ben Hedges The poem is neither view from specific perspective, nor reflex writer's creative inspiration. Basically, it repeat a fact even child know. "ascending one layer, see the farther". It's classic 流水账 and far from literature art.

+五色兰德 What have you got against this poem? This is generally one of the poems taught in the beginning of a University level Classical Chinese course. There is a lot in it, including parallelism between characters in the two lines, examples of the use of 盡 and 窮 which is important to learn, you could write a couple of pages of analysis about this one poem. Could you perhaps tell us the title of a poem you think is better?

It actually says 'ascend one more floor", not "descend." You need to read more carefully before you post critical comments, ok?
