    • @shia_labeouf

      Yes. It's so subtly done too. The camera pans right while keeping Bernard in frame and when it pans back the door is there but they don't call it out before that. Just a spot of light on that part of the wall to draw your eye to it.

    Bernard not being able to see that door also explains how Ford appears seemingly out of nowhere when he first visits the house an few episodes prior. The amount of subtle foreshadowing throughout the episodes is both fascinating and brilliant and always makes me want to watch it again.

    • @bsaintnyc
      @bsaintnyc Рік тому

      The amount of foreshadowing in this show is insane. When Benard is in fords office you can see ford planning the Delos board massacre. In s1 there's also conversations about getting the sector 16 data to serac. Lee Sizemore talks about how if you pull too many hosts simultaneously it can potentially destabilize the park. Sizemore's comments are why the MIB chastised a host in s4 for killing too many humans- just wantonly killing them will destabilize the carefully crafted world they are in. Truly brilliant writing. Its a shame too. Season 5 was setting up a huge twist that everything we have seen so far were simulations in the sublime. The true ending was set up to be mindblowong. Its a crime that we probably will never see it.

    This scene with Bernard and us as the viewers, watching as he realizes he's actually a Host, it sets the precedent for what Westworld will do. This show was by no means the best, but what they did have, was story building. This specific scene has stuck with me for years. We see Bernard explaining the things hidden from Hosts from his perspective... A blank wall. Immediately we are transferred to Teresa's perspective and she's asking about a door, a door Bernard can't see. I remember my first time watching this I had a visceral reaction, I immediately exclaimed, "No!" I watched with bated breath hoping this twist wasn't what I knew it was. Then the diagrams. "It doesn't look like anything to me", seemed to make my mind come to a screeching halt. I remember yelling at the television in disbelief, having to rewind and watch that one interaction over, and over.

    Amazingly subtle. He says hosts can’t see things right in front of their face and then literally the next line doesn’t see the door literally in front of his face. Only the most astute viewers would notice.

    One of the most sophisticated series of all time. The writing, the acting, the cinematography, the world design, the music. HBO peeked with Westworld Season 1. Still to this day I have to find anything like it. Even following seasons were just not the same. Might have been the Anthony Hopkins effect.

    I wonder what exact moment triggers Bernard to now be able to see the door and walk through it.
    He says the hosts can’t see certain things, and he didn’t see the door.
    But he eventually inspects that door, walks through the door frame (a wall from his point of view), and see everything in the basement.
    The moment she touched it? The moment the door was moved? Once she walked through a “wall”?
    Or is he seeing the wall still there and he walks through the wall, because she was able to walk through the wall?

    When I heard they were going to make a series based on the hosts' point of view, I cringed. Civil Rights parables where robots are second class citizens is a hackneyed sci-fi trope.
    It's scenes like this where they become self aware that make the series compelling.
