Hey Vice, I have a suggestion. Like all media, I wish you would tell these folks what is really happening, in this case what 'woke' really means, and then we get to see how they react. There's no point in just hearing what they think it is. I want to know if they learning anything.

Billions of dollars are being poured into media that targets uneducated Midwestern and southern communities who don't have the mental tools to realize how they are being manipulated. They are doing this because they can get those people to vote Republican and save billions on taxes. They need a way to energize their base and the best way for them to do that is to take away rights from people they don't like ie marginalized groups.

DeSantis' lawyers had to legally define 'woke' in court at one point. The official legal definition (direct quote): "the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them." Straight up saying you're against that is a... bold move for a politician.

A governor is the head or chief of the executive branch of government for a state, I don't see how the term isn't germane to the position of an elected official or officer. Sounds like Chief Executive Officer is a great title for a governor.

I became woke at 27 yo, now 54. I was in the utility department of Crestview FL. there was a white man being helped by the white lady behind the counter. when he left she asked me to come up to the counter. As I did a black lady let out a sigh and gathered her child and stuff then left. After the lady left the lady behind the counter pulled out a can of air freshener and said "don't they just smell?". That was the first time I became aware of the racism that runs rampant in the South. I felt so bad for that woman not being helped and looking like a racist myself. I am aware now that much of the way I was raised included racism. I have been calling out racism every time I see it in hope of atonement for not standing up for that woman.

Not to be rude but it's too much proof of many videos of white people posting themselves including podcasts on topics of their hygiene saying they don't believe in bathing often and some weren't aware you needed to wash certain body parts such as the legs. I am 67, and started voting in 1974 in my first presidential election. Since then, lots of presidents and leaders have come and gone, I have changed my thinking from republican to independent, to democrat, back to independent and democrat, but I have never seen a more toxic political atmosphere in our society. it used to be that we could disagree, chat openly, even laugh at friends who had different opinions. Now, "woke" and liberal, are synonymous with "communist", and one becomes a recipient of hate and vitriol. I don't really know how this started or where we lost our way, but we are in for a ride the next few elections. I am afraid that our fragile democratic republic will not survive a theocratic and christian driven USA.

To teach kids about new things and to introduce them to the different types of people and situations that they are going to encounter in daily life. So the fact that she was bothered that her kids' world view was being expanded is disturbingly ignorant to say the least. And that guy right before that couple had NO CLUE what he was talking about. Also gas prices have been back to their normal price ranges since like Halloween and inflation has been dropping for 5 months straight from aound 9% to around 6.4% but you wouldn't know it cuz the corporations are still keeping their prices the same and still blaming inflation, which is ironic given that the prices on common goods like meat, produce, poultry, gas, had been increased between 17-34% before inflation had even hit 8%. So in instances where the price was up 32% that is 4 times the increase in inflation but the right wing will fight tooth and nail to block any form of regulation, tax increase or penalties for the corporations price goughing us for nearly 2yrs and their base is dull to that fact due to their politicians keeping them constantly distracted by the "Woke" bullshit or war hawking about the CCP or fear mongering about the "invasion" at the border (which has also seen a decrease in illegal crossings)

Exactly. A logical argument could be made that we need less federal holidays. Or argue there is a better way to celebrate it than a federal holiday (things like education. Well, that wouldn't work, as most conservatives are against education, or only want it as indoctrination.)
So all of these people are blatantly saying they are "anti-woke" need to know that, Woke is basically a slang word in the Black community. To be WOKE is to be aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice). So all of these folks who are out there screaming anti-woke need to check the meaning and if they still stand behind their stance, then the cat is out of the bag. It’s hard to define as left or right. I have seen many families have that member we call woke. This person typically encourages the family to remember where they came from and the struggles we’ve had over the years. …. Another way it’s used is STAY WOKE.

Woke is when the schools push back on the bigotry that parents are teaching their children at home. They want to be able to teach their kids that people who aren't Christian, or who are an LGBT individual, or who belong to a racial minority, are somehow inferior to the rest of us, and not deserving of rights. They want to be able to do that without pushback from the school system, and they're screaming their heads off about their bigotry running unchecked. Don't be a bigot. Vote against the "STOP WOKE" crowd. They're just bigots who don't want pushback from the school system.

The way I see it, the word "woke" seems to be like a catch all phrase used by anyone on the right to describe anything (re policy, issue) that they see or deemed as liberal or left leaning. I'm a Canadian and one of my neighbors mentions ''woke'' every once in a while with annoyance. I THINK I know what she's on about. I have to admit such things as reflexive sex pronouns and transgender washrooms are sometimes irritating but hardly issues worth ranting about constantly. My night supervisor at work is transgender and is one of the best individuals I've ever met. I'm the second oldest member of the crew and she's very respectful towards me,towards everyone. What's important is being able to do the job we're paid to do. I could care less that she uses the female washroom. I have WAY MORE important things to worry about. This CPAC crowd should be doing the same,worrying about real problems in their country.
Republicans don't have the time or interest to find out what issues are important to people different from themselves, so they dismiss those concerns out of hand as "woke". But, by golly, when Evangelicals feel that they suffer from systemic discrimination or oppression, they raise holy hell if everybody doesn't rush in to fix it.

Some people get really defensive and argumentative about unintended misgender (when alternatively, one could politely correct someone) or really tedious about phrases like "hey dudes" or " you guys" etc when really it's non-gendered anyway and most people know this unless you want to egg on a confrontation. And getting so worked up about it when there's, in many people's eyes, bigger issues to address: justice reform, wealth inequality, poverty, wage growth, infrastructure, education, etc.
Personally I don't find the issues irritating, just sometimes over emphasized in relation to other issues.
@@theblackout27 Acknowledging one's personhood or culture by the titles that they want to be called isn't something that should be dismissed as less-important than those "larger issues" you mentioned but rather included. Our constitution has evolved on the issue of which group gets the benefits of full citizenship and history has shown that unless each and every subgroup is specifically delineated then they will be excluded. In practice, even if specifically listed they are still often not included. The notion of there being "larger issues" just belittles their personhood. I see the argument though, but I consider them linked.

Woke is the past-tense version of the verb "wake" (as in "so-and-so woke up"). It means "to be awake" and enlightened, informed and educated. I guess Republikkkans don't want to be any of these.
In fairness, Gen Z youth across racial lines have a tendency to heavily rely on (or co-opt) terminology, patterns of speech, and even accents that have their origin mainly in black American subcultures. I work and go to school with them and find this to be often true even in person.
