As someone who experienced the Flint Water Crisis, another environmental crisis, you all in East Palestine have every right to be skeptical. I live in Youngstown, Ohio about 20 mins away from there. A few days after the wreck, my entire family got really sick. I talked to a few of my friends and they said them and their families were sick and everyone they know was sick. A lot of my family were sick for roughly 2 weeks. My Mom is still sick. Everyone I talked to said they were sick for roughly 2 weeks and some people still are. It's been a month and there is still something wrong. I don't trust anywhere in Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. If I had the money and resources to leave and bring my family with me, I absolutely would!! My nieces and nephews were severely sick, throwing up. One of my best friends has 3 daughters and she said they were violently sick and throwing up as well.. it's not safe here!! I'd move to a homeless shelter rather than live somewhere that I'm actively throwing up and my KIDS are sick ? It's all fenced off. However, people have including myself have snuck in there to fish, but it's very illegal. But, that's where we get our drinking water from. I'm positive that it was the air. A couple days after the wreck, the sky above Youngstown was completely and totally pitch black!! We've never seen anything like it before. It was like if you were in a completely dark room and closed your eyes as tight as you could pitch black! It was scary. But, people were sick for roughly about a month just like 2-3 days after the wreck..

I remember the mantra, "When in doubt, take the safetst route." The railroad is very unforgiving; employees die every year. As much as the company drilled safety practices into our heads, it is hard for me to fathom how much that industry has changed in such a short period of time. Some companies are willing to put employee and public safety behind profits and efficiency. I feel bad for anyone who lives within a half mile of a main track.

As someone who grew up in a corrupt country I know very well what this is and how they can manipulate citizens to believe anything they tell them. I moved to this country about 15 years ago, and in all honesty it seems to be getting worst and worst. Even Mexico my home land who I still visit often is getting better and better and projected to becoming a world economy in the incoming years. Americans are moving to mexico like never before. In fact, the president of Mexico responded to accusations by American officials by saying “in Mexico we have real democracy” and this is true at least for the past 5 years. Here in the U.S we are losing that. Us as citizens need to start acting against our corrupt governments. We cannot afford to stay quiet anymore, we cannot afford to let the rich people keep abusing the rest of us.

I feel bad for the people who live in this place. It's been about year since this accident and I just found out about this. Knowing that such derailment used to happen but never for the consequences to reach to this extent must make the residents more than upset. Same thing with the derailment in a small town named Graniteville, South Carolina. That basically made a carrier container explode and release extremely concentrated chlorine into a small town killing a bunch of people who basically were bombed with mustard gas from a train carrier container that was pressurized, erupting. At the time, I was a college student at Benedict college in Columbia SC (I’m from Jersey, literally right outside of Manhattan- I moved back here after graduating college) I remember with my fellow chemistry majors going out to the more rural areas where lower income white & black people lived, who complained of so many horrific things for years after the incident; allowing us to test their properties, forage, water wells, clothing, even livestock and pets. We were threatened by the state with defunding our small college as well as federal grants drying up if we made our research public. Professors lost their tenure over it, and deans and department chairs were demoted or outright fired. We had to sit on our research for almost 2 decades! Apparently the EPA of President Bush and Obama didn’t know it existed, the Trump admin was a joke in regards to anything EPA. Bidens EPA has at least attempted to reach out to our former professors and department chairs (this of whom that are still alive anyways) one lost all of our research in a bad flood in Columbia SC in 2015-2016 and the other has relocated to Arizona to teach and has lost all of the work on a hard drive that was left in a storage unit in Arizona that reached internal temps of over 200°F and below freezing temps in the winter over a couple years which destroyed the hard drives from the heat/cold/heat/cold dynamic. Me and my classmates all still possessed our individual research and were missing about 10% of it all from a classmate who unfortunately passed away tragically from a heart attack at the age of 32. We are compiling our work now and as of this week were fortunate enough to find the records keeper of the now defunct lab who did our testing who had everything we needed. Within the next month or two we are all planning on going back out there to retest to compare todays work with our work from 2005. Also, the state of SC completely tried to sweep it under the rug. When it was a republican president in a majority republican ran state legislature with a republican governor and republican Supreme Court; partisan bullshit superseded our wellbeing as citizens in this country. Not to even make it a partisan or political thing; but the stark difference in the outcry and blaming of the transportation secretary of all people for a accident is mind boggling!!! What republican partisan hacks and the peanut gallery refuse to acknowledge is this outcry and blaming is politics 101 ! They don’t give a DAMN about these people or anything else! It’s just politics to them! PERIOD! Wether they’re democrats or republicans it’s politics period. The sad thing is these politicians KNOW exactly what the process is (a lengthy one at that) to even come to a conclusion of what happened and what didn’t happen. It’s a years long process and they KNOW this! Those rail companies are heavily subsidized by government and even if they’re sued it’s only so much responsibility they will be responsible for.

My father had applied several months ago and got a job as an electrical engineer for the railroad in Vancouver/Portland area and he let the hiring lady know thatd he would need a month to settle things with his current company, they agreed, then a couple weeks before his start date a manager calls him yelling at him asking where he was, turns out there is a horrible lack of communication in the industry
He ended up telling the man that had yelled at him that if this is a sign of how they run their business, that he wants no part of it and hung up.

Unfortunately this is happening in the whole American workforce. It’s infuriating.

Funny to think that they had an open schedule with a “missing”engineer because they’re just as stupid as every other company I’ve worked for.

      It's systemic.
Blame corporate policy, blame changing demographics, aging infrastructure, and oh yeah; crappy people.

That retired engineer got me. He’s right. Can tell how upset he is that they’re endangering people due to their negligence (to put it nicely)
