  • In this one I try to go pick up my combine that I purchased a while back. Unfortunately the trailer we brought just was not up for the task and neither was our courage.

    GREAT VIDEO . I think you are very smart.. BUT.. you could have removed the corn head . This is a two trailer job.and I know that you already know that too.😁

      Thanks Thomas! My red 7300 I moved home with the corn head on the combine on one trailer. I’ve got a detached trailer found so we’re going to haul it in one piece with that as soon as we can get around to it.

    Not much I hate worse than mechanic work in the cold. The metal sucks the heat out of my hands and once they're numb, it's just a waste of time trying.
    I would have thought you could find a rollback truck large enough to carry a 7300.

    • @rosstheoliverman

      It was more of a height vs low hanging wires issue more than the weight.

    I don't know where you are so I will ask my question. Is there a possibility you can drive it home. Back in my day, we have been known to drive our combines as much as 50 miles. Took a while, but we didn't have a way to haul them, so we drove them.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Jonathan! Yes I have consider driving at home but the terrain is hilly and curvy between me and where it’s at. Not knowing anything else about its condition I’m hesitant to take it that far on its first time out. I ended up finding a neighbor with a detach trailer who’s going to haul it for me.

    I got a stupid question, how hard is it to take the head off?

    • @rosstheoliverman

      On these it’s not hard at all. Unlatch two latches and disconnect a coupler and you’re good to go. We considered taking the head off but then we would have to deal with it separately.

    Cool machine! I know your pain with finding the right trailer. I bought a Blueberry harvester back in Nov, From a guy about 45 mins from me way out in the middle of almost nowhere. Contacted up a friend and told me it'll cost nearly $900-1500 to get it back... Mind you the harvester has a Hyd Height control and goes up about 2ft. But as is it is nearly sitting on the ground. ughhhh!!! Gotta wait till spring now.

    Not sure what you're worried about with the trailer. At least the combine is running and moving again, which is great!

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  Рік тому +1

      There were lots of things that were less than ideal with the trailer. I was worried that we would hook some lines going home for one. The other thing was the angle of getting it up on there. It was going to end up for the back axle of the combine was sitting on the tires which came through the floor of the trailer. It was just going to be more of a hassle than it was worth. I found someone who has a detached trailer so hopefully in the next month or so we can bring it home!

    I was very hesitant to do the same after I got it up and running good! My son had bought a goose neck trailer but I wasn’t ready until it just had to be done . I had contacted a lowboy guy but he never called me back. So , my son and I took off one day on a whim of mine , had a small payer and loaded on to his trailer with no problem. So you can do it .

      I stuck them for a week in a bucket of oil. Then one night I sat in the basement next to the woodstove and I took a small sledgehammer and tapped one end until I got it to move and then I tapped the other end and worked back-and-forth until I had them free.

    @adamsuess3449 Рік тому +1

    I bought a car dolly and use that to pull combines. Pull the drive shafts and make sure the final drives are full. It works ok. Just need to make sure the rear axle isn't too wide.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  Рік тому

      Yeah, that was another option I thought of. But I did end up finding someone who’s got a detached trailer and he said he’d haul it for me if I just put the new floor on the trailer which he already has so trading labor for labor isn’t a bad deal.
