I'm Austrian, but I prefer the small and medium sized beer sizes in Spain. Why? Living in Spain for a while you understand, that if you drink a little slow, the beer gets warm and well, that's not nice. So preferable to have two small beers (caña) than one bigger one (jarra) that gets warm while you're drinking and chatting with your mates.
As a Bavarian, I've heard the complaints. "why do you drink 1 liter? It gets warm, before you're done!". Also as a Bavarian, I've never encountered the issue myself lol
In Spain and in Portugal normal glasses of beer are small. Instead of drinking just one glass we drink 3, 4 or 5 easy. We have hot weather and beer should be cold. In big glasses beer gets warm too quickly. You can always ask for a mug of beer or a large one.
@@James-ey3nr by default average German beer is weaker than Portuguese in terms of alcohol percentage. I was born and raised in Germany but I live in Portugal. I have no problem drinking half a dozen mugs of beer or more, be it German or Portuguese kind. It was just a term of comparison. Nobody here drinks just one, whatever size. I've seen many guys emptying a 24x 33cl bottle crate in a couple of hours...
@@mafcarvalho In Pilsener beer (lager) there's not that much difference in alcohol percentage. Sagres 5,1 vs Krombacher 4,8. It's just very typical how small the Spanish beer glasses are. I've never seen such small beer glasses in other hot countries, like Italy or Turkey.
And they (bartenders) often do not even know how much beer there is. It could be 250 ml, 300ml and sometimes only 200ml. So the seller must know as well as the buyer.
As a Spaniard, I agree. 0.33 liter is childsplay. Then I have to wait half an hour for the waiter to bring me the next beer. Das Deutsche Weg macht sinn.
We in Germany also do have 0.2 liter. And you do never have to wait for the waiter. They are all the time circulating between the tables and replace empty glasses with full glasses. Without asking. You have to signal, when you do want to stop drinking instead. You do this by leaving a tiny rest in the glass.
To be fair, beer gets warm after some time and also gets whatever schal means in English (loses its carbonic acid). The main problem is that you have to wait to get a new beer, so you can drink longer. E.g. having 2 x 0.5 liters vs 5 x0.2 liters. If you have 10 5 mins waiting time after ordering its 10 for the big ones and 25 mins waiting and not being able to drink if you have the small ones.
Don't order only "una cerveza" or "una caña" those are the small ones. You have to order "una jarra" en general o "un tanque" in Valencia to get a real beer.
Just got back from holiday in Portugal and had the exact same experience. First time I got my 0,25 beer, I instantly asked the waiter to bring 2 more. The same with wine, it was priced at 0,5 cl. When I asked the waiter to put more in the glas he refused , so i got 3 glasses of wine.
The same thing happened to me when I first came to Germany. People were drinking 200ml beers in bonn. Then, I was told NRW more into wine and I should visit bavaria for beer. What a disappointment it was.
Not all parts of Germany are the same. In Western Germany, especially the Cologne region, "Kölsch" beer is usually served in glasses holding one fifth of a litre, which would make this guy's beer seem absolutely gigantic. Not all of the USA is New York or California, not all of the UK is London and not all of Germany is Bavaria.
That's the way we Texans feel at (so-called) Mexican restaurants in Germany when they bring us a teeny tiny dish of salsa dip! I mean not more than a tablespoon full! 😣
I ordered a "grande" cerveza once, emphesis on the GRANDE. The dude brought me a huge glass mug thingy for ice cream, filled with around 1 liter of beer😂 He asked if that was grande enough💀
In Germany if you ask for an ordinary glass size of bear, they look at you strangely or gently laugh at you! 😂 We drink a lot and also portions of food are quite generous 😮!

This guy makes fun videos. I hope he is doing well.
I also like to watch his videos. He is natural, honest and humourous. 😂
In Germany we call it Kölsch
Böse Zungen behaupten: ”Kölsch ist kein Bier”.
Slight difference: Here, there is too little beer in the glass. With Kölsch, there is too little beer in the beer.
