I live in L.A. I tell people "If it's a bad idea, California will do it." I just got back from riding my escooter around where the fires are to check things out. No way I would have wanted to be in a car. High taxes, high crime, rampant homelessness and fires every year that wreck people's lives but yes, let's crack down on ebikes. CA is lost.
California wants to replace gas powers vehicles but is doing everything in their power to make it as hard as possible to switch to a electric alternative
Maybe they want people to switch to electric vehicles that can be taxed and controlled with registration. This law in Cali was passed almost unanimously. How many Cali legislators have ever ridden an e-bike?
What they really want is for you to have no vehicle at all. To totally take away your independent freedom of travel and to only take public transportation.
If e-bikes are restricted to a maximum speed of 28 mph, then it’s only fair that cars have a limit of 65 mph, especially since they can reach speeds of 140-160 mph. As long as we adhere to the speed limits, I don’t see why this should be a problem regardless of wattage
Good video! It's not just ebikes that Cali has out of control regulation. It took me almost 4 months to get approved and to install a solar system on my building in San Francisco. On the other hand, in Vegas, it took me one week to get approved and have a similar system installed on my house. I can halfway see if I was in the sticks somewhere that has forest/wilderness, but in the Mission District there are ZERO forests. California makes a bunch of laws based on like 10 rich people who donate to campaigns.
The laws should be about encouraging safe riding behavior, NOT limiting the specs of components, or making arbitrary distinction between pedaling and throttling. The good news is, the laws are SO DUMB, that NO ONE CARES. They are unenforceable. There are bigger problems. Unfortunately it just makes pre-made ebikes have to use janky limitations on the throttle. And it also sets up a situation where the police have a reason to pull over any ebike for any reason at any time, because the laws are so stupid and basically all ebikes are considered illegal
Get a petition started. You'll need hundreds of thousands of signatures. Seems to me that those making laws are ignorant to the job they must do. Have fellow ebike riders write their congressman.
You’ve still got it good. I review e-bikes in the U.K. if you didn’t know, we can use a throttle up to 4mph, max speed 15.5mph … and to top it all off 250w motors. Keep up the good work J, fight the power.
1:34 California ebike riders messed it up for everybody. Supped up bikes and riding recklessly in the street will cause a country wide crackdown on average riders in a virtually low-key sport. Everybody knows that once Cali is affected, it's just a matter of time for the rest. 😮 PS. THIS IS GOING TO KILL THE EBIKE MANUFACTURERS BUSINESS ALL OVER!!!
They stepped into unchartered waters and shot themselves in the foot, but that doesn't mean it's over it just means a company like Super73 should have known better when they have an opportunity with marketing for their ebike failure and use there passion for speed for just that! Speed, with a true call to speed, a full fledged go at the EMotorcycle market and produce in limited quantities perhaps, go all out with the C1X ⚡️🙂❤️
I've seen plenty of group rides which are as bad as street takeovers- intentionally obstructing traffic, confrontations, doing stunts, playing chicken with cars, damaging cars, but it almost always seems to be one particular demographic exhibiting the worst behavior. Common courtesy is racist.
Feeling sorry for some of my favorite reviewers.. Even a bunch of shops that sell these great bikes are going to be going through crap! You might need to blurr out your speeds during rides you video. To avoid incriminating yourself. Big motorcycle channels blurr out speeds in their videos.
Why should e-bike users get to use their Onyx or Super 73 to go as fast as a scooter or moped but not have to get a motorcycle endorsement or registration?
@@scootermcgee8064 Because that's a non-sequitor, one thing has absolutely nothing to do with the other. What you should be asking is why is a moped limited to 30mph.
The really bad thing about suing Super 73 is what are they gonna have to do so they right their 'wrong'? Put safeguards in place so you can't modify the bike? Meaning proprietary components that will not only raise the prices of their bikes, but also make it near impossible to service and repair it yourself going against our right to repair. I hate how car-brained people are nowadays, they're only making things worse on themselves and everybody around them.
The e-bike industry should pick one universal display to controller protocol, then people can buy the bike with the speed limit, and an inexpensive aftermarket display to override the speed/torque limit. Or better yet, the on-off/key should communicate the limits, and they can replace that with a keyswitch/throttle combo.
So i imagine people suing california over the no throttle up to 28 mph because pedaling to reach 28 is much more unsafe than just pushing your thumb down especially since most pedal assist bikes up to 28 are ghost pedaling anyways and the pas sensor is acting like a throttle. makes zero sense haha. Hope your frame came with vin numbers for moped registration sucks. The laws should have been solely based off of top speed not wattage output and even then it should have been 1500 watts. Some people just need torque and not speed. This is mostly going to be a cash grab for the state. they want to make money off of people and this is how its done. Gas mopeds don't even have this many restrictions lol. looks like 750 watt mid drives will become more popular to keep the hill climbing torque. Looks like the loophole will be dual 750 motors since there is no wording about it lol. pretty sure the super lawsuit will die because it only unlocks the bike to become a class 3 and it was sold before the law took effect. the kid can just unplug the throttle now and use pedal assist and its a class 3 bike (but the wattage goes over the limit).
Your right, the EU laws suck and remove allot of the joy in e-biking. None of the latest USA & chinese bikes can be legally rode here. Its super disappointing. All valid points you make about California laws spreading beyond its borders to other states and zones. Cos its still viewed as a 'leader'
For myself not even able to use a bike. When I saw this I even don’t think it makes sense. The new law does not make sense to even Ypres an e-bike. You even mentioned it. California is going down hill more and more. I’m glad you covered this topic and I totally agree with H you 100%
I once rode my Fuji Raleigh road racer to 40 mph but consistently rode 28-35 mph for long distances ( I still have it). Now I have all the newer toys, fast scooters a Super fast stealth Bomber (91 mph). There are no cops trying to Pi** on folks or other stupid laws here in MN. All old and new infrastructure is built around green transportation which is encouraged.
my bike is 5000w but i keep it to my local e bike speed limit iv had few cops stop me where i live they only give tickets out when im speeding/ being a nuance on the street, So i completely agree with you on that point
EBikes flying down bike and walking paths around 30-40mph don't help the community. I see it happen all the time. Cali will just use that to over regulate
Maybe fix the bike infrastructure so we have at least a 4ft wide bike lane. Same problem in all states. I'm in NJ and we have bike lanes that are half covered in dirt and grass an maybe a foot to ride on so I'm building my Bigniu BG-X to do 60mph so I can ride in traffic with all my roads I'm my area are 45 to 50mph. So fix the infrastructure first. It's the main problem
I live in PDX, where they've gone bike crazy for years, widening lanes, installing protected bike lanes, but they don't maintain them for sh*t. They're all full of broken glass, gravel, dirt, and now leaves and organic debris. The illegal lockdowns came and bike ridership plummeted to nothing and hasn't recovered, but they're still pouring money into building bike lanes that no one uses, but not maintaining them.
I've got to take that 1000 watt sticker off of my front motor. I can't tell if the new law mentions anything about dual hub motors. That might be a loophole for bigger riders. 2 750W peak power motors would fix the hill climbing issue.
What’s up? What’s up how you doing? I live in New York and was watching the last video on the changes law changes in California. What’s crazy is I just read? I don’t know if it’s all California or parts that the state is giving $2000 vouchers to anyone that wants to purchase an Ebike to get more cars off the road. And now they wanna change this law which is crazy there’s no way they’re gonna control it unless they start pulling person over and checking them and checking their bikes in New York. They’re trying to say they might end up making us register and license them. Do you know how many people I know I happen to be friends with Mr. E and from NYC and I know V from power lithium I live like 45 minutes away. I had just met them. I was down at his shop power lithium and I’m gonna start going on rides with them, but some of those guys on the New York City rides have like 5000 W hub motors you know, sir runs with pedal kiss but with crazy controllers and huge batteries from power lithium of course but I think it’s ridiculous. I agree and I don’t think they can control it like they think they’re gonna be able to. I don’t see what they mean by no throttle. A lot of these bikes have a throttle. I have a rev one. It has a throttle. I actually messaged you about that asking if you know how to get rid of that lag when you hit the throttle on the rev one it’s so annoying of course you got off-road and boost, but it has a throttle and that’s not the type you wanna pedal just like the lyric a lot of The Bike coming out you don’t really meant for peddling take care. I hope they don’t ruin it for everybody.
Hahahahah. Glad you mentioned the eu. But the uk still sucks. We maybe out of the eu. But still have the same laws. Naffing 250w and 15.5mph and ironically the only one good in my life leaving eu could be good about. The rest is so shite throw. But heya is the interesting thing. We have a company now that can legally sell e-bikes with 250w motor and still go up 15.5mph and have a throttle. The laws were been looked at to do 500w and maybe up to 20mph. At least you can still do some speed and more power we got. But yeah. That’s really stupid to get rid of throttle. But still peddle that speed and course. To get out the way quickly. Clearly these people are so clueless on anything.
Poor baby. Here in the province of Ontario Canada in march you will need a Insurance a license plate and attend a ebike training course for new rider. But, if you already have an ebike. You are grandfathered into the program and need to get insurance and a plate
For me, 25 mph is a good cruising eBike speed when staying out of main traffic and enjoying recreational trails, just enjoying the scenery. I have a Harley-Davidson for other purposes.
Speed limit on the freeways is between 55 and 75 in California. My car can 200+ mph. The power and top speed should be irrelevant. My e-bike has 2000watts and can hit 45+ But I don’t do those speeds. It should be up to the operator. If you exceed the limit then you should pay the price. It’s as simple as that.
Needs to be blue tooth for directing bike to assume max wattage of 750 watts and max speed 20 or 28 mph. Then you can option after that to go to maximum wattage and speeds. You could set 5 mph increment to give command.. increase power, increase power, etc.. braking will reduce power to minimum and you can say resume maximum power or increase power to your desired increment. No throttle needed. Also say mph desired and it goes to desired speed. Have soft setting or a way to change take off power. All voice commands. Black Box! Blue tooth. When you get out of any phone signal it will only give 750 watts and 20-28 mph by default until you reconnect. Reset display should be included by voice. All of this can be done. Then you can only get a speeding ticket with no way of cops being able to say you have over 750 watts or that you have gone over 28 on display.
28mph speed limit is great, however I don’t see what difference it makes if you are activating a cadence sensor with your legs or twisting a throttle to get there. The 750w peak thing makes 99% of ebikes in California already sold in recent years illegal. Even a lowly 15amp controller with a 48v battery will output much more power than 750 watts. It’s quite obvious whoever wrote the law hasn’t ever ridden an ebike and has no clue how they actually work.
When I was young I had people clock me on their cars pedaling 35 mph easily on flat ground, no GPS back then. I'm 72 now and can drive my mountain bike at 27 mph on GPS. Fatter tires than road bike so slower. I bought an ebike and it makes 20 mph then cuts out the motor but I can still pedal a 80 lbs 4 " tire bike up to 24 mph. Never given a problem in all these years of pedaling 35 mph so how do these people know I'm not pedaling and using the motor? It is very dangerous to drive a bike with cars. Remember big always wins. Governments are really only now realizing bikes and cars don't mix without risk to someones life. Bikes were here before cars and they will always be here.
My 2¢ car lobbyists, manual peddle cyclists, anti-ebike karens & darrens that want to micromanage ppls lives are causing all the hoopla about the throttle. 🙄😤
Not gonna be any recalls, bike makers knew these types of laws were coming, that why they sold them under the "off-road use only ⚠️" label. It should be the same as a motorcycle or moped. It should be able to go as fast as you want it too, and it should be your decision on whether or not you want to break the law. They can't let a moped and motorcycle have throttles and then single out E-bikes and e-motos and say, "Nope, no throttle for you, pedal btch"
Don't get rid of the more powerful bikes make it like a moped that way to be legal it would have to have lights turn signals a horn mirrors a plate and registration
It's so stupid, speed regulations for electric bikes should be the speed limit, and normal bikes do actually gave to follow the speed limit(or read the road)
California SB-1271 Electric bicycles, powered mobility devices, and storage batteries. Biggest change to me is no throttle's allowed on e-bikes that can go up to 28mph.
Wow dude .. it IS literally a new law 😂 🤦♂️. AB 2234 signed by Newsome to go into effect January 2025. California law bans electric bikes OVER 750W or 20 mph on motor power alone.
yea’ peddle assist, & Throttle makes the E bike illegal, But Just Thank that 12 year old & his Mom who Did not know Certain things, and Super73 Ebikes who she Took to Court, its All Crazy🤦🏽♂️😮💨, and Politics, Thanks to Frantic TV for Coverage, thats how i heard about it!!!!
When lawmakers create legislation about things they know nothing about. This is as arsebackwards as the gun laws. At this point, just get a motorcycle.
I'm in Fresno to... I don't even have my e-bike yet I was getting ready to buy one either a motor goat or the lyrics graffiti x. So and I have a scooter 250cc so why don't they just let bikes that go over 40 miles an hour or 50 mph Have the one plate that you don't have to register every year like they used to have for the mopeds this way they don't have to worry about the 28 mph speed can you can ride it in the street if you have to it would be safer anyway
This whole thing is not right, if we purchased these bikes when they were legal, it doesn’t make sense for them to suddenly declare our previous purchases illegal. These bikes are expensive, and most of them come with throttles, whether it’s a thumb throttle or a twist throttle. It’s unreasonable to tell someone who spent thousands of dollars on a bike just a few months ago or who have owned them for years that it’s now illegal to own. I also suspect that larger companies like Super73, Electra, Giant, along with many others which produce throttle equipped bikes, will take legal action if the bike sold prior to 2025 is considered illegal. A recall of all bikes sold before 2025 would be impractical and infeasible.
You're absolutely right. This is gonna turn into the EU sooner or later. Just lame as shit. Let's just hope 750w allowable is the lowest it's gonna get. lol.
yeah them Public bikes Are being Hacked, No Helmets being Worn, and Some of them Are Fast Too!!! So… Where are the Regulations for them????🤷🏿♂️😩😳, Just Crazzee… Wild Smh….
ANOTHER ANSWER TO THIS ONE IS TO HAVE [ AGE RESTRICTIONS ON ALL 3 SPEEDS LAWS ] SOMETIMES TEENAGERS ARE NOT READY FOR SPEEDS 20 + MPH EVEN SOME ADULTS . THE GOVERMENT HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DOING AGE RESTRICTIONS LAWS AND THEY NEED TO KEEP DOING THINGS THAT WAY . THE CURRENT TECHNOLOGY TODAY IS MORE ADVANCE SO THE RESPONSIBILITY MUST BE A DEMAND SO THE GOVERMENT AND BIG COMPANIES WONT FEEL THAT THEY HAVE TO STEP IN ON EVERYTHING . IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT THERE'S ALWAYS SOME KIND OF [ DOMINO EFFECT ] WHEN IT COME TO HUMAN SURVIVAL . ( EVERYTHING MATTERS BUT NOTHING MOVES )
750W is not enough for some of these hills. Fine 28 MPH. Okay Allow me a 5000-10000w Bike to ALLOW ME to MAINTAIN 25MPH UPHILL. Brain Rot Politicians. OH BUT INSIDER TRADING IS OKAY RIGHT PELOSI?
Hey north valley ebike diy builder here I have a Schwinn stingray o.c. chopper with a 48v battery and a modest motor in the front my controller feeds between 11-1300 watts that has been safety inspected and passed by the chp I have a skills and safety certificate as well as a m1 and for 2 and a half years been mixed use bike paths and city roadway with no incident. I called my chp office and asked what this law means for me? They don't even know nor does the PD or sheriff department the cops have seen me interact with traffic safely signals and all I wear a dot helmet out of common sense. And it seems like I'm being punished because Karen. Doesn't want to tell her kid no or take responsibility for her own actions. I don't post my speeds because now that's an admission of guilt. But just say I keep pace with traffic and can safely getaway from distracted drivers. 20-28 mph is not safe for anyone who is commuting in city especially in the valley I'm almost tempted to go full genx and full outlaw with my triple 48v dual controller 2 wheel drive build (2 "750w"x4 motors 🥸3k watts each I built for drag racing) and say fuck it
A bunch of things to cover. Peak wattage. Bikes should have a non-descriptive motor . No information. #2: have a almost totally dead small battery to be ready to switch over to. No possible way to achieve even 5 mph on a dyno. Peak wattage probably like 200 watts. Flip over to this dead battery and only able to turn on display and lights. No power to motor almost. Action #3 reset for display information needs to be one touch and fast. Cops gather no info from previous ride. Step #4 Blue tooth and voice command app to E bike. Tell e bike increase speed and it does without a throttle. Say "40 mph" and bike jumps to 40mph . Brake cuts off power until you say resume 40mph. This can all be done in easy fashion. Setting limits and speeds by voice command. Even limit your peak wattage output could be done by an app and voice command on the fly.😂
it's not about safety if it was then FSR would be illegal now to even have in a car. @mrcentralDriver your wrong it's about the auto industry lobbying to make these things useless so u cant use them for work there scared.
Theoretically this makes ebikes that don't fit the criteria laid out in 1271 mopeds, right? Well if the DMV will register my ebike as a moped without a Certificate of Title and a VIN, I guess that's ok. It's only $23. You don't need insurance for mopeds in California. I'll grumble a bit if I have to get a M2 license, but I guess I'll do it. But now that my ebike is registered as a moped, I can't ride it in bicycle lanes! I HAVE TO ride in traffic with cars! Does ANYONE think that's a good idea? For my son's Magicycle Cruiser that exceeds 750W peak, and has a top speed of 29mph on a good day? (Throttle only, ghost peddling at that speed.) Or my 1000W Kepler? (Throttle only top speed: 31-34 mph) For any other regular ebike that's offers riders the choice between class 2 20mph top speed and class 3 28mph max pedal assist? There must be some middle ground.
Yall know the laws and ignore them, and people record themselves doing stupid stuff all the time. If you want to go fast on your bike then you want a motorcycle and need to get it tagged and insured it's that simple. People want the hassle free classification of an ebike without it actually being considered an ebike
@@joeboyer5980 most don't bother buying them because they're scared and usually opt for a motorcycle at that price point. Most seem to like the 25mph ones and those are budget friendly
They should put a age restriction because there is a lot of older folks enjoying the freedom to move around I own a bike I got one for my grandpa who can barely walk he enjoys it immensely
Thanks for the info I just don't understand why they have to be more strict about throttle because my grandpa is not going to use a pedals that's why I bought it for him it's not a super 73 or Surin but it does has throttle and it does go about 28 mph it looks like your basic bike with a battery on it
@@Trillville43 My bad, I thought elected officials made the laws. Guess California is different. You can inject drugs into your body as you shit on the streets, then steal upwards of $900. God forbid you are using a throttle on your ebike. You voted for this.
Seems to me this law is more targeted to the young kids acting like fools on them. As long as you ride common sense hopefully youll be ok. We will see.
Stop reading my mind 😂 I was saying all these same things when I heard about this new dumb AF law. All this can easily be done with simple speed limits. Sidewalk 20mph max (and like we do in the military with runners/walkers on the roadside) if passing a pedestrian slow down to 10 mph and give them a lil space then you can speed back up. Bikelane 28mph or 30mph cause 28 is just a weird number to pick 😂. If riding in the road, keep up with the flow of traffic if sharing the lane with cars, just like reg bikes and stay as far right as you can. It's not that hard, these "law makers" are idiots. the power limit is dumb as hell too, just like you said climbing a hill with a weak 750 watt motor isn't gonna happen, most bike riders can't even pedal up those either and have to walk or carry their bikes to the top. Also yeah ya can go buy a car with 1000hp and do 200mph so they gonna start limiting car/truck hp and max speed even more now too? The throttle thing is also even dumber and also discriminates against disabled people. I've got bad knees and back and much more so I wouldn't be able to pedal constantly and would need a throttle to keep going, but screw us right cali, they must want law suits 🤣. The only thing I'd say I agree with so far is the UL cert. requirement, that's just a pure safety thing, even tho UL isn't even a gov. agency 😂.
HEY SUPER73 ARE YOU WAITING FOR AN EARTHQUAKE TO HIT BEFORE YOU RELEASE THE ⚡️C1X⚡️HOW ABOUT A MACHINE THAT EXEMPLIFIES WHAT YOU REALLY NEED TO CREATE FOR YOUR PASSION FOR SPEED ON E(BICYCLES) NOW HOW ABOUT USE THAT SPEED FACTOR IN YOUR E(MOTORCYCLE) 🔥C1X⚡️🙂🇺🇲
it isnt safer without throttle ... when im at that speed and need to focus on pedaling and my breathing rather than on the street and around me it is senseless ... it will only make it hard for street acrobats ... instead of forbidding wheelies in trafic they come at all of us ...
Could be a human right to have transportation like this if we're allowed to have guns, we should be able to allowed to have e bikes .. that can get up a hill with a throttle . It's more dangerous to peddle while going 28 ... Americans with disability action get involved.. it is discriminatory towards heavy people ..
They’re not going out of business because it’s still legal to have throttle limited to 20 mph on a 28 mph pedal assisted bikes according to the new California law.
Ebike motors should be based on continuous watts not peak watts. It takes more watts to start a ebike moving and up to speed than one thinks. Besides this is the same bs people whined about when mopeds and motorcycles were coming out.
.. Certain groups could not police themselves. These lazy law authors are uninformed of the stats autos trucks buses are judged not by capability to go fast but by operation why are bikes segmented by capability. The law assumes random and situational inspection which is always a bad practice of enforcement! Also, It is the association problem where you are assumed to be the same as other pev riders. I respect others and though I can go 50mph I go 10 or less around pedestrians and stop for elderly or small kids to pass. I wave to every biker hold my hands up to receive a wave back. I’m no saint but I look like I’m respectful of others. 1 in 20 bikers sneer at me they are the ones that assume I am an enemy just by virtue of being on a PEV ..
California did the same thing with firearms and it resulted in a lady bringing a lawsuit because her pistol that came with a15 round capacity from the manufacture was suddenly a felon for owning it.
Older class 3 e bikes with throttle that go 28mph are grandfathered in it only means that shops can't sell them new anymore but 2nd hand bikes can still be sold or bought since mine is grandfathered in it just became more valuable then it was new same for other classes so basically all they did is cost businesses alot of money
Those e-bikes aren’t going to get grandfathered, shops can still sell them, Class 3 e-bikes that have pedal assisted up to 28 mph and have 20 throttle limit are still legal according to the new law.
This is concerning. I have a c3strom and I hope people that have bikes with a throttle can still use them. Ebikes are expensive & hopefully we can still use these ebikes, otherwise like 90 percent of them won't be legal anymore!
People with have e-bikes with a throttle can still ride them on the street if the throttle is limited to 20 mph and have a pedal assist only on 28 mph according to the new law in California.
I’m not saying I agree with the laws but these bikes put lawmakers in a tough position. A 14 year old can’t buy a Tesla but a 14 year old can get an eBike. Now you have someone who isn’t old enough to drive and doesn’t understand the rules of the road driving on public roads. They have to figure out some way to regulate them to keep people as safe as possible. It’s still a relatively new industry but at the same time an ebike is basically just the electric version of the two stroke mopeds we drove in the 70s and 80s. Kids aren’t allowed to drive those anymore. I’ve never understood why ebikes should be any different just because the drivetrain is electric. I think a better solution would be to just do what they did with mopeds. Gas or electric they should all follow the same laws. Gas and electric cars don’t have different laws. You should need to have a drivers license to operate an ebike on public roads. Problem solved. Kids should not be operating something that’s self propelled on public roads. I think that’s where the new throttle law is coming from but they should just go all the way and say you need to have a license like they did with mopeds.
No. No. NO. We CANNOT keep using "the children" to try to push political agendas. 14 year olds CANNOT get ebikes "on their own". What 14 year old do you know that has $1000-$4000 of expendable cash lying around? Negligent parenting is the problem, not ebikes. And we should not be restricting adults for the actions of children who shouldn't have them in the first place.
@@En4cer2K9 so you want to pass a law preventing parents from buying their kids certain things? How exactly would that work? If I’m a parent should I be allowed to buy my kids rollerblades? My folks said they were too dangerous. Who gets to decide what’s too dangerous? My parents? You? And how is public health and safety a political issue? Which party cares about public health and safety and which party doesn’t? Public health and safety is the only actual job of the government and not a bipartisan issue. Telling parents what they can and can’t buy for their kids is up to the parents. Not the government. The government’s job is to tell them whether or not they’re allowed to use them on public roads around other people. What a dumb comment.

Which is why we need more police, rather than defunding it. Ebikes aren't the problem, lack of police checking and ticketing is.
Agree @edwardferrari7342
They’re still legal.
Cali burned down because they passed that dumbass law!
The law has no effect on us. Plus the law is still the same as before, so no need to freak out!
Ive said it many times, why anyone wants to live in Comifornia is beyond me. Yeah it has pretty areas to live in but dang restrictions galore..
It’s exaggeration because the throttle is still legal in e-bikes if it’s limited to 20 mph and if the e-bike is 28 mph pedal assist.
You guys should protest this. This is absolutely insane
What are they going to do with public ebikes?!
I’m glad you covered this topic and I totally agree with
H you 100%
I once rode my Fuji Raleigh road racer to 40 mph but consistently rode 28-35 mph for long distances ( I still have it).
I'm out here in Arizona and for class 3 ebikes our rules say we're exempt from taxes
I think I’d leave the state. Terrible leadership as seen in LA now.
Nah, it’s still good.
@@UltraBrianyo GTFO plzz you’re in everybody’s comment section shilling for a state who doesn’t care about it’s citizens, liberal s••t hole garbage 🗑️
Why did California do this? Because of people using e-bikes to avoid having to register a motorcycle
California didn’t do this, the law has always been the same as before, so stop freaking out!
That's wouldn't of been a thing till Luigi got his getaway car as an E bike now the elites want them regulated
They need to do what sparks cycle works does.
Give each bike a VIN
good start
They will, then watch the taxe$ for it roll!
i agree, they should have zero restrictions, only enforce speed limits... since in the end that's all that really matters
You are grandfathered into the program and need to get insurance and a plate
i have a 2000 watt and I ride at 18 mile an hr peddle assist we have a lot of cops around.
For me, 25 mph is a good cruising eBike speed when staying out of main traffic and enjoying recreational trails, just enjoying the scenery. I have a Harley-Davidson for other purposes.
Here i was wanting to get an ebike to ride to work.. i held back because i knew they would screw it up somehow
Speed limit on the freeways is between 55 and 75 in California.
My car can 200+ mph.
The power and top speed should be irrelevant.
My e-bike has 2000watts and can hit 45+
But I don’t do those speeds.
Cant have nothing in california🙄🙄
Facts!! The one thing cali politicians don't seem to care about is actual CRIME
Thats ebike riders fault
Demonrats keeping people down.
We can still have 28 mph pedal assist and 20 throttle limit which is still legal according to the new law, so we still have everything in California.
@@Trillville43nope, that’s nobodies fault.
This isn’t a new law, so I don’t get why it’s a surprise for people.
So and I have a scooter 250cc so why don't they just let bikes that go over 40 miles an hour or 50 mph
Have the one plate that you don't have to register every year like they used to have for the mopeds this way they don't have to worry about the 28 mph speed can you can ride it in the street if you have to it would be safer anyway
Cuz there's no money making in that. New laws implemented always come with a price.
Welcome to CA
Let's just hope 750w allowable is the lowest it's gonna get. lol.
These laws are made for street riding, im sure the companies are going to still make off-road ebikes to get around that bs
so basically to sum it up, I can't use my throttle to reach my max speed of 28 mph?
You are so right
yeah them Public bikes Are being Hacked, No Helmets being Worn, and Some of them Are Fast Too!!!
20-28 mph is not safe for anyone who is commuting in city especially in the valley I'm almost tempted to go full genx and full outlaw with my triple 48v dual controller 2 wheel drive build (2 "750w"x4 motors 🥸3k watts each I built for drag racing) and say fuck it
Sorry got carried away
Just like the EU
If they want my ebike they gonna have to go through brock samson to get it
A bunch of things to cover.
How everyone doing today?
Ive seen stand on scooters for adults that go 55 mph
An absolute abomination of 4 years wasted.
It’s nonexistent
Cars don't need speed capacity laws😂😂😂😂😂
(Throttle only, ghost peddling at that speed.)
Or my 1000W Kepler? (Throttle only top speed: 31-34 mph)
For any other regular ebike that's offers riders the choice between class 2 20mph top speed and class 3 28mph max pedal assist?
There must be some middle ground.
Yall know the laws and ignore them, and people record themselves doing stupid stuff all the time. If you want to go fast on your bike then you want a motorcycle and need to get it tagged and insured it's that simple. People want the hassle free classification of an ebike without it actually being considered an ebike
California will have a Ebike buyback for a $50 gift card.
Time to start printing 750 peak watt stickers 😂
I have 1
I think the new California law will make sure some bikes are mopeds now, that’s all
Of course. We would all then know the rea$on why if they decide to go that route.
Does this apply to electric scooters also now?
No not yet
Give it time since some scooters can go as fast as 80 mph
@@joeboyer5980 most don't bother buying them because they're scared and usually opt for a motorcycle at that price point. Most seem to like the 25mph ones and those are budget friendly

They should put a age restriction because there is a lot of older folks enjoying the freedom to move around I own a bike I got one for my grandpa who can barely walk he enjoys it immensely
That's part of the new law, age restrictions.
Thanks for the info I just don't understand why they have to be more strict about throttle because my grandpa is not going to use a pedals that's why I bought it for him it's not a super 73 or Surin but it does has throttle and it does go about 28 mph it looks like your basic bike with a battery on it

The only thing I'd say I agree with so far is the UL cert. requirement, that's just a pure safety thing, even tho UL isn't even a gov. agency 😂.
I feel bad for you Americans paying taxes basically working for free just to get your hard earned money taken away and now this smh 🤦♂️

it isnt safer without throttle ... when im at that speed and need to focus on pedaling and my breathing rather than on the street and around me it is senseless ... it will only make it hard for street acrobats ... instead of forbidding wheelies in trafic they come at all of us ...
It’s still legal to have throttle if the thumb throttle is limited to 20 mph.
Could be a human right to have transportation like this if we're allowed to have guns, we should be able to allowed to have e bikes .. that can get up a hill with a throttle . It's more dangerous to peddle while going 28 ... Americans with disability action get involved.. it is discriminatory towards heavy people ..
What about those bikes on the beaches for rent past 20 they have throttle so all these people are going to go out of business
They’re not going out of business because it’s still legal to have throttle limited to 20 mph on a 28 mph pedal assisted bikes according to the new California law.
I feel you brother CALIFORNIA sucks
Ebike motors should be based on continuous watts not peak watts. It takes more watts to start a ebike moving and up to speed than one thinks. Besides this is the same bs people whined about when mopeds and motorcycles were coming out.
E-bikes aren’t based on peak watts, it’s based on continuous watts.
Class 3 is throttle😂😂😂😂😂😂
It's a free country... oh wait no it's not.

Cali sucks plain and simple bro.
California did the same thing with firearms and it resulted in a lady bringing a lawsuit because her pistol that came with a15 round capacity from the manufacture was suddenly a felon for owning it.
That didn’t happen with e-bikes.
Stupid l take about pedaling
Older class 3 e bikes with throttle that go 28mph are grandfathered in it only means that shops can't sell them new anymore but 2nd hand bikes can still be sold or bought since mine is grandfathered in it just became more valuable then it was new same for other classes so basically all they did is cost businesses alot of money
Those e-bikes aren’t going to get grandfathered, shops can still sell them, Class 3 e-bikes that have pedal assisted up to 28 mph and have 20 throttle limit are still legal according to the new law.
Wait. The hell. That’s a good point what’s gonna happen with our bikes since they’re going to be considered illegal now
Our bikes aren’t going to be considered illegal to ride in the streets, so just calm down Jesus.
New York no one under age of 16 can ride Ebikes also we are looking at mandatory registration insurance and plates for ebikes soon
@ I think that’s smart.
@@craigcampbell1843 I thought so too that would make it so u will technically have to have a license to be able legally to ride one
No. No.
