- To most of you, he has no name. He is the Poggers guy. or the Pogchamp guy. Or something else of the nature. But to those who know his story better, Gootecks is a man who's story is that of a great tragedy. In this video, we will kickstart a new era of Fallen Titans by exploring that very story.

I’m surprised by the raw amount of comments here saying they never heard of him. The FGC is quite a bubble I suppose.
But yeah, the FGC is niche. You can’t compare FGC views against all of UA-cam, you have to gauge the popularity in comparison to the total community. Just imo something to consider.
A quick clarification about what you said arounf 11:38 about Mike Ross leaving because gameplays not going his way: actually his frustration was with the game itself, Streer Fighter 5 did a lot of things that didn't float well with the community, especially with long time players like them, for starters the game got rid of long crazy impossible combos in favor of more stream lined ones, back on SF4 linking moves could only be done within one frame (1 frame links, a 1/60 second to input the next move), meaning even the simplest combo was a feat, the trade-of being that long "infinite" combos were posible ONLY if you were like stupid awesome at the game, for SF5 Capcom noted that a lot of players got into the game to try and do those long combos and dropped the game harder than a bag of bricks when they realized how much work that meant, so they "fixed it" by changing the time you have to link moves to 3 frames (3/60 of a second) wich doesn't sound so much better until you play it, most people will feel the input window to be longer than it actually is because the brain is awesome like that, so everyone was doing this impresively long looking combos but in reality those combos were almost guaranteed to come out and boringly linear, in order to "balance it" now you had a lot less freedome, like you would actually see your character punch or kick the oponent but if it wasn't programed to be a part of the combo as the designers wanted, it just wouldn't connect, so everyone was doing the exact same combo as you, and to top it off in Capcom's e-sport centric focus, in order to keep the Meta always moving and guessing they tried to regularly buff characters giving more attention to under used ones, a good idea on paper until it became a game of playing favorites, the tier list was always changing for the wrong reasons, often because the fixes meant making certain moves for a character bullshit while killing off abilities for other charachters, they used to say the actuall reward for wining a tournament was to get your character nerfed, and while for us casually competitive players meant the online was anoying and would usually get flooded by Capcom's favorite of the week, for pros it meant there was no actuall tier liest, frame data didn't last for long and learning a character felt like a waste of time when it could get destroyed on the next patch, add all of those things together and the real reason Mike Ross left was because it got frustrated with the new e-sport culture Capcom tried to build off with SF5 and was a vocal advocate against e-sport culture in fighting games when other games tried to follow in Capcom's foot steps, now days the balancing and the way Capcom handles DLC and so in SF5 has gone a bit better and thank god Onochi (SF5's original director) is forever gone, but it is too late.

All college students know. it is the first thing you are taught even at high school when writing a research paper. Plus he is not even an epidemiologist, or a virologist NOR a biologist that concerns with viruses and bacteria. How in the fucking hell will he have the background and knowledge to create such paper?? its like if pewdiepie were to write a research paper on terraforming mars. like no, it doesnt work that way because he wants to. Research papers are the culmination of people's years of hard work and knowledge within a field and extensive research and supervision from a respected professor of the said field. It isn't a thing you wake up in the damn morning and decide to do.

Man, I was a follower of Excellent Adventures during its golden years, the Gootecks and Mike Ross combo was amazing.
I remember actually meeting Gootecks back during 2017 at E3, even got my hat signed by him, and even by then he seemed tired, broken, and self-loathing, it was pretty sad.
Same tho, I remember tuning in for the 2012 holiday special ahahah. And yeah, it was clear in all the lead up to the end that there was rough shit going on behind the scenes. Constant hiatuses and 'Final Episodes' only to come back a year later, Gootecks seemed way more interested in starting esports clubs and being vaguely predatory about (young) women than he did actually playing the game.

Hydroxychloroquine, C18H26ClN3O, usually administered as hydroxychloroquine sulfate, C18H28ClN3O5S, is used to treat Malaria and rarely lupus and arthritis as the chloroquine breaks down parts of the malaria, -but is also an immunosuppressive iirc,- so while it was thought that it might have similar effects on COVID19 (which doesn't really pan out, since it wasn't used on previous coronaviruses of the same family, like SARS2, so I don't think anyone that knew what they were talking about expected a successful response with COVID19, though I suppose it was worth a shot, since it could have saved lives if test proved successful early on). As it turns out it's completely useless for COVID19, so you are exposing yourself to all the side effects -that can potentially inhibit your immuno-response- for all the upside of a placebo at best.
-edit: since it is an anti-inflammatory immunosuppressive, it is entirely possible that you could THINK it was helping since it was shutting down your immune systems inflammatory response, but it does nothing to destroy any part of the virus structure, so, unlike malaria, it is not a useful as a treatment to COVID19 and in most cases is probably just causing more problems down the line.-
edit: ignore what I said about it being an immunosupressive, apparently I was missinformed and that isn't a major aspect, still not a cure for COVID though

As an FGC member and a long fan of Mike Ross and Gootecks excellent adventures series watching his slow decent into madness was heart breaking. I have watched every single episode of excellent adventures and its still to this day some of the best fighting game content out there.

I knew Gootecks back around 2010. He is such a different person today. I think his story is similar to a lot of the people he found himself associating with as of late. These people once were full of hopes and dreams in their youth and for whatever reasons, their lives never became what they thought it should be. Their egos never allowed them to reconcile this and the only way to validate their existence was not to admit that they were wrong but to instead believe everyone else is wrong. He was a fun guy back in the day and it's sad to see him like this. I hope he gets the help he needs and can turn his life around.

Poggers guy the Unpoggers was a dark lord of the memes, so powerful and so wise he could use his face to influence the masses to create memes. He had such knoledge in the dark side he could even keep the ones he cared of from unpogging. He became so memeful the only thing he wss scared of was unpogging, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught Twitch everything he knew, and then Twitch killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from unpog, but not himself.

I can only think of two gamer scientists, and one of them quit their job as a scientist to play video games for a living, so the future doesn't look to bright for them.
The closest thing I could even think of to compare to a "gamer scientist" is MatPat. A man that literally makes THEORIES out of shreds of evidence to create a thesis that only holds water because it can't be disproven until the next DLC retcons it out of existence.
And he defintely wouldn't approve of anti-COVID diatribe since he can use his brain and probably cite more sources for a FNAF backstory than pogman did in his paper (if there are any that don't parrot his thoughts. I won't give it the dignity of being read rn)

I'm an old folk and an old-school hardcore FGC-head (way before internet videos, when we watched west coast tournaments on tape, haha). As late as 2016 Ryan and Mike were a hell of a beating heart of our community. In a weird way, SFV being garbage destroyed a lot of lives and minds, maybe none harder than Ryan's. SF4 becoming a huge thing revitalized our community in ways you couldn't believe, but I remember when the game was on its way out and it's heartbreaking. SuperArcade closing, the loss of a lot of friendly weeklies, and those last few SF4 tournaments on twitch really had this surreal, nostalgic, the-good-times-are-past feel to them. I still vaguely follow the community but Capcom can't even imagine the sort of damage they did by releasing a game that immediately lost its playerbase and slashed up the community that had been so hardcore ride-or-die for them for decades. Really sad stuff.

One, super nice guy and a legitimate force for good in the gaming scene and two, hardly a candidate because he’s still doing great. Here's an update regarding Twitch's removal of PogChamp: Since PogChamp, Pog, Poggers, etc is ingrained in Twitch culture at this point, rather than outright remove PogChamp, Twitch has sought to replace it. Starting today (1/8/21), they are, for a time, changing the PogChamp emote every 24hrs, seemingly until they come up with a permanent replacement. The first is the streamer Unroolie, who was possibly the first to tweet a photo of themselves making the Pog expression and suggesting Twitch use their face instead. I'm glad the source of the PogChamp name is such a deep reference, since it made it easy to divorce Gootecks entirely from the meme.

Watching the rise and fall of Gootecks is kind of painful for me as someone who has been a member and fan of the FGC for a long long time. Him and Mike Ross are quite frankly some of the early pioneers of the streaming and youtube as far as fighting games go. CrossCounterTV is legendary. They were going places fast until Gootecks well went crazy there's really no other way to explain it. When you see how huge twitch streamers and youtubers are today compared to what it was back then it's a shock. Mike Ross and Gootecks should probably be like on top of the world by now but nope. Dude looks like a damn zombie now it's depressing.
Please, please, PLEASE make more Fallen Titans. I fucking LOVE this series.

I read it religiously back in the day, and while the webcomic steadily declined in quality I still would say I overall liked it and I would love to see what Quinton has to say.

Fuck...I loved Mike Ross and Gootecks in Excellent Adventures/cross counter etc. Watched that shit religiously. This actually really saddens me. I watched it while I had to deal with some really dark shit and was in a terrible place. It made me feel better a little bit.
Also, his personality somewhere took a sharp turn into weirdChamp territory. As a former addict myself, who used partying to normalize my substance-use, my gut tells me that he got heavy into party drugs and lost his marbles in the process.
Capcom Pro Talk was great too. Floe was REALLY entertaining. It's a shame that Mike bounced from that, too.
