*walks into guitar center* "Can I buy every cymbal you have in stock?"
Oh yeah yeah brother
Thats what Neil Peart would say!
*I LL HAVE UR ENTIERE STOCK*
Walks into Guitar Center, "I'll take it."
Booty Jams it more like this... so how many cymbals do you want Kevan Roy: *YES*
The absolute madman has done it.
The first mortal man to learn YYZ
yeah ik wtf why is it on a grade 8 syllabus
But a seven yr old did it once,
yyz isn’t that hard lmao
Playing not impossible now writing something like that you have to be on coke 24/7 to write shit like that
the second. you're forgetting Neil Peart himself
Intro sound sped up, you could say he's... *Rushing*
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
the whole song was sped up... I don't know why he felt the need to do that - kind of ruined it for me
Nick Lambert from what I heard this was pretty much an audition tape so he wanted to show off a bit
"Are you rushing, or are you dragging?"
SMACK!!
@@MariaNickLambert it is just tormenting to listen to this at high speed [ B L A H ]!
nice...this all i have to say
But didn't you hear Krieger it's impossible!!!
I guess Neil Pert doesn't stand alone.
I legit am watching Archer rn. He said that and I watched this. You're feaking me out!!!
+TheBlackDemon1996 lol i JUST watched that episode and thought i'd check out a cover to see if it was possible. i guess even krieger can be wrong! lmfao
+MrCJduo me too lol
That is currently why I'm watching this
Would it freak you out to know then, that when I was preparing that part, I practiced it at about 20bpm faster?!? ;)
Look to me like the video was on 2:14 speed up to me.. could be wrong. Either way good job.
Would it freak you out that everyone realizes that you were speeding up the video?
I dunno man. The cymbal physics even at the crazy part seems pretty realistic to me, at sight only, thar is
i know it sounds like it
dude, you 're way short of cymbals. I expect at least another 25.
123spleege 😂😂😂
No, he needs the room to be filled with cymbals, so I'd say about 30 more. 😂
@@yoshuahs999 He knew where everyone was at any given time. I've seen Rush live a few times... Neil got nothing on him.
Yes it is. If you notice on the floor beside me, there is an analog clock, to show that it is. ;) Thanks for watching!
If you're thinking that the video is sped up, go full-screen and check out the analog clock on the floor....can't fake that. Which is exactly why it is there... ;) Thanks for watching!
I just wanted to tell you that I quit playing drums years ago (work, family, kids, etc.) and thanks to your inspiration, I'm going to play again. This blew me away. You are an amazing talent.
This is one of the most flattering comments I have ever received, thank you! I'm really excited for you to get back on the kit! Please don't hesitate to hit me up and let me know how it's going!
funny - I started playing about five years ago and this has inspired me to quit!
2:09 3,2,1 and the LSD kicks in. How else are you able to play like that?
But seriously props to Kevan
The LSD helped me create that part, but it was the cocaine that helped me play it!! hahaha! Joking, of course... ;) Thanks for watching, Kev!
KevanFnRoy
Damn, Dude - I'm exhausted just from WATCHING that... :-) I actually like it! I'll NEVER be that good, but I like your take on a couple of sections.
epickett63
I promise you that you absolutely CAN play any of this, and more! It's only a difference in seat time, my friend. If you didn't notice the link for it, I did a lesson on the middle part that slows everything right down, too. It's actually not that complicated!? I didn't say it was easy!...haha...but it's not complicated. Thanks for watching!
KevanFnRoy Sure...if I practiced 4 hours every day, I could play this in about a year. :-) Unfortunately, I just don't have that kind of time...
epickett63 Forgot to say, I *will* check out the link. :-)
Are you aware that you are an octopus?
yes...an octopus....nailed it!

2:14 uh um i dont uhh know if this was in the original song sir. sir pls stop. s-SIR NO. NO NOOOOOOOOO HES DRUMMED TOO FAAAAAR NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Seems like someone has been drinking skooma again. Also TIL Wilburgur has great music taste
Wtf is this dude doing here?
@@cowardflame6021 I haven't rewatched it mupptiple times and Cannot figure out wtf he was going for
Skooma man is here
I don't know why many UA-cam drummers insist on calling their own versions of the songs they are playing "drum cover".
At 3:18 at the end of the fill he hits the crash, and then with his other hand, he grabs it and hits the china at the same time
Yes.
wtffff...didn't even see that
watched 3 times at .75 speed and my brain still cant understand it
Dude, wtf. Didn’t notice that
As we went to grab the cymbal he let the sticks fall and hit the cymbal
walks into guitar center
- How many cymbals would you like?
- yes.
This song is hard enough to play at normal speed so to have the technical ability to play it at a faster tempo is unbelievable. The dude is on 🔥🔥🔥🔥
haha, well thank you very much, Alex! Thanks for watching! :)
Thanks, Zach! I've been playing for about 19 years. You definitely *can* learn to do stuff like this. Check out the Metal Drumming Mastery site link in the description, on the Rants page, I break down exactly how I execute that whole middle part... ;) Thanks for watching!
Archer Season 3 Episode 11 brought me here
KREIGER!!!!
ah, im not the only one.
i heard this was impossible to play
It didn't bring me here, but it made me think about it!
Neil Peart stands alone
That middle section just blew my socks off.
I thought I had my finger on the fast forward button. Wow!!!
Thanks for your comment and suggestion! I will add it to the potential list! ;)
A Dream Theater cover is DEFINITELY needed! :) Thank you for the specific song suggestions!
we need dance of eternity or overture 1928 strange deja vu better
I just watch Mike Portneys cover this guy did a better job
My dude. You are truly insane, at 2:14 you dropped my jaw man, seriously amazing drumming.
Mr Tiddles it’s sped up
Manz in 2x speed i swear look at the movement of his body
@@georgethedrummer8501 he has a clock next to him to prove he isn't lol
Not alien- Cyborg. :p Thanks for watching!
haha, yes you have. Thanks for watching!
Fucking sped it up too, what a boss
i think it had to be sped up because of copyright
Sped it up AFTER he played it. Look around @2:26 you can see the video is sped up.
Kevan...I have been a RUSH fan for over 30 years and I must say that is the best drumming to YYZ I have ever seen here on YT. You are what I would consider a new "Neil Peart". Absolutely flawless in rendition and creativity. Bravo!!!
You are too kind, my good friend! Thanks for watching!
You need to get out more!!! Far from the best that's for dam sure!!!!
hahaha, thanks for watching!! :)
It looks like it, doesn't it. I can assure you it is all in real time! ;) Thanks for watching!
It’s like he’s playing on neil Pert’s set it’s huge. Fits the song
Trapped inside a drumset of emotions!
Couldn’t stop shaking my head. Blew me away dude great job 8 years later
Thanks John! I really appreciate that!
Thanks for watching and for the great question! I'm actually going to put together a video to answer your question, as there are a number of exercises I think can really help! Stay tuned..... ;)
Great God, what on Earth did my eyes just see? That was unreal! Perfectly played, you're such a fantastic drummer!
GCX Thank you for the kind word! Thanks for watching!
2:25 is it just me?... or did he speed it up a little there 😂
Nuke Vex it’s speed up totally
without a doubt
Kind of looks like it was filmed at a lower speed then sped up. His head movement is jerky.
Every bit of this video is in real time. The clock on the floor is there to prove it. One take, no edits.
Thanks for watching!
The fucker speed up the whole vid
haha, well I'm glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching! :)
That is so wonderful to know! Thanks!
Definitely Peart tempo . I love it !! DUDE YOU NEED TO GET WITH GEDDY I'M SERIOUS !!!
Damn... These little drum solos between the bass solos were so freaking amazing. You have so much speed, it looks like a freaking robot playing. This was the coolest cover I've seen by far.
This is a demonstration of percussion mastery if there ever was one.
You are far too kind. Thank you for watching!
Since 1981 Neil has come a longggggg way with this solo if you listen to it WOW but he has just added stuff here and there pretty kewl, Go Neil !
How it feels to chew Five Gum.
*this video*
Stimulate your senses
Matt Hahahaha
No
Beautiful cover, brother. I still can't believe that pattern you put over the guitar solo. Freaking epic.
Thanks, Andrew!
That was sick!!!! I've played the drums my entire life (53 yrs) .... Your talent level is off the chart!!! I was born with some natural talent from my dad who was a drummer but I never worked at it....You obviously have!!! Congrats on your hard work -- you are truly amazing!!!
Yeh I think Neil would be impressed. Awesome cover.
Like how can someone have that much accuracy and just make it flow. I have a new respect for drummers
Thank you for watching, Brennen!
Thanks for watching! :)
That's probably the most beautiful drum sets i've ever seen. You're an amazing drummer, keep up the good work.
Thank you for the kind words, Robert!
Well, I came here ready to be disappointed, first thing that struck me was the slight resemblance to Time Machine in your kit. But when you started...I stand very, very corrected. Good job.
Thank you for your kind words! :) The ride is a 22" Zildjian A Ping. It's definitely got some cut!!! ;)
As a long time Rush fanatic and lover of the talent that is Neil Peart this was great to watch. I dabbled with drums in my teens, I dreamt of being able play along to YYZ and La Villa Strangiato...but this video has made me realise you guys have a skill level I'd never achieve.
Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing!
Thank YOU for the kind words! One thing I can tell you though, is that the only difference between "guys like us" and yourself, is seat time. What you're seeing in the video above is not "natural talent," it's years and years of practice. I guarantee you could achieve the same, given enough time behind the kit!
You make it look so easy
Random Boris That's all part of the illusion.... ;)
It is easy haha
***** Not sure why you would assume that lol
Boris S I don't think you noticed the bass work.... legs of steel
ok i dont know if im the only one seeing this but right around the 2:20 mark it started to look like the video had been recorded at a much slower speed, and then sped up. i say this because as a fellow drummer i have never seen a cymbal stop moving that fast, and ive never seen any thing move as fast as his arms where during this video.
but having said that he still did an amazing job on the cover!!
+kyle Joslin I saw the same. Even his body looks weird. But what can we say? Haha, It's not like that changes anything, the guy is a monster!
+kyle Joslin Hey, in Kevan's words..."that's all part of the illusion". 8)
There's a clock on the floor to the left of him he put there explicitly so he could tell people and prove that he wasn't speeding the video up by telling them to look at the second hand.
Xavier Tech and Music Very VERY good observation!
haha, Roger, you flatter me! No KFR swag, as of yet... Although, we are developing some really cool shirt designs for the drumming site! We hope to have them released through the summer! ;)
haha, Thanks again, Brian! I hope you can get back on the kit soon! :)
WTF did I just see? Amazing!
Absolutely flawless! You've got to be the best drummer I've seen on UA-cam!
Alex Davidson Thank you for the kind words, Alex!
KevanFnRoy Neil Peart might have you beat, but it would be a close one!! Great job!!
+KevanFnRoy Hi Kevan. I have to agree with that assessment. Your drumming technique is the best that I have seen on youtube to date. Regarding your amazing kit. Do you have any videos focusing on that amazing drum set?
This guy's awesome, but I think hands down the best drummer on UA-cam is Josh Stefen
Steffen*
I learned that groove at 2:15 when i was like 16 and now its like my default thing i do whenever i hop on any drumset lol
This drum set is every kids dream and every neighbours nightmare
Man, you are so fast and accurate I thought the video was at a faster speed but its not.......you're AWESOME!!!!......How old were you when you first started playing the drums?
Great cover man, the sped up tempo made it even better
Thanks, Rob! Thanks for watching!
The average Guitar Center doesn’t stick that many cymbals...
Thanks for the feedback! :)
*you're* The beautiful thing about art, is that it is subjective. You don't have to like it. By the way- This is a DRUM cover!!!!...not an album track or guitar showcase. Drum. Cover.
I feel like this dude needs to stop and think about which cymbal he wants to use whenever he needs to use one
Is it just me or does the tempo here seem "Rushed"?
WAS I RUSHING OR DRAGGING
yes, it is extremely faster
He speeded up 15bpm over studio version, look description
Wow you are amazing! I think you came out the womb with a drum set.
haha, luckily for my mother, I did not... Thanks for watching!
There is a difference between drummers and artists. Drummers focus on skill applied to a song with the goal impressing the audience with their skill surpassing the original. Most add their own take without regard to the music itself.
Artists apply their skill to support the original, enhancing what the original songwriters intended. This.. This is art. This is an artist! Respect for the band, song, musical composition and Truly showing songwriters skill with love and care to just the right parts to enhance!
Thank you for your kind word of support, Scott!
Why the hell is the song sped up?
Why the hell not?
Kinda messes up the song IMO.
Still, great playing, as long as the video isn't sped up as well ;)
Force
That's the beauty of art- it is totally subjective. ;) Video is indeed in real time. You may notice the clock on the floor beside me....can't fake that. Thanks for watching!
More fun to play sped up.
Force
next you'll be saying he's wrong for having so many china cymbals, there's no wrong way to play a song except to play it perfectly as it was written, no creative spin
Damn dude, you're an insanely skilled drummer, but I hope you realize this is not exactly what Neil Peart does in the song. You over complicated it quite a bit. If that was your intention, then dude, amazing job! But when you make your own music, the best drummers drum for the music, not for the skill
Wow amazing. I set the playback speed to 0.75 and really enjoyed watching your drum skills. I watched it three times already.
Thank you for noticing and for the kind words!! I think a lot of people miss the subtleties... ;) Thanks for watching!
Krieger: *weeps softly into drum set*
haha, thanks! I have MANY tips for a beginning drummer! Where to begin!?!? Send me a message with a couple specifics things that are challenging you, I'll see if I can help out! ;)
Thanks very much! Yes, I sped it up by about 15bpm and then played to that. ;)
Thanks, Rodrigo! You will very likely see one if not both of those bands being covered on my channel here.... ;)
why cant i stop watching this video?...I know! Seriously dude, your bridge could only be replicated by a robot. Unhuman. AWESOME!!!
As a rush fan ... this was bad ass ...
Man this is awesome. The energy, flying all over the kit. Rock on!
Thanks very much! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the support, David! That roll is a sextuplet with syncopated accents.
Wow great !
Kevan all I can say is Neil would be proud.. absolutely perfection.. keep playing my man..
David, thank you for the kind words of support, my friend! Very much appreciated! Thanks for watching!
I know Kevin personally. Extremely nice guy. Obviously an amazing drummer and very humble. I sat down at that kit and had no idea what to do. Lol.
Wow, thanks Scott!! You absolutely humble me! Thanks so much for watching! :)
By far the best drum cover of this song on UA-cam. I come back to this atleast once a month just to admire the sheer talent displayed.
thats amazing.....and a WHOLE lot of BRASS on your kit....woow
Dam!!!!!!
That boy can play👍👍👍
Man, I watched it again and I watched your lesson for it. awesome! I asked why so fast in a comment below this one. I am a die hard Rush fan, but you get no flack from me. Artistic expression is what it's all about! Neil Peart would totally get off on this. You are an animal on the kit bro! And I'm your newest fan. Thank you.
Don't kid yourself....you could ABSOLUTELY do this, and more! I can even show you how. :)
WOW!!! Rippin Bro. Like its in fast foreward 👍👍👍 NICE!!!
you won the internet with this cover
As a novice drummer and fan of Neil Peart since 1980, I have to say that is the most amazing drum cover I have ever watched. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the kind words, Stan! Thanks for watching!
Excellent my friend...
Well, that was certainly phenomenal! Thanks for the excellent show!
I also quite playing drums awhile back and I too am looking for another set of drums Thank You for releasing that drummer in side me .
If he's not a pro band player he should be he's the most amazing drummer I have ever seen.
Thanks for watching, Steve! ;)
Saw Rush live a few nights ago, amazing concert loved 'em, now I have to say, your set and skills Neil a run for his money.
*gives Neil a run for his money
I've never been more blown away
Your set is a time machine too.
If there wasn't a clock on the floor, I never would've believed that was in real-time. Awesome performance brotha.
unbelievable! Really unbelievable!
Christ Kevan! Great job! Love the added beats! Your now on my fav. drummers list!
deadpool90210 haha, I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for watching and for the support!
Not sure what I just watched but I think it was a miracle.
Mind Effin blown dude. I've watched this at least ten times and am amazed every time
Thanks very much, Joshua!
tom grow'ed up--love it
