Not allowing inspectors to go on the roof is insane. I spoke to a pest control company guy a few months ago and he said that his guys don't go in the attic. What's the point, right? I get why they don't want to, especially in litigation prone CA, but if that's the case, they shouldn't take the job. Pest companies should get disclosure forms, etc., that will hold inspectors harmless as they do the things they have to do, and with reasonable care. I suspect you guys have such things, or at least video verbal disclosures, etc., when you speak to homeowners. Cheers.
the bulk of those companies are "rat reduction" companies. customers are cash ATM's for them. I'd never hire one. it's like Tru Green for lawns.. recurrent fees for nuffin.
I was changing a water heater with my friend in an attic and grabbed a 2x4 walking through that shocked the hell out of me. Someone had cable tied a power wire and the cable tacker had gone into the wire. There is a lot of risk going up there
I wonder if she can go after the people installed her shower for some of these costs. This was entirely preventable had they not been so negligent.
It really pisses us off that we have to come across workmanship like this. Homeowners trust and pay contractors and this stuff is being done. Truly sad!
She must sue both companies for their stupidity its actually insane I feel bad for her.
That vent line is wild!! 11 years doing plumbing and I have never seen such butchery. They literally just notched the line in half.

Exactly. Even if months have passed, with that evidence the company should pay ALL her expenses. No one would expect that vent pipe cut. And not only rats, but sewer gasses are going into the home. I'll bet a lawyer would be excited to take that job. Especially with CA's plethora of lawyers.

Sally looked like she was about to cry at the end she was so relieved. I can see why these guys love their job, despite the mess. First there's the fun mystery to solve of where they get in. Then there's the satisfaction of solving it when others couldn't and at the end the customer is so happy and relieved they get weepy. I had roof rats once, I know how she feels. Rats can make life a living nightmare. Stressed out in your own home. Nice lady I'm glad she's no longer under rat stress.

"We're not allowed to go into the roof", the laziness of some inspectors is crazy and the woman fell for it.
It's actually true, especially if Italy a small business pest control. The insurance to go on roofs is too expensive, even where I work I can't go higher than 20 ft on a ladder.

I need you in Ponte Vedra, Florida at my 102 year old mother's house in Sawgrass Country Club. . Spent thousands of dollars and Naders found another dead rat In their trap this week. No one I know does a smoke test or camera looking down stacks. They wanted us to replace all the insulation at a tune of $10K.
Customers think rats will go away on their own. I wonder if terminix offered the customer an exclusion or they did, and the customer denied it because "it cost too much". If the customer denied the exclusion, then it's the customers fault that they allowed the rats to further their destruction of the home. Setting and checking traps will never solve the problem. Rats are excellent climbers. Yes, they can climb up your stucco on the outside of your home

We had a company come out he put 1star traps and vait boxes he covered the outside holes o rats too snart to get trapped.
The cubourd where they came from they ignored the droppings i found a gsp in the wall covered it and the same evening i heard chewing and scratching really loud.
That other company just wants money out of her since she’s elderly. So crazy they’re taking advantage of her she needs to get rid of them and never pay again.
How come you can smell rat urine through the pipes if there’s a breach? Can you please explain how that works?
Whoever did that remodel to her shower and stupidly cut that pipe and left it should be liable and pay for all damages and fixes. I hope she kept that pipe as evidence. 🐀

2 inch vent pipe is not up you're venting the whole entire house through 2 must be 4 you should have just moved the the niche as you say and put 4 in back in

Any advice when your apartment complex only wants to continue letting the pest control set traps and doesn’t do anything to seal holes or entry points?
I had this problem; They’ve been to the building twice in 6 months but I don’t know what they really did … I found the entry points of my unit myself then (Entry door: put a draft blocker and look for chew marks every day, and next to my dishwasher: put a glue trap) I haven’t had problems since. And Ofcourse clean the crumbs, wash dishes and take out the trash every day.

Question. Should the sewer pipe not smell like sewer or something? What smell are you looking for ? How do you know it was sewer rats?
A well traveled/used rat path has a very nasty smell, what with body grease and feces. Different than human sewage smell.
I had a rat problem. Watching the twins go on the roof and smell the vent pipes I had the same question as you! Wouldn't I I just smell sewage?
I went onto my own roof and smelled my three vent pipes. Two had faint odors of sewage. Nothing overwhelming. The third pipe had this oily, urine, caustic smell! The rats!
So I excluded the pipes from the roof.
And then also looked for other entry points. Found them!
Excluded those too!
Rats ate through the metal exclusions!!!! Whaaaaat!
So then I shoved folded up and crushed metal like the twins do. Added Tabasco to the exclusion foam. And now, finally, free of rats!
All thanks to these videos!
