I used to struggle a lot whenever I wanted to use Redshift because I thought it was very slow. These tips you provided made a huge difference, my friend. Thank you!
Thanks for making this video, should help a lot of people out! I gave up with trying to work around the memory leak bug and got a second GPU as it was too frustrating. Redshift actually announced a week or so ago the next build will include a "workaround fix" as Nvidia are struggling to fix it their end, so fingers crossed no more issues!
Thanks for these tips. It’s a damn shame that Maxon can’t help it’s users with info like this. Also… I have found that adobe products like: after effects and photoshop STEAL ram from redshift like crazy! A Redshift render that might take :30 per frame will absolutely triple in render time if adobe products are running in the background. Close them!
I’m a Mac M1 Max user. So I don’t get to go under the hood with card types ets etc. your advice still improved responsiveness, so Thankyou. I also find that duplicating a texture and deleting the original seems to clear up redrawing previews. But still plagued with totally random complete C4D freezes and crashes. Never seems to happen on their demo videos…
This was really helpful, thanks. One year on from this video and it still looks like Redshift hasn't fixed this issue, but it could just be me as I'm only using an RTX3070.
I sent an email to ask Maxon about this, and they said it's about the driver of Nvdia; they aren't be able to fix it. And you may need a headless GPU for Redshift to fix this. But a week ago, they just fixed it a bit...what is that "a bit" mean is just they are sort of fixed it, but it still can't be able to 100% or say, use as much the vram as it should. So, if you update the redshift and Nvidia driver, it should be respond faster. But I didn't test it out, cos I jumped back to Octane in the past 2 years. But yes. that's excellent news for Redshift users.
Okay I had all these issues. I’ve got two 4090s in a box. Used to be crazy fast. I rolled back to very first version that the 4090 supports (522.25 game ready ) and I went to rs 3.5.22. I could maybe try a more up to date rs but this is working. I’m not touching it ! It’s Not a newer version of c4d issue. Definitely a rs/ driver issue. Hope that helps. I had a scene what was 10-15 minutes a frame to the same one now being 30 seconds a frame with volumes, DoF and a crypto pass !
Great tip, thanks! Wish Nvidia /Maxon/Adobe could all work together to fix these issues. I've had to roll back my Nvidia driver 6months just to get After Effects to work properly, and then you have the issues with redshift...
This was a huge, huge, huge help Dereck! I use to have to wait to rename RS lights on top of all of the other things! I'm running on Mac with 3 6800cards AMD but couldn't understand all of the delayed lag responses. It's flying now! I have the exact same type of issue with the F-Curve editor and changed a similar setting in the preferences hoping it would fix all the lag issues but unfortunately it doesn't appear to. I need to submit a fix it ticket to Maxon for this issue
Thank you for your tips. Definitely will try out. Apparently the most stable Nvidia driver is 497.29 but it's definitely not the solution since most of the software nowadays need latest driver to work.
Solid video. Pretty insane how slow RS has gotten due to this bug. Even by the end of your vid that responsiveness is WAY worse than Octane. Did RS used to be as responsive as Octane at any point, do you know? Hope this new workaround they figured out solves the issue.
Im a long time Octane user and had to learn redshift last month at my new position in a studio. I was always complaining about Octane before and thought Redshift worked smoother according to what everybody said online. So far im having a terrible experience with Redshift. Live viewer is laggy as hell compared to Octane, i have to work without any material previews and the node system itself is totally not optimized and confusing. But yes, I never had a single crash, compared to multiple crash a day with Octane. Still, I have much more fun creating with Octane.
This is due to an Nvidia bug.. that they seem unable to fix.. hopefully newer drivers from Nvidia will eventually “Really” fix this. IT also DOES effect other render engines and some cuda apps. So not only a redshift issue sadly.
@@proceduralcoffeeexactly! Octane works butter smooth in C4d (when not crashing) and Redshift runs smooth in Houdini. Maxon just sucks and wont admit it, of course.
I'm on a 3090, is this just for cards with less VRAM? I didn't notice any difference when I dropped the % down and I tested it on a more complicated scene.
Yep. I got my 3090 installed and I was able to keep it at 90% with material previews on. The 3090 has 24gbs of Vram so it's not experiencing the slow down from maxing out.
i sometimes have a long wait after i hit render on a bucket render, and then when the renders finished and i can see the file, c4d is barely responsive for about 30 seconds after the render has finished. im using the latest version of c4d and redshift, on a pc with 64gb ram, 1080ti.. any thoughts anyone?
Blender user must laughing to this as we are paying for something that doesn't work. The other thing we discuss a lot on discord servers that nvidia drivers has issue. I specificaly asked nvidia higher tech support, they said they know about this issue.

Yeah it really has impacted lots of peoples workload so I hope it is fixed soon. Kinda sucks
I've watched this video. tomorrow I'm gonna test it on my problem and I hope it works. thanks again. keep up the good work, people like me need it
Thank you my dear
No prob, hope it helps!

Thank you! I was researching exactly this yesterday but couldn't get a straight answer. Appreciate you putting this together.
Thank you I hope it helps!

Thanks Derek! I was starting to think there was something wrong with my machine, or maybe I was losing my mind🤣
Thank you for making this video, I also have a 4080, and these tips are very helpful, now I can finally kick out a still render!!

No problem tricky!

Another cool video. Thanks for your help. It would be great also a video on the best RS settings.
I have one over on cgshortcuts' page ua-cam.com/video/G43QVR1TqXg/v-deo.html

Yeah that'd be nice
useful tips.
The man the myth the legend himself. Thanks for educating me on subject!
Amazing!! Thanks
Thank you Ramez

Very helpful, thanks!
Thank you for these gems!!! 🙏

Nice 1 mate

Thanks for making this video - I thought my machine had taken a vacation from rendering lol
Please, we need more 🙏Tutorial!
Of course!

I have a problem is redshift 3.5 dont working with me c4d r25 .is not device found i have 3070ti
for some reason. the latest version of Redshift doesnt recognize my 960m but the version just before that does
Hmm have you reached south to Maxon support about that?

3090 here and i still have to watch it, cuz redshift is slow af
Really? When I upgraded to my 3090 I have 0 slowdown now
That has already been fixed, hasn't it?
I noticed that working offline is working better then working when wifi is turned on. and the preview is then faster too and less crashes.
Interesting, is that the only difference or do you have less apps running too because of that?
tyyyyy
u r saved my mental heath
