Its no use screaming out about worker shortages then putting a bunch of hurdles in the way for migrants, it looks like common sense wins the day but it really makes you question why it has to take so long. Most of my working career in the UK has been driving trucks, but i threw it in about two years ago, too much pressure, too much traffic, hold ups, long days etc for not much money, the South Island will be tempting for many drivers, empty roads and interesting scenery, if i went back to driving i would certainly consider it again. Nowadays I'm a campsite warden, people are actually happy to see me and i get to move around the UK network each year so the job will never get old, less money but a LOT less pressure.
That sounds like a fabulous job and perfect for seeing all of the UK too. 😊 Thank you for being with us, hope that you are loving the summer my friend!
@@ItsaDrama I'm in the Lake District this year, it's pissing down!

Very informative… great job 👏
Thank you! We appreciate your support 😊
It sucks how they don’t want to promote and encourage a lot more investment in producing homegrown skilled workers either. It all just seems a little backwards here. In an ideal world how it should be is to have the workforce dominated by skilled homegrown workers with minimal need for overseas skills. In turn it would reduce the need for excessive housing, reduce unnecessary overpopulation, reduce pressure on overall infrastructure, reduce biodiversity losses, reduce immigration and reduce negative impacts on the environment.
Umm, they do promote home-grown SKILLED workers but it hasn't worked because: 1. It takes time and money to train (years and minimum tens of thousands $$) 2. Young people want higher pay than hospitality or tradie work, even health jobs - so they train and go overseas. We can't magically offer more money than say Oz. 3. There is GLOBAL demand for skilled workers. NZ cant compete. ....so, it's easier to try and import skilled workers that are alrteady trained - and willing to work here for lifestyle too, not just pay.
Ahh the joys of the flawed capitalist system. Yes they have indeed but it’d be better if there was a whole lot more promotion and investment into it than there already is and yes I know it would cost a lot more, there has to be a better way(s) surely than currently. I do however think some of the positives I mentioned above outweigh the negatives imo and I’d be happy to take the trade offs that come with it myself.
Kiwis get low cost high education but immigrants have to spend expensive bach or master degree still there are way less kiwis than immigrants..reasons...u have to look with in
Oh wow this is a big change! I work as a data scientist in the UK so hopefully it will be less convoluted for me than the current system.
Glad that it was helpful! Good luck and don't forget to reach out of you need further help or advice 😀
What of Tuck driver from Nigeria 🇳🇬, do they also need them?
I am tier 1. Too bad NZ employers offer minimal relocation. They should make a deal with airlines and housing and cover $15000 or so of relocation. They dont offer signon bonus either. I can get a sign on at most hospitals in the US from $5K to $20K.
You may need to look at other employers. Mine covered more than your suggestion for relocation fyi. There are good ones out there.
The government needs to be more detailed than, for example, saying a bachelor degree gets x points. Me thinks a bachelor degree in sociology is rather useless compared to one in geology. It surprised me that NZ is considered "super hard" for migrants. There might be UK lorry drivers who might prefer diving quieter South Island roads. But of course the pay is much better in Australia.
Great information! Do you know if there has been any change to the entrepreneur's visa requirements?
