I'm in my 50s, snowboarding 🏂is still fun. Wish I've learned switch earlier. Thanks for putting out vid like this. 👍
Yeah same here
same.

almost there!
This guy is doing way too good for a first timer! I will volunteer myself and this will be a whole different video LOL
I’ve been snowboarding for 15 years now and I remember the first time learning switch. It’s scary but super exciting. I was gunning so hard for this guy and he was nailing it! This stuff warms my heart, awesome stuff.
I'd love to watch something aimed at us older riders (40's) trying to learn freestyle. I'm always the oldest one in the park and I see no reason to leave all the fun to the kids!
38 here completely agree with you :) I'd like to see that kind of video too
The technicals don't change when you're older, it just hurts more when you fall. Same techniques!
Dan you’d be surprised how easy it is to follow Nev lead to start working through your own progression. Start small and work your way up...
@@jodyproudfit918 Been following him for several years - I agree lots of good stuff!
I started last year at age of 37 and fell numerous time but I’m not stopping myself from snowboarding 🏂
Way-to-go, Brent! & thanks for the awesome pointers
Nev, your "spinning" teaching had me up and riding switch in no time. It is one of the best ways I have seen to learn. It also helps with balance. Great videos, hope to one day see you on the slopes!
I love how Nev gives multiple high fives every time they’re standing for a bit
Ride until you're 50 or 60? I'm almost 51 and plan to ride into my 80s. Great videos as always.
Hell yeah you are in your prime bro, happy shredding for years and years to come
1:44 Totally agree. the reason why i have forced myself to learn switch is that my body gets frozen if i am on goofy for the whole day. on less steep areas, going into regular just eases the tension so much, and readies the body for the next challenging slope
You are one of the best tutor that i’ve ever seen.thanks for essential and useful tips
As a beginner with a bad start with injury , Nev and Tommie Bennett's videos helped me get back on a board, slowly getting through fear and trying a new snowboard vacation after training basics in an indoor snowpark
This is all I’m doing the first month of this season after that I’ll be trying all kind of tricks, thank you for the video
I say that every year but it all changes once you're on the mountain. It takes a lot of mental strength and discipline to keep working on it especially if you're trying to keep up with your buddies! But it's so worth it once you feel comfortable riding in both directions! Good luck bro
Yeah I’m also going to try that it’s going to be hard tho, I don’t want too. I really want to be able to 180 and move on to harder tricks
@@mrcarrot5008 throw your bindings on backwards (or rotated backwards slightly if you normally ride duckfoot). It'll force you to commit to practicing and you'll push yourself harder because you won't want to go slow on easy stuff all day.

Im doing the same I wish I knew what mountain he rides on to go and see if I can be lucky to try and run into to him I'm still on depolyment so no snow alot of sand
11:02 thanks to that kid
Watched the video and put it to the test at Ski Liberty on the east coast. The conditions were super slushy and nasty, but I found a lot of success following your process. I started by traversing the run switch and getting a feel for carving on heel/toe side. This exercise was easy, didn't cause a lot of anxiety, and help build my confidence. I began integrating the 360 spins and also found it easy and not very stressful. After putting it all together, I was able to ride switch down most of the run with several falls. In my experience, I found that the transition from heel to toe was the most difficult part, and often where I fell. I tried to focus on putting weight on my front foot and pressing with my back foot's heel or toe. Unfortunately, I would fall thinking about it this way. What helped me most was focusing on driving the transition with my front heel/toe pressure, and my back foot seemed to follow. I'm going to continue to practice, but I wondered if you could share some insight to make the transition smoother. Thanks, I love your channel, and your teaching ability is excellent.
Snowboarding til you 60s?? Already there. Made my first park run yesterday. Hoping for 80s.
This guy is the best teacher
Glad to see you teach the same skills to get into switch as i have when riding with some beginner level riders and tryin switch to match their speed. And as you said, i was impressed how quickly i was able to ride down switch even the steepest runs. Keep up the good work!
More Nev's ride on the videos please. His tehnique is beautiful for watching. I understand that you want to show us the improvements of regular guys but we can see them all around us. Moves like Nev's are hard to be seen on a mountain. Thank you guys!
Wow. That’s a good ☝️! I will try this weekend! Thx
Thank you. More switch progression!
This was soooo good! Your friend is great at switch. I'm very impressed he didn't fall over once
Thk for tips on ridding switch Nev!
This is the goal for the beginning of the season, super helpful video, thanks 👍🏻
Thanks for existing! It would have been so much easier for me if you were already around back in 11 years when I first went on a snowboard trip (which was the first time actually seeing snow for real, and I was naive enough to believe that being a surfer and a skater, it would be easy to learn it on my own...)!!
Before I knew much of anything I learned switch riding to balance a lifetime of doing all sports in the same direction. It was for pain relief. Now 59 and stoked. My game is good switch riding and 180’s. Ok on ride on rails. Still trying to learn jump on rails. Fear factor. Great teacher!
Aaahhh, just what I needed right now, thanks for the vid, bang on as always!
Surprised you didn't mention binding angles. Good video tho! I'm going to practice this weekend
👍 great lesson, such an important skill to develop. It’s taken me literally years of praccy trying to replicate what I’m doing in my regular stance re: steering, body posture. Really struggled with switch toe-edge turns - always looking up hill to make sure I brought my shoulders round helped. I’d guess I’m about 60-70% confident with switch now & it just opens up so many other doors for your riding. Thanks for this vid
Awesome video guys! Thank you so much! I like the fan rider yall have been having in your videos. Gives a real vibe to it! I Hope to see you guys at Breckenridge this season
Okay so im pretty experienced with riding switch and one thing I have noticed a lot of people have trouble with when they start riding switch is they don't keep they're shoulders open and not square with thier board as they're headed downhill. This ties in a lot with what he was saying at the end about not leaning far enough forward. Its difficult to get comfortable with but I promise that as soon as you just commit to it fully and get your shoulders square as well as your lean figured out your switch riding will improve dramatically.
Great live instruction video. Keep up the great work educating, inspiring and encouraging. Cheers.
I just want to say I love your guys channel and thanks for making the channel, I can’t wait for my local slopes to open
Such a great video! I hope our resorts open this year (still questionable) so I can get my switch riding down!
One thing I found that helps us get a couple of friends that are just starting to learn snowboarding, and join them, riding switch. At first you’ll be just as bad as a total beginner but you will progress very quickly out of it!
Not trying to laugh at you but it was so funny seeing the toe edge transitions! I remember doing the same when I was learning. Good to see the progress!
If you're serious about riding switch my favourite way to practice was setting a directional board up goofy (I'm a regular) and shredding an entire day that way. Even better if it's a swallowtail!
Nev, this is the switch riding tutorial I needed. Thanks!
Thanks for all the videos bro! Your really helping
“Do you want to keep riding in your 50’s and. 60’s?…Nev…..lol ya! I’m 64….two new knees and a new hip. I want to continue to ride in my 70’s and. 80’s. 👍🏽👊🏽
I don't get to snowboard much at all. I used to ride a rip stick a lot to help compensate. I started riding that switch and really noticed it carries over. Give it a try.
Mate suggested just turning your binding directional in switch - makes you more comfortable riding that way. And just try doing it for a day. If the weather is foul, vis low, it's a good day to spend it practicing stuff that is challenging but doesn't need to go that fast.
Great video and break down, thanks Nev!
Ah, that reminds me of the first time I ever went snowboarding. At the rental they set me up regular because supposedly that was the "correct" setup based on the usual "surprise push from behind" test and it turns out I ride goofy. Only problem: the instructor never noticed it (in a WEEK of lessons) and so I was basically learning switch first. It SUCKED. Years later I get the chance to go back on the slopes, have the rental set me up duck so I could try out both goofy and regular and the difference in feel was night and day
Great teaching, I like it 🤙🏻
These video is sooo sooo good
Very informative! I must say in all your videos the mic quality is outstanding! No scratchy wind sounds. Mind sharing what mic setup that is?
Perfect! I can’t wait to try it!
Great video i was looking for this. even tho i know all it is is will power to actually do it, it helps to watch things.
It helped last season that my gf is goofy (I'm reg). I spent many days teaching her by example, which meant I was tuning my switch the whole time. It's great.
Lawl the ending
Biggest part of learning switch is the mental portion, you just have to swallow your pride and know you will fall over and over.
And lmao 11:03
riding switch gives you more options when you get into trouble. the advantage of riding switch like being able to write with your left hand for some one who is comfortable writing with their right hand
Thanks for thé tuto man
I keep switching edges too early on flatground 360's when im on my switch toe side edge, catching my heel edge and slamming badly. Off putting but im determined to develop my switch riding at the same time as my reg. Started riding properly this season. Vids are super helpful 🙂
Hey this is the run I practiced riding switch on last year!
This is excellent!
Whaaa... I really really want to learn snowboarding
wow dude awesome video thanks for all the tips you give in all your videos, days ago I went snowboarding for the first time and applied many things that I saw in your videos and I felt safe and I could enjoy a lot to be my first time and have no experience In this sport, I would like to know if this mountain is here in Colorado and if you could tell me the name, I would appreciate it very much 🤘🏻
Hey Nev, do you guys ever throw promos for your tramp board, bindings and jib packages?
switch is one of those things that are basically just a grind. it's not technically hard because it is just normal riding. it's a game of mental strength until you nail it. for me I forced myself to ride switch for an entire day on green/blue hills even though I could ride regular and could have had so much more fun. you just need to push through until your body adapts. Also Nev was very right about not leaning enough on the new front foot. A lot of bad switch riding comes from being switch without committing to it with your whole body.
I ride switch more than half the time, just gotta do it, put in the time. Dont be afraid to look like a noob again. To me switch riding is more fun. Your mind is much more alert.
Nice video guys! Perhaps you can givr some tips for L1 snowboard teachers as well when teaching? Would love to hear your insights on this.
Oh, and digging the T-rice 2017. Great board
Can i suggest.... while stopped, facing up hill. (so you can see if someone's going to crash into you) i had to learn this the hard way .
***if you have a camera crew... prob not that big of a issue then.
Is whistler up and running already? Awesome video.
Thanks for this! Yoga shows me the lack of symmetry in my body, so going to try this out on the hill this season. Question - fdoes it help to change to more duck-y in your angles? I ride +15 front & +6 on the back foot. I don't want to over torque my knees if that has any inpact on angle decisions.
That's a super large difference, you should move your back foot to at least 9 if you want to do that, but we would suggest taking your front foot to 12,
Having the front foot +15 might feel good, but it will make you ride with your hips more open, which isn't ideal.
You won't have those hips to be close until you open them for a turn or trick.
So -9 +12 is the most standard and true stance:)
But you do you!
@@SnowboardAddiction I'm going to try anything that helps me ride switch, so far my attempts have been a crash-a-thon. And is a wider stance better? Thank you.
What if you don’t have a twin board, will it make riding switch more difficult/more dangerous?
Most people forget one important thing: riding swith makes your string side better too. It is just a neurological thing.
Best time to practice switch is when conditions are average e.g no powder. Poor visibility day. Means you don't miss out on the good stuff and can improve with no rush
some ace tips here!
What do you mean "50 or 60"? I'm going for a few decades beyond that. My gear's barely broken in.....
If I plan on riding a lot of switch, is it a good idea to set up my bindings in a symmetrical nose-to-tail stance? Or is the difference negligible? My stance is usually a bit towards the rear of the board.
what about the binding angles, should they also be the same on both feet ?
Nice vid
чувак, крутые видео, а где вы катаетесь? где это место находится?
Anytime I’m doing 360 turns like that to get used to riding switch, I generally catch an edge. I ride half camber half rocker. I’m not sure if that has something to do with it? My bindings are set up traditional duck with raised backs. My body just tenses up when I ride switch 😅
just want to get up there now...
How should you setup your bindings when riding switch? Or do you leave it the same? I'm a regular rider with my front foot little bit forward and backfoot 0 degree. I have a directional snowboard (K2 turbodream)
Greetings for Holland!
Best is to set it equal in both directions for riding switch. I believe I’m set at 9* out on both sides. Some people say 12-15, but that felt to drastic for me. In the end it’s all rider preference. Try it and adjust it until it feels right to you.
tail butter 180 at the end?...danger will Robinson!...try it with full health bar recharged, almost a switch scorpion
Big like
What about the bindings angles? Do you recommend use the same angle for both legs so when riding switch it wont feel weird?
@@SnowboardAddiction Can you suggest some angles for starting out. Love the channel by the way :)
Love the channel and your instruction but 99% is way too advanced for me. Nice to easy a video aimed at learning more of the basics that many of us skipped when learning how to slide
Hi! Very useful video Bro!🏂 I can riding switch little, but very unconfortable, and if i have "danger situation" in that moment switch back. I think, it will never be comfortable for me... 😔 I know, every snowday should pratice switch riding, but i feel wasted time, my short seasons... 😬

I have a question for anyone that has some input. I’m trying switch for the first time this season. I got a new board, some bindings, and boots, and I had the shop set up my bindings for me that felt most comfortable for me. Now the thing is the nose of my board is a bit longer than the tail. I ride about -5 on my left, 15 on my right (I’m riding goofy). Should I even out my bindings so that both the nose and tail of my board are the same length? Would that help my switch riding at all? Or should I just continue to learn with the shorter tail end?
LOL that person at 11:02 and 11:43. Somewhat considerate since they at least tried to duck. Good editing not to leave them out.
I’ve been watching your videos a lot and just got an ad for addiction rehab….. hmmmmmmmm
What boards and lenghts are you riding?
Burton costom 158.
Do you know what is the best foot angle to have with the fixations to avoid bad impacts on our body on the long term ?
It’s individual for each person based on bone structure and really what feels comfortable. The most common is 15, -15, but you can also try 12,-12 and 9,-9. What works for you is what works for you!
@@cameronheyward2362 ok thank you
What you do is while standing, do a yoga squat where you put your hands together like a prayer, then bend your knees until your elbows touch your knees. The space that your feet are apart is your distance that your bindings should be apart from center of foot to center of foot. Now take notice of the angle of your feet in a duck stance and that is what you should set your binding angles at:)
@@mpix00 awesome, thx for the advices
What stance do you need to ride switch? I feel whenever I'm on my switch leading foot I get scared my stance angles are uneven and might catch an edge!
You don't need any stance, its just getting used to it. However you can setup both your feet at the same angles to make it feel similar, but this will take away from your normal.
@2022-Jenison Brown I think what Jason is asking is what is the best binding set up to ride switch.
Some people have bindings set up like \ | or \ \ or for switch \ / this set up is best because then your feet are positioned the same riding goofy or regular.
Here's my view on this. Many moons ago when I first snowboarded, we had no instructions and no help apart from a guy in a shop where we bought our kit. His advice was good for the time but the snowboarding world has evolved substantially. Originally I was riding goofy with say +3 degrees (binding +3 to the right) on my left foot and and say +9 on my right foot. Effectively always leading with my right leg down the mountain. Absolute nightmare for riding switch. So my advice for what it's worth is to neutralise your angles (run say 0 on both feet or -3 left and +3 right) and let your body do the work not the angles. That way your body has an even playing field for making turns and doesn't preference the easy route.
50 or 60 haha. How about 80 or 90 ;-)

@@rideordietheyretring2tranx382 That's awesome!! I met a guy who started in his 80's. Said he'd done everything else so why not!! Enjoy!!

no0w@@@y???? my goal this season will be working on my switch and S.@ddition, just read my mind! Thx Q!!
They don't explain where you should lean, weight of your body on feet or body. They just expect you to know how to ride already.
Thats the thing bro... you do know how to ride normal already. Your just learning to apply those same techniques in reverse now.
The blueprints are there, now its just time to rebuild the structure.
How to draw an owl:
1. start by drawing some circles
2. draw rest of the fucking owl
How to ride switch:
1. start by doing some 360s on the ground
2. ride the rest of the fucking season in switch
Just joking, amazing video.
Practice is key!
Where is this?

Man I wish I was up there, large runs like that seem so much fun. Down in the states most of our mountains have shorter steeper runs than gradual plains. Makes it hard to work on board tricks but makes it fairly easy to learn switch out of sheer necessity 🤣
