    Ingredients:-
    4 cups all purpose flour (500 grams)
    1 cup sugar (200 grams)
    1 cup shortening (200 grams)
    2 large eggs
    3 tsp baking powder
    2 tsp vanilla extra
    1 cup sesame seeds
    1/4 to 1/3 cup milk
    Pinch of salt
    Directions:-
    Step#1- In a stand up mixer bowl add all the dry ingredients.
    Step#2- With the hook attachment start mixing, add shortening a chunk at a time and using a spatula move flour from side of the bowl to the center to mix properly.
    Step#3- Add the eggs and vanilla.
    Step#4- Add milk a little at a time and check for dough consistency. It needs to be a soft dough.
    Step#5- Move to work surface and sprinkle some flour to avoid sticking. Knead for a few minutes then cover in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
    Step#6- As the dough is resting toast the sesame seeds in a 350 degrees Fahrenheit oven (180 Celsius) to a golden color. Let them cool completely.
    Step#7- Remove dough from refrigerator and cut in multiple pieces. Do not add flour to work surface otherwise sesame seeds will not stick.
    Step#8- Roll dough creating 1 inch wide logs. Cut about 1 1/2 inches long pieces and roll in sesame seeds.
    Step#9- Space on a parchment lined cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius) for 30 minutes or until golden.
    Step#10- They store well in an airtight container up to two weeks.
    Enjoy anytime!

    We called these cookies giugiulenas (I think giugiulena is the Sicilian word for sesame). Our Sicilian cookies were quite crisp, almost llike the traditional anise biscotti for dunking in espresso or coffee. Your sesame cookies seem less crunchy and hard. I'm going to try your recipe because my problem with the giugiulenas is their almost tooth-cracking hardness. I just love watching your videos.

    • @alessandrasfoodislove
      @alessandrasfoodislove  3 роки тому

      Yes, giuggiulena means exactly that. The original recipe had lard in it and that made it extra hard. The shortening give it more of a crunch. Hope the recipe is to your liking. Thank you so much for watching. 💖

    Buon Giorno, Allesandra,
    I just made these a couple days ago and they are DELICIOUS! After they cooled, I decided to freeze them. Now, I didn't think I had been too hard on them moving them into the freezer, but when I went to open them up yesterday, I saw a lot of the sesame seeds had fallen off except for the bottoms. What to do?
    I still have perfectably usable toasted sesame seeds at the bottom of the bag. Think I can save these by brushing on a thin coat of orange-flavored sugar syrup and rolling them back in the seeds? darn.

      Hi Ernie,
      Was the dough splitting raw or when it cooked? If raw just work it a little longer. If when cooked it’s tropical because of the baking powder. I’d it like a split on a bread? Hope they taste delicious. Thank you for watching.

    Interessante. Non li conoscevo questi biscotti e i semi di sesamo danno un bel carattere alla pasticceria secca. Qui in Italia non ho visto niente di simile allo shortening, forse la cosa più vicina è la margarina?

    • @alessandrasfoodislove
      @alessandrasfoodislove  3 роки тому

      Ciao Vincenzo, sono biscotti Siciliani. La ricetta originale è con la sugna. La margarina e burro vanno benissimo, lo shortening è una sugna vegetale. In America devo dire che si fanno tante ricette di diverse regioni. La cosa simpatica che tra di noi oltre l’italiano parliamo il nostro dialetto. 😂😂💚🤍♥️tanti cari saluti

      @@alessandrasfoodislove Grazie per l'informazione. La sugna la trovo anche qui in Toscana e in teoria potrei pure cercare di farmela da solo perché ricordo quando mia madre la faceva ogni anno. In un'altra vita, come tanti delle nostre parti, navigavo e sulle navi italiane ognuno parlava si il proprio dialetto da nord a sud ma tutti ci capivamo benissimo.E ridevamo. Tantissimi saluti anche a te.

    I made the sesame cookies today using the measurements for grams rather than cups and it was the first time they turned out amazing! They dough was supple and the sesame seeds stuck perfectly to the dough. I must have made them too big because I only got about 50. But they are delicious!
