I like to think it was the Tardis, and for once we were seeing the Doctor's adventures through the eyes of us ordinary mortals, unable to grasp what was really going on, or how the Doctor was saving the world somewhere nearby! :-)
problem is that police box was rather too new to be the tardis. But i suppose he also saw a short dark haired man in baggy trousers wearing a frock coat tootling away on his recorder
Seeing as the show lasted longer than the actual 60’s did, it’s possible Aidensfield and the surrounding area is a time anomaly that the Doctor would want to investigate!
I love these cross over references in shows. Often no explanation and i sometimes wonder if they are dropped in different programmes just to see if we are actually paying attention?
Cliff Richard and the Shadows - 'Time Drags By' on - on the Soundtrack. Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch, John Rostill and Brian Bennett got an Ivor Novello for that.
I visited a scrapyard as a kid in the 70s with a friend and his dad, and there were rows of old police boxes, and they were indeed all concrete and metal because they also doubled as temporary police cells. The TARDIS is wood for the show, as is this one.
I was thinking... this episode came out in 2003. Doctor who came back in 2005. By the time this episode came out they must've started thinking about the return, right? Maybe this was meant to be a little hint at the return of Doctor Who?
Except for the fact that Heartbeat was an ITV show, Dr Who was and still is a BBC production. ITV wouldn't be promoting any plans that the BBC might of had at that time.
& 2 actors there who had been in Doctor Who. William Simons had been in The Sun Makers & Geoffrey Hughes had been in The Ultimate Foe. So both undoubtedly amused with the police box disappearing gag. It was like a little in-joke to William & Geoffrey having both been in Doctor Who themselves.
So for an episode of the show it just keeps appearing in different parts of their Village with no explanation how it's getting from place to place and no explanation where it went by the end of the episode and nobody actually sees it fading in and out?
This is interesting as ‘Doctor WHO’ being a BBC show, and trademarked the word, showing up in ITV’s ‘Heartbeat’ must’ve involved a lot of cross conversation and tiptoeing around licensing
Do we know exactly which year the episode was set in? We know Doctor Who began in 1963, so perhaps the Aidensfield population didn't quite know, or understand Doctor Who at the time.
Don't recall seeing this episode, but then again this was the time when I stopped watching Heartbeat has it ventured far too much into comedy territory. Heartbeat from the start had some light humour interspersed with the gritty and sometimes controversial storylines (drug issues and the girl who had an elderly woman assist in her abortion), but the comic relief went too far IMO. David, when he appeared in series 5 (I think) was a believable character who had social issues, but later they made him into the village idiot. Same with Lord Ashfordly, who at first was a stubborn, snobby and arrogant Lord who looked down on eveveryone who wasnt seen that much, but later made him a friendly-ish character and a regular down at the pub which to me didn't feel right. In the early series Ashfordly had a son, but for some reason he never appeared again. The early series seemed to have a quite realistic 1960s vibe about it with the appearance of mods and troubling youths, but it became too stereotypical later on.
David Stockwell turned into the village idiot big time, I watched an episode today which is series 17..itv3) David is in his van and he looks and there's a man running naked in the wooded area. Later on in the programme the man running naked in the woods jumps off a bridge .. And Peggy eats some "space cake.🍰🎂 maybe it just ran out of ideas because it was on for such a cumbersome amount of time.. I still watch the repeats. It used to be gritty with swear words yes correct.✅
One thing would have been true if it was the Tardis. It had a proper Doctor inside. Patrick Troughton. Not a black gay/woman /woke, etc. The sixties still lived in the real world of real men and real women. And Doctor Who was no exception. Unfortunately, those were the days my friend.
Originally broadcast on 9th November 2003. Near the 40th anniversary of Dr Who.

Totally agree with you. Thought that myself.
my favourite part, because the disappearing and reappearing box was never explained, maybe it really was the Doctor :)
Sarka Hiekova I was going to ask that as I never saw this episode
It wasn't a police box it was David's sarnie.📦 box.. He's a growing lad.
problem is that police box was rather too new to be the tardis. But i suppose he also saw a short dark haired man in baggy trousers wearing a frock coat tootling away on his recorder

I consider this canon
There’s no evidence to object to this, so yeah, it’s canon
@@pangysaghavods Except "Doctor Who Canon" is a fan delusion. Doctor Who has no canon.
Agreed
What’s canon mean?
@@recall2880 real big long shooty thing, goes boom sometimes
How very apt "Time drags by", sung by Cliff Richard.
Oh I have been seeking this for every where in YT but no result. Until now finally I found this.
To see the TARDIS in heartbeat is well awesome in billions of ways and one would, expect to see the Doctor come out of the Police Box.
The Doctor is just trolling them lol

Didn't know Mr Popplewick had stolen the TARDIS
I noticed that too!

I saw that one, the implication was it was THE TARDIS.
so heartbeat shares a universe with doctor who?
So legend has it.
Along with East Enders if Dimensions in Time is to be believed
It would explain the Aidensfield time warp, where it was 1969 for about 7 years.
Please... Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey
I swear real police boxes were made of concrete
They were they weighed 3 tons
Yes, mostly concrete with a teak door.
I visited a scrapyard as a kid in the 70s with a friend and his dad, and there were rows of old police boxes, and they were indeed all concrete and metal because they also doubled as temporary police cells. The TARDIS is wood for the show, as is this one.
The BBC website has a video of one being demolished by two blokes with sledgehammers.

Time and relative dimension in Space. It means life.
The doctor really needs to fix the TARDIS' landing.
Nothing is wrong with the landing he leaves the breaks on

Forget the Tardis, I always wondered what happened to Eddie Yates after he left the street, didn't know he moved to Yorkshire 😂
Never seen this before. Whatta treat !!!
Excuse me but wasn't Geoffrey Hughes the disguised Valeyard ???
He was Mr Popplewick disguised as The Valyard. "Trial of a Time Lord".
I was trying to find this episode
Mustve been something sinister happening in the background of this episode 😆
*It's a fixed point in SpaceTime. The TARDIS goes there every time it ReBoots.*
I wonder if this coinsided with Bernies appearance in Doctor Who in terminus
Blame it on the TARDIS. It seems to have a sense of humor.
Patrick Troughton's TARDIS.

Daily reminder this show had a canon alien abduction in series 1.
How can I get a copy of this? This is wonderful!
If i saw a Police Box anywhere there is just no way i could get rid of it id keep it and have it in my backyard.
Let’s not forget, Alf Ventress was abducted by aliens in one episode.👽🛸🚓
Perception filter must've been broken
the tardis even shows up in fallout 1
I wonder which Doctor this is? Based around the exact design of the police box it's not a recent one now.
There was something odd about that police box prop .
I reckon I could make a long and boring comment out of all the things wrong with it, from the colour of the glass to the font of the sign.
Supposedly it's the tardis from Doctor who
Is it bigger on the inside
Davids sarnie box?🎁📦
Is that junkyard the I. Foreman junkyard?
Shoreditch, London and the North Riding of Yorkshire - Over 230 miles apart, so probably not 😆
