I've met Bill a few times as I live in the same area as him. I have to say he's a pure gent who loved to talk about his past and always had time for anyone. Not starstruck , just a kind and chatty bloke - sleep well Bill you gave us some great laughs ! RIP .
thanks for sharing that, Nicholas....I wish I could have met him...there's no character I have ever loved as much as Greengrass..the show just wasn't the same after he left..
love the relationship between blaketon and greengrass. real classic... what do you want greengressss... said with such venom . liked this series. and still watch all the repeats .
So sad to hear that Peter Benson who played Bernie Skropps has sadly passed away on the 6th September following a short illness. My sincerest condolences to his family. Peter seemed like such a kind gentle soul. r.i.p Mr Benson Sadly missed.
Loved this series back in the day, such loveable characters and I include Blaketon in that was whilst he was a "by the book" police officer he grew to love Nick as if he were his own son and he also mellowed out of the years especially when we became the barman in the pub and looked after Gina. Derek Fowlds played him brilliantly and despite appearances to the contrary when he was bellowing to his charges he had a heart which was evident when he felt guilty and saddened by Nick's wife, Kate having cancer and not long to live not long after she had given birth to their daughter.
We are currently re-watching this classy well made show on ITV3 weeknights. It beggars belief that Yorkshire tv now known as ITV1 axed this show back in 2010 to focus more on that terrible Emmerdale, which is really aweful, full of nasty vindictive characters. We have visited Goathland near Whitby where scenes from the show were originally shot. There is Skripps garage, and across the road, the Goathland Arms, re-named Aidensfield Arms when they were filming there. I wish they would bring back this excellent show.
Peter Benson who played Bernie Skripps died last week on the 6th September. And we lost Bill Maynard earlier this year. They will be sadly missed. r.i.p Mr Maynard & Mr Benson.
Yeah, and 5 nights a week, now that's what "They" call "variety" Emmerdale, Coronation Street, need i say anymore? And for Simon Gegson, whf is he doing on that show, sat there all sackless, supposedly running a taxi company, but hardly ever there, and if he is, he's just still sat there in a chair looking gormless. Nice work if you can get it eh?
Sorry for my reply above, I was talking about the rubbish they put on now, which supposedly replaced this once good show "Heartbeat" I think we are all pig sick of the "Dumbed Down" TV shows of today.
@@garydunn3037 I don't watch any of those so called "shows". Crap. Heartbeat was quality. They always seem to cut the good shows and leave the rubbish.
