...Body armour seems cool at first until you have to wear it all day. It's part of my uniform as law enforcement but you will be happy to take it off when your shift is over. It's very hot and always itching you in places you can't reach. It's life saving though!!!

I was told by the seller, they pretty much last forever. I even saw a review on youtube a long time ago someone bought old 80's or 90's body armour, tested well with no issues. Kevlars biggest enemy is UV light from the sun, it breaks anything down if kept in the direct sunlight.

Great vest, level III A+ is good protection yet still light enough to keep you quick. Adjust it so that it's about three fingers above your belly button. Your vitals will be covered and you will still be able to draw your sidearm. More comfortable when seated as well, so you will wear it and not leave it sitting around. God Bless!

@DEMCAD: just so you are aware, the IIIA+ rating means it is designed to stop threats other than those the vest is tested against, and a IIIA is normally expected to stop. That vest should stop high velocity 9mm FMJ from a sub machine gun, hot 10mm, most types of 5.7mm and 7.62x25mm Tokarev.

There are videos online of people shooting 20+ year old body armor and it still stopping all rounds it was rated for. Here is a test I did of a 25 year old Safariland IIIA vs a .500 S&W magnum. The vest stopped it easily:
      ua-cam.com/video/CeEyAJLejzg/v-deo.html
That test was about 10 years ago- I still have the same vest, and It will still stop anything it was originally rated to stop. Whenever i need a backstop, it's what I use.

The ballistic fibers break down over time from heat, moisture and wear. Armor won't become useless at the end of the five-year warranty, but that's the time frame it is guaranteed to meet the testing standards.

I do not recommend level IV or level III steel for civilians. It is far too heavy, and most civilians are in terrible shape. You'll end up a heat casualty. Get yourself level III+ Polyethelene. It is very light and will still stop most rifle threats.

Yeah I got some suprlus police body armor a bunch of years ago, then due to the age of the armor that was stated as level "4" lol, as it is hardened kevlar plus a front and back ceramic plate of some sort, it was the style originally used in Ireland due to all the police shootings there. (I traced it back as RCMP surplus --and they rarely wore the stuff and didn't like it cause it was too bulky and heavy) None the less I also picked up "conceiled" body armor, but its more or less the same type of stuff you have, but it was ordered from China so I just got to go with it is what it is, it is a little smaller than yours but covers the same dynamic and offers front and back protection. I also picked up some trauma pads also, these were from Israel and they are used to absorb and redirect armor impacts so you don't get impacted by them as much, they absorb the incoming force from the body armor and cushion and redirect it so it doesn't get transferred into the body as much. The first set was a little restrictive and not too comfortable to run in as it tended to bounce up and was heavy but I liked using it as a training vest or weighted vest for exercise. The newer Chinese one is much lighter but doesn't have as much coverage and was rated I think 3A where as the other was probably level 3 but stated as level 4 by the seller. As kevlar plus ceramic is normally good for one or two rifle rounds. I wouldn't expect the ceramic to be 100% or last too many shots but it is probably materially intact more or less as it is moisture protected. The good thing is that the ceramic probably will last a long time and I can cut it out and use it as a ceramic plate on a plate and kevlar setup. I don't really trust either of the kevlars anymore fully but my risk factor is fairly low and they were minimally used so they still probably offer some degree of protection. Not all armors are made the same and they are producing better and better materials these days. Both sets of armor were bargain bin. I am pretty economical in my purchases. The police armor was used and being sold off as at the same time new armor ownership bans were being brought in from the place I got it. Thankfully, I don't have armor ownership restrictions where I live. The Chinese set is well Chinese so you know its cheap but its a bit of a leap of faith. I was doing security work at the time I got it in a sector that has stabbings and shootings occasionally. I was doing patdowns and regularly finding knives and even a bullet - so the idea was that if they are carrying them, there is a chance they could be used in that environment. There were also some reports of shootings in the same industry in an urban area about an hour away and it is all the same crime groups in these areas. The trauma pads were not super expensive but felt I would get them just to reduce the level of injury I suffered in event of being shot in the chest or stomach or spine. I usually only wear it when there is an active shooter in the area I am living or going to an area that has a history of shootings happening, re: high crime areas, forests that hunters may hunt in or poach in or when getting death threats.. since I have a handful of death threats against me if things start getting weird or unusual events I put it on, afterall it doesn't protect you if you aren't wearing it so I just put it next to my bed normally so it can be put on if there are any unknown events, gunshots, loudbangs, home invasion etc.. sort of one of those same things as having a phone next to you to call 911 and some means of protecting yourself. I dunno when you have a death threat of a cartel, or people you know may be protected to illicilt activities or certain crime groups or you have had to deal with crazzies, you've broken up fights or interacted then the threat is more real for you... but even beyond that there is just the realization with an increase in violent crim the chances are real. I'm not really in an urban area now so the threat is generally minimal but its really easy.. its not a get out of death free card but it provides a tini bit of protection like wearing a mask or social distancing. Its just like having a tactical gas mask, NBC rated clothing or having a nuclear fallout plan for deconamination by EDCing a rain poncho with you. Its just little things you can do to build buffers of protection. My mindset is if police need it then people probably need it too not to as easily become victims of violent crime and emergency events that they may encounter. Self reliance is the key.. as always police and emergency services are there as first responders but that means you will probably be a first victim.
