    In Iraq, in 03, they liked to use soda cans as improvised grenades. Nuts, and bolts, packed around PE4 or whatever else they had. Chucked them off overpasses, and other points aiming for the gun turrets.
    Most Americans don't know how easy it is to make things like that. Plate carriers are good if you need to go immediately. But in any kind of sustained combat environment I would want a full body armor set up.

    A lot of people assuming there won't be grenades, IEDs or arty in the thing they're prepping for; aka that stuff that causes by far the most casualties. I like the strandhogg in this context, straddles a pretty sweet spot of holding plenty of soft armour plus all the plates you want but isn't any bigger than any 'minimalist' vest by the standard of a few years ago. Good protection without being inside a military issue monster from the 2000s.

      I second this. Strandhogg with the wraparound side armor is my go to rig

      So when you buy the strandhogg does it come with the soft armor included? The cummerbund doesn’t seen to take standard sized inserts

    Great comparisson between the capabilites of different PCs and body armor. What also makes them different is how you can set them up (or actually scale them up or down) depending on what your mission and role is.

    4:45 so true, IOTV's front and back panels are way too long, and they never fit right so the bottom always folds inside in the carrier making it even more bulkier.

    I always thought of the MBAV as a reduction from BALCS instead of a growth from SAPI. Early to mid 2000's were a whacky time in gear development.

    I'm 5'7 170, and wearing 10x12 swimmers. And they cover my whole torso damn near from side to side. So I'm gonna purchase a set of small esapi lvl4s tmrw and get a size small carrier. I can definitely make the 10x12s work, as I have for past year, but I know the smalls are what I rly need in order to be more efficient w rifle while wearing kit.

    The term you are looking for for "full" cut in respect to a CIRAS or RBAV is BALCS. (Body Armor Load Carry System)

    Mbav and RBAV, are cool, I had a SDS RBAV size large and I liked it, but hated the ugly color, wish multicam version existed, I discovered lbt 6094 and bought one.

    Been trying to figure out does standard issue esapis need backers? Got issued level 4 esapi for old ass crias that’s being phased out for a new gen but it came with front and rear level 3 soft armor that covers the plate area but also sides of the vest were the plate doesn’t cover. Wanna know if I can run it in my fcpc and not die

    Most of the dudes wearing medium plates could utilize XL (extra large) and they'd be fine and have more coverage, it weighs 1.5 lbs more. A medium covers cock soup. I like that Crye also has the abdomen panel that can fix a 6x6 plate. I always thought it's stupid how the lower abdomen are always exposed.

    • @EODFish
      @EODFish  Рік тому +6

      A plate exists only to protect your heart, lungs, and spine. Almost no one is appropriately sized wearing an XL.
