In Iraq, in 03, they liked to use soda cans as improvised grenades. Nuts, and bolts, packed around PE4 or whatever else they had. Chucked them off overpasses, and other points aiming for the gun turrets. Most Americans don't know how easy it is to make things like that. Plate carriers are good if you need to go immediately. But in any kind of sustained combat environment I would want a full body armor set up.
A lot of people assuming there won't be grenades, IEDs or arty in the thing they're prepping for; aka that stuff that causes by far the most casualties. I like the strandhogg in this context, straddles a pretty sweet spot of holding plenty of soft armour plus all the plates you want but isn't any bigger than any 'minimalist' vest by the standard of a few years ago. Good protection without being inside a military issue monster from the 2000s.
@@EODFish do you have any plans on making an SOHPC video? The only ones out rn are old and unhelpful aside from one vid made by a guy i played airsoft with
Great comparisson between the capabilites of different PCs and body armor. What also makes them different is how you can set them up (or actually scale them up or down) depending on what your mission and role is.
4:45 so true, IOTV's front and back panels are way too long, and they never fit right so the bottom always folds inside in the carrier making it even more bulkier.
I'm 5'7 170, and wearing 10x12 swimmers. And they cover my whole torso damn near from side to side. So I'm gonna purchase a set of small esapi lvl4s tmrw and get a size small carrier. I can definitely make the 10x12s work, as I have for past year, but I know the smalls are what I rly need in order to be more efficient w rifle while wearing kit.
Mbav and RBAV, are cool, I had a SDS RBAV size large and I liked it, but hated the ugly color, wish multicam version existed, I discovered lbt 6094 and bought one.
Been trying to figure out does standard issue esapis need backers? Got issued level 4 esapi for old ass crias that’s being phased out for a new gen but it came with front and rear level 3 soft armor that covers the plate area but also sides of the vest were the plate doesn’t cover. Wanna know if I can run it in my fcpc and not die
Great video Fish, you explained everything perfectly and having the BALCS armor panels for comparison was great. I still think the Veltye Hugger was a great BALCS based armor carrier and gave you one of the most streamlined packages for that soft armror.
Can anyone tell me who is the Manufacturer/Company that makes the Plate Carrier being shown in this video at the 1:00 min mark or the exact name of this Plate Carrier . PLEASE ADVISE Thank You
Most of the dudes wearing medium plates could utilize XL (extra large) and they'd be fine and have more coverage, it weighs 1.5 lbs more. A medium covers cock soup. I like that Crye also has the abdomen panel that can fix a 6x6 plate. I always thought it's stupid how the lower abdomen are always exposed.

I second this. Strandhogg with the wraparound side armor is my go to rig
So when you buy the strandhogg does it come with the soft armor included? The cummerbund doesn’t seen to take standard sized inserts
No. Its extra
Paraclete SOHPC used to also offer that config.

I always thought of the MBAV as a reduction from BALCS instead of a growth from SAPI. Early to mid 2000's were a whacky time in gear development.
very informative, for a novice choosing this equipment is intimidating - please do more of these
another EOD drop 🔥🤙🏽

The term you are looking for for "full" cut in respect to a CIRAS or RBAV is BALCS. (Body Armor Load Carry System)
Thank you i have been looking for full body armor makers for months, and in one google click i found them
THanks you made my day.

Man one of the best PC out there was the Eagle Industries SPC. The marine corps fucked up 😆
As a guy issued a gen III, I'd do unspeakable things for one of those SPCs
As an EOD tech, what was your preferred armor setup for your job?
FS sleeper
why is it so hard to find good BALCS cut?..
This guy wants to sell me ocp camo vest from 2011 that looks kind of like yours . Does that hold L4 plates ?
Did WTF actually put the camo on the right direction ?

@@EODFish figured that would be the answer. Thanks! Been running my personal ones anyways cause no one cares.
what carrier do you recommend for just soft body armor?
Overall, great video!
Plate carriers have their place, but i think they are being overused when full cut is more appropriate
most of plate carrier needs to be used with soft armor and plate. so i think cyre lvs can solve the problem. how do you think it is
The 6094 back platebag is that way because its made for square plates
Bulletproof product supplier , from raw silk to finished product, good quality and low price
whats the civ eq of sapi plates in sizing curve and weight? not trying to source aftermarket sapi plates
I honestly have no clue what the closest commercial equivalent is.
The plates LTC makes for BulletProofMe
Happen to have a model name by chance? I’d love to plug them.

WTF PC24
Do blast belts make any sense?
Absolutely.
LBS is fat and slow. light and fast with 3+ polymer
What?

A plate exists only to protect your heart, lungs, and spine. Almost no one is appropriately sized wearing an XL.
@@EODFish The XL gives 1.5" width and length wise. What do you mean "nobody is appropriately sized?"
@@jackkozlowski5201allow me to explain....XL IS TOO DAMN BIG FOR 98 % OF PEOPLE.
