For those not in the know, the background vocals and "I want my MTV" was performed by Sting.
They (Knoffler and crew, not sting) came up with the idea for the song while in a department store, watching guys moving a bunch of stuff around and saying they should have been rock stars on MTV instead of busting their humps. 😆
P.S. That guitar on the cover with the metal sound plate is called a "Dobro" and was used by many delta blues guitarists.
This album and the guitar work of Mark Knoffler changed the direction of rock in the 80s, permanently.

I have to say. Money for nothing can be a really good instrumental for rap songs.
I was afraid you were just going to react but instead you also drop some sick bars in it! Cool 😎 curious about other classics will listen too.

In as much as I love the guitar intro, it's not until the drums and bass enter the fold and particularly those long simple bass notes that really lock the groove down.

You need to do reaction to the music video for money for nothing for me it’s the greatest music video of all time. Also the first ever music video played on mtv Europe back in 1985 and was first computerised music video ever. Definitely one of most iconic guitar riffs of all time and if not the most iconic guitar riff of the 80s

My favorite thing about the particular word used in the lyrics, is used to described themselves; the people singing are the band's critics, and it's like they are quoting their critics into song form. They are the band that the lyrics criticize, so the particular word people get hung up on, is directed toward themselves =)
