I think I bought the last one. :) getting ready...freeze dried shipment on the way. pre-orders are gonna be tasty too. I'm loving it.
NICE REVIEW…THINK I WILL ORDER ONE FOR A FM SIMPLEX REPEATER FOR THE AREA THAT I LIVE IN! A VERY WOODED AREA WITH MANY HILLS AND ABOUT 6 GOOD HAMS!👍THANKS!
Very interested in learning HAM radio basics. Great video!
good piece of gear to have if you have the need
Thank you for the information.
Very nice, I used to have the Radio Shack Simplex repeater from decades ago. They work pretty well and using a pair of CTCSS Codes you can filter out hearing the repeater repeat what you transmitted.
How ? Doesn't that also prevent you from hearing others?
I use mine to test new HTs and antennas. Don't have to annoy the wife by having her have to listen. )
Wish it had a separate rcvr input for remote control functions.
After schooling up on all the options for a repeater, I bought a TYT TH-8000E that has cross band repeater mode and a TYT TH-9800 mobile that has it, too. There's no echo and what with the scrambler mode there's added obscurity to conversation. Soooo, how did that Surecom work out for you?😜
Did you ever make the repeater box video?
I have one of the Surecom simplex repeaters. It is trash. It worked for a while and then it started acting up, cutting off prematurely and tx'ing only part of the message. It finally got to a point it was unusable, and I tried all the "fixes" because it was past warranty and return.
I now use an Argent Data Systems ADS-SR1 Simplex Repeater. It costs a lot more than the Surecome, but it works and hasn't failed me yet.
Yeah I didnt know about the Argent system and was looking for one of the old radio shack ones on sale on ebay, never found one so I got this, eventually I will be trying out that one too
@@Iridium242 Cool. :) I appreciate your videos. They've helped me in my preps. :)
You have the volume set wrong. Usually over modulating.
Instead of a handheld, can you use a mobile/base radio? However, the radio uses an RJ-45 microphone? How are you going to connect the radio to the repeater?
so it should work with all uhf freqs including GRMS?
Interesting repeater. since it takes 5-24v DC input, I wonder if i would be fairly simple to set this up in the woods with a solar panel and small battery. Any idea on its power consumption in idle?
still looking for that info, as I am going to be running in on a battery bank I am building in an ammo can, but I suspect its pretty low at idle
Stanby time is 72 hours
And Power supply is 3.7V 900mah for the internal battery
It is very easy. I have a small Renogy battery with a solar panel that will run the kit.
Seems like it would be great for testing radios. How is your working out?
So far its been awesome, planning on making a portable repeater for it soon
Does it work on UHF?
Hello 👋
Nice
Did you ever build it in a box? Looked for the video but was unable.
Not yet, but I do have the parts and its on the list. Got a few vids before that one :)
Seen on Amazon, stated it does GMRS and DMR, could you confirm, thanks!
yup it will work with both, its not tuned to any particular frequency, it just repeats what you put through it be it digital or analog
🤠
👍👍👍👍
Will it automatically transmit station identification every 15 minutes?
Yes it can be set up to do that
Awesome, so offsets and tones are no problem?
@@gliv2 It wont do offsets as its a simplex repeater but it will do tones.
That will work. I simply need it to Id to the receive side of a duplex repeater for transmit of the duplex station identification.
@@Iridium242 it will actually. You just reverse your repeater radio freq. How I run mine.
i thought it was a firearm...oppzzz
Does it work with gmrs?
Yea it does
Hold up… it’s so easy and cheap though to link up a couple Baofengs with a simple cable to make for a true duplex repeater system… why go simplex? Same price really- you just buy 2 cheap Btechs and repeater cross link cable and boom-cross band duplex repeater with much better coverage, no…?
The only real reason I can see is the fact that this system uses ONE antenna where as 2 rigs would need 2 antennas one for receive and one for transmit, if I wanted to use it for emergency use, its easier to toss up one antenna, I think Surecom makes one that uses the method you described so I may test that out later.
If you used this with a GMRS radio hooked to the RadioShack amp what kind of range could you expect in an urban environment without mountains? (With an outdoor roof mounted antenna) I’m just looking for neighborhood coverage on GMRS.
Duplex requires a duplexer and those are kinda big for VHF. And you're supposed to separate the antennas quite a bit. And simplex let's you radio check yourself drive around and find your transmit radius.
@@sbrc8725 that's a can of worms. Depends highly on many factors. Antenna and it's height being the biggest. You can cover a few miles or up to 30-60 miles with a 50w mobile as the repeater and a super high gain base antenna 40-60ft high.
