Got a Jase case last year and I'm grabbing another. I've been in health care since 1998 and it's tough to get a doc to write for antibiotics. This is a life saver.
I heard someone speaking in my dialect "ILOCANO" - One of the dialects in Northern Luzon, Philippines. Time stamp at 8:21. Great receiver !!! Thank you very much for the product demonstration 👍👍👍
We a rolling into the high end of the solar cycle so 10 meters should be great in a year or two. The fact that this radio has upper and lower sidebands is a real plus. Good review George, Thanks and 73's
10M is great now. We'll maybe not now...there's a storm on. But last Saturday I was able to reach the other side of the Pacific with 20w and a wire in the air.
Thanks for your inquiry Iridium242. CB radios were band during the Marcos era because of the severe static frequency that it emits causing the CRT television to suddenly black out. As for the HAM's here in the Philippines, we are still active under the administrative supervision of PARA.
I own this very radio, it is very useful indeed. Picks up signals and resolves LSB/USB/FM/AM and is so compact, with a really good display. Battery life is good ? I have used a copper wire long antenna and the signals it brings in are fantastic.
Sync refers to synchronous detection. Basically an AM carrier is sampled at the peak of the RF waveform. The sample gate is only open for a short time, this cuts down on interference and noise. Sync detection can also sample at the zero crossing of the RF waveform. This will allow only phase changes to produce an output for FM mode. The sample timing must be phase locked to the carrier, or synchronous with it.
There are many other features, up and down searches, scan within bands, display dimmer control, CB select button, battery saver with black screen alternating current time GMT, and frequency, etc, etc. I use a banana BNC plug to use a random long wire outdoor antenna on red post and ground to black post, this really makes for very good noise free or reduced noise levels.
Forgot another feature. At left of frequency display you may see colored dots . Green means good recieve conditions yellow iffy conditions red no good conditions in that band
You are going to be mad. The ATS-25 Max Decoder II is out. I just grabbed it off Banggood. It offers 4 more modes yet plus blue tooth is fully enabled as well.
The issue I'm having pertains to the wifi. I'm on my home internet, password put in, my modem shows up when I hit INFO, but my IP says disconnected. Any ideas? FYI THIS IS MY 3RD UNIT.
I have been looking for a radio that can replace my old S120 Halli crafters radio, this might do but with a little drawback in not having the entire band but I'm going to give it a shot.
I want to get a shortwave and have heard about these Im worried that its only using WIFI to pic up the signals if that's the case I could just use my laptop and I don't want to go that way.
I did notice some on the lower bands when i touched the screen BUT no longer loud there or an issue on most of the bands, seems they have fixed that issue somewhat.
Seems like a very interesting radio receiver, but would it be good for a total beginner? I have suddenly gotten interested into emergency radios, or short wave radios?
@@Iridium242 Order placed using your link, thank you. My next project will be setting up an outdoor antenna. After I play around with it as is, of course.
In the video i am showing it connected to an outside wire antenna BUT when i took it off to finish the video it was still picking up stations with the stock antenna outside, pretty impressive
To me. I never understood SHTF stuff using Wi-Fi. Once you connect to the Internet you can be located. Listen 'only' is good. The aesthetics are amazing tho.😎
You don't need to connect this radio to WIFI, its only reason for doing so is for FT8 reception and upgrading firmware, you could keep it disconnected forever and it would work perfectly as a shortwave radio, You can even turn WIFI off in the radio.
@@Iridium242 Thanks. I enjoy your work. I figured you could just turn off the wifi. It just always throws ME for a loop when I hear" Off-grid and connect to WiFi"🤔👀😁😎 I heard it although I know you didn't mention it.🤫😁
Wifi is not there to provide the ability to listen to RF. As mentioned it's purpose is to get time sync via NTP which is critical for FT8/FT4 encode/decode. The other purpose it likely provides is the ability to update the firmware on the device but I doubt it's used for receiving anything that would normally received over RF. Keep in mind that your money is much better spent on antennas than the radio. Be prepared to spend as much if not more on antennas than the cost of the radio, or spend time studying how to build your own. The chances of being able to receive anything of notable mention over the telescoping antennas is next to nothing.
No sure why people go GA-GA over AM ? I live about 20 Miles ( or less from the capitol of the STATE...Alabama) and have 2 different radios. GEO-STORM and VOYAGER. I do NOT hear SQUAT on AM for either radio. is this because i live inside a small trailer? Would i need to be outside to hear AM? Don't hear SQUAT on the 2 SW bands on the VOYAGER. ????
If you want the ability to monitor P25, you really need a scanner that's capable of working with trunked radio systems. The Uniden SDS100/SDS200 are FAR more capable of providing you with the type of monitoring capabilities you would need to receive P25 from municipalities.
FCC defines an emergency a bit different than you I suspect. For one you need to be in immediate danger to life/property. More importantly, if you're interested in this from a preper standpoint and not wanting to learn/license I'll say this. Everything else you prep, foods, tools, guns(?) do these things not require knowledge and practice to effectively use? Do you expect to just suddenly know how to cook from grain in you're closet if you've been ordering in? Build a shelter with tools in the packaging you've never used before? Load, operate, aim, successfully hit what you want and not what you don't with a firearm you never took out the box and trained with? HAM radio is technical and can be a lot to learn if it's outside yer wheelhouse. For those exact reasons though you should not expect to be able to just magic it work in an emergency.
This is not a QRP radio. A QRP radio is a transceiver. This is an SDR *receiver* only. The price reflects that. QRP means using low power to transmit. A quality QRP transceiver, that has an SDR display, starts at about three hundred dollars more and up. And most of those don’t decode digital modes as a built in feature, although they may decode Morse code on the display in CW mode. For what this is and it’s intended purpose, it’s attractively priced.
Your comment regarding no license required. I guess you can tell me, then at what authority determines when that emergency level is met ( where anybody can communicate on ham radios ) because there are plenty of emergencies that happen all over the place and knockout communications for weeks for people, and that’s when the licensed operators step up because we are the ones that keep communication open
Well… you are a funny guy. Do you really believe, that a disaster like a nuklear impact for example in Muppets-Country make you listen to the latest charts? Hope you are save down in your bunker, dude. 🤣

Been waiting for you to review this
Neat radio. Great review. Would love to see it decode JS8. Can’t be that much of a leap since it decodes FT8
Unless you have a decent antenna those are useless.

Its cool I have the firmware to upgrade this one supposedly we will see
The Bluetooth is a hardware upgrade - a small additional PCB.
I can barely pick up anything with this using a MLA 30+ loop ....any recommendations
I have the same mla30+ and I'm getting great reception in coastal SC. Are you able to return the radio? Maybe it's defective.
Sync upper and lower is probably synchronous demod.
please can you recommend a BUDGET antenna that would work with the ATS25 Max Decoder and REALLY pick up a lot of HAM and far away SW ?
Excellent review.
Very interesting! A couple of Amazon reviews claimed no weather or aviation. Can you confirm?

Can you change the frequency in the FT8 mode and receive and decode JS8Call digital signals?
Yes just have to exit ft8 mode push mode again, chose js8 call, and you are good to go
Great video. Thanks
Is it as good as the gundig satellite
Neat radio! I heard you name an antenna at the end but I’m not familiar with it, do you have to use a ham antenna or a shortwave antenna?
Does it pick up AM radio stations?
The earlier versions had horrible interference noise from the screen. Have they fixed that?

Yes, absolutely You can learn most of what you need to get it doing more advanced stuff right here on youtube

Nice video! What antenna were you plugged into?
An end fed ham radio antenna, Its a pretty decent one, about 41 feet of wire outside
Is there a way to replace the battery in the future?
Yup open it up and put a new one in just have to solder it in
GOT TO BE HONEST, YOU MAY BE IMPRESSED, BUT MY 3RD ONE SHOWS MY WIFI JUST LIKE THE 9THER 2, BUT SAYS DISCONNECTED.
Does it do DAB+?
Can you use this to listen to the current police 'trunking' radios?
Nice video! Will the unit effectively decode CW?
not too bad, you DO need to tune it in right and get it perfect but then it rocks

Do you have to purchase a license key for this??? One reviewer said that he had to ???
No its already activated, I think that person accidently deleted their key in the menus and had to replace it.
Did you receive the FT8 with stock provided antenna? That’s impressive.

Even just being able to recurve can save your backside in a shtf or natural disaster
Sold me at FT8
Well, it's going back. Wifi not functioning, clock works when it wants to. I'll give another one a try.
Now too good in reception :-(

does it all, except transmit. Cool piece of kit, but I don't think it would do you much good in an emergency situation.
