After a bit of experimenting I've got my setup working great. I've built it into an ammo can now .50 cal and have it running off 12v car batteries on a hill top. It's working fantastically well. Really pleased with it and it turns out my issue with the sure comm cutting in early was simply because you need to run your repeater radio at max volume 👍
I am glad to hear you say you plan to switch to a mobile in place of the handheld, i have been thinking I would like to put together something like this with one of the Midland micro mobile gmrs radios
it looks like your amp is set to ssb. Might want to set it to fm. That's very similar to my simplex repeater setup, which is coming up on a year of operation on solar. I really like your tent and stuff too. Stay safe. 73
Prepping Ohio I’ll have to look when I get back up there. I may have inadvertently flipped the switch. Thanks for the heads up! Glad to hear yours is still up and running. 73 to you as well.
Great video of a simple inexpensive setup. This is the only video I have seen of an effective simple repeater setup. Question: what kind of range are you able to get out of the amplifier? I know it is a bit of a loaded question but How far are you able to transmit in Symplex mode vs the amped repeater? I am looking to setup a simple reliable systems where I can communicate with family APPX 10 miles away. My terrain is pretty flat. Thank you for your help.
I wondered why I never seen anybody set it up like a repeater with an offset so everything had to go thru the repeater and not hear the other person if you were close enough..... Good thinking, that's what I'm gunna go also, make the simplex repeater experience a little smoother.
I was just thinking that. I have a buddy who can hear me in his yard but not in his house sometimes so if I set this to tx on our main freq and rx on a separate freq we can chat normally bypassing the repeater or go through the repeater if necessary and still be heard on the main freq. the receiver wouldn’t hear me twice either due to setting the radios to duplex mode using separate tx and rx frequencies
Good video. I am just wondering why you are hearing back the recorded speech if you are using a different TX / RX frequency? If you program an offset instead of using A and B you will not hear your self twice
I have the same unit. Why does the sound on transmits have a weird background noise? The one at the club does the same. Any advice would be appreciated. Good video.
You ever figure out the noise? Mine did the same thing, but not on 100% battery with no charger, noise came back with 110v battery charger. If your powered with a wall wart or battery and charger, make sure they are well filtered. Hope this helps.
duplex repeater transmits and receives in real time because it has 2 radios. The simples receives, then stores audio on the Surecom controller, THEN replayes audio for transmit. It's like an phone answering machine where you 'leave a message' and play in right back for others to hear.
Hello there newbie here just wondering if you can teach me how to-do that kind of repeater. Just want to now how or what frequency to input. Like you said u here your self because of the simplex repeater but not repeats ur wife tx. Please help and teach me how. Planning to make on! Tnx 73!
After several failed attempts to make my own repeater. I'm thinking of making this setup. I already have pretty much all the equipment. How far does the portable repeater transmit.
Can I ask how did you set your baofeng uv5r as a repeater? You said in the video that you are transmitting in another frequency and receiving in another frequency.
You simply program your Baofeng with an offset frequency. It’s a lot easier to do with the programming cable. You can do it through the handheld but it requires you to program it manually. Basically the idea is you are listening to one frequency and transmitting on another. I’m pretty new at all this but from my understanding typically the split between sending and receiving frequencies is between 5 and 10 MHz.
@Appalachain Survivalist Hows this repeater working. I just got my surecom sr-112 and it keeps stopping recording part way through my transmissions and starting the rebroadcast before I've finished my transmissions. This can happen after about 6 seconds!
@@appalachiansurvivalist2080 hello, I also have a similar simplex repeater setup. I was wondering if you had any pointers to the most effective solar pannel and batteries. And also do you have a link for the amplifier. All help is appreciated please email me zxfire711@gmail.com Thanks!
Hi nice video , need your help please mobile amplifier, where can I buy that 85w, ore some think like that, need to do my project similar. Like u did. Thank you . Alex
If you are not living there how will you deal with theft and vandalism? My friend lost all his solar panels and other stuff off his airstream TT, and re was only on his 40 acre land on weekends
I am looking for about your products please lace me a message. When I post this , I am looking for more information on this. Looking for more information hope builds this . And what is the range on this.
You're using two different 2 meter vhf frequencies to achieve this? Why not just use true crossband repeat with a mobile and dual band antenna? The output would be close, no need for a controller, eliminate the amplifier, seems like win win to me. Then you have real time repeater activity. Assuming you're a licensed ham.

Very nice setup. I will be doing the same on 220 with a mobile radio without an amplifier. I also have off grid solar panels set up.

I like the idea of dual frequencies. Listening to everything twice gets old.
Better option for random signals getting in... Leave the squelch low "1" and add a CTCSS Tone or tone squelch to the radios.

Where did you get that amp?
Can you tell me which amplifier you featured? Thanks so much!
Can you please tell me what the range on your repeater is? With the amplifier and without the amplifier
Hi, I have a similar project. How has Surecom worked for you, and what scope has baofeng given you? I know it will depend on the antenna too !!!
How many radios can be hooked to that repeater ?
I have the same unit. Why does the sound on transmits have a weird background noise? The one at the club does the same. Any advice would be appreciated. Good video.

So what we heard first is the pickup and then the transmission come over
Im confused about what you have that second input on the Surecom hooked to.
It’s the power cable.
What is the different using this simplex repeater vs a duplex repeater box where u need 2 radios. Is there a different on performance

Repeater uses your radio, so whatever range that is....

Working well. It sounds like your squelch or radio settings might be the issue.

Quick question how do you keep that baofeng charge I know those radio don't last long
they make an adapter than replaces the battery and allows it to connect to ac or dc power full time.
By using a battery eliminator
Does the volume of the 2 baofengs radios repeaters matter. Like do they need to be hight or low 🤔
You can experiment. I found a little below halfway worked best.
You are going to have a decent set up. You should be able to reach out to your family and friends. Is it set up for GMRS?
Hi hows your repeater working? Is it still reliably?
Yes. I’m working on another solar panel set up to keep it operating no mater what the light conditions are.

I found it on eBay. Unfortunately I can’t find any at the moment

Good job on your install but you were transmitting on a Ham Band Frequency
I am a ham operator. The numbers you see underneath are ham band. However, the repeater freq. I’m using, doesn’t fall inside that band.
Where does this freq fall? i was also wondering because there was no call sign on eather end. how do you transmit like this?
im a noob how do i operate simplex repeaters lol.
Didn't catch your Amateur Radio license number... Got a call sign?
KY3JELY - mind your business pal.
You need to identify ( call sign) whenever you transmit or don't you have an Amateur licence ??
2 years later, only 2 likes. Nobody cares 😂😂😂
(kicks in door)
(yells) Frequency PD! Put your radios in the air! 😂
Noone cares
