This is the first video I watched on this. was going to call someone to fix it. probably would have paid a hundred bucks. All I had to do was loosen that screw at the end of the video. now I can lock the storm door from the inside. amazing. thank you so much. I will follow you
@@Tee-sz7tw you are so welcome 🙏🏽
Great idea! Thanks for the video!
I would make 1 small suggestion…. The metal used to make that type of clip is heat treated in a way that makes the steel harder. Which does 2 things: 1. Gives the metal a “memory”, so it “snaps” into place while retaining its original shape. & 2. Makes the metal more brittle, meaning it’ll only bend a little bit before it breaks.
That said, it might be easier to squeeze the open end of the clip closer together w/ your pliers before you put it in place, rather than after. BUT, be careful; b/c if you squeeze it too much, it could break in half.
Thanks for the info.
Thanks!! I was going crazy with the store instructions but watched this is got it done
Thanks for your comments. Please remember to like the video.
So what is that tiny metal piece even for?
Pro Tip: If the new retaining clip has too much play (or more than you like), try making it a little thicker/wider using clear fingernail polish. Just do 1 coat at a time to build up a few layers etc. It’s ok if you make it too thick or wide; b/c once hardened, you can go back & use a small file or the edge of a sharp razor blade to shape/shave it down to just the right size, so it’ll snap into place & not jiggle around. Plus, the epoxy in nail polish is better than wrapping the clip w/ something like a thin wire, thread, or tape. It won’t corrode like wire would, it’s more durable than thread, & degrade into a sticky mess like tape would do eventually.
Thank you! Just what I needed!
Glad it helped!
What does that mechanism even do?
How to realign the linkages inside the key cylinder activating the deadbolt To realign the linkages do you have a video for this for and Andersen storm door
So if that little metal piece that, yes, did fall out, isn’t secure down in it’s slot, does that mean anyone from the outside of that locked storm door can just walk up and lower the plexiglass?
Maybe be. If they know how to do it . Not easy to do from the outside.
I have a similar door by Anderson, Just today the lock got stuck and now I am locked in and cannot access my backyard. help!
Try taking the lock apart and put back together. Some reason these locks fail. I had the same problems.
How do you take them apart when you can't open it? I'm the same way I am locked in and cannonmt access my backyard.
Try removing the handle and using a flathead screwdriver to engage the lock cylinder.
The door latch system is a piece of garbage. On my 3rd repair in the first year. Don't understand why it can't remain operational for more than 4 months or so.
The same thing happened to me. 😮. There's got to be an alternative lock.
This vid is 3 yrs old, dude got fed up with his A.D. and took it down, isn’t on here anymore lol 😂
I have a slightly different style of handle where the handles themselves are separate from the barrel/staff (or whatever it's called that connects them). There is a screw pointed outwards, presumably on both sides, that screws into the center of the handles from the inside of the staff/staff thing. The outer handle has loosened itself off the screw and just falls off now. Have you seen this type before and is it possible to just rescrew the handle back in so I don't need to replace it?
It doesn’t hurt to try fixing it. If it doesn’t work then you can always replace it. Good luck 🍀 .
@@DIYRAY I was able to fix it. Almost made it worse when the spring came loose and I had to re-seat it and maintain tension while re-assembling it. All fixed now, though. Didn't even need to mess with the side or the lock. Just the front/back panels.
Dumb question - are those handles supposed to turn up (and stay up) towards the sky for some reason? I am not sure how or why, but mine accidentally did that one day but I feel like it is supposed to for whatever reason? Hope that makes sense.
Thanks for the feedback, To answer your question. The handle goes up if you plan on switching out the screen for the glass pane window. Once you switch it, push the handle back down to the right position to lock it in. I hope that makes sense to you. remember like and subscribe.
@@DIYRAY aaah ok. Thanks. I felt like that was the reason, but my glass slides back into the frame so I have no reason to swap it out for a screen. But, maybe the feature is still there regardless. Works for me - thanks for your help.
These doors suck.. Many ppl push my handle UP! Now my door is locked and I cannot UNlock... REINSTALL???????! WTH
Make sure you don’t have the lever in the lock mode. It should be in the unlocked position to allow your handle to come down. Good luck 🍀
The door don't stay closed unless we put the handle up a bit. Any answers. Also what's the purpose of the thing with the c clip
Thanks for the feedback and please remember to subscribe to the channel and like the video. To answer the question, the lever above your handle is for locking the handle up to remove the Screen or glass screen panel from the door. Try reinstalling the lock hit it with a little bit of oil and see will that help.
I find that clip so annoying. I couldn’t figure out its purpose. It would not install into the lock. I just took it off.
these doors SUCK ROYALLY!!!!!!!
I have a Anderson 2500 left hand door and the handle on the lock only opens the door if you pull upwards not downward. Is their something I’m missing installing this lock to get it to work downward.
Maybe do you have the right part number for your door? It should go down not up. Also make sure the switch on the door is down.
Mine locks from the inside but I can’t lock it with a key from the outside! What could be the problem?
Thanks for question. I had the same problem. Hit it with a Dab of oil. Also it maybe misaligned. Try taking it off and reinstall.
Thank you!!!!
Did this fix your problem? Currently have this issue..
Got the same problem.....key broke too, when I tried to lock it from the outside.
Did you get yours fixed, if so...how?
My lock quit working on my new anderson door,,what can be wrong latch turns but doesn't lock
Thanks for the feedback and please remember to subscribe to the channel and like the video. To answer your question, you have reinstall the lock. It may have came loose.
My door wont unlock
Try Dissembling it and put it back together do not tighten the screws down too tight or it might not work. Good luck 🍀
Neither will mine and who van DISASSEMBLE and REasemble a door? Hellooooo
o ???????????????????
If I could get it open.... fail
Don’t understand the question? This video shows to fix the problem.
