    For anyone looking for this TYPE of door. Pause if you watch the video carefully, and maybe try pausing, shortly after the 10 second mark you can see a factory sticker on the inside of the hinge bar for Emco. They sell doors under the Emco name and the Anderson name. The Emco doors are all 3/4 light with a kickplate across the bottom and tend to have cheaper frames. The Anderson doors have a full wood frame, and a full glass. THIS door is an Anderson door. The equivalent of what would currently be (Aug 2018) a 3000 series full light, or a 4000 series WITHOUT the safety glass.
    Home Depot sells Anderson and Emco
    Lowes sells Larson

    This video helped me put in a custom ProVia storm door and I'm getting ready to install another. Dealers want to sell it to you prehung, but you can request non prehung in order to follow this video and get a perfect fit on an old house. I also had to add some 1/4" "screen" strips to the molding on each side since it was not the correct shape to receive the storm door frames. A bonus - after adding these strips the opening became a standard size.

    No one ever mentions that during the seasons that the glass is in the window you now have an air-lock between the storm and interior doors. Because of this I always add a wind chain. I have repaired and replaced many storms, closers and jambs because the storm door did not fully close because of this air-lock even with the closers adjusted for glass.

    Video helped me tremendously in getting my Anderson storm door from Home Depot installed correctly. Much clearer than the instructions that came with door from the manufacturer. Although, I did have a little difficulty getting the bottom front kick panel bent in order to hold the rubber weather stripping in place as Tom demonstrated in the video. Thanks

    Did he install a door closer on the top and bottom of the storm door? I've never seen that done, but it makes sense. Equal pull means the door won't twist over time, and will have no problem closing on a windy day.

    I had a Home Depot Anderson storm door installed on our home, but they failed to factor in the opening is 81" and the door is 80". Anderson says they don't make 'frame extenders' like Larson does. I ordered some Larson Frame Extenders, since Larson makes Anderson doors, but they back ordered the extenders. Any ideas?? Thanks! :)

    I bought a replacement storm door and hired a recommended handyman to install it, but he didn’t measure either jam correctly: I can see light through three of four corners and intermittently along the bottom. The door also doesn’t open fully, so he didn’t install the bottom door closer correctly either. How do I fix a bad install when the holes are permanent??

    one problem...my doorknob bumps up against the storm door's handle...seems like there's a missing step to prevent this.

    • @jimharris9877
      @jimharris9877 4 роки тому +1

      I'm trying to add a storm door to my old house - that years ago had a wooden screen/storm door. The missing steps that Tom didn't explain how IMPORTANT it is to take measurements of the areas where you will be installing the door. Had you been instructed to do so, you would have realized (or your installer would have) that there has to be enough clearance to prevent your doorknob from hitting the handle of the storm door.
      I have a worse problem. My exterior trim only has a depth of 3/4". I can't find any retail seller of storm doors that has a door that can be mounted on a trim that doesn't have at least 1" of depth. Yes, yes, I could have one custom built, but that's not cost effective. The only saving grace would be to hire someone who knows what they are doing to add framing to the back door area. I'm not sure I want to go through all of that just for a storm door...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

  • @jasonzupke1474
    @jasonzupke1474 3 роки тому

    I’m not clear what you did with the 80” dimension, because you ended up cutting the jam flush with the bottom threshold.

    I would like to buy an Off the Rak storm door. The measurements that I’ve seen at the Home Depot are generally somewhere around 80 x 32 or 78 x 30 I’ve measured my door thoroughly and it’s 79 1/2 x 31 1/2. I was quoted close to $700 for a custom storm door. Is there anyway I can buy one of these off the rack things and make it work please help?

    Only in a perfect world is a door replaced so seemlessly. I am going to attempt to replace one of those old silver metal storm doors from the 60's with the scroll design over the glass on a house that is 90 years old. Can I call you when none of the measurements are the same as they would be had the house been built in the 70's, 80's or 90's? lmao.

    What do you do if the door handle of the regular door sticks out too far to allow you to hang the storm door. I have a contractor estimating $2000 to extend the door frame and jamb.

    • @heathermcclain4578

      Is it that your door handles are meeting up and touching? If that is the case, I would switch the entry side for my storm door. For example left hand to right hand. That is a lot cheaper option. Or maybe try smaller front door handles that would work? There has to be a simpler solution than a whole facade renovation for a screen door.

      Not to resurect an ancient thread, but no that is not A Larson. If you watch the video closely and pause somewhere after the 10 second mark you can see the inside of the hinge swing has a sticker for the "Emco" company. The sell doors under the Emco name and the Anderson name. The one in the video is an Anderson. All of the Emco's have a 3/4 glass with a kickplate at the bottom, and all of the Anderson doors are full 1-lite top to bottom.
      Sold at Home Depot.

      RIGHT??? It's always easy peasy and takes 10 minutes. My house is 90 years old and while in excellent condition, nothing was to code back then. Interior doors are 29" Doorways are 27". Windows are either oversized or undersized. Celings are 7.5'. I have one of those old doors from the 60's-70's.. the metal silver ones with the scroll design on it. It leaks like a seive. It freezes shut every year. The inside storm door leaks too but at least with a better storm door it may help more with drafts.

However, if the sun huts that side of your house the space between the two doors can get very hot which can cause other issues
