  • Check out this video highlighting the big brown trout in the Chattahoochee River--the major source of drinking water that flows through Atlanta. There's also some great discussion of the Quality Hooch campaign. Our Atlanta stores, SweetWater Brewery, and River Through Atlanta are raising $10k to help the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper revolutionary set up remote water monitors to help protect the river and the hundreds of creeks and tributaries that run through metro Atlanta. The filmed premiered in Missoula at this year's Orvis Guide Rendezvous and was shown in Atlanta last night at SweetWater Brewery, as part of the April Vokey fundraiser, sponsored by Atlanta Fly Tying and Gink and Gasoline.

The vid is spot on. This is my backyard and I've been kayak fishing the Hooch most of my life. There are enormous brown trout in this river. I've seen several swim by that are the length of my arm. These fish are very spooky though and tough to hook. Great vid Orvis!

Six years later and this popped up in my algorithm. Sadly the river is in worse shape now than it ever has been. Since this video was published, extreme siltation events due to heavy seasonal rains & poor water management via the COE the Hooch is more threatened now than it ever has been. Add to it that Facebook community groups are adding tons of pressure to the river with inexperienced anglers who don’t understand how to handle these fish it does not bode well for the future.

Someone who sucks at life ! If fun like this doesn't motivate you to stay healthy and explore I don't know what will. Just went fly-fishing this morning and landed two as a novice :) The tug is the drug my friend.

The net makes it look bigger than the fish is. Quality fish no doubt.

@@Halliday55 nope, 100% wild brown trout fishery. If you want pellet pigs you have to go to the mountains to the private streams.
